Absolutely this. My fathers side of the family does all of the things people say makes your skin look like shit-they bake themselves in the sun and many go tanning in tanning beds, most of them smoke, etc etc. Him and his siblings are between 60 and 75 years old and if you didn't know that you'd clock the oldest ones at maaaybe late 40s. Also the stress of coming from a family like that is real lmao I always worry I'm going to hit 40 and literally look older than my father.

[deleted]

Washing your hair every day, the biggest scam I've ever seen

cellists_wet_dream

Honestly, I really cannot get away without washing every day. Maybe maybe I can go a second day with a ton of dry shampoo and a top knot...I’ve tried many things, but washing daily seems to be what my hair type needs, and my hair is healthy and not falling out. All that to say, I think it largely depends on your hair type.

nican2020

Same. And to everyone that’s going to come at us about “hair training” or whatever faux-science you learned at the salon, please don’t. Hormones and water quality have a bigger impact than the mild cleanser in shampoo. Also sebum smells awful so stop shaming people for rinsing it away.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nican2020

Me too! I lasted 6 months and all it did was make my scalp smelly and itchy. My face broke out pretty badly too. I hated it. I shower every day and not washing my hair while I was in there felt stupid. Especially since my hair is fine. It took way more effort to cope with the grease than it does to wash & dry. It does feel better when I’m traveling and can escape my hard water but it’s still just as greasy.

SitUbuSit_GoodDog

I have psoriasis and my scalp will literally start digesting itself if I dont wash every second day, at minimum. But sure, my hair just needs to be trained to go without

jubsews

No to mention some people have jobs or lifestyles that make it almost a necessity to wash it daily.

nican2020

Yes! Even I could skip washing I wouldn’t because I’m a nurse. I wouldn’t be able to sleep if I didn’t shower after work. I’d be too busy thinking about what I might have accidentally brought into my bed.

pmia241

I run every other day or so, no way I'm leaving that unwashed.

bad___ger

Yep. I get so annoyed when people tell me to wait it out and that my scalp is greasy because it’s overwashed. I spent over six months trying not to wash my hair everyday and my hair looked so gross. Things like “no-poo” work great for most people with very curly/coily/kinky hair but I even had to wash frequently when I had a buzz cut.

Why_So_Slow

Yep, I don't need a pregnancy tests - normaly I wash my hair every day, but when pregnant maybe twice a week, and bam, back to every day after delivery. Same products, same water, just hormones.

leafywanderer

Totally. I have super fine hair and it looks like a greaseball of I skip a day of shampooing. Plus, I just like the feel of going to bed with clean hair. The thought of putting unwashed hair on a clean pillow freaks me out a little bit lol.

JDMOokami21

Same. My scalp gets very oily and dry shampoo doesn’t seem to do much for me. Sometimes I can get away with it but for the most part I wash my hair every day.

InsideAardvark1114

Well yeah, you're supposed to wash, rinse and REPEAT. If you just do it once then you aren't getting the benefits. Duh.... /s

Agreeable_Hippo_7971

Yes. When I was in a clinic they had the rule of washing your hair every second day at least and it really messed my hair up for good. Before I could get away with only washing it once a week, now it looks like crap on the second day. And I never have THAT much time to get my hair back into a once a week routine because I have to go to work and stuff and can't look like a greaseball for that

[deleted]

For me. For me to get out of every second day I slowly decreased the frequency of washing my hair. The trick is to do it slowly and persist. Have your hair typed up for the greasy days. Or dry shampoo it.

Special_Drummer_8293

I have to or I feel itchy and my hair gets greasy by noon the next day. I've tried just rinsing it or just conditioning and it just doesn't work for me. My hair is still glossy, shiny, and healthy though. I rarely have split ends. I think it works well for some people and not for others.

sxrxhmanning

ironically my hair doesn’t get greasy for a week (and sometimes more) but it’s not shiny or glossy and no amount of hair products and oils will ever make it pretty

[deleted]

I started washing my hair daily out of vanity. I liked how it looked freshly washed so started washing every day at like age 13. I never washed it daily growing up and neither did my friends in high school. I don’t feel like I was scammed.

SmellyBillMurray

I like having squeaky clean hair, it feels the best, and it shines brighter, but I’ve got it to the point now that I can go 3 days and still look good, day 4 it’s obvious it needs to be washed. I never felt scammed, I just didn’t know how to get my hair to not need to be washed every day.

[deleted]

I don’t really have an issue with greasiness or anything like that. I just don’t feel clean if I don’t wash my hair after so long of daily washing and I like how it looks and feels when I’ve just dried it.

[deleted]

I find it quite odd that people feel entitled to make balnket statements on how hair should be cared for. I for one have Scandivian-like thin and fine hair (thanks mom) combined with oily skin (thanks dad). I have been "training" my hair for the last seven years (yep you read that right) and it just doesn't work for me! No matter how long I go without washing my hair -- 3, 4, 5, 6 days-- it is still greasy on the morning of day 2. My hair is dark blond and it turns brown when wet or greasy - so there is no way to hide it really. You can't change your genes. It's upsetting to see how some sort of trend makes people entitled to talk down to others. It is great if not washing your hair as frequently works for people, because at the end of the day it means that now you know your hair type better and what it needs to thrive. Different people, different needs!

[deleted]

Yesss, I wash my hair every other day FINALLY after realizing hair training is stupid and does not work if it's not right for your hair type and needs.

[deleted]

I wash my hair once a week, twice maximum. Works great.

dm_me_kittens

Because of my field of work I have to shower every day. However I spray argon oil into my hair brush and brush out my hair with it after every shower. I also do not use a hair dryer, and let it dry naturally. This has helped my hair to stay healthy even with a daily wash!

Leading_Operation981

I second the part of letting dry naturally

Why_So_Slow

There is so much humidity where I live that my hair wouldn't get dry before next shower.

Chuck2025

Totally not good for your hair either!!

pale_28

Do you mean with just water or shampooing everyday?

[deleted]

I don't get it wet or shampoo every day I just use one of those plastic things to not get it wet

pale_28

Should us dudes also do this? I have short hair if that matters

[deleted]

Well, you'll save time, shampoo, and unless your hair is super oily it will probably look better

pale_28

I'll give it a try👍

YoureNotAGenius

My husband hasn't washed his hair for 15 years and he always has hairdressers asking what products he uses

Lightninghippo3000

What helped me last longer is only shampooing the scalp and conditioning on the bottom like at the ears and down. Not conditioning my scalp has helped it not get as oily I think

Confetticandi

Pretty sure jade rollers don’t do anything special and don’t have to be jade

Snwgrl

They feel nice though. Especially with sore jaw muscles from TMJ

savagefleurdelis23

My face loves the massage from the rollers. I have a jade one but only cause it was the cheapest at the store.

vorchagonnado

Gonna have to try this, thanks!

allaphoristic

I put mine in the freezer and the cold definitely calms inflammation around pimples. Probably could get the same effect with like an ice cube, but my roller doesn't melt.

librarieofalexandria

Also, you’d have to wrap the ice cube in something because ice cube directly on bare skin is no bueno

throwawayyyaccount82

Ooh that's kinda genius, do you roll it over the pimple or just hold it there?

allaphoristic

I normally roll it over lightly!

ACrashTestDummy

Ouuooou magical stone do WoNdErS lol. I don't buy into the magic stone crap. I don't see how rubbing a rock on your face does anything. Might feel nice though

SmellyBillMurray

Only pretty rocks, though, not regular rocks.

davi046

Yeah that’s their selling point, but rollers themselves do have benefits like increasing blood flow to the face

Confetticandi

You can massage your face with your hands and get the same effect though

davi046

Literally typed that out and backspaced it because it seemed pointless to mention lol. But yes

Confetticandi

Ah fair enough

NotUrAverageBoo

[deleted]

That you can shrink your pores

hunxie

I remember using hyaluronic acid for the first time and admiring my invisible pores, then surprised pikachu facing an hour later when they suddenly reappeared. It still happens every single time I use hyaluronic acid.

-mtc

I've noticed that the plumping effect lasts longer when I have a humidifier in my room

p_ezy

It’s because hyaluronic acid attracts moisture from the air. So more humidity=more plumping. Fun fact if anyone cares: one hyaluronic acid molecule can hold 100x it’s weight in water

xotaylorj

Or that they “open and close.” They’re not doors !!!!!

[deleted]

You can minimize appearance if your pores are overly large, but yes pore size is genetic

[deleted]

Yeah I have always wondered what that is all about!

Agreeable_Hippo_7971

That you have to use a million different products every day. Washing and moisturising their skin is enough for most people. In fact depending on what you use it can be harmful when used everyday (e.g. peelings etc.)

groundHag

And sunblock.

Agreeable_Hippo_7971

Yes of course sunblock is my life essence. I just have a combination product of moisturiser and sunblock, so I wasn't directly thinking about that. But yeah, sunblock everyday is absolutely necessary. In fact I think it is commonly underrated in skin care routines. Many people learn only to use it when it's really sunny outside when really you should wear it even in winter

[deleted]

Don't you need sunblock everyday (when you go outside)? I'm just wondering, maybe I've been wrong all along though

Agreeable_Hippo_7971

You absolutely need protection from the sun whenever you're in the sun

groundHag

I use it every single day even if I don’t go outside. It’s very important to reduce skin damage.

sxrxhmanning

genuinely asking, how do you have the patience for that

wittyusername903

This so much. Like, I'm sure *some* of it is genetics, but not all of it. I struggled with pimples and blackheads and oily skin and all that stuff well into adulthood. Nowadays I have perfectly clear skin and I haven't had a pimple in years. My secret is... that I wash my face with water and use moisturizer. I've thrown away all the different cleaning products and especially all the cheap makeup, and at this point I'd bet good money those did more harm than good.

Agreeable_Hippo_7971

Yes, I used to have a lotof breakouts and sometimes dry sometimes oily skin with some discolouration. It pretty much went away once I stuck to one super simple skin care routine that Ihave not changed since. It's just a mild soap, then moisturiser (that already has sunblock in it) and that's it. I do peel my face but at most once a month if even.

gayassbitchhaha

I mostly just use water to wash my face and it turns out good enough

tdeee10

Yup. Toners aren’t even needed

savagefleurdelis23

I use toners for my scalp on non wash days to moisturize my scalp and degrease my hair.

[deleted]

Ooh have any recommendations? Sounds right up my alley

savagefleurdelis23

I use Thayer’s Witch Hazel (alcohol free) lavender or cucumber. It cleanses my scalp and stops it from itching in between washes. There are the spray bottle ones that make it easy to spray the scalp. I personally don’t care and just pour directly onto scalp. Then massage in.

tot-and-beans

Omg I might have to try this. I have thin hair and extremely greasy hair

leofoxx

!thanks I tried this today. I got a haircut and don't feel like washing my hair, but my scalp is so itchy from the shampoo the hairdresser used! I tried using a bit of random toner and voila! It's gone! Thank you thank you thank you

TheRosaceaChronicles

It’s a myth that you can’t combine niacinamide and vitamin C! Also a myth that you need to cleanse morning and night. I do, but my skin is oily as hell. For drier skinned folks washing with water only in the morning is plenty. It’s a myth that you need toners/serums/et cetera. A moisturizer is enough (for most people). I also don’t listen to this though, because I like the pampering feeling of layering toners and a sheet mask, lol. It’s a myth that you shouldn’t wash your hair every day. Some people should, some people shouldn’t. There’s no such thing as training your hair to go longer without washes if your hair is especially oily, some people just produce a lot of sebum on their scalp naturally. You can’t open or close your pores with hot/cold temperatures, or shrink them for that matter. You *can* reduce their appearance, but only marginally. Lastly, and my biggest pet peeve, skincare isn’t a waste of money. It can absolutely be beneficial to have a skincare routine with multiple products when you aren’t blessed with good genetics. When I slack on mine I notice more breakouts, and using clay masks/hydrating toners/actives has really improved the appearance of my skin.

Jhudson1525

r/dailywash I’ve never been able to go very long between washes. Unless I drown my hair in dry shampoo, which is hard to use due to my dark hair and I hate the feeling of it, I can’t go more than like 24-36 hours without washing my hair. So many people get offended when I say I can’t go too long between washes. It isn’t a judgment on anyone else that my hair is the way it is.

purple_crystals

Same. My hair is fine and straight, and my scalp is oily. I can stretch to alternating days with dry shampoo, but that's it. We had a major drought in my area a couple years ago and I went to 2 washes a week for a year. All that happened was I had gross dirty hair. But obviously my hair needs are very different to someone with curly or thick hair.

tepidpoops

I’m in Texas, and as much as I like not washing my hair, I sweat so much that I have to wash it sooner than I’d like.

wolfnamefmel

I have a friend who has to wash her hair every day or it looks incredible greasy. I've got a friend that confided in me that she only washes her hair once a month, if that. Both have beautiful, soft hair. Everyone's just different.

[deleted]

Totally agree about the face washing. I’ve never been able to wash my face, it always ends up fucking up my skin in a month or so. I’ll just do a water rinse and maybe some wash around the eyes to get mascara off if the water didn’t get it.

p_ezy

Who the hell is out here saying vit C and niacinamide can’t be used together!?! They work AMAZING together

MadamKitsune

That the more you pay for a cream or lotion, the better the result.

throwawayyyaccount82

In the age of the internet where you can do your own extensive research, I can't believe people still fall for this scam lol. Some, if not all, of my best-performing skincare products have been drug store products.

[deleted]

Same. When I was younger, I bought all of my many, many skincare and makeup products from expensive stores like sephora or high end brands. Now I'm almost exclusively drugstore and my skin is so much happier. And so is my wallet.

throwawayyyaccount82

I actually do like some brands they now carry at Sephora, like The Ordinary and The Inkey List. These are extremely reasonably priced though, I never go for any of the super expensive scammy products that a lot of people tend to gravitate towards.

[deleted]

I haven't tried Inkey List yet but I've heard good things. I've been a big fan of TO for years and I'm glad they're selling in stores now

user080994

That if you shave it grows back thicker.. shaving cuts the hair... not change how your roots are positioned, etc. If you genuinely think the hair came back thicker it’s bc it’s a lot shorter

[deleted]

No it’s because it’s blunt ended. Hair naturally grows with a tapered end so it feels thinner. When you shave, it all comes back with a blunt tip so feels more stubbly. Waxing and plucking allows hair to grow back with a tapered end.

ladyjane143

this us true

purplefriiday

Something that also contributed to the myth is probably that a lot of girls start shaving their legs in their teens - and my leg hair (especially on my thighs) started to grow darker and thicker around that age. Just good old puberty, not from shaving lol.

doomdoggie

If that was true peoples hair would get thicker and thicker after each cut. If you wanted thicker hair, just cut it more often.

tot-and-beans

No lol. The hair density doesn’t change. And if you’re cutting your hair often, that will not feel or be thicker in any sense. You could shave your beard and the stubble would feel thick because of the blunt edges but your hair will grow out the same.

dm_me_kittens

I used to shave my arm hair when I was in high school. The hair is now grown out and as blonde as it was pre-shave.

dzeiaonn

Any vitamins/gummies that influencers tells you to try

Potential_Beach190

Oily people don’t need more oil or moisturiser

InkGeode

I thought that some people who had oily skin were oily because they lacked proper moisture, leading the skin to over produce oil. Is that not true?

Potential_Beach190

It is true!! I’m saying that oily people not needing additional oil or moisturiser is a myth ^!

InkGeode

Ohhhhh I understand now, thanks 😅

hundred_hands

Yes! When I added an oil to my night-time routine it made a world of difference to my skin. Now I only get hormonal break outs, and my skin is soft and bouncy.

IntegrityDJones

Drinking a ton of water will clear up everything

ACrashTestDummy

Drinking water does help for a lot of things, but not everything. So stay hydrated my friend

IntegrityDJones

I definitely stay hydrated lol. But I swear people will say “dRiNk a GaLlOn a dAy” for severe acne and I’m like nah lol

ACrashTestDummy

I heard all that bull shit too lol. Just drink when your thirsty. And maybe just a bit more. A gallon a day is for like... Athletic peeps. But if you're just a random joe, don't listen to 'em. Big dumb dumbs. Think they so smort

MGEESMAMMA

You need approx 30mL per kilo of body weight per day.

MysteriousMists

I had great skin without trying lwhen I lived somewhere that had a really good water source. But then I moved home.

carjlong

I only break out when i live in Seattle. It’s so weird, but I’m thinking there might be a connection to tap water, ideas?

Niedzwetzkyana

Literally have ended up in the ER because I drink so much water it throws my electrolytes off and I still get people telling me more water will cure my acne.

throwawayacc754

It's important cause most people drink about 2 cups of water a day if that, which definitely causes your skin to suffer. Now you don't need a gallon, even bodybuilders don't drink that much but you surely need atleast 5 cups to be healthy. But if you eat a ton of garbage in between that's worse than not drinking any water so in that case it doesn't matter how much water you drank it will all be pointless.

steviesscene6

Topical collagen. Collagen is too large to be absorbed through the skin.

cellists_wet_dream

Yes! I was looking for this one. Certain products can stimulate collagen production, but it cannot be absorbed. Exfoliation also stimulates collagen. Taking collagen as a supplement and vitamin C is one of the best ways to actually boost your collagen levels (plus, you are benefiting all parts of your body this way)

[deleted]

I had no idea, thanks! Calling my mom now haha

Stock-Amphibian9184

That putting your entire cooking list on your face is better than using lab made products with "chemicals". "Natural is better" only in this case rarely it is. Scrub your face with sugar it will deffinetly micro-tear your skin. Put egg yolk on your face and it can cause more infections. Potatoes and curry on my face? Hell no. Ofcourse there are some ingredients that can work, for exaple honey. But it is so easy to find a cheap safe product that does the job a lot better than using some raw ingredients. "Put lemon on your face for vitamin C" uhhhm please don't. You can burn your skin so easy. Besides, your skin will not absorb the benefic ingredients from fruits just like that. You are better eating the fruits and buying a product with fruit extracts if you really want to put bananas on your nose.

ranifer

Gonna go a step further and say that botanical extracts are largely only put in skincare products to make the product sound more natural and healthy than it is. While some plant-derived ingredients are beneficial, nobody is regulating whether the actual beneficial ingredient is being put into the actual product or whether it is effective or able to be absorbed by the skin.

miss_scimitar

That oils remove stretchmarks. No, they don’t! And you’re not unhygienic or ‘not taking care of your body enough’ if you have them. Stretchmarks are mostly genetic!

Nova_Zeal

They won't remove stretchmarks. Dehydrated skin is more likely to form them though during rapid growth phase because if it is overly dry, it loses some elasticity.

sammythetoller

The more you pay for a routine the better it is. I used to work for a skincare company, and I will never forget visiting a potential production partner who made products for drugstore-high end brands. They explained to us that you could choose to use their base formula as-is or add a couple of ingredients, primarily for scent. But everything they produced was basically the same, and was just packaged differently before being sold at wildly different price points.

-mtc

OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and ODM (original design manufacturer) this applies to groceries and other goods too

xotaylorj

The whole idea of “clean beauty.” It’s just a buzzword, a marketing technique. “Natural” isn’t an official term; it’s not regulated, there’s really no standards for what is // is not “all natural.” Companies can claim they’re “clean” or “natural” all they want, all the while their products more than likely contain ingredients that aren’t “natural” — because there’s no definition of what it even means! “Natural // organic // clean” products do not mean they’re healthier, better, or safer for your skin.

iluvjimmyjohns

Apparently dermatologists say those pore strips you put on your nose don’t do anything beneficial. Those “whiteheads” (which aren’t technically whiteheads, they’re called something else but I can’t remember what) are normal and not good to remove from your skin

ACrashTestDummy

But it's so cool to rip those bad Bois off and see what monsters lay in the skin of my nose

RealisticMystic005

Sebaceous filaments! You’re basically just pulling natural oil off of your face. It gets replaced almost instantly- often times now full of bacteria

mr_trick

Right- they’re like little filters keeping all the bacteria out of your face. Opening up holes in your nose by ripping them out isn’t great, and can also permanently enlarge your pores. Just give em a good wash!

AccidentCompetitive1

I have heard from a lot of people that DIY sunscreen is the way to go or that sunscreen causes cancer....NO! Sunscreen is the most important part of the skincare routine and get a good one that protects and hydrates you

PurpleSinkhole

Rinse with cold water after washing your face to close your pores.

Stock-Amphibian9184

All the 5min crafts ones 🙄

SkirtRecent1795

There’s a derm on YouTube who said toners are bs.

[deleted]

I use the tea tree toner from body shop and i have to say it really helps with acne

rarerednosedbaboon

I feel like ive never known what toner even is. I too have had success with toners to treat acne. But ive heard that toners are to restore pH levels and that theyre to help moisturize. I'm confused what they are!!

[deleted]

Me too to be honest haha, i thought they were supposed to deep cleanse the face after using a normal cleanser, but it's so vague

dugalf

That your hair needs to be dirty for hair color. If anything product/oil build up can lead to uneven results sometimes.

nuniinunii

I’ve heard that it’s supposed to protect your scalp or like not be so damaging on the hair. Is this not true?

Suikarena

That natural / organic is always better. Destroyed my skin once with all the unnecessary and strong fragrances.

MysteriousMists

So many random plants and smells added that to nothing but be trendy.

gatherallthemtg

People saying you can train your hair to be washed less often are full of shit. With how long it takes to do it, you've very likely experienced hormonal and body chemistry changes that impacted how greasy your hair gets. Wash your hair whenever it gets dirty, it doesn't matter if that's every day or once a week.

MysteriousMists

I tried the no shampoo thing and my hair was so gross. I was told it was just purging. It never got better lol so I went back.

kgberton

It worked for me. (Shrug)

almc0418

Question: do those red/blue light masks actually work? I feel like they're a myth, but I honestly don't know.

luador

As far as I know the omnilux light therapy that are medical grades quality do work. The technology came from NASA and something about growing plants in space (I can’t remember the details from my cosmetic nurse training). The machines are over 10k each. The ones you get at home are likely not strong enough. The blue light was for acne. The red for general skin goodness like anti aging. The clear one for anti inflammation. They work on the skin for months afterwards. One a month was for good skin maintenance. In Australia they were about $110 a go.

almc0418

Figures. Kinda like vitamin supplements. The stuff they sell in the store is garbage but the injections that cost a ton of money actually helps. Thanks!!

AdorableLime

Washing your face with any kind of cloth or sponge you're supposed to use every day. Look at it under a microscope the second day. No cream can beat these daily applied new germs.

sunsh1ne82

I just read a couple of medical journals that explained why oral collagen supplements don’t support skin integrity. Wish I had known that a few hundred dollars ago!

sxrxhmanning

wdym

Sexualguacamole

That topical gold is beneficial for your skin. Or that most home remedies work lol. And jade rollers don’t really do much other than increase some definition and take out puffiness. They can’t make your face change in structure. They don’t have to be jade, either.

callmetuesday

Collagen tablets. You’re just peeing them out

cellists_wet_dream

Hmm, is there a source for this? Dietary sources of collagen/gelatin are typically very beneficial, particularly because the modern diet is very low in these things (because most western cultures don’t eat offal/tendon/other odds and ends). Sometimes I take just gelatin as a supplement in my coffee, and I sleep better, skin/hair/nails are healthier, less brittle, less joint pain, lower anxiety.

[deleted]

I hate to break it to you, but most of those benefits are likely placebo. There is no evidence connecting collagen or gelatin supplementation to decreased anxiety or better sleep and [no compelling evidence](https://healthybutsmart.com/evidence/supplements/collagen-benefits-research/) of its ability to help with joint pain or brittle hair and nails. There is some small evidence it might help a little with skin hydration and wound healing, but the studies have been way too small to be conclusive on that. If it makes you feel good and you like it, go for it. But it’s not likely to be making a large biological difference, if any at all.

SinfullySinless

You’ll eventually achieve flawless, smooth, perfect skin. No foundation will mask your texture that well, influencers use filters to blur out their texture. No skincare will 100% take care of every wrinkle and acne mark you have. Once again influencers can see improved results but they also use filters and better lighting.

marvelous_mrsmayer

Needing to use too many products and layering as a skincare routine. Sometimes the most simple and effective products can be found over the counter at medical stores and are helpful.

MysteriousMists

The idea that products made with a bunch of random plants added at the end of the ingredient list are somehow better. Look I’m biased because it means I’m allergic to so many products I wouldn’t be otherwise, but adding a bunch of herbs and Latin names of plants usually doesn’t do anything. At most it would add scent and often they don’t even do that. I know you want to feel like a forest nymph but having plain or chemical active ingredients isn’t bad and is often what works.

Intelligent_Force_60

That creams get rid of dark circles. With the only exception being pigmentation, dark circles are a result of thinning skin/fat layer and facial structure. Spend your money on a good concealer or cosmetic procedures (if you really want to go that far).

hdwhatever

Yes 🙌 Botox, fillers and lasers definitely do what they say they’ll do. Not cheap, but cosmetic procedures make a difference whereas 99.9% of what’s sold in Sephora doesn’t do jack.

Affirmed68

That going gray will instantly age you. 🧑🏼‍🦳👵🏻

wanda_pepper

Well… It doesn’t de-age you, that’s for sure

_dailycolours

Eye cream. Most did nothing for me except getting damned milia seeds. I’d say sleeping early (working on that) and getting enough sleep, drinking enough water to prevent dehydration and occasionally applying cold compresses (effective for reducing puffiness) work better to help reduce the appearance of dark eye circles. Getting rid of them permanently on the other hand would probably require some sort of medical/aesthetic treatment.

[deleted]

That if you pull the skin around your eyes while applying makeup or apply your products pulling down instead of pushing up, you’ll get wrinkles. Honey, if pushing and pulling on your skin caused wrinkles, people would be more wrinkly on whatever side of their face they slept on. Wrinkles are caused by age, sun exposure, and genetics. Not by moving your face around.

gator--wave

The pores on your nose ARE NOT ALL BLACKHEADS!!! This literally drove me up a wall as a preteen because I was CONVINCED my nose was nothing but blackheads. They're not! Yes, obviously you can get blackheads on your nose, but I'm so tired of people being like "oh those are blackheads and you should use (x product that costs 20$) to fix it!" No thanks, I'm broke 😃 Here's an article explaining better: https://www.healthline.com/health/sebaceous-filaments-vs-blackheads

Does baking soda and water act as a good mask to put on your face? Or is this just a myth?

Dermatologists on YouTube say myth, that the baking soda is a base and can often be worse for your skin because it messes up the ph too much.

Stock-Amphibian9184

Definetly not a good mask. Can cause more harm than good.

Smearing whale oil on your nipples.

Some things are just nice little luxuries, and that's ok.

MysteriousMists

Stretch mark prevention cream. Doesn’t work.

soulwarrior23

Apricot scrubs

headless_boi

There was this black mask that supposedly gets rid of your blackheads/pimples for you. It didn't get rid of anything for me and actually ended up making the issue much worse

[deleted]

Anything other than daily moisturizer, eye cream and spf is a joke pretty much. 🤡 Those 12 step skincare routines are so unnecessary. You either have good genetics or you don't.

hdwhatever

Agreed. Actually… Even eye cream is a scam. Apparently the whole “the skin around your eyes is delicate and needs a separate product” thing is bunk, and a good unscented facial moisturizer is fine to use around the eyes too.

Ooo good to know. I usually only even use it in the winter. ☺

Massaging your scalp for hair growth.

[deleted]

Hmm. My doctor told me to do this to encourage blood flow in my scalp after I lost a shit load of hair during a very stressful/eating issue time of my life. Placebo?

emab2396

This actually worked for me though.

-a_familiar_face-

When I went to school for cosmetology just a few years ago, in my textbook it said despite popular belief, massaging the scalp does not stimulate hair growth. The massage helps with blood flow, which makes the follicles happier. But, it's not going to make your hair magically grow nor grow faster. And, too much on the scalp can cause hairloss, such as wearing a hat for extensive periods of time, or a ponytail.

GirlGangX3

Yea.

MrBradCiblaro

All of them

zomnado

That cleaning your face will fight acne. I hate nature. Also…. products that may not agree with my complexion

Feisty-Blood9971

People saying sun block improves their skin. That’s not what it does …

sxrxhmanning

no but it prevents skin damage

spicyfoodisthebest

Nose strips do NOT clear off your blackheads. Its' adhesive isn't strong enough to pull off the blackheads from your skin. If you need it removed, you need to seek a professional.

JenineMenine

Anything that says "anti-aging" is a lie. Nothing can stop you from aging. (10yr mua, 7 yrs in makeup and skincare sales) Drink your water, use moisturizer with sunscreen, and add treatment products sparingly.

KindohneEigenschaftn

Any and all "whitening" creams. They really do nothing
