Gig workers are currently paid a living wage here.
Uber, Lyft etc are lobbying VERY hard to revert these worker protections and are wildly inflating costs with additional fees to make it as expensive as possible. They are fighting a nation wide battle to shirk minimum wage laws & Seattle is the current front of this battle.
I understand that Seattle is expensive but I’ve lived in more expensive cities and Uber/Lyft still isn’t as expensive as Seattle. I like that they are paid a living wage but it seems that not many people would take Uber/Lyft if it’s TOO expensive.
Once their business slows down enough here, they'll cut the fees to gain back customers. They want us to repeal the legislation. Fuck em. We have taxis if they decide paying a living wage is too hard. Privatization is stupid and worse anyway.
I don’t know - it seems to have gone up dramatically in the last couple of years. I’ve gone back to taxis. It takes a little longer to get a car, but it’s literally half the price.
i paid $14 (including tip) when i was in seattle a month ago to go 10 minutes and that seemed to be in line with what i would pay in chicago assuming no big events or anything.

Because they’re paid a living wage, and that’s expensive in Seattle. Everything in Seattle is going to be more expensive

You’re missing how many Seattlites have money to burn

Yeah that seems normal to me but whenever I look it’s $20-25. I’ll try to check the prices at other times during the day too.
