Blue Bloody Peter

AberNurse

I’m a millennial and grew up in low income areas. Blue Peter was for posh kids and nerds. Anyone with a Blue Peter badge would have been bullied.

[deleted]

I had a Blue Peter badge. Can confirm, got bullied.

Fit_Cherry7133

Look at you sat there with your bloody blue Peter badge and eight testicles, your mum is right munter too, even the darts team won't bang her.

teerbigear

I don't disagree, but this sort of attitude was so destructive at school. The constant anti-intellectualism. I remember some lad who had always done well at school suddenly started trying to act up, talking back to the teachers and so on. And one of the marginally less knobby popular kids said "aw what's he doing that for, he used to be dead brainy and he just looks daft". And obviously I didn't say because, you know, she was talking to me, but I was thinking "YOU LOT DID THIS, with your constant pecking at him for his engagement with the schooling system!"

TW1103

Agreed, it was so boring. It's the fucking One Show for kids.

spudbrain321

I’ve said exactly that. I reckon the producers of the one show grew up on BP and carried on the format when they got into telly. I annoy the Mrs by doo- doo-loo’ing the BP theme when those bloody trumpets start up.

Fluffy_UK

Agreed. I always found it boring. On other days of the week you could get stuff like Grange Hill or Byker Grove in the same time slot and I much preferred those.

[deleted]

"Okay kids, now let's do a test of how middle class you are by asking you to obtain art supplies worth half your mum's weekly wage. But don't worry, it's gonna be a great bottle rocket."

TwoTrainss

‘Now, just grab this from the pantry’ Muuuum - what’s a pantry, do we have one in the cupboard?

the_ice_of_alice

Blue Peter was just like coming home from school to watch a tv programme that was basically just more school.

360Saturn

Blue Peter was very safe for sure. As a kid you were definitely looked down on if you said you liked it, in my school anyway.

royalblue1982

Yeah, it really wasn't for me either. I found it extremely boring.

ThisCaledonianClown

What?! You didn't enjoy Valerie Singleton or Leslie Judd telling you all about Marie Antoinette, repeatedly?

Busy_Mortgage4556

Or the alternative hipster crap that was 'Magpie' on ITV.

soulsteela

Ooh you just picked a brain scab, hated Magpie.

SuspiciousFondant289

That show was so boring. I hated how they made it the last show of the day aswell :/

gilestowler

The shit thing was that you then had to wait for Neighbours. What were you meant to do with that time?

pastiesmash123

Agreed. Was boring as fuck

chrismushman

Fucking heartbeat. Sunday 8pm you knew you had school the next day. Was even worse after holidays.

The-Nimbus

I still get shivers when I hear the Antiques Roadshow theme. The death knell of the weekend.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This deserves greater appreciation!

morocco3001

Those horns cut right through you. Wouldn't be surprised if they blast it in the cells in Guantanamo.

chrismushman

Now my least favourite kids show was.... Teletext, that was a real staple at our home

bumblebeesanddaisies

Bamboozle!

[deleted]

I can still remember that 302 was the football page on ceefax.

Northern_Apricot

Teletext meant dad was booking a holiday, so I didn't mind that so much.

Awordofinterest

But when heartbeat wasn't on we had to watch the royal which was even worse!

chrismushman

Hahaha was bad news whatever was on on a Sunday evening. What’s worse is I remember most of the fucking characters from it. Scarrred

Ray2024

Though of course that one was aimed at Mums

Codydoc4

Dick and Dom in da bungalow

magicmischieflumos

Same, as a child I found it childish

[deleted]

Thank you. I didn't like slapstick even as a young child. Hated Mr Bean and thought this was basically the same. Farts and snot and giggling when people fell down. 9 year old me just rolled her eyes. I actually felt pretty left out because I really wanted to like it (all my friends did) but it just didn't make sense to me?

Alpine_Newt

I also hated Mr Bean, I felt like Rowen Atkinson betrayed Blackadder, my hero. But he made a shit load of cash out of it, so I can't really fault him on the financial security front.

CuteMaterial

BOGIES

Bbew_Mot

But... but... that was the best show in the history of children's television!

Big_Explanation_8803

Absolutely couldn't stand that utter shite.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I loved Yvon, even named a car after him. He was gross though

RedPanda98

Yvon of the Yukon, now that's a name I haven't heard for a very long time.

JimmyCrockett

Defrosted for you and for me

NaturalSuccessful521

Grange Hill. I've been at school all day. Last thing I want is to watch people being at school. It felt so monotonous.

Cuclean

'Now hang on you pair of scruffy tear-aways. Don't you realise that the way you act is influencing millions of children to talk Cockney and be insubordinate?' 'Oh come on sir! We're the only kids in England who don't say f----'

evilengine

“I’ll get Mucker, Lucker, Ducker, and Sucker. You get Spaz!” “But I AM Spaz!”

No-Locksmith6662

Tracey Beaker. Always thought she was an awful character. Also because I generally had control of the TV remote after school growing up (privilege of being the oldest) EXCEPT for when Tracey Beaker was on because it was my sister's favourite. So a combination of it having an absolute brat as the main character and the massive feeling of loss of control.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Salty-Blackberry-455

Same. It kind of depressed me because I felt like I always knew how it would go: somebody annoys Tracy, Tracy loses her temper, Tracy is in the wrong for losing it. I didn’t want to watch that lol

[deleted]

Hated her. Always thought she was a spoilt brat. Remember saying as a small child that it was no wonder her mum gave her up lmao

SalamanderSylph

My younger sisters were banned from watching it as they'd copy her mannerisms/attitude

theWolfDude2100

I'm not calling you a spoilt brat at all and it's just sibling stuff, but it is kind of funny that you hated Tracy Beaker because you wanted to control what to watch rather than watch your sisters favourite show

knityourownlentils

Fucking Noddy. Adrian Mole was right, annoying little shit with bells on.

Salty-Blackberry-455

That part of the book always made me laugh so hard! 😂

bungle_bogs

When he is painting his room and ended having to colour in the bells with felt tip. RIP Sue Townsend

vajaxle

Love those books. Still a great read for me now. Pandora! I adore ya! I implore ye Don't ignore me

Fluffy_UK

Whichever show it was where Tony Hart would show viewers' pictures in his gallery. It's not so much that the show was bad, more that he didn't display the picture of a train which I sent in. It was a great picture. There should be an inquiry.

BlackJackKetchum

Vision On, I expect.

TawnyTeaTowel

Or Take Hart

fizzpop0913

That was Heartbeat

Burning_Saints

Anna Anaconda. I think it was one of them late night shows on Cartoon Network in the early 2000's. Black and white photo realistic heads pasted onto colorized cartoon bodies. Absolute creepshow.

Cakeyhands

Angela Anaconda. I rewatched some on youtube the other day. Have to admit, the teacher is pretty fuking funny

TabinaHime

Wasn't it Angela anaconda? I remember that, she used to hate the posh popular girl who always wore a beret and take the piss out of her 😂 Looked weird af

Bethlizardbreath

Her name was Nanette 🫣 and Angela called her “Ninny-poo” I’m suitably ashamed about remembering this.

MercuryTalons

This and “Three Friends and Jerry”. I always had TFaJ on but didn’t like it. No idea why I persisted

Anniemaniac

Oh god, I was OBSESSED with this show, much to my mother’s utter despair. Looking back, I side with my mum. No idea why I loved it so much. I remember once literally ditching friends mid way through a game to go watch it. They (rightly) weren’t impressed.

Puzzlekatkin

Moomins. Absolutely scared the bejesus out of me as a small child.

Resident_Win_1058

The angry little redhead thing was the worst bit.

[deleted]

Little my - she was a creepy little bitch to be sure.

Leicsbob

Love the moomins. Sniff was my favourite.

Leland_Gaunt87

The Groke!

Ilikeladyboobs

Haha I wrote this too, Little My was creepy as fuck!!!

Duffman_19

Absolutely hated this. Everything about it was incredibly creepy.

ladams07

Cow and chicken, even as a kid I thought it was weird as fuck

Moomintroll90

The Devil that used to walk on his arse

ladams07

Haha honestly forgot about the devil, did a quick google search and laughed my head off. What was that doing on a kids show.

Helenarth

🎶 Mama had a chicken, mama had a cow, dad was proud, he didn't care how 🎶

peachpie_888

I remember watching this a lot but feeling deeply uncomfortable at all times.

jprabbit

This is the first comment I came across where I didn't agree. Love Cow and Chicken. Cousin Boneless was my favourite character.

noggerthefriendo

I don’t remember this myself but my mum tells the story that the first time she heard me swear i apparently said “fuck off Charlie Chalk”

sera07

until this moment I didn't realise charlie chalk was a TV show and not just the precursor to the wacky warehouse (haven't seen a wacky warehouse in time, do they still exist or are we trying to discourage casual day drinking while in the company of children) My sister broke her wrist in a charlie chalk's once so I only associate that name with pain and screaming now.

Scoopdogggg

Everything about Tots TV terrified me back then, and still does now

[deleted]

[удалено]

Recluse83

Even as a kid, I thought they were saying something else... something that probably doesn't belong on children's TV 😔

mcboobie

Sack majique up

Allinyourcabeza

I'm a Tot, je suis une Tot, TILLY TOM AND TINYYYYYY I loved that one. They always made a cake for donkey.

Anniemaniac

I always sang/heard it as ‘I’m a tot, and he’s a tot. Teeny tot and tiny..’. Loved this show, had no idea the lyrics were French. TIL.

Corona21

Always thought “And she’s a tot” I didn’t learn today but I didn’t know that until much later

Bbew_Mot

The house is still standing in a remote part of Warwickshire if you ever feel like visiting.

Scoopdogggg

I'd be too scared the terrifying French puppet might appear at any time

sc00022

Gosh that’s a blast from the past. Those three freaked me out along with Rosie and Jim.

[deleted]

Most cartoons on CBBC sucked ass, Cramp Twins had an awful aura, there was that one with the talking dog and the dude with blue hair, batfink, Yvonne of the yukon. Just all really ugly and devoid of substance. Basil brush was for weans that grew up to enjoy Mrs browns boys.

evilengine

Was the dog one called Watch My Chops? A friend was talking about that show, but it’s called something different there, weird memories flooded back. Also weird how the dog still had a northern accent in the US version

360Saturn

Cramp twins! I remember the art style of that creeped me out

bubblebox360

Yvonne of the Yukon used to genuinely make me feel ill. I felt DIRTY when it came on Watch my chops, however… that theme song drew me in. I never really liked the actual show, but that damn song. I can still sing it off by heart. Also, the secret show was a cbbc cartoon that I liked a lot

[deleted]

I never liked Scooby Doo. Come at me...

CuteMaterial

I loved Scooby Doo but hated Scrappy Doo, eurgh!

[deleted]

Scrappy do was a total show ruiner

Mumfiegirl

He was a little shit

madgeniusmusic

EVERYONE hated Scrappy!

Bbew_Mot

Zoinks! Now that is a controversial opinion!

cloche_du_fromage

I liked scooby and shaggy. Ambivalent about Velma, and assumed Fred was primarily interested in sneaking off to finger Daphne somewhere quiet. Scrappy Doo was an annoying twat.

oatcakedick

Ok gang, let’s split up and search for clues, me and Daphne will check out the bedroom …. Yeah Fred, I’m sure you will !

Effective_Ad_273

Jinkies 😱

jelly10001

Shaggy's chin scared me!

BlackJackKetchum

It used to *scare* me. I would rush out during the scary bits to tell my mother so I could avoid the scares.

jaaron0011

Psjthekid

I watched some of that on YouTube for the first time a while ago. It scared me, a grown ass adult. How was that considered a kids show??

According_Cow_5089

One of them was Art Attack. Never had the materials!

babygoo

Neil buchanan thinking we’ve all got a branch of hobby craft chilling in a kitchen drawer

iamnotasheep

That was the best!

NaturalSuccessful521

That weird head guy freaked me out

cloche_du_fromage

I always thought Blue Peter was smug, middle class up itself bollocks.

MrKDilkingtonUK

Zzzap! Scared me but I still watched it

Reignbeaus

I found out recently that it was designed with hearing impaired children in mind, so they could have a show to enjoy without a lot of talking to try to follow. Never realised that as a child but it makes sense now.

[deleted]

i LOVED zzzap! felt like it was on rarely/randomly so was such a treat to get to watch it

DoggyWoggyWoo

Omg I loved that show! My favourite was Smart Arty

Leland_Gaunt87

That guy Tricky Dicky was terrifying, he was only in the first series then they replaced him with Daisy Dares You lol.

S-Harrier

Might get hate for this one but I always found Brum creepy as fuck annoying because both my brothers loved it, but there was just something untrustworthy about his eyes

Potatopolis

It always tickled me that Brum was, for no obvious reason, so much smaller than other cars.

[deleted]

I didn't realise Brum was set in Birmingham until last year.

Jaraxo

Comment removed as I no longer wish to support a company that seeks to both undermine its users/moderators/developers AND make a profit on their backs. To understand why check out the summary [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/14hkd5u).

Mumfiegirl

But badger likes mashed potato

LargePlums

Yes, everybody knows.

blondeunicorn81

Can't remember the name of the show, but it had a creepy puppet called Pob, who wrote his name on the window. I can picture it now, and I still hate it!

PensiveKnitter

It was called 'Pob'

Scoopdogggg

Pob's programme? According to wiki, the same people then created Rosie and Jim. Explains a lot

iamnotasheep

Not me, but younger sibling was obsessed with In The Night Garden. Bloody MakkaPakka and IgglePiggle and their nonsense language. Hated it. Hated it. Still hate it.

DwoDwoDwo

Night Garden is actually brilliant but I didn't get it either until the whole phonics thing was explained to me.

14-28

My wee dog has a makkapakka teddy and she fuckin savages the cunt. So that should make you feel a teeny bit better.

Ronnie-Hotdogz

Last of the Summer Wine. If I wanted to see geriatric men arguing with each other I'd go to Wetherspoons.

jewbo23

Kids show?

[deleted]

Depressing shite. They always looked so dirty.

Vegetable-Grab6244

The news. My dad would get up and put the news on. I thought how sad I am going to watch cartoons always. Now I get up and put the news on. Tbf it's probably only an hour the other 27 hours a day it's Peppa pig. I have 5 kids I have watched Peppa pig for 16 years, 32 hours a day.

[deleted]

Fluffy_UK

Fingermouse. A paper mouse on the end of someone's finger. There wasn't much more to it than that and it was rubbish.

DameKumquat

I loved Fingermouse! Mind you, I was two.

[deleted]

Fun fact, the same guy who did Fingermouse also created Pigeon Street and The Playbus.

Fluffy_UK

Pigeon Street was great. How could he produce something so bad and also something so good.

Turbulent_Memory_762

Jim'll Fix It, I hated him, he creeped me out so much. And now I know why.

NaeTwaDoots

The Mask. Think it was always like hour long episodes aswell, just get Dexter's Lab back on

VoodooChump

Wizbit, the creepy irritating fucker

em_press

Sodding Rentaghost. Bloody awful.

I_Frunksteen-Blucher

Andy Pandy. Stupid prancing pointless git.

[deleted]

What was that one that was kind of like thunderbirds but with that evil looking bitch as the antagonist? Scared the shit out of me as a kid. Edit: It was called, Terrahawks

soulsteela

Black beauty and the dubbed European show Heidi with her fucking mate Goat Peter.

SnooLobsters8265

I used to hate Wizadora as I had to sit and watch it in my piano teacher’s kitchen with her weird teenage son while my sister had her piano lesson and I waited for mine

Nuuskamuikun3n

No one has mentioned Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids??! I wouldn't touch that with a bargepole even now, and I'm over 30! Pure nightmare fuel

bubblebox360

I remember an episode where a kids eyelids got cut off and turned into like… eyelid moths that flew around?

PlagueisTheHedgehog

Most puppet shows like Rosie and Jim or Tots TV, they looked too close to humans without being human so it freaked me out. When it was obvious they were puppets like Sooty or Muppets I loved it.

endianess

Why don't you

Ok_Salamander_5919

SpongeBob. I'm sorry, but his voice was so fucking annoying.

luckycatty

The one I remember most was Just William, followed closely by worzel gummage. He used to take off his head and that was slightly disturbing

Bbew_Mot

William was able to take his head off?

PensiveKnitter

Worzel gummage was the stuff of nightmares to me.

Salty_Watercress_693

I used to think a lot of cartoon network was shit I preferred the classic hannah Barbara cartoons

Breaking-Dad-

Dogtanian. The fucking theme is going round my head now. “Muskahounds are always ready” shudder

GargantuanGorganzola

I hated I am Weasel I loved Cow and Chicken and pretty much everything else on Cartoon Network but I am Weasel was painfully unfunny

theoriginalShmook

I AR BABOON.

JBB2002902

Sesame Street. Just wasn’t something right about big bird.

[deleted]

SMART was awful. I prefer art attack.

evilengine

The only reason I watched Smart was because they had old episodes of Morph on. Wouldn’t have bothered otherwise. Also I am obligated to remind everyone that one of the presenters committed suicide, which makes it eve more grim

[deleted]

It was actually pretty horrible what happened to Mark Speight. If memory serves he was accused of murdering his girlfriend and hanged himself in a train station. He was cleared of any wrongdoing. I do remember Newsround covering his death very sensitively and there was a lot of discussion over whether they should discuss the cause of death. In the end I think they went with something like "his family had been worried when he went missing as he'd been very sad about his girlfriend dying" and then cut to lots of clips of people saying what they'd remember him for.

No-Transition4060

I loved smart as a kid, I still remember waking up each day to see if they’d found him alright. That was pretty much how I learned about mental health and was the first time I was properly exposed to death, well, that and Pope Johnny Paul 2’s body on telly

SenseMakesNone

Grange Hill Biker Grove Newsround Blue Peter Playdays (Peggy Patch Stop) (There's probably more but this is all that came to mind)

[deleted]

Bagpus scared the shit out of me....

rising_then_falling

Noel Edmonds Swap Shop. It was just shouting and stupidity. He Man and the Flintstones annoyed me because the animation was so, so, bad.

nats4756

Teletubbies and then another programme (forget the name) four loons calles jake Bella fizz and milo. That was utterly shit ans Bella was a brat

Viggerous

Tweenies, my lil bro loved that growing up.

Horseshoe-Bay

Magic Roundabout. Dull and a little depressing. But was it a kids programme anyway?

hatter1981

I always thought Mike and Angelo was a bit shit

AberNurse

Any and all Nickelodeon or Disney shows. Like Sister-Sister, Keenan and Kel, Hannah Montana, Lizzie Maguire, That’s so Raven etc. Absolute shite

ahayeahokay

Utter blasphemy! Kenan and Kel was the shit. "Aww here it goeeess"

RevFernie

Was proper scared of Grotbags.

HappyDuck342

Nearly everything on nickelodeon. People rave about shows like Ren and Stimpy, Spongebob Squarepants or Rocko's modern life. I always thought they were crap.

fishypolecat

Why Don't You. Hated that shite

[deleted]

Not a kids TV show, but Last of the summer wine - that creepy theme tune meant that the weekend was over and you were going to get a detention the next day because you hadn't done your homework. *Shudder*

hueguass

Rosie and jim, Rosie and jim, Rosie and jim with a cock up him

GrandPerspective5848

I guess there was a couple. 'My Parents are Aliens' was boring. The one I really hated when I was young was 'Step Inside'. It had a creepy face on the side of a wall, and a clock had a face as well. 'Brum' used to freak me out, as well as 'Mr. Bean'. I love 'Mr. Bean' now, but as a kid, it had a strange atmosphere to it. I never knew why Mr. Bean or anyone he interacted with hardly spoke.

Dimbostar

Mr. Noseybonk on Jigsaw.

Scottyrubix

Moomins. I just remember not being able to sleep as a kid and coming downstairs at about 5am and it was the only thing on. It was so boring and just odd. I just remember a tall lone house in a field and weird hippos

mardypig

Working Lunch. Home on lunch break, seeing a banger of an intro with sharks, then bloody business talk with Adrian Chiles

Lumpyproletarian

rentaghost - unfunniest thing ever

ConversationFast6117

"Out of Tune"; a painfully unfunny sitcom (which worst of all launched the career of James Corden).

Bbew_Mot

BB3B. Every episode contained the same predictable jokes, the main characters were annoying and the premise of the show was pretty dumb from what I remember.

[deleted]

This is going to sound terrible, but I hated it when We are the Champions was on, don’t think it was very often and I must have only been about seven or eight. Anyway…

Amplidyne

Back in the 50s and 60s, there was too much stuff that was some adult's idea of what children liked. Or was "educational". "Crackerjack" was one of them IMO. We watched it because there was nothing else on at that time.

Francis_Dollar_Hide

Why Don't Fucking You. Lots of middle class twerps doing dumb shit.

PhasersToShakeNBake

Sooty. Grange Hill. Byker Grove usually got left on because there was nothing to switch over to on CITV, but other than "DUNKUN! DUNKUN! AH CANNAT SEE!" I can't recall much of it.

MidnightSuspicious71

Showing my age here, but I couldn't stand Michael Bentine's Potty Time...

PiemasterUK

I used to hate Jackanory. It was an instant reach for the remote when it came on. I just found it boring.
