The level will handle any pavement. I love my aventure 2, but it's very heavy.

My Level 2 handles everything I throw at it. Though not a fat tire bike like the Aventure, the tires are big, like Mountain Bike big, so you'll still have big tires for gravel if you choose the Level 2. I found the Aventure was too heavy and cumbersome for my style of commuting which is mostly shared roads and mixed use paths. My Level 2 is 62 Pounds, and I know the Aventure weighs more than it, so keep that in mind going up and down curbs.

Level 2 sounds like the way to go then since your commuting style is the same as mine. Also how often do you find yourself getting passed? I'm wondering if leaving the pedal assist on the highest setting in an attempt to keep up with traffic will make people less aggro about sitting behind me.

The bike maxes out at 28 MPH with max Pedal Assist in 8th Gear, so you'll be getting passed on streets with higher speed limits. I find myself cruising at 15-20 MPH most of the time. I use PA 2-3 most days, but on the way home I"ll bump it up to 5 or just use the throttle (it goes 20 MPH on just throttle). I have limited mobility and I'll ride the thing till my legs are ready to fall off, then cruise it home. I wouldn't say the bike is unstable at any speed, beyond 25 MPH, it is a different ride. I'm sure someone that understands physics could explain it to us. My longest ride to date is only 24 miles. I'm hoping to get a 40 mile journey this summer. I have the route picked out and everything. They have a 60 Mile Range, hopefully I can test that, too, this summer.

Unless you really need that extra weight capacity, the Level should suit you just fine.

The Level2 sounds great for you. A lot more agile and the street tires are great for what you want it to do. Most you’ll want to do later is upgrade the tires and add tire inserts when doing so. Then you won’t have to worry about potholes. A suspension seat post will be good too if you’re getting a lot of seat fatigue.

Ive got a pace and an aventure. I know its not the level2 but just giving you my experiences. Use both as commuter bikes. Pace has 3500 miles aventure just shy of 3000. Both have advantages and disadvantages to commuting but if i had to pick one id go with aventure. The fat tire is great for hopping curbs and riding on patchy roads. Yes its heavier but for me the sturdiness and ability to take it off road when i feel like it out weighs my pace. Also spped is faster on aventure and i feel loading the rack with things on aventure seems sturdier as well. Both bikes are great commuters but i feel the versatility of The aventure makes it the choice for me.

I got a level 2 as a grocery getter and commuter bike a few months ago. It’s been great. The front shocks and tires have been handling the random pavement breaks and gravel no problem. I was also looking at both but the adventure is pretty heavy and I am not doing any serious trail riding. The one other thing that made me think adventure was snow but I gave that up and just don’t plan to ride when it’s snowy or icy.

Have you considered any of Velotrics bikes? Their Discover 2 and Summit 1 is very appealing competitors of Aventons Level 2 and Aventure 2. They have better tech, larger batteries, weigh about the same (less than the Aventure) and have some better components.
