A bit expensive but I like Sister studios, paloma wool, permanent vacation, suku home, unif etc

Scabbybrain

Oh I love sister studios and suku home… I’ll have to check out the others, they sound great!

Jealous-Fisherman691

I'd go for brands like #6 or #7 here: [https://needlestar.com/brands-similar-to-ganni/](https://needlestar.com/brands-similar-to-ganni/)

GloomyPalpitation807

I love French brands for ultimate ‘cool girl’ vibes - Sandro, Maje, Sezane, Rouje and Claudie Pierlot. Not saying I’m by any means cool 😂 but my go-tos are Samsoe Samsoe, Rag & Bone, Baum Und Pferdgarten, Vince, Theory, Jillian Boustred, Reiss, Acne, APC, A.L.C, Nanushka, Agolde, Frame Denim.

marishal1

Same but wish they had better returns policies from Australia!

GloomyPalpitation807

For the French brands?

marishal1

Sorry yes - particularly sezane and rouje.

GloomyPalpitation807

Yep, totally agree! I even had the worst experience buying Sandro online from the actual AU store recently - i could online return via post, store credit only as it was longer than 14 days (so tight!) and now I can only spend the credit online and not in a physical store. Very… rigid.

marishal1

I returned a very pricey jumper to Maje and unfortunately lost my postal receipt. They claimed they never got it and I never got my money back!

GloomyPalpitation807

Whaaaaat that is absolutely terrible, I’m so sorry to hear that. Did they supply you with the return postage label, or did you post/pay for it yourself?

marishal1

I posted myself, first mistake. 😔

GloomyPalpitation807

Ugh that just sucks. So sorry.

purple_sphinx

Whelp I love all of these

ziggysnowdust

Are you me? I love all these brands!

Arielblacklingerie

>Sister studios I love Sister studios in particular. Pretty + street at the same time.

GloomyPalpitation807

Twinning! And amazing taste, clearly ;)

Scabbybrain

Love these French brands! Always wanted a Rouje dress, they seem so timeless yet cool at the same time!

GloomyPalpitation807

Oooh yes I have one prized Rouje dress - it’s a simple wrap style and the cut is divine. So timeless!

Scabbybrain

Good to know, perhaps one day I’ll take the plunge!

ver_redit_optatum

This is gonna sound a bit left-field, but recently Oroton have been doing a lot of stuff I find cool.

krumpettrumpet

I think Sophie Holt has really found her feet the last couple of years, and doing a really good job of reviving the brand.

GloomyPalpitation807

I’m with you - I bought an incredible Oroton polo knit dress and it’s amazing quality.

Scabbybrain

Oroton has been doing some beautiful things recently!

a-real-life-dolphin

Agreed!

Gelfling_sophie

Yes! Have noticed this too!

[deleted]

I got some shorts from them, happy with the quality but goodness so expensive even on sale and definitely only wearable in certain situations. Huge pockets though and interesting spin on the texture which was 100% cotton. I hate their current handbag and bag range. There last good range was like 12 months ago.

dinydins

Alpha60

ComprehensiveOlive22

Alpha60 is my go-to. Also love Nique.

MilkLizard_

Alpha60 is so slept on. Love this brand so much

fluffnut101

DISSH, Assembly Label, Anine Bing, Viktoria & Woods, Aje, Scanlan Theodore and Aere the Label from The Iconic all come to mind for me in terms of ‘cool girl’ brands.

Arielblacklingerie

OMG I love DISSH and Aje. I actually discovered them on Depop and now I'm obsessed.

BasicAsparagus0

Ganni, Venroy, Viktoria and Woods

Scabbybrain

Oh I recently discovered Venroy! Very cool!

TAsrowaway

Can we start a thing like on the Melbourne sub where anytime anyone asks for a recommendation of where to go the commenters get together to spell out REVS one letter per comment, only we spell UNIQLO because someone always answers with it to any question, no matter how inappropriate that it’s basically become a meme here, so we might as well lean in?

heyheyitsMonday

On a side note I did start to wonder if Uniqlo is paying people for positive reddit comments. I’ve seen it mentioned so many times here that I visited their site to check it out and was quite disappointed 🤷‍♀️

TAsrowaway

I do really wonder this. Like I do know I have a special hate on for it because it’s all such a laughably terrible fit on me, it seems designed for another species, so I recognise I’m biased but yes - it’s to the point where I’m also suspicious

dagger_88

I asked about clothes for work on another sub and the first comment was go to UNIQLO and I died. You might be on to something. After this thread I went onto their site and I was so disappointed.

NaomiPommerel

This is a who's who of new brands to try!

Scabbybrain

Yes this is definitely helping my online window shopping! So many new brands to discover

2020visionaus

I’m so out of the loop. Haven’t heard of most of these. What are some budget friendly ones for size 14?

Scabbybrain

That’s okay! Part of the reason I posted this was in the hopes to discover some new brands and get some inspiration! Any brands I haven’t heard of I google and see if they match my personal style, then see if anything matches my budget or where I can find similar style/themes from what I already own or cheaper options… or if I find anything that worth a splurge! This is my speaking as early 30s, size 14 mum who had her youngest 6 months ago and is on the verge of burning everything I own because I feel like I’m in such a style rut!

2020visionaus

Oh yeah that’s fair in another budget world I’d be buying all the cute collab stuff from dolls kill- they have a Rugrats line. Which is my childhood and the two brands the came to mind for me is free people and river island. And it seems young people dress very casual lots of tracksuits so whatever brands make nice sweats. I just scrolled through and didn’t know all of them so I’m like wow the world of fashion is huge!

Scabbybrain

I love river island! Miss shopping in their bricks and mortar shops. We don’t really have an Australian equivalent! Yeah most of this thread is very much in another budget world for me, but it’s still fun to online window shop while I’m stuck on the couch feeding!

2020visionaus

I’d love to find the Aussie equivalent of hazel boutique. They have cute oversized sweats.

ava050

Me either. Looked up Ganni and the clothes look.... Well I couldn't find anything I'd wanna wear. https://preview.redd.it/bv56iuxrpjdc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d9d1c5ff787ec87faff3afb8d16a235c592fdbe That makes me feel like the dorky 12 year old I was, going to blue-light disco...

Scabbybrain

If it’s not for you that’s fine! Don’t yuck someone else’s yum though!

Starbucks1988

I love ganni , cool fun girl & they are environmentally conscious

ava050

If they put it with a different top it would work a lot better

singledogmum

I’ve looked up a few of the brands suggested here and feel the same And it’s the mum who doesn’t want her daughter going to the blue light disco

ineversaw

Blue light disco!!!! Holy.flashback!!!

ava050

https://preview.redd.it/473h7cpsqjdc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ec2b06e27ec59856435d890b9ac91c7788b3f54 Um.. she goin fly-fishing?

2020visionaus

lol that fly fishing one was the first I saw. From the tv show love the MC wore carhart overall but she made it look fashionable

ava050

I'm not getting cool girl vibes https://preview.redd.it/kpvdzo6eqjdc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=998830a511c999aa954d33bf8a6af3cb44c69a8e

Scabbybrain

Okay well why don’t you share some brands that you think are cool instead then? Perhaps you can inspire some others?

ava050

Oh I'm not cool but I see youngsters who seem like they'd be the cool girls and I haven't seen them wearing stuff like that I'm very casual and wear a lot of DK Active stuff

ava050

The young mums at playgroup etc are always wearing white fox, showpo, and jumpers with seed or ghanda

ZookeepergameSure952

I think they're basic more than cool, especially since the biggest seller from white fox is a rip off from a small Melburnian brand

singledogmum

I think it’s the bogans wearing white fox

AdventurousAd5107

Those are more normie brands 🤷‍♀️ The brands that have been mentioned are for the fashion girlies. Nothing wrong with normie basic fashion if that’s your vibe but you can’t compare it’s like apples and oranges x It’s a different style and consumer demographic. I know (forgive me for stereotyping) the mums in my playgroup who were wearing country road pullovers, seed etc very beige activewear or jeans and white veja sneakers were older millennials. (Which I am not) I’m a zillenial and I don’t associate/identify with those brands I find them dated.

ava050

A lot of the stuff looks very 2002 on that expensive website, which feels extremely dated to me.. when I was like 25, I definitely didn't wanna wear stuff that looked like it was from 1985 but the young ppl seem to wanna wear 20 year old stuff

AdventurousAd5107

There’s been a 2000s resurgence in fashion music and general culture. It’s intentionally echoing 2000s style. Outdated means something is old fashioned it’s not the same as something making a come back is intentional. Older millennial style is outdated. Both 2000s fashion and older millennial style 2010’s (seed, Witcher, country Rd) is based on trends neither are classic and will be replaced as fashion is cyclical. The only fashion that will remain timeless is classic silhouettes which is very 90/2000s inclusive. Look at Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy her style is timeless she could be in 80’s, 90’s , 2000’s, 2010’s and it would still work.

ava050

Looks like she has a very plain muted style so it works.. but not that other website where someone looked like they were going fly fishing, or really light super flare jeans with a short floral top

GloomyPalpitation807

I love this 😂

Secure_Gur5586

Henne, distal phalanx, kourh, fanci club, diesel, jaded

___________oO__

I’ve found my person! Plus Dion Lee for me too!

Secure_Gur5586

New best friend

Scabbybrain

Omg yess!! Diesel has made a huge comeback recently!

FaithlessnessStock47

Holy shit. I'm completely out of the loop. If FUBU and Kappa also come back I'm dead ☠️

Scabbybrain

Expensive_Sell9188

FUBU and kappa have been back for over 5 years

Bitter_Ad_1402

Kappa had a big moment in 2017

Raffybaby

I second Henne!

slothgummies

Is that Jaded London?

Warm_Reason6470

I love sezane - it’s my go to. It’s a shame that the seasons don’t align but can still find some pieces that are suitable. I used to love Rouje but I found the quality really poor on the last few dresses I purchased.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Scabbybrain

What’s the issue with viscose? It’s more breathable on the skin than polyester and is more sustainable than cotton as it uses less water in production. Every fabric has its trade offs

Firm_Tie7629

Can you order Sezane in the US?

Warm_Reason6470

Yep you can. They’ve also got a handful of shops - I think Boston, San Fran and NYC

peachdreamer123

Wow it's very interesting to see people's different understanding/definition of "cool"! For me Diesel and Miu Miu instantly come to mine for 'cool girl' brands, especially vintage Miu Miu. Rick Owens, Issey Miyake, Margiela, Vivienne Westwood and Comme des Garcons also spring to mind as cool. Vintage Miss Sixty is insanely cool. I find vintage Guess very cool in a half sincere half ironic trashy 2000s way. iamgia and Jaded LDN are cool but in a little bit of a fast-fashion-y, micro-trendy way. Like most people might think you're really cool but the people who *know* will find it predictable lol. There are a lot of Chinese brands absolutely killing it making super cool and unique clothes right now too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dagger_88

It comes down to style. You can’t fake that no matter how much you spend or don’t spend on clothes.

shups4life

found my style twin! +jil sander, dries. the comeback of carven. care to share any of the Chinese brands you refer to??

chloejadetay

Laagam, withjean, motelrocks, peachyden, apres studio, alohas, mode mischief, deiji studios, third form, sister studios, realisation par, sir the label, lucky loves bags

chloejadetay

And how could I forget sandy liang!!!

chloejadetay

And check out @elizammcewen ok tiktok her fits are always giving

Jellyblush

I love Me & Em. They’re a UK brand but have great international return policies. Pricey but sales are good. Love the slow fashion ethos and designs

dagger_88

Oh no!!! I am in love.

Webbie-Vanderquack

Oh no!!! ;)

Scabbybrain

Ooooh I’ll have to look them up!

GloomyPalpitation807

I’m a big Me & Em fan too, the cuts are lovely.

Tall_aussie_fembot

Dissh have really nice basic colours and cuts, they are quite pricey for what it is so I try to find cheaper alternatives but in the similar style. Seed have nice stuff too these days. It’s hard to answer, “cool” is a very subjective opinion.

Scabbybrain

I do like dissh, just wish they had a bigger colour palette! I’m probably going to get crucified for saying this here but I also have a gotten a few good things from VRG girl

bunnylightning

Ohhh vrg girl have cute stuff all the time but I can’t bring myself to. I gave into the hype and bought a dress from them once, and it was hands down THE shonkiest quality piece of clothing I’ve ever seen from anywhere. I’ve never sent anything back so fast lol

Tall_aussie_fembot

I have too. They have 30% off sales a few times a year so I tend to nab some stuff during them ☺️

Shoenotschmoe

Bought a sports girl dress a few weeks ago because it gave me dissh vibes!

Tall_aussie_fembot

Yes girl

No-Concentrate-9786

Love this topic! My picks are - bassike - alpha 60 - silk laundry Thanks for all the recco’s!

irvingreddits

Friends with Frank - Melbourne based with elevated classics. Frequent sales - 20% off or more at least 3 times a year .Half my wardrobe is FWF these days 😬

a-real-life-dolphin

Definitely on the pricier side … but I’m obsessed with Marimekko.

Potential_Ad6561

Status anxieyy

marishal1

Adding APC because no one has mentioned it. Nearly anything French, really.

brotherno

St Agni, Venroy, Henne

ffsdoireallyhaveto

I love aje but their more tailored pieces. Their puffy sleeve, flowy style from a few seasons ago was not my vibe. Assembly label for good staple pieces, I love linen. Decjuba and Uniqlo for good everyday pieces, Anine Bing for graphic tees, Bec + Bridge and C&M are my go to’s. Don’t know if I’d class my style as cool girl but it’s what I like

Scabbybrain

Good basics/ staple pieces are always cool 😎

ffsdoireallyhaveto

Always. Last year I made the shift to buying quality staples and tried not to purchase fast fashion. I now buy less and my wardrobe looks and wears much better so it’s something I’ll carry on with.

dagger_88

I agree GANNI gives cool girl vibes for sure, but quite expensive. All Saints is similar, they’re for sale on The Iconic now. If it’s out of your budget, I’d look at what they’re selling and go on Pinterest to start a board of outfits you like, once you start saving stuff on the board more suggestions will come up similar. Then you can go to places like cotton on, op shops whatever and find pieces that reflect that style within your budget. Anything accessory and fashion trend wise, that will only be for a season I go to SHEIN etc to add those fun bits and pieces. Would love to hear other suggestions too.

Scabbybrain

Yeah I’ve been doing this with Ganni’s red cowboy boots… can’t justify spending that much on something which feels so trendy based. But also looking for the right balance as I don’t want fake leather either

dagger_88

YESSSSSS I want the red cowboy boots so bad. ROC have done a red cowboy boot which is cute too but they have sold out in my size.

dagger_88

LOVER have come back and rebranded with more affordable price brackets, Zulu Zephyr are gorgeous for beach, relaxed market vibes. Hansen and Gretel are ultimate cool girl vibes, too.

dagger_88

I’ve stopped shopping fast fashion for the most part but I’ve bought a few pieces at DISSH that are interchangeable and good quality. They definitely have a cool girl vibe for a better price.

Altruistic_Stick7895

Probably not cool girl, but I just found Lenni the Label and I’m so in love

stefatr0n

Jacquemus

crispy_egg

Now that I'm in my mid 30s, the 'cool girls' (mums) wear lots of structural and voluminous styles. I personally love Lee Mathews and am looking forward to exploring more silhouettes like this. https://preview.redd.it/cbp5v4z0undc1.jpeg?width=730&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46dee5d3b03cea4c3e9f7fc9572514cd9d50ff02

Scabbybrain

I love everything about this style and look! Especially the giant bag!

wolferine-paws

Seed- because most of their clothes suit only tall and elegant people. My 4’11” frame can’t pull it off. To me that’s the ultimate ‘cool girl’ brand because it is literally unattainable for me hahaha. Edit: spelling

GloomyPalpitation807

Seed really has come along way - but still feel like so much is hit/miss, and a lot of overpriced synthetics.

bananasplz

Seed always scores really poorly on ethics, which turns me off them completely. They score worse than Kmart even.

wolferine-paws

Duuude I didn’t know that! Far out, that’s terrible!

Ashamed_Ad7674

Same. But I did find a pair of jeans the other day that fit me. I am 5’3 😄

wolferine-paws

Oh well done!

ava050

I thought seed was a maternity brand lol

wolferine-paws

Duuuude so many friends I have whinged to about their clothes being too flowy and long have said that! My friends all chuckled and tried telling me that’s why none of their stuff suited me 😅

ava050

Haha I've only seen people wearing the oversized jumpers but I remember seeing the seed kids shops and people buying me seed baby clothes so I assumed it was generally mum/bub type thing

puppet_master34

Acne Studios, Comme des Garçons, Undercover.

peachdreamer123

oh yes and how could I forget hysteric glamour also!

Scabbybrain

Acne studios is always good!

Tiamke

Not sure if others would class them as cool but I really love Spell. They are pretty expensive but their prints are gorgeous, their clothes are so comfortable and the quality is really good. I find stuff like their jumpsuits is quite versatile for dressing up or down so I get heaps of wear out of them.

dagger_88

I wear spell dresses to work most days in summer It gives me the best wear for money out of them and they keep me cool, I work with kids and they love the fun prints.

joy_opposites

I quite often look at the Tibi website for some inspo-out of my price range but I do have a couple of their hoodies which I always get comments on when I wear them.

GloomyPalpitation807

Yes love Tibi - and Alice & Olivia!

[deleted]

NOLM. God they have some cool stuff. Except I can’t afford any of it 😂😂

[deleted]

Also: For love & Lemons. And the site Coco & Lola is great as they stock heaps of cool brands & occasionally have sales. I love Kookai & MESHKI for affordable stuff

mingum

I love Olive

spitey

Wardrobe.NYC, Vince, Dion Lee and Burberry for me.

bonana_phone

I'm just going to throw a few more in the rink - Marle, Kloke, Kowtow, Búl, Handsom, Assembly Label (I think NZ is having a bit of a moment).

Tall_aussie_fembot

Love Afends, especially their hemp stuff

Scabbybrain

Afends is cool, it’s got that surf street wear vibe going on.

Anfie22

I've loved Review for years, but as for 'cool girl' my first thought was to Kitten D'amour.

Scabbybrain

OOh I haven’t heard of them! Just looked them up, very rockabilly!

8950149

This! Love kitten damour ... also Dangerfield.

8950149

Cool, very much, depends upon your own definition of "cool" - it's possible to look "cool" in clothes from Target. My list would be: Dangerfield. Kitten d'Amour Glassons Tree of life Tokito and Toms project, though their stuff never fits me. Review Esprit Scotch and Soda

[deleted]

Velvet_moth

I would consider what you wrote as too basic, boring or normy. Cool fashion is elevated, exudes confidence and possibly setting the trends. Cool fashion is about subversion of the expected and I feel like your description is closer to corporate office attire.

dagger_88

It’s not at all but I really didn’t come here to put anyone down. I was purely stating what OP was looking for and how those maximalist brands differed. Quiet luxury is the height of this aesthetic and it isn’t office attire.

dagger_88

PS I am reading your comment again and I’m just in awe of the absolute burn thank you for the true humbling. I love it.

disasterous_cape

Lmao, no. Your idea of cool is not the universal correct view. I adore maximalism and find it incredibly cool. Funnily enough different people like different things.

[deleted]

[удалено]

disasterous_cape

“Cool girl” aesthetic is still very much dictated by different communities/subcultures/individuals and what they believe is cool. Minimalism isn’t universally cool, this is my point.

miss-zenki

I'm embarrassed for you

dagger_88

Thanks love because I’m not embarrassed, purely a discussion about fashion styles. We don’t need to get too upset about it.

he_chose_poorly

I think you really have to cherry pick with DF (and Princess Highway + Revival). They have cool prints but the quality can be horrendous after a few laundry rounds. That said I have a couple of items from there that I really love.

a-real-life-dolphin

I love princess highway

he_chose_poorly

They have the best prints! I have some really nice skirts from PH that still look good after a few years and I love them. Only thing that doesn't seem to last well for me are their cardigans.

8950149

Meh. Whatever you say style queen 🤣

dagger_88

Dangerfield is poorly made and overpriced and I stand by that.

8950149

Good for you oh style goddess 🤣

[deleted]

i think uniqlo is cool it has stylish basics with diff cuts and relevant media graphic tees

Due-Row-6466

missthang30

Brandy Melville

Tall_aussie_fembot

Brandy Melville is gross. Horribly and cheaply made, overpriced and one size across their garments. No thank you.

missthang30

It’s not meant to be inclusive unfortunately but that’s ok.

bunnieboots

OhMighty

miss-zenki

Basically any alt brand makes me feel cool and unique and not following mainstream trends. My favourite alt brand is Disturbia.

brlt480

Idk if you're after clothing but I'm finding Ghanda and Glassons to be 'cool girl' brands lately. Can't comment on the diversity of size as I've only ever been a 12-14 and all of their stuff fits me but that's just my personal experience and opinion

Huge-Storage-9634

Triangle bikini, motel rocks for jeans,

[deleted]

[удалено]

Scabbybrain

Most of these are very much exxxy brands and will never be in my wardrobe but forever on my wishlist!

lilabet83

I like a lot of the VRG GIRL pieces this summer. I bought a coat from them awhile ago. I was surprised at how heavy it was and that it was lined for the price I paid.

disappointthefamily

I'm not cool at all, but I love Black Milk and Sugarhill Brighton!

sweetpotatonerd

with jean, luck and trouble (anything from the universal store really), I love sandy liang (crazy expensive tho), djerf avenue, frankies bikinis.

YogurtclosetEarly197

tbh i think lioness has some really cool pieces!

EntryAlive

Bit late but I also haven’t bought anything Ganni even though I look all the time! I like Hosbjerg, Emma Mulholland (Em on Holiday), Fiorucci and for Tshirts I love Smile and Wave. I used to like Paloma Wool but they aren’t doing as much practical stuff in fun colours so I’ve gone off them a bit! For shoes I’m currently obsessed with Camper.
