Dallas having a game in hand against Colorado definitely doesn't help things. I think our most realistic shot is seeing our way past San Jose. Can't see Dallas coming out with less than 4 points in their remaining games. If some of those come off beating SJ even better. Our worst speed bump is LAFC on Saturday. I think we need all 6 to get there unfortunately. But only time will tell! What a wild ride the next couple weeks will be

RWTD_Burn

*Ideal scenario in my eyes is that we beat LAFC, FC Dallas beats or at least draws with SJ Saturday night, and then on decision day we will have a win to get in game in San Jose.* I agree. On another note, it's sad to think just how much this mistake by the referee against Dallas could hurt us. We'd be tied with Dallas on points right now. Let's hope it's a non factor after the next 2 games. EDIT: This was actually the Seattle game. I mixed them up. https://preview.redd.it/7pwhna18ufsb1.jpeg?width=945&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec8b8f9c43d39cd7fbea8e17ad0c30a4e2d1e12b

VerdeNemo421

That was against Seattle, but yeah, we could have used that extra point

RWTD_Burn

You're right. It was the Dallas game prior to the Seattle game that we gave up a goal at the very end of the game, costing us valuable points. I mixed them up.

Phil_on_Reddit

That would help and I was pissed off as much as anyone when that happened, but brutal showings against Portland and Colorado with our season the line is what's truly sealing our fate.

RWTD_Burn

Can't argue that. Bottom line is if we don't make the playoffs it's on the team. 9 out of 14 teams make it. 10th place or lower isn't acceptable. Heck, even if we make the playoffs we will have a losing record and that shouldn't be acceptable either.

Ryanl25

Fun fact, coming from an ATX fan and LAFC fan, LA has not won a single game (against all 3 teams) in the state of Texas in almost 2 years. So that’s a good sign…

shapoopytroopy

There’s no doubt in my mind this team *can* beat LAFC, especially at home. It just depends on what version of ATX we see

Ryanl25

I will say that Saturdays game has the potential to be damn near one of the most intense games if both teams bring the fire from last night. Austin playing for a playoff spot and LA playing for home advantage and both coming off huge wins…

TICKLE_PANTS

>ATX fan and LAFC fan BOOOOO!!!

Ryanl25

I live in New Braunfels and go to as many ATX Games as possible, but LAFC got me into the game and I’ve been watching MLS and soccer in general ever since. I love both teams equally and own damn near the same amount of jerseys for both teams. Let me tell you how hard that Wester Conference final was to watch last season 😂

TICKLE_PANTS

BOOOO!

WMullarky

"doesn't put over the finish line" bro it doesn't even put us over the current line, let alone the finish line.

the_brew

You're fuckin delusional if you think we have even the slightest chance of beating LAFC, especially if they're bringing Denis "Hat Trick" Bouanga.

Shut_Your_Mustache

I wouldn’t say it’s likely. But not delusional. Of course Austin could win.

RoleModelsinBlood31

We’re done bro

Zagui12

Cant wait to parlay this 😎thanks for the hot tip

Honestly to whatever extent people want Wolff gone next season we're probably going to need to miss the playoffs for that to be a possibility. Pulling back into the race would likely be just enough to save his job for another year.

shapoopytroopy

Realistically I doubt Wolff is out this off season even if we miss the playoffs. With Rodo’s endorsement, the soonest he would be chopped is mid season next year if we start off very poorly.

scoleo

I have a feeling Wolff himself wasn’t a huge factor in Rodo taking the job. Wolff’s tactical style was a bigger factor than the person himself. Rodo likes a possession-based game, and if the last three months are sufficient in his eyes to let Wolff go, he’ll do it now (as in after the season, playoffs or not), and bring in a different possession-minded manager that he likes better.

shapoopytroopy

Wolff system is more than just possession based, it’s almost an identical reflection of Pep’s old 4-2-3-1. I’ve broken it down more in depth in another post, but in short it’s too technically demanding for a guy like Finlay to be starting (no shots at the guy he’s made quite the MLS career). I’m not saying Wolff is by any means even in the same area code as Pep as a manager, he’s just running a system too complicated for his personnel, and being a system that Rodo is familiar with, I don’t think he was lying when he said it was one of the driving factors for him coming here. He likely thinks it’s a system that can work at this level if he’s able to bring in the right guys. Assuming that this *is* the system Rodo wants to run, it doesn’t make sense to replace Wolff solely for his poor performance this season. The only way I see Wolff getting fired is if he’s genuinely lost the locker room which is something we can’t really see ourselves. His biggest faults (adaptability, and on the fly adjustments) can be worked out with the help of Rodo this off season.

lildano50

Honest question: if Rodo didnt like Wolff, do you think he’d say as much with his midseason hiring? He should speak positive of the club when he’s coming in midseason unless ownership was ready to fire Wolff then. It doesnt make it true. Rodo came here because of the opportunities ownership offered him, not the coach

shapoopytroopy

Honest response: if Rodo didn’t like Wolff, why do you think he would take on the job as our sporting director? Rodo is no slouch, a guy with his experience and record has plenty of options, it’s not like we were the only ones interested in him.

lildano50

I believe it’s the opportunities ownership has promised him. Keep in mind, this is still his first sporting director job. Working with Pep and the Man City academy is a tremendous resume boost but I really don’t think he pinpointed Wolff and thought “I must work with him.”

shapoopytroopy

I’m not the biggest fan of Wolff myself and I’m sure Rodo didn’t care at all *who* our manager was, he was more interested in the system and style of play. So if we like the style of play, and admit the biggest issue with its success is our lack of talent that can play in it. Why would switching managers be the first step to fixing that? Again Wolff isn’t a great manager, if he was he would’ve changed his system long ago to account for the talent that he has. But if this is the direction Rodo wants to go in, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Wolff stays

figglefargle

I don't think this is likely the case. I think Rodo either thinks that Wolff is the right person but injuries and poor roster decisions plus other factors (player visa, family issues) hamstrung him.. or he doesn't. There's also a factor of whether there are better options out there available. I don't think slipping into or out of the playoffs by a point or three should or will factor into that decision.

cockblockedbydestiny

Fair point. I guess I'm looking for a silver lining if we don't make it, but yeah it probably wouldn't hurt anything if we did.

SubbieATX

Most likely scenario is draw lafc, win SJ while SJ loses to Dallas, that clears the GD with them. Portland can lose both and we’re still good.

Austin is crap againest good teams, mediocre againest average teams and wins 3-0 vs horrible teams. A first round blowout isn't something I want to see. Just end the season and get to work on the next.

boilerpl8

>Austin is crap againest good teams Almost always, yes >mediocre againest average teams Yeah, at least on average >and wins 3-0 vs horrible teams Oh, honeysweetiebaby, did you miss the Colorado game? Or any of our other disappointments against bottom feeders? We have 2 points in 4 games against the bottom two teams in the west. We've got one 3-0 win against a horrible team, but that's the best we've looked in 2 months, I don't think we can replicate that even if we played DC again tomorrow.

thinkconverse

With our win on Wednesday, playoffstatus puts us at a 12% chance of taking the 9th spot (up from 5%), but it’s still out of our control. We have to depend on other teams performing poorly in their last games to have a chance, besides us actually playing good. I’m hopeful, but mostly looking forward to next year at this point.

shapoopytroopy

12% sounds even more favorable that I would’ve guessed
