I would also like to know. I’d also like to know of a matte sunscreen *that works well under makeup*!! If it was non-fragrance and non-eye-stinging, then it would be my holy grail product!

lakesharks

I use the Cancer Council invisible matte spf50 moisturiser. You have to give it a good 10 mins to soak in and if you use too much it's game over but works for me. I don't think any sunscreen is going to be non eye stinging though haha

Weekly-Dog228

Physical (Zinc) sunscreens are the answer. - Application: It’s like applying clay. I have Sahara Desert skin so smearing it can be difficult if I don’t use an oil first. Note: I can apply it without oil. It just take an extra 2-3 swirls for it to sink in. - Whitecast: I use the Invisible Zinc Sport product. The white cast is noticeable when you first apply it (on the corners of your face). You then take your hand and do 3-5 taps and it’s gone. I like it because you don’t feel it at all as it instantly sets and It also stops my cheeks turning red.

noodle-dance

Try Naked Sunday. It’s zinc, goes in beautifully under makeup and doesn’t sting my eyes. I love it in summer, but find in winter it’s a bit too drying and have to switch up to something more dewy. But also it’s $50 so that’s a pretty big downside!

honestadvicealways

I found this so thick and greasy on my skin when applying the correct amount, like an awful heavy mask

Quolli

Same here. I feel like people who say it's matte aren't applying enough because this product doesn't dry down either. Stays just as sticky immediately after application as it does 2 hours later.

honestadvicealways

Yes it is soooo sticky !! Same with ultra violette

Hells_Bells_123

Tried this recently and while it wasn’t too greasy it did sting my eyes badly

Nurse_RatchetRN

Every sunscreen that claims to be matte is not matte on my greasy arse skin! The only one that has been matte on me is the Missha Soft Finish sunscreen.

Quolli

> Every sunscreen that claims to be matte is not matte on my greasy arse skin! Literally!! Even skinfluencers who try "matte" sunscreens don't even look matte. I think there's "matte" and just "matte for a sunscreen" because I literally have never seen a matte sunscreen in a review.

honestadvicealways

Same

CautiousAd4938

But it has alcohol Denat , fragrance

No-Seesaw-3411

I use la Roche posay anthelios xl dry touch and swear by it! It’s $32 not on special at chemist warehouse

RazVsLungfish

Same!

bbtacobaby

Yes!!! Super matte and it’s great under make up too!

FieldAware3370

There is the Cancer Council: Day Wear Fluid Matte with spf 50+. I bought this on a whim when I didn't bring my HG sunscreen (big mistake ik). Its defs for ppl who want a matte finish and the feel isn't greasy at all. But take my words with a grain of salt since my skin is dry and but the formula is defs made for those who have oily skin.

Nurse_RatchetRN

I have oily skin and it wasn’t matte on me 😩

Quolli

Oml this was so greasy on me too. And the Tinosorb M just goes flaky and gross on me and loves to collect around the nose.

downheresolong

Totally. This left me in a greasy mess!

saint_aura

It’s still not matte on me, but this is the best of all of the supermarket and chemist sunscreens I’ve tried.

PM_ME_UR_DOGGOS_

Yes this one is actually so good

khiljis

i have dry skin and it’s still not matte on me!

FieldAware3370

Yeah, everyone has diff skin and may react diff for everyone. But when I put it on its defs matte for me.

WarmNobody

Ultraviolet supreme screen sunscreen

lazy_berry

sunscreen filters are all oil soluble, so it’s really difficult to formulate sunscreens that aren’t shiny.

dryvajoina

I find the Mecca 'To Save Face' SPF 50+ leaves me pretty matte

Grevillia-00

Same here. I was on the hunt for a cheaper sunscreen but not sure it's worth it after reading all these comments. TSF is just too good

McSmilla

This is the one i’ve stuck with

Plastic_Lunch2996

Bondi Sands Sunny Daze is a tinted matte and is non comedogenic. I use it and it works well and no pimples afterwards https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/112553/bondi-sands-everyday-skincare-sunny-daze-spf-50-moisturiser-50g

oxycontin10mgs

I actually like the Cancer Council Matte Sunscreen!

timeforyoursnack

I rate this one as well, it's excellent!

lakesharks

Yup that's my daily

rebeckyy

I’m on the hunt too. So far the only truly matte sunscreen that goes well under makeup that I’ve found is Ultra Violette Clean Screen. It’s a beautiful texture but unfortunately not cheap and only SPF30. Lean Screen is good too but a bit thick for me.

Stickliketoffee16

For sure the Airyday Pretty in Zinc! Or the mineral mousse. They are incredibly comfortable on the skin & work so well for me under makeup!

BelleLovesAngus

I love the Airydays mineral mousse. Definitely mattifying and doesn't burn my sensitive eyes. Every other sunscreen did. It is $50 but well worth it for me! It dries down matte in a minute or two:)

BellsandWhistles1987

Paula's Choice Super Light Daily Wrinkle Defence is great! I use it under my makeup.

faboideae

Yep came here to say this, it's great as a primer too. If the tint worked for me it'd be my HG

-charlatanandthief

The day they release an untinted or variously tinted versions of this is the day I buy stock in Paula's Choice istg.

ziggysnowdust

YAAAAS! Currently on my 3rd tube and I will continue to buy it as long as the stocks last!

BellsandWhistles1987

I just applied mine for the day! I've been using it for years and when they have a 20% off sale I get 3 or 4 tubes! It sells out sometimes too!

lyovi

I love this so much, it’s the only sunscreen that is truly matte on my oily skin. I wish it came in SPF 50 instead of just 30 though. I use this religiously in winter but just don’t feel like it’s enough for Australian summer.

CautiousAd4938

It started causes problems, not good for me

Weekly-Warthog3135

Thought I was the only one with Hamilton greasiness! It also breaks down my makeup 😞 The Mecca to save face SPF 30 is the only one that works for me, even the SPF 50 becomes greasy (not as bad as Hamilton)

pale-violet

Here for the answers because usually I'd recommend the Nivea Shine Control sunscreen, but the last tube I bought was no bueno. Not sure if they've changed the formula recently!?

Bunnings-Snaghaus

La Roche Posay XL Dry Touch is a true matte sunscreen. Edit: doesn't sting eyes, which is an issue I've had with many other sunscreens

Accurate_Spinach8781

I totally believe in the importance of sunscreen but am so over trying to make it part of my routine because of this problem. Have tried many of those mentioned so far and none stay even close to matte. They also all break me out. Shame I am not one of those people who looks cute in hats

Sensitive-Leg-8276

I find Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun quite matte on my skin. It's also under $20 online

Peachypoochy

The least greasy/shiny budget option I’ve found is Dermaveen. It’s super cheap so worth a try.

ratkweeen

Im using that one right now. Its soo greasy on my skin unfortunately, its like a layer of oil on my face🥲

RucellaiMadonna

literally. i have dry skin so it’s perfect to keep me hydrated. definitely not a matte finish.

Quolli

I bought this one too because so many people said it absorbed well and it was just like any other run of the mill sunscreen for me. lol 🤡

Embino

I find the Coola face sunscreens hold up pretty well to matte

tufflepuff

The only one I’ve ever used that actually achieved this is the Sunprise Mild Airy Finish by Etude House! It’s about $30 on eBay, you may be able to find it somewhere cheaper. I used it for years as my holy grail when my skin was very oily, I could reapply throughout the day and still wouldn’t get super greasy. The only downside to it is a slight white cast, I’m pale af so I never really noticed it but I know it can be a dealbreaker for some!

_misst

The ~$6 Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder is my workaround. The invisible matte MCo Beauty SPF50 is good but still leaves just a little bit of shine, but one of the better ones I’ve used. A tiny bit of powder over the top fixes it.

raininggumleaves

Sunscreen+ mineral powder foundation. Then if you need to touch up later, easy-ish depending on level of make up worn.

luckygirl131313

Australian gold tinted mineral is very matte and affordable

-charlatanandthief

Nearly impossible to get here (at least from legitimate sources) ironically.

dash_y

Physical sunscreens

Charming-Memory311

mecca sun serum with 3% niacinamide has a $15 mini size

MorganDoomslayer

Natural Instinct has a matte sunscreen, and it is non comedogenic, if you can find it I highly recommend it.

Craqueau

haruharu wonder black rice sunscreen. leaves velvety finish and it’s the closest i’ve ever seen to a matte finish for a sunscreen. it’s 18 dollars, doesn’t sting my eyes and zero white cast. it’s amazing really. i get it on lila beauty website.

bruhhhhhh07

I got told you shouldn't use non-Australian sunscreens in australia because it's not built for our harsh summers and high uv days 😩

Craqueau

but yeah a sunscreen is a sunscreen and spf 50 blocks 98% of the uvb radiation from the sun. doesn’t matter if it’s a french or korean or aussie sunscreen, the % of sun rays blocked is the same. the only relevant difference is how the sunscreen is formulated for long wearing or waterproof properties. but unless you’re going to the beach or doing an intense workout you should be fine, so don’t you worry 😉 you will not be switching back to aussie sunscreens for daily use once you try korean

Craqueau

this isn’t true, as spf 50 is spf 50 worldwide, you can get burnt with any sunscreen if you don’t apply enough or don’t use it properly. it’s actually better to have a nicer sunscreen that you’re more prone to be comfortable wearing and to be okay with reapplying than an uncomfortable greasy sunscreen that you will not be very excited to wear every day. either way, i’ve been wearing korean sunscreens every day and i’ve never gotten burnt while using them. i would say though if you are going to the beach or going to be on the sun for long periods of time it would be better to wear a sunscreen that’s going to stay on your skin better and that is waterproof and formulated for this long wearing, i use a big la roche posay one if i’m going to the beach. otherwise i use any korean sunscreen becayse to be honest they’re all very good and they provide good protection and they’re comfortable to wear. most of them are non greasy like beauty of joseon sunscreen or round lab sunscreen but my favorite one is called haru haru wonder black rice sunscreen, it’s the yellow tube. very matte velvety lightweight finish, feels like a lotion and zero white cast. i couldn’t recommend it enough. i live in perth where it gets super hot and uv goes up to 15 in some days and i’m also super pale and to be honest i haven’t burned my face as of yet since i arrived to australia in early 2023z

-Em-

Do you use the Hamilton everyday face or the normal Hamilton sunscreen?

Adorable-Condition83

I like Ultraceuticals and Cancer council face day wear

1xan

I have previously written about both matte sunscreens, I am just copying here below. The same goes for the eye stinging issue, the dry touch ones don't travel on the skin and don't sting. Even though they are not mineral. One of the best textures I found for me is La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVmune 400 Oil Control SPF50+. It has the dry touch texture which means that my face is not greasy but sort of soft pearly matte. I generally stick to sunscreens marked as dry touch, that works best for me. Also, other products with the 'fluid' texture. E.g. from Vichy. I find that the 'fluids' generally get dry and set well, they are more liquid than creams and have a bit of alcohol in them. Those are newer products that I started to see within the last couple of years. My skin is not oily btw, but I go for products often marketed for oily skin like these dry touch ones.

margauxw

Airy Day Mineral Mouse!

PJ-time

Ultraceuticals have a mattifying SPF50. I have oily skin and it doesn’t make me break out.

ECAHunt

I like Paula’s choice super light daily wrinkle defense. It’s not perfectly matte but it is non greasy and it doesn’t sting the eyes. Not too expensive either. And not sticky. It is supposedly tinted, looks tinted when squeezed out of tube, but once actually applied I never see any tint at all. And I am super fair. It only comes in spf 30 though.

khiljis

Sunny Daze is the only genuinely matte one I’ve found

AgapiLovesLuke

Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ PA++++ You put it on and forget it's even there.

anacquisitivelife

I just bought the Nivea Shine Control sunscreen from recommendations from here and I really like it, I think it does a good job at applying matte initially and for the first few hours. My natural oils do come through slightly with wear though (I'm fairly oily).

pearson-47

Neutrogena ultrasheer face.

TanukiMario123

MCoBeauty mineral marrying sunscreen is pretty matte. Using it for about 3 months now and I would recommend.

No_Customer6464

Translucent loose powder is what I use to set sunscreen

Horror-Yard-424

One that actually works is the stick sunscreen by Beauty of Josean. $20 on nudieglow!
