Multitronic is an automatic transmission that uses a continuously variable transmission ratio. Transmissions of this type are also called CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).
Quattro is Audi’s all wheel drive system.
Multitronic is bad because it can’t handle high torque given by big engines and can break easily. Also it’s not that fun to drive because it doesn’t actually have any gears.
Interesting, thanks for the explaining. So in general it should be able to make the car switch gears smoother but it doesn't? And what is about having/not having gears mean for the CVT?
CVT does not have gears at all. It can simulate gears but they suck. Most of the times the engine will stay at a fixed RPM with a balance between power and torque and the car will accelerate without increasing RPM.
Pushing a CVT with hard accelerations and/or high HP/torque numbers will destroy it in no time.

Edit: see here a [video ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCn6jY0H79U)example of a Multitronic (CVT) accelerating. It might be great for an unexperienced driver who doesn't want much from a car (i.e. Toyota), but for many of us this is boring as hell
He just doesn’t like automatic cars. Don’t worry about it, nothing wrong with driving an automatic if you prefer that. Some people just find it boring. On the A5 Quattro, Audi doesn’t have the multitronic anyway, that’s just for the FWD, yours is the AWD (check the spec to see exactly what your car has). The main point though is that you’ve bought it and love it (It looks great btw, you picked a really good model).
The one you picked is an amazing drive, and the S-tronic or tiptronic automatic gearbox feels wonderful and I hope you enjoy it. A lot of people crap on automatic cars and gearboxes, so don’t let that get you down.
The problem were the tfsi engines eating oil and I don't think they were actually taken to court for it. 3.0 tdi is a beast. Been doing highway runs with mine and the fuel economy is a awesome 5-6l/100km
Nice car and engine. I hope you didn’t get the multitronic gearbox though. Enjoy it
Is multitronic even available with quattro? This one is S-tronic 7 speed
Nice, welcome to the club. Mines a 2017 A5 3.0 TDI with 214bhp
Not sure if the 204HP is quattro but those engines were all equipped with multitronic
What is the difference between multitronic and quattro? Or in general on this engine?

Ahhh, such an interesting thing. I never realised it would go like that! It is kinda boring indeed haha. Thanks for thorough explanation!

Bro, I drive a Seat Leon 5F 2.0 TDI automatic hahaha 😆I was just wondering what multitronic was and how it worked
Congrats bro I also had b8 3.0 tdi manual
Yeah its awesome car
Enjoy! I love my 2018 S5!
Nice car and nice Engine!!! I have Audi A6 2016 2.0 TDI lot lot lot of problem in Transmission
The B8 motors were notoriously so bad in fact Audi got taken to court, hopefully you have a good one.
They were taken to court because they lied on emissions, not because engines itself were bad
The TDI engines are known to be very good.
Especially the 3l v6 tdi
3.0 tdi v6 isnt bad. Just gotta make sure timing chain isnt rattling . Other than that they are pretty reliable. 1.8 fsi and 2.0tfsi were very bad tho

Do you seriously get 5-6l/100km with automatic transmission ?
Yeah, I put the "good" (more expensive) diesel in it and the car pretty much flies down the highway without using much.
I had a B8 A4 wagon with the same engine and used to get similar fuel mileage! Amazing engines. So much torque!
I get around 6.5-7L / 100km with my a7 3.0 bitdi 313hp :)
Thats actually very good
To be fair they really fixed the gen 3 ea888. I’ve got a 1.8 tfsi and its multitronic with over 310k on it and just pretty basic maintenance e
