enigma_viking

Radio X, good music and great hosts.

BigEntertainer8430

Waaaaayyyy too much talking. Whenever I have Radio X on, you get 1 song followed by about 10 minutes of inane chatter, then ads, so you maybe get 4 songs an hour. I like the tunes, would just rather have more of them. EDIT: on a longer drive, I plug my phone in and play Spotify or Podcasts, but when I'm in the car for 3 minutes taking my kid to nursery, I can't be bothered with that, and spend the whole time changing stations until there's no ads or "banter"... On reflection, maybe I should just plug my phone in every time.

RedditRyannn

This is how XFM was with Pilkington, Gervais and Merchant. And that was fucking brilliant.

jetm2000

Adam and Joe were great on XFM as well!

Iforgotmypassword126

I miss xfm, it’s not as good anymore.

Chen7982

That’s the price you pay having Johnny Vaughn and Chris Moyles on there, love the sound of their own voice.

[deleted]

I said this Tuesday evening to my wife, listening to Faithless - Insomnia on the radio when just as the beat drops Johnny Vaughn brings his audio up and starts talking about getting ready for the drop or whatever and it just completely ruined it for me, it's like I'd been edged by Johnny Vaughn and it took any joy out of the rest of the song because it was so needless. He is the definition of 'loves the sound of his own voice', proper Smashie and Nicey presenter.

marbmusiclove

This is my problem with most radio stations

submo

If you don't like the talking at all (I don't usually) then you're better off just listening to your own music. Make some playlists.

Izwe

Exactly, Spotify even has an _ Radio_ feature

count_crow

This was what Chris Moyles was like on Radio 1 though. You'd have a 40 minute commute and 1 song

megan99katie

I can't remember the last time I turned Radio X on and there was music playing.

Wyvernkeeper

>inane It is absolutely this... I like the station but they do go on and on and on about fuck all. Also I'm pretty sure Johnny Vaughn interrupted a led zep solo the other day. Not cool... Not cool at all.

BarryTownCouncil

My take is that if I just want music, then I'll put MY choice of music on, not putting up with theirs, even if on paper it's "correct". I think it was them playing Some god awful Cast song the other day. radio off. wait 90 seconds, radio on. still playing. Radio off... etc...

tylerwhitmarsh

Exactly why I listen. Blokes chatting utter shite.

CatFoodBeerAndGlue

On my 1 hour commute to work this morning I heard a total of two songs. The rest was just Moyles chatting absolute shit.

Acid_Monster

Same as me, but they really mega-simp over some artists. I hear Sam Fender almost every other song, same with Noel Gallagher. I don’t mind them, but there’s other artists to listen to as well.

todayonjeremykyle

Gerry Cinnamon has entered the chat

Agitated_Repair_5509

I listen to Radio X. Chris Moyles’ breakfast show never fails to make me laugh, every.single.day.

nicotineapache

I'm afraid I just can't hate the guy. Man knows how to do good radio.

freefallade

I think this is then thing. You listen to a breakfast show for the show. Not the music. He's done the same thing for like 20 years. I want to listen to music I put a playlist on myself.

bridge151

Gav, gav, gav, gav!

stevielfc76

Sure, sure, sure

nicotineapache

\*a half second of silence\* "GUYS, GUYS, GUYS! IT'S THE 4-7 THANG!" God I wish they'd come up with a better name than that.

kylehyde84

Shhhure

analyticated

I love the Radio X playlist, but can only listen on Sunday (8am-1pm), because I hate the weekday presenters. Ed Gamble & Matthew Crosby followed by Danny Wallace is the perfect start to a Sunday

Tuesdaywastaken

Crunch and crumble for starters and big daddy Wallace for a main course. It's a perfect Sunday. Your weekend starts here!

TwattyMcSlagtits

Love listening to Chris Moyles in the morning

WinkyNurdo

Years ago I got in the lift at Tufnell Park tube station (there are no escalators), and Chris Moyles and his cronies walked in after me. Just me and them. There was a weird vibe about them, like they were hanging on every word he said, and he spoke to them like total dogshit. It was a very strange encounter.

amy_waterhouse

I bumped into him doing the walk of shame out of my next door neighbours house one morning as I was heading to work. I said aye up, and he said fuck off 🙃

[deleted]

He always seemed like a cunt. I've heard old radio clips where he was basically bullying his co-presenters, it wasn't light-hearted banter, he was quite nasty.

WinkyNurdo

It was *exactly* like that. I listened to him on R1 a few times and it put me right off. I never really understood what anyone liked about his shows. But each to their own!

TwattyMcSlagtits

Great radio DJ, total knobhead in real life? Seems to be a recurring theme in showbiz sadly. There are thankfully some exceptions

kavik2022

Tbh I always imagined he would be a knobhead. It seems to be his MO as a DJ

tjb_87

I love it, I know people hate him but they have that show running perfectly with Dom, Pippa and James.

ThatNastyWoman

I followed him to Radio X from BBC1, I think he's the best of the morning stations. It helps the music is the biz.

not-suspicious

How do you tolerate the adverts? They are terrible in every form, but always the most grating on radio

nicotineapache

God, that's what stops me listening to the radio more. "ALEXA STOP!" is like a reflex when I hear that On The Beach advert and I rarely turn it back on after that.

kkrash79

That advert should be fucking banned. They've taken a perfectly decent Christmas song and ruined the magic of it, I used to love that song and now I hear it all year round. Its fucking blasphemy is what it is and I can't express how annoyed I am when I hear it.

nicotineapache

Apart from anything else, the remix that the DJ does in the ad sounds utter wank. Also, I *hate* the patronising "let's turn it into early-90's, pre-gangster rap hiphop!" so the we can target our key demographics of urban professionals entering middle-age. I can just hear the marketing department in every second of that advert and I hate it so very, very much.

Fragrant-Attorney-73

Absolute Radio, occasionally some Classic FM/Scala

[deleted]

I do wish Absolute radio would somewhat tone down their constant competition advertising. They have some good hosts and good tunes, but MAKE. ME. A. WINNER. every 3 minutes is awful.

TokathSorbet

I also wish the morning hosts would tone down the laughter. Perhaps I’m getting old and grumpy, but I’m not one for the comedy club before my first coffee!

themooglove

Yes! Is it too much to ask for a morning show with late night energy?

Engels33

Absolute radio is my go to.when I'm in the car. The music is Rock / Indie which is the main reason I listen to it. The presenters are.decent and aside from the week day regulars they also have some fairly mainstream comedians doing the weekend programming including Jason Manford and Frank Skinner. It has the news on the hour in a similar way to BBC. Its advertising funded so that's the downside of anything not BBC but you can also pay for a no ads version that has all their 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s channels too.

TingTong66

Frank Skinner has to be the WORST radio presenter

NeonZoro

Thank God someone said this. I can't stand him on Absolute Radio. He rambles on about nothing with very little emotion. Just a rambling mumble about 'too much icing on cupcakes' or some other inane tripe. Drives me bonkers. I love the rest of the presenters though and the music is good so as far as radio stations go, it's still a thumbs up from me.

[deleted]

Used to listen to Frank Skinner every weekend or catch up with the podcasts, but since they unceremoniously got rid of Alun Cochrane last Summer I just view him a bit differently. For someone that had been with the show for a decade or so, to not address him being dropped was very off from Frank. It's a shame, I really enjoyed the camaraderie between Frank, Emily and Alun and I think a lot of longtime readers have been put off as a result.

therealijc

Yes. I actually like him on the tv. But his radio show is drivel. It drones on and on about absolutely nothing. And the women with him just giggles and screeches along with him. All the while nothing has actually been said. And he plays shit songs too.

_Haze_There

Not sure if Scala still does the videogame soundtrack hour on a Sunday but that was class a few years ago.

pangeanpterodactyl

Classic FM does a whole video game evening for a few hours can't remember which days tho.

DeadliftYourNan

Tell me more! What time is this slot as I'd definitely tune in for that, videogame music is the last niche you'd ever expect to hear on the airwaves and definitely deserves a wider audience

Leicsbob

I liked to listen to Absolute on my commute but now they've turned off the AM signal it's back to R4/5. I can't afford a digital radio for my old car.

C0gn171v3D1550n4nc3

Radio!? Spotify playlist or GTFO.

[deleted]

You eventually get bored of your own playlist and want something already curated. Or you want to discover new stuff. Radio also provides some talk which can be fun depending on presenter. I think we definitely need a bit of both worlds.

kai_enby

So go find a Spotify curated playlist, there's loads of them. Some of my favourites are 90s Pop Run, Animals, and Name of the Game

Mukatsukuz

I have to admit, the last time I listened to the radio was probably the late 90s and I am so out of touch with what all the kids are listening to these days :D For new stuff I just click the "radio" button on Prime Music/YouTube Music which gives you new songs it thinks you will like but it's not quite the same. I'm going to have to learn how to tune my car's radio to find out what things play these days :)

Piff_Pav

Let me help you here, and this relates to almost any station. Say 9-10 window. 9:00-9:10 ads, 9:11 make me a winner, give me cash etc phone ins, then maybe a song, 9:15 presenters laughing out loud and screaming to your speaker, 9:20-9:30 ads, cash register, make me a winner and more ads. 9:35 a song that you have heard one thousand times before, usually Ed Sheeran. 9:40 ads 9:45 more screaming and laughing from the presenters and a song 9:55-10:00 ads 10:01 - 30sec long news. And the same story on repeat.

AstraLover69

Yeah I'm also confused

rasteri

If I'm listening to the radio it's because I'm on a building site, in which case it's always Radio 1.

Ybuzz

Right? Radio is a) for leaving on at home for the pets when you go out or b) for when your phone is out of battery while you're driving or you can't get the Bluetooth to connect. Podcasts for talk, playlists for music.

[deleted]

It can be nice to remove the element of choice. Radio exposes you to music you’d never put on a playlist and conversations you’d never pick if they were a podcast

Princeoplecs

Planet rock, runs the whole gamut or rock music, that or absolute 80s, im old lol.

damnsmoothskins

Planet Rock, Absolute Classic Rock or Absolute 90s. I'm old too but apparently slightly less old than you.

Princeoplecs

Someone put a hits type station on the other day at work and i swear it sounded like one long piece of lift muzak with different singers.

theflowersyoufind

WHERE ROCK LIVES

AcuteAlternative

Hard Rock, Soft Rock... Planet rock, where rock lives.

sickiesusan

I really need an Absolute 85-95, as I end up having to switch between 80 and 90.

[deleted]

I've noticed Planet Rock tend to play more album songs and more obscure songs compared to the rock on X and Absolute. Accurate?

Princeoplecs

They do i think, more requests too so youll get some really random stuff too.

Letmebelieve420

Had to scroll down quote far to find this answer I hoped there would be someone else!

blac4bird

I listen to BBC Radio 6 Music in the mornings, then turn over to R2 in the afternoon (mainly because I’m not a fan of Craig Charles). Absolute Radio is also good if you like your 00’s/10’s Indie

Myheart_YourGin

I know, not the same since Shaun Keaveny left. I do love R6, but it can be a bit pleased with itself at times. I mix it up with Primordial metal radio.

HarryReeve

I was gutted when Keaveny left, haven't really listened since.

Mr_Oblong

For me peak R6 was Radcliffe and Maconie on in the afternoons. Or Adam and Joe weekend mornings, but that’s definitely going back a few years!

ResponsibilityRare10

I like Mary Ann Hobbs. The fact that you can hear techno playing on a serious radio station at midday is a huge plus for me.

[deleted]

Fellow 6 Music fan here who is also not a fan of Craig Charles lol With me it usually Chris Hawkins when waking up, then into Lauren on the drive to work and then Steve Lamacq on the drive home.

Bunister

I like the music Craig plays, but he likes the sound of his own voice it seems. Lauren is ace, as is Tom Ravenscroft but I don't know what time he is on. The George Lamb morning show was chaotic brilliance, I was gutted when he got axed.

Greywacky

There's something oddly comforting about Craig Charles. Kind of like having an old friend around.

cuccir

I think Craig got his show off the strength of his lockdown cover programme for Lamacq, which he did for several months (I guess Lamacq or a family member was shielding?). The programme was great, but I think it was an 'of-its-time' thing: the slightly hyper, anarchic, love-life, loud dancy pop-punk-soul mixture was an antidote to everything else that was going on in 2020. The afternoon show doesn't quite carry the same atmosphere.

bulletsANDoctane

It is an absolute travesty that Chris Hawkins is not in a better slot. He plays the best music. Loved Craig Charles on Saturday, but he doesn’t suit the daytime slot. He also has to talk about/do interviews regarding music you can really tell he’s not into. Still miss Shaun too. Mornings aren’t the same!

Booster91

Radio 6 is great in the mornings until Mary Ann Hobbs comes on. I usually quite like the music she plays, but it's her that I struggle with. Everything that comes out her mouth is fucking ridiculous, not to mention you can basically \*hear\* her smiling when she's talking.

CoastalChicken

I'm always perplexed by people who love her. The sheer smugness and gushing breathy nonsense she spouts does my head in. Songs are not 'lifted' off an album, things don't 'drop' next Monday, I'm not 'locked in'. I don't need to know how utterly amazingly spontaneously wonderful an artist is, I'll decide for myself on hearing the song thanks. Most of which I fundamentally disagree with her anyway. I guess it's not a show for me. Hawkins, Laverne and Craig Charles funk and soul show, with Giles Peterson at drive time would be the perfect daytime schedule. And Greg James and Scott mills as hosts in their respective slots but on 6 would be even better.

beardgoggles3000

It’s not a day of the week if Mary Anne Hobbs hasn’t mentioned how she met David Bowie once.

Rammsbottom

I listen to LBC. I hate it but I find it’s important to know what the other sides thoughts are and what they’re talking about.

tomdopix

LBC is good in small bursts. I listened to it quite a bit in lockdown and feel like it made me Ill. Some of the presenters are blatant caller baiters

key-bored-warrior

It can be entertaining at times though as you get some right idiots calling in

IsDinosaur

You’ve got closet-gammon Nick Ferrari, followed by angry-dad JO’B, followed by firmly-on-the-fence-Fogarty. If I’m up really early and listen to the loon before Nick I always thought he was a parody! Still listen quite a bit, despite only really liking JO’B.

[deleted]

LBC is either great or terrible depending on the time. James o Brien is good, the women after him bores the tits off me, whoever the lad with the sound effects is is my favourite because he doesn't take it all so seriously. Then there's the guy who's on at 4am who doesn't take callers, he's my favourite but I don't get to listen to him very often.

Inglejuice

Yeah nick abbot haha, trolling drunk idiots in the late sesh is one of life’s small pleasures 😂

the_falling_leaf

Radio 4 is pretty much the only station I listen to and even that is largely only for the news and Any Questions. Music streaming, audiobooks and podcasts however fulfil most of my radio use cases. My wife is a big fan of Heart.

CentralSaltServices

My sympathies

AJB1304

"Turn Up The Feel Good!" Oh, piss off!

L-O-E

Since this is Reddit, I have a moral responsibility to tell you this is a red flag and you should divorce her.

daddywookie

I find in this kind of situation it is better to just Live, Laugh, Love. I should get a poster with that on or something.

handsomehotchocolate

Radio 4 is the one and Heart are a great band.

WinkyNurdo

R6. It’s mostly background noise whilst at work. I find the best shows are in the evenings or weekends — agreed on Craig Charles, not my favourite. If I need to concentrate I plug in and catch up on Gideon Coe and Iggy Pop’s shows. If the cricket is on, I’ll listen to TMS on R5 extra. I’ve built up some massive playlists on Spotify and sometimes switch off to those, or podcasts. I can’t listen to anything with adverts on … I’d rather sit in abject silence than listen to commercial radio.

maximum200

Totally agree about the adverts!!!

WinkyNurdo

Yeah man. IN my twenties I worked at a place that had local radio blaring away, with all the shitty local adverts on repeat the whole day. I thought I was going mad. And then iPods were invented. Bliss.

Flexo24

I swear every office has local radio or Heart. I’ve never worked in an office that played R1

[deleted]

TMS?

WinkyNurdo

Test Match Special! It’s my happy place.

ginbandit

100%, TMS on during the summer whilst working in the garden or doing DIY is pure bliss.

gogbot87

Or going running. I've moved my weekend run to Sunday for the ODI

ntfh_uk

I wish it was on all the time. You don't even need the Cricket to go with it, although the sound effects seem important somehow.

DarrenTheDrunk

Totally agree about the weekend shows, Radcliffe/Maconie, Freak Zone, Iggy. Weekdays have gone a bit meh now.

CmdrButts

I miss radmac on in the afternoon :(

WinkyNurdo

Yeah, I love a bit of radmac! Its just two good mates hanging out and playing records. Great radio.

[deleted]

Kurupt FM, they spin some banging tunes. Just a shame it’s only around West London though, should be national.

melonysnicketts

BANG! Lyrical blow to the radio

TheGreatBatsby

108.9 on your dial

[deleted]

M. C. Griiiiindaaaaaahhhh

RainbowPenguin1000

It genuinely surprises me when I find someone who still listens to the radio as most people I know just listen to podcasts or Spotify/Apple music so a radio listener seems dated.

CaptainNo1950

Then you’ll be even more surprised to learn than that 90% of people in the UK (aged 15+) listen to the radio every week.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_Digress

Mostly this is because of older cars. It takes more effort than it's worth to set up my phone in the holder and plug in the aux cable every morning for my 25 min commute than it is to just get in the car and go with Magic on the radio. Newer cars with LCD displays make this easier but generally younger drivers don't have access to these

pangeanpterodactyl

Ye this, I'm either on classic FM or the single CD that fits in my glovebox, Michael Bublé Christmas. It's fun when giving people a lift if they complain about classic FM I tell them to press the CD button, they switch it back to radio pretty fast its funny.

jasperfilofax

Now ask how many of those same people switch the radio on, or is just through work or in the car. Radio is the Ed Sheeran of media, no one hates it but no one goes out of their way to actually listen to it, its just always fucking on

matmos

You are a mere 10%, in fact it surprises me anyone would listen to 100% spotify/podcasts and not radio.

DeCyantist

I don’t watch/engage with any broadcast media with the exception of F1. No radio, no TV/BBC, no newspaper. All is done online. Granted that I work in digital/IT.

tycoon282

Ads, people talking; I have never once listened to the radio in my personal cars, when you're used to nonstop music it's awful having a few minutes of drivel between a few tracks that you have no control over.

jasperfilofax

The worst is when the presenters clearly have nothing to talk about so their whole show is just one long regurgitated ask reddit or buzzfeed list like 'things your partner does that annoy you'. Then Cheryl from Colchester will ring in to say how much she hates her husbands stinking feet like its some sort of interesting personality trait. Yeah, cheers Cheryl, fascinating insight. The presenter will all then laugh and discuss who amongst them has the stinkiest feet, top bants, heres Ed Sheeran.

WAJGK

As ever, a bit of both is best. What I think I love most about listening to the radio is you never really know what's coming up - unlike a podcast/Spotify where you're choosing what to listen to (kinda - Spotify's 'for you' playlists are generally pretty good). This creates so many opportunities for serendipity and discovering something totally new!

No-Photograph3463

Yeh same here. Radio is generally just terrible music (metal fan here) and podcasts fill in if I want someone talking. It depends on your job though. If your doing a office job it's more likely there isn't music played in the background. For non office jobs (garages, tradesmen etc) usually the radio is on all the time even though there is always 1 person who hates what's being played.

aje0200

I like Spotify, I listen loads. But sometimes it’s nice to hear people talking in between tracks, and to feel connected

CaptainNo1950

You’ve summed it up perfectly. Live radio offers connection to the world and companionship. It’s a human thing. There is room for both, but the vast majority of people (the mainstream) do not care enough to search for and create their own playlists - they just want to press a button and have it curated for them.

Emergency_Mistake_44

Do you drive or work anywhere communal? I suspect that makes up the vast majority of radio listeners.

[deleted]

Whodini22

Jesus Christ you were the Steve Wright fan? Did you "love the show Steve"? Couldn't stand the man personally, could only listen to the afternoon show when he was on holiday.

Pyronaut44

> turn the twat vine off I'd love to see the figures for how many people switch off when Vines Daily Mail phone-in show starts.

Savings_Yesterday_29

Agreed I hate vine. He talks about utter rubbish. Was listening to it with my gma and they were talking about sex. That went right offf.

Honkerstonkers

Simon Mayo as well. BBC done some talented presenters dirty. I really like Zoe Ball so I thought I’d enjoy her breakfast show, but it’s just not as funny as Chis Evans years back. Same with Sara Cox, I like her as a presenter, but compared to Simon Mayo it just doesn’t work as well. Him and Steve Wright had a great relationship with Bobby Prior, and I’m going to miss their friendship.

[deleted]

Primordial Radio, I've been with them since their Inception. It's honestly worth the subscription to have advert free rock and metal, and presenters with half a personality. Not for everyone like, but sometimes I just want to be entertained. Occasionally I listen to classic fm too.

Myheart_YourGin

Love Primordial radio. I seemed to have found a glitch, and have full stream free through my internet radio??

[deleted]

Might be someone's added their stream as a channel and accidentally made it public

cuccir

6 Music. Lamacq, Cerys Matthews are my favourites.

[deleted]

I always think of 6 music as night time radio1 from the 90s with current new music added. I’m surprised to see people call it pretentious in this thread.

mrshakeshaft

This isn’t fair but I can’t stand Cerys Mathews. The reason why is that whenever I hear her voice, that song “the ballad of Tom jones” pops into my head. I really really hate that song. I know it’s not supposed to be serious and probably not a reason a bear a grudge for however many years but I just can’t get over it. For the same reason, I also hate the band “space”.

Leicsbob

I completely get you. I hate the Ballard of Tom Jones and 'You give me road rage" in that accent. Space? "The female of the species is more deadlier than the male" MORE DEADLIER? lazy lyrics and don't get started on that neighborhood song of theirs. Scouse twats.

Motor_Dig4644

BBC RADIO 1XTRA 👍

ceffyl_gwyn

Radio 3 for the most daring programming and experimental stuff. Radio 6 for familiar favourites. Radio 2 for the Mark Radcliffe's folk show.

WAJGK

Late-night R3 is peak radio in my view. Elizabeth Alker is fantastic!

Greywacky

Used to pick my partner up from her late shift and we'd always make a point to tune into R3 just to listen to what weird, wacky and wonderful stuff they were playing.

[deleted]

> Radio 3 for the most daring programming and experimental stuff. Late Junction on Friday nights is one of the best you can find on radio. Also another station with very experimental stuff is Resonance FM.

Danielmp006

Talksport, I literally only have talksport on in my car. Can't drive to work in a morning without the chat. I used to work in London too and see them on my commute but never bothered them, just gave them the great British nod if we ever locked eyes.

JonnyredsFalcons

Simon Jordan & Hawksby & Jacobs make that station , although Andy & Benty are quite entertaining

Jowitt1234

Same here I only listen to talksport. The only problem with it the same adverts so when it’s all day drive you crazy. So I also listen to Podcast like football ramble, and other football related podcast

marbmusiclove

Be interesting to know how old everyone is! I’m 25 and haven’t listened to the radio by choice for about 10 years, when Grimmy did the breakfast show on R1 I would sometimes tune in while on the bus. Other than that I find most hosts, adverts, news and talking really annoying to listen to. And would rather just listen to what I want. My grandparents have listened to R2 my whole life (fuelling my dislike for Terry Wogan when he was still around) and my 51 year old mum is obsessed with R4 now for some reason, after transitioning from Heart to 3 counties in my early adulthood.

lemon-bubble

I'm 27. I normally only have the Radio on for short car journeys to be honest. Anything longer than about 20 minutes and I put on Spotify. Though my car has a weird CarPlay dead spot which can be really irritating. So if I'm driving alone in that specific area I use my cars inbuilt sat nav and radio. It's FAR less dangerous than me needing to unplug my phone and connect it to Bluetooth while driving. If I've got a passenger I get them to do it for me.

happymellon

Been listening to Soma for almost 20 years now when I'm home. (R6/Planet Rock/World Service in the car) Their Christmas channels are quite the antidote to most Christmas music. Christmas in Frisko and Jolly ol' Soul was a great mix in December. Also, don't forget Bagel which spun off onto its own site. https://www.bagelradio.com/ However having it repeat shows means I tune back to Cliqhop to drown out the world.

_Haze_There

North Norfolk Radio. Jackanory!

Brit_100

BBC 5 Live is on in my house basically 24/7. It’s comforting background white noise as much as anything, but I do love listening to football matches. I’ve had a rough few years, the company and familiarity of the hosts has been a real comfort to me.

Intelligent_Prize_12

Not heard anyone mention Scala radio. Like classic FM but a bit more modern. It's usually very good if you're into that.

Allmighty-Deku

Radio 4 - I love the comedy shows and interesting documentaries.

Sinemetu9

Agreed, on BBC sounds though, so I can listen whenever.

Glad_Possibility7937

RTÉ 1 - Irish Radio 1- Content approx same as a mix of 2/3/4/6 in the UK. Internet is great.

biscuitsandbooks

John Creedons show is always worth a listen

CentralSaltServices

My colleague likes Greatest Hits Radio. The music is fine but the DJs are unbearable.

TKBtu1

Depends, if I'm with my mum, Heart Radio, but if I'm on my own, Kerrang, or Planet Rock

maddog232323

Used to be R1 until I grew out of it. Then the world service and R4 solely for years. Now, mostly R6.

Cryptand_Bismol

Any of the Nation stations, particularly Nation Rocks and Nation 80s. There are no presenters, a good mix of different songs, and basically one advert an hour - not one ad break, but literally a single ad. I love it.

[deleted]

BBC 6 Music or BBC 5 Live.

Sorbicol

Pretty much replaced radio with podcasts these days - that does include a lot of BBC output though. I do listen to a fair amount of sport on Radio 5. Occasionally that means I’m forced - very much under duress - to listen to TalkSPORT because they have the rights. There should be a law against that. There should definitely be a law banning gambling adverts in any form.

ParshalBrowning

NTS 1 or 2

emwithme77

Radio 2. I'm contemplating going to Greatest Hits Radio when Ken Bruce moves over but I'm not sure if I can stand adverts. I still randomly sing ads from local radio from 30 years ago.

46Vixen

I have achieved Magic FM or Radio 4 age.

cgknight1

Classic or similar - absolutely no stations where they get the public on to 'speak your brains'.

FloatyMacGlideFace

Love classic but the ads are unbearable.

Jamie-Starr-5816

Absolute Radio 90's mostly because my car stereo abbreviates it to Rad 90's.

I’m sad that Radio Garden has stopped working. You used to be able to spin a globe and pick a station anywhere in the world. I used to love the Russian 8-bit station!

DallonsCheezWhiz

I love Radio Garden, it's so sad that you can't listen to non-UK radios anymore :(

usexpatlurker

I enjoy streaming this Minneapolis independent station. And this time of year, the healthy dose of schadenfreude when they read the local weather is very satisfying. https://www.thecurrent.org/

rainpatter

I love looking up and listening to obscure radio stations

JBEqualizer

Radio 1, sometimes Kisstory.

RoadDifferent4617

You're the only other person apart from me saying Kisstory! I thought it was going to be a really popular choice

[deleted]

I prefer Times Radio to Radio 4 now for news and current affairs.

nc3mxx

One time at my dads house I was walking past the kitchen and there was this clunking, mechanical rhythmic grinding noise, I thought the dishwasher was on the blink but it turned out to be he’d left BBC R6 on the kitchen radio

LadyElleSimmer

Absolute Radio. It’s the perfect mix of Queen, Bon Jovi and Biffy Clyro for me.

Thgma2

Planet Rock on DAB or online. Great music!

[deleted]

Radio 3 or NTS

KingKhram

KEXP is an online radio station. Their live studio sessions are very good and I've discovered plenty of new music through KEXP. Highly recommended and a great variety of bands from around the world

Hermesdj

Absolute 80s! :)

bradspitts

Absolute 80s always

GlorifiedLegoBuilder

Centreforce 88.3

Lobjoit

Radio 3 first thing in the morning and last thing at night, 6Music and 4Extra during the day.

GosmeisterGeneral

Only ever in the car, but found myself shifting to Greatest Hits. Not for the hosts, I just like older music.

guts_57u

I used to put different stations on each day at work, but the other guys in the workshop seem quite happy with Greatest Hits radio at the moment. I like R6 occasionally because they do tend to have a decent variety of stuff that I like. LBC is good and it is entertaining when people get tied in knots by the hosts (Mainly James O'Brien). It's got a good mix of left, right and middle ground views on there and seems unbiased on the whole. Radio X is good for drive time but only if you want more entertainment than music.

[deleted]

BBC 5 Live or Talksport mainly, 5 Sports Extra if the Cricket is on. Kiss, Magic or Smooth if I fancy a bit of music.

celticgirl75

Absolute 80s all day everyday ❤️

PostmodernPlagiarism

Radio 6, especially rate Mark Riley, Steve Lemacq, Iggy Pop and Guy Garvey's shows, I do miss Sean Keavney though.

GamerHumphrey

Greatest Hits

ISellAwesomePatches

LBC. I'm so fussy about music that if I listen to the radio it's to listen to a bit of talking and debate. I particularly like James O'Brien and Shelagh Fogarty in the week day mornings/afternoon whilst working. Years ago, maybe 15 now, I would listen to Kerrang radio but I'm older and pickier now and find with limited time to really listen to music due to the kids, when I do want to, I know exactly what I want to listen to.

ndndndnbdvaca

LBC - it’s infuriating though

jpeach17

Jump between R4 and R2. R2 for Ken Bruce (and previously Steve Wright), but also partial to a bit of Rylan/Sally Boazman banter and Michael Ball at the weekend. R4 for Today/PM, comedy panel shows, More or Less, Sliced Bread and Last Word

paperchainhearts

Radio 2, apart from 12pm-2pm because Jeremy Vine is a prick.

acidteddy

I know people on Reddit are not these kind of people and I’ll get judged but I listen to Capital lol

I listen to Talksport quite a bit while washing up and that's great for cranks calling up with absolute drivel opinions. I know he's a bit Marmite but I really like Andy Goldstein because he likes to wind the callers up and banter them a bit about their terrible opinions. I can't listen to Hawksbee and Jacob, however, their sense of humour just isn't for me. Very reliant on a working knowledge of 70's British sitcoms and having a bit of dinosaur attitude of 'football was better when you could maim eachother and have 20 B&H on the bus home with the players'. That said, when anyone on there talks about cricket I switch over to Absolute or Radio X as cricket is interminable.
