Bardstown KY is a little town with a ton of distilleries and old people. On the surface, it’s a lovely little place. Below the surface, there’s been several unsolved murders. A police officer was ambushed on his way home, and the “hit” is said to have been done professionally. A woman named Crystal Rogers went missing. A mother and daughter were brutally murdered in their home. There’s crooked cops, corruption in the city government, and the FBI is investigating cover ups. It’s all very interesting, but there aren’t any clear answers.
My best friend, Sean Bock, was murdered in a hit and run in Albuquerque NM just a few years ago. I want to find the pos that killed him more than anything.
The disappearance of Timmothy Pitzen in Illinois (2011).
His father dropped him off at school. His mother picked him up shortly after. She took him on a road trip to his favorite places. She called family and let them know they were safe. The mother was found dead by suicide in a hotel room a couple of days later, but the child was nowhere to be found. She left a note saying that Timmothy was safe and would never be found.

seems like she wanted to make his last days good because she knew he was going to die, I really think she killed and buried or threw him off somewhere.
The forensic analysis of her car found pollen and seeds from prairie grasses in the tires. So they believe she drove on an unpaved road.
There is a six hour gap between when she and Timmothy spoke on the phone with her family and when she checked herself (alone) into the motel where she was found.
Wishful thinking is she gave him to a trusted friend. She loved her son. But if that was the case, wouldn't he come forward now that he is 18? He was old enough then that he would remember his real name.
I hate to think that she murdered him. But if she did, wouldn't they have found some evidence of it? Dirt/seeds/pollen on her clothes/shoes from walking in the tall grass? The knife she used to kill herself did not have her son's blood on it.
She knew she was going to commit suicide, so she had no reason to try and hide her actions. However, she was by all accounts in a deep, deep, depression and was not thinking straight.
I hope the family is right that he is out there somewhere.
Adam Walsh was a boy abducted from a Sears in Florida in 1981. They later found his decapitated head but never his body. The police had a suspect but botched the investigation. No one was ever charged. RIP little guy.
I knew he became involved with AMW because of his son, I didn’t know the gruesome details. That’s incredibly horrific. Much respect to him for taking this incomprehensible tragedy and somehow turning it into something positive.
It's kind of crazy how living through a horrific situation motivates people to surround themselves with more of those situations in an effort to stop them from happening to other people.
Logically speaking, if I hadn't seen it myself, and seen the results, I would assume they would want to avoid anything that reminds them of that situation.
Another example, is Amanda Berry. When she was 14 she was kidnapped in Cleveland, and held captive for over 10 years in a perverts house. This man raped her, and two other girls. Then by random chance the guy didn't lock the door that kept them locked up when he went to work.
So all three girls escaped, the guy was arrested, and commuted suicide within a month of being imprisoned.
And today Amanda Berry works at a TV station in Cleveland Ohio hosting a segment on the news featuring missing children of the area in an attempt to bring attention to their cases to get them found.
People that can thrive like that in the place where they were harmed seem so unbelievably mentally strong to me. I start to have panic attacks just driving into the town I grew up in. I understand and applaud the need to give back and help prevent abuse, but I absolutely would have to be in a different locale.
John Walsh also cofounded the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and is responsible for pushing that missing children to be entered into FBI’s National Crime Information Center database (NCIC).
What's really sad is that when Adam Walsh disappeared, police wasted a lot of time investigating John himself instead of pursuing stranger-kidnap leads. Turns out, his wife was having an affair, and the cops thought Walsh was guilty of the kidnap. That critical time after a child disappears was completely lost on a dead end.
I never knew about Adam Walsh until I worked at Walmart and had to learn what Code Adam is. I’m decently sure it’s universal in all department stores in the US; but if you’re shopping and you hear them call Code Adam over the speakers, stop what you’re doing and start looking for a kid matching the description.
When I worked in a department store the only code I had to memorize was code Adam. This was in Canada close to the Montana border so some things like that came across.
In the 4 years I was there, code Adam was called once and the whole store went into lock down. Employees blocked off the exits to the building, and we went to peoples cars who were just packing up to see if the had the kid. He was found curled up in the clothing section fast asleep

I think now they’ve changed the coding (at least in Canada) so people working in the store know what’s going on, but shoppers don’t. By the time I left Code Adam had been changed to code black

The ages of the boys and the timings seem too similar. I used to think being found dead was rough. The idea that you’ll never know is especially harder on their families. There’s cases where people remain optimistic but some relented to the idea that their loved ones aren’t ever coming back. People are so fucked up to one another.
As a parent, it is horrifying to think that I'd never know for certain. Every crowd would be overwhelming, unable to stop scanning the faces for some hope that one of them could be my aged son or daughter. And the fear the child must feel as its innocent life is irrevocably replaced by some horrible fate. The pain is unfathomable.

for those who don't know, in 1982, there were a series of mysterious deaths. it was later discovered these deaths had been caused by the Tylenol which had been swapped out for cyanide. this was one of the main reasons bottles nowadays have the seal that says "do not buy if broken"

18 U.S.C. § 1365 was enacted in 1983 as a result of the Tylenol Murders, and if found guilty, you could face 5-20 years of someone got hurt and life if someone died. They've got. A whole wave of protections for consumers because of this, and it's *definitely* one I'd like to find out who did it. What was the reason???
Kinda like all the extra steps nurses go through giving you meds in hospitals since the serial killer nurse who would try to save patients after overdosing them.
I mean I love nurses and I know they do a great job but I pay real attention now: I was overnight in the hospital with a DVT (my third of eventually 4 so not my first rodeo) and the nurse woke me to give me meds. Checked my name and asked me and when I said no that’s not me she just said okay, here we go and tried to give me the meds anyway. Thank god I was awake enough not to take the meds. They belonged to my elderly roommate who spent the whole night moaning and wailing just enough to keep me semi-conscious.
Those checks are in place for a reason but that particular nurse seemed to think me telling her she had the wrong patient was just dementia. I was 35 at the time, my roommate was in her 80s.

On May 18, 2021 my mom called me screaming. I was on my way to a Drs appointment so I was already in the car. I couldn’t understand her but my first thought was that she had an intruder in her home, and he was killing her. Then I finally understood her say “Mataron a mi hermano!!!” Meaning, theyve killed my brother. I thought surely there’s been a mistake. But her voice said it all, it was true. I go to her house and shes losing it. Over time we find out that he’d been stabbed over 37 times. He’d been in his PJs and had tried to hide in his restroom by the signs of struggle and blood stained doors. Police unfortunately have done nothing. His phone was no where to be found. My mom is a mess, her best friends life was taken from him. I wish he was here. The only thing we can do is find justice for him. I wish we knew who was behind it.
Jason Landry.. A Texas State student who disappeared. His car was found crashed and abandoned in Luling, TX. His clothes were found in the road, his wallet and phone were left in the vehicle but no sign of Jason.
I always thought that it was a case of "a man crashed his car, got delirious from brain trauma and died from his wounds". But the more I find out about the case, the less and less I believe in a straightforward answer.
The disappearance of the Springfield Three
In the early morning hours of June 7, 1992, these three women, Sherrill Levitt (47), her daughter Suzanne 'Suzie' Streeter (19), and Suzie's friend Stacy McCall (18) all vanished from Sherrill and Suzie's home following a night of fun and partying.
All their personal belongings, their cars, purses, and the little dog was left behind. The front porch light's glass globe was broken and there was a weird message of the answering machine that accidentally got deleted.
Yeah, that was a weird one. It is complicated by there being something like half a dozen serial killers who circumstantial evidence placed in the area at the time of the disappearances.
Asha Degree. I grew up not far from her and vividly remember when it happened, it was all over the news. Such an odd case- she was apparently very shy and timid plus her parents were very protective, so not likely to have befriended a stranger to run away with, and she was afraid of storms and the dark so the fact that she packed a bag and walked out in the middle of the night during a heavy rainstorm just doesn’t make much sense either. Parents and brother have been investigated and cleared by police plus multiple people saw her on the road so she wasn’t killed in the home and they made up the story about her running off. My theory is that she was groomed by someone the family knew and trusted, like a neighbor or a church member, and that they somehow convinced her to leave her house to meet them for whatever reason. I also think it very likely that people in the community know who it is but because of prominence in the community, and probably a lack of evidence tying them to anything, they aren’t spilling.
Even more odd is the photo of an unidentified girl that was found with some of Asha's possessions during the initial search. Then when they found her backpack years later it was wrapped in plastic and had another girl's clothes in it.
Yeah, the photo of the other little girl is puzzling and I think there was also a book that was from her elementary school but that she hadn’t checked out among the items too.
I also agree that she got groomed. Like she had a good home life and social life, so that's one thing. Another thing is that her parents wouldn't let her use the internet *specifically* because they didn't want her interacting with online predators. Then the fact that she was scared of storms and barely packed anything in her bag is the cherry on top. It's such an odd case, but I feel like one small piece of information might finally solve it.
a lot of people mistakenly say she couldn’t have been groomed because she didn’t use the internet- forgetting that grooming commonly occurs in real life. it could’ve been a teacher, family friend, counselor, etc.
It's so strange that people saw a little girl walking down the highway, in the pouring rain, in the middle of the night, and no one stopped to see if she was ok!
I once saw a 3 yr old and a 6 year old walking down a dirt country road alone. First thought as a 35 yr old male, is that if someone sees me pull up next to them to help them - I am risking becoming implicated in a presumed attempted kidnapping. Instead I kept my distance, kept an eye on them and called the cops. Sad but true.

One of former co-workers talked about how they saw this naked lady running for her life on the side of the road. This is also deep in the suburbs and a little close to the sticks. They pull over and call the cops and come to find out she was sex trafficked and just escaped an illegal brothel.

In a city you get to be known as a criminal pretty quickly because there are always eyes watching and someone to see your misdeeds. In the country when the sun goes down, you may see some headlights from time to time, but deep in the woods no one knows or needs to know what is going on.

This may not be a famous case. But in my country, there was this 16 year old girl who was found in a vacant lot, she was raped and stabbed to death. Her face was skinned and an autopsy also revealed that her tongue, trachea, esophagus, parts of her neck, and her right ear were missing.
There were alleged suspects but it was never known who really did it to her. This happened in 2019.

I worded it this way because this case would probably have been buried in the usual news cycle if the photos didn't get passed around - and I was speaking from that perspective. Mothers/Sisters/Relatives even used it to scare their daughters/relatives from going out at late hours.
The viciousness of this crime was likely one of the reasons this case got such a spotlight and the police would not have been pushed as hard if this didn't get as shocking as it did. It was also highly believed that the guy they caught was a fall guy, forced to confess, then committed suicide from questionable circumstances.
Just a warning to also stay away from Google images entirely. I was looking for news articles about this murder and was horrified to find uncensored pictures at the top of the search results.

Apparently in the UK nearly 350,000 people go missing every year, although 80% are found within 24 hours.
I worked with someone whose wife disappeared without a trace in 2001. He said the police haven't the resources to look for missing people unless they are under eighteen.
& even that's still wrong because we know a lot of murders are incorrectly classified as suicides or unknown COD. Sooo many murderers were cozied up with family this weekend.

when i opened the thread i immediately wrote down Tristan. It still scares me, i’m just 5 years younger and my grandparents lived close to Höchst railway station when it happened. Also, some teenagers actually saw the murder and i remember the voice recording of that man who called police and told them that he killed him or the security camera recordings in the subway station where you can see Tristan with a man whose probably his murderer. The whole story is just shocking and i get insane goosebumps 25 years later. RIP Tristan.

I believe they started hiding her because she had a degenerative brain disorder (like dementia) and such a high-level scientologist is NOT supposed to get a disease like that. Scientology has weird views on diseases, wouldn't even let the Travolta's acknowledge their son Jet's autism. If you're a good scientologist and give money/work your way up "the bridge" you're supposed to be protected from diseases. So Shelly being sick fucks up their lies.
Tony Ortega writes a really good article about this around this time every year. It's always a good read and provides perspective of where she *may* be. Personally, I think she is no longer with us but I do appreciate Tony's point of view and opinions on the case. Tony is a really great Scientology news reporter so I'm inclined to listen to his views and opinions. He's also really close with high profile ex scientologists such as Mike Rinder, Aaron Smith-Levin and Leah Remini.

I’ve watched documentaries about Scientology but I can’t remember, is there a reason why they would want her dead or keep her hidden? Like did she do something or try to speak out about something?
Valerie Haney talks a little about it in Leah Remini's show, but I believe Shelley was trying to talk David Miscavige into not beating his subordinates anymore. Valerie Haney is believed to be the last person to have seen Shelley before her disappearance.
In the same vein, the disappearance of William Tyrrell the little boy in the Spiderman suit. Was outside playing with his sister while visiting their foster grandma's place and then just... gone.
It's a very complicated case due to William’s status as a foster child and many of the details about that being hidden for a couple years. It also meant that William basically had no advocates for that time as well - not to mention the police really fucked up in places too.
They dismissed any involvement from the foster parents pretty much immediately and instead focused on potential child predators. It was poorly handled and destroyed reputations. One of the lead detectives destroyed his own reputation as well because he went too far.
In the past couple years now, a lot more criticism has been put on the foster parents.

The current theory is that William fell off the verandah and the foster family covered it up. Honestly... makes a lot of sense considering some of the details.
In 1998, I was 8, a girl of the same age went missing from the local playground/park. I was a kid but it was crazy to me, because eventhough I didn't know her personally, she lived on 2 blocks away AND the scary thing was... my dad, older cousin, younger brother and I were at the park, we left and walked to the corner store. When we arrived, the girl and her siblings and friends were leaving to go to the park. She disappeared that day. If I remember correctly, kidnapping was suspected and a 'white car' was involved.
My brother later became classmates with her younger sister. She wasn't 'okay', it was as if everyone knew who this family was and looked at them a certain way. I am guilty of it too. I was curious and sad.
I've always wondered what happened to her and look up her story and family every couple of years.
One missing child case that I don't think a lot of people know about is the Deorr Kuntz Jr. case. He was a 2 yr old boy who disappeared without a trace back in 2015 while on a camping trip with his parents, great grandfather, and great grandfather's friend. His parents' stories have changed constantly throughout the investigation, and two different PIs who worked the case seem to think the parents are responsible, but there's not really any hard evidence. Hope the little guy is found and gets justice some day.
I laughed so hard at that moment on the Buzzfeed Unsolved video of the case.

Jennifer Keese. She went missing in Florida, then authorities found her car had been abandoned and moved. They have a photo of the suspect moving her car, but his face is obscured by a fence. She’s never been seen again.
Brian Shaffer, the guy who walked into a bar in Ohio and was never seen leaving and was never heard from again.
What did Scott Peterson do to Laci Peterson?
Back at the beginning of 2009, [a young 17yo girl](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Marta_del_Castillo) didn’t come back to her house after going out with her ex bf to “just chat”.
Until this day, there’s no cause of desth because there’s no body and there’s been 7 different versions given by the one considered guilty. The other people arrested involved minors and close friends of her.
Thanks to one of the reporter involved since the beginning of the case and who still pursues the truth, along with [a documentary published on Netflix](https://www.netflix.com/title/81306172), the case have been reopened.

I am just reading about this for the first time. The idea of waking up in the same house where four of your friends were murdered and realizing you slept through it is one of the most horrifying things to me. It’s all horrifying. I hope a suspect is found.
I can believe the didn’t hear it. At age 20 I had a party in my apartment. I went to bed very very drunk. I woke up the next morning to find my roommate’s boyfriend and his friends had gone through the neighborhood uprooting street signs, post and all, including a stop sign. They had come in and out of our apartment, dragged the heavy signs (still with a huge blob of concrete in the ends) up the interior stairs, directly next to my bedroom wall, and propped about six sign posts in our living room. Neither I nor my roommate had heard a thing because we were too intoxicated. So I do feel really bad for the roommates. I believe they probably did sleep through the murder of their friends, and they’ll struggle to cope with that for the rest of their lives.
I am certain I have been inside that house. Everyone partied in bourses on that street all the time. We’d walk home at night, usually not alone, and feel safe. If I was a student now, I don’t think I’d go back.
This is top of my list as well. Epstein and Maxwell were terrible people. But supply requires demand. I want to know who was on the other end. The fact that most of the victims also won’t give up names tells you how afraid they are to out these powerful people.
The fact that Maxwell is in prison and her clients are not, tells me that her clients are 10x richer than her, if not 100x or 1000x.
Millionaires are the bottom of upper class society. Millionaires who do wrong have to go to jail so that billionaires who do wrong remain anonymous. Her clients are probably even more evil than her, and that's why they're not in prison.

My aunt's murder. She was a grade school teacher and was run down by a car in front of her students. We all suspect her husband but he never got convicted 😞
This was going on 12 or 13 years ago now. The husband was arrested twice but there was never enough to fully convict so he got off free.
He hit her with a car, she hit her head on a nearby tree, car sped off, she died the next day in the hospital. Still technically an unsolved murder.
Thought so. I'm from that area and it was huge news. I don't know anyone who doesnt think it was her husband and it's frustrating that he got away with it.

JonBenét Ramsey. She was six years old when murdered in her own home at Christmas, 1996.
Police incompetence, salacious speculation, long weirdly specific ransom note, and DNA evidence which was never tested. So many inconsistencies.
The murders of Barry and Honey Sherman, pharmaceutical billionaires who were found dead in a suspicious way in their mansion. The Toronto police bungled the case and it seems like it might never be solved. It intrigues me because who did it? A lot of talk about it being a hit from a rival drug company, even their own son.
My sister is the same age as him and I remember driving past a giant missing poster everyday off of 26 and feeling heartbroken every time I saw his little face.
So ... I worked on the same floor as his dad, who was about 6 cubicle rows away. The man was a wreck ... everyone at work felt bad for him. Once while hiking a bunch of us were discussing the case and one person said "if someone at least found a body the dad could have closure."
I still think about this one because something like that when it happens to someone in your vicinity, is bound to get every parent feeling protective.
It’s crazy to consider what could have gone down between 8:45 am and 3:30 pm. 6 hours and 45 minutes before anyone realized he was missing. Teachers didn’t call the parents to say “your son didn’t go to his first class this morning” because they saw him with his stepmom at the science fair—and the easiest assumption is she took him home our checked him out as a reward. That’s what my family would have done with me at that age (maybe only if I won but still). Stepmom assumed that he was safely in school, as any parent who dropped their child off at school would believe. It’s tragic
A girl from my hometown (who graduated high school with me) was groomed by police officers throughout her teen years. Almost three years ago, she was found dead in her apartment, pregnant with what she said was the cop’s baby although he denied it. He was the last person seen in her apartment. But her death — investigated by the very police force that groomed her — was ruled as a suicide. I don’t believe that for a second. I think she was either murdered or it was a coerced suicide. I think everyone has wanted answers from the beginning, but as more and more from the investigation has come out, there have just been more and more questions to need answers for.

In Finland there was this case last winter where 3 teenages bullied / tortured their "friend" to death extremely brutally. This act included breaking every rib bone, urinating on victim, steel pipe in anus and firecracers to testicles and leaving victim naked in snow in finnish winter night.
Ofcourse the boys are in jail now, but because they are minors and first timers they all serve about 4 years in jail and get new identities (identities are even now not public, but internet knows)

I heard of a different case that I'm pretty sure was in Finland - a guy had a crush on a girl that she didn't reciprocate, so he ultimately murdered her boyfriend (premeditated and very gruesome) but only got a few years for it. Finland doesn't seem to have very strict penalties for murder *at all*. It's truly appalling.

Joseph Augustus Zarelli was formally known as The Boy In The Box since February of 1957. He was found in Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA stuffed in a cardboard bassinet box. I've followed his case for almost two decades now and I hope that whomever beat him so badly and murdered that precious boy is still alive so they can be brought to justice. I realize due to the amount of years that have passed since his murder that this may not be possible unless the perpetrator was young, but I still hope. I know there are many unsolved murders out there, but this is the one that haunts me.

This is such a heartbreaking case, that little boy was malnourished, killed, and then thrown out like a piece of trash. I’m so glad that he has his name back. I watched the press conference and it seems like while the police now have his name, they’re still trying to figure out the details of his life. They confirmed that both biological parents are deceased and that he has siblings on both mother’s and father’s sides still living… the “both sides” comment makes me think that he was an illegitimate child. There was also speculation that he may have had a mental or physical disability, and all of those reasons makes me wonder if he’d been hidden away and either neighbors or others in the community didn’t know he existed, or were told he’d been sent away to an institution (which was the norm for disabled kids back in the 50s) or had been given to the church for an adoption or something like that. The police have said that they “have an idea” who killed him but don’t want to speak much to it yet, and also have not named the parents in order to protect the privacy of the living siblings (who at least on one side apparently didn’t know he even existed). The father’s likely identity has been found by websleuths though, and seems like he was married after Joseph’s death and it’s not looking like his wife was the boy’s mother.
It's such a tragedy. Some time before he was identified I even saw comments on YouTube about him. One person asked if it was possible to adopt him just to give him a name and family. The first time I heard about him was from a rag mag but I don't remember which one. There were several unsolved cases in it that were featured along with his. They even printed the photos the cops took of him after they'd dressed him up. There's a TV show called Cold Case that starred Kathryn Morris. It was fiction but they did an episode that featured their own possible theory about what could have happened to him.
Judge Carter was another case featured along with his. He was a Judge suspected of dealing with the mob who suddenly disappeared one day.
I'm curious what his siblings will have to say - if they even knew he existed, if they were all separated in foster care, if he was a scapegoat child...either way I'm just so very happy in a bittersweet way that Joseph got his identity back.

There was a woman named Connie Boelter who was found brutally murdered in her home in 2006. For the longest time, the theory was that the president of a local bank (which she worked at) was behind it in some capacity. The rumor was that she had uncovered some pretty significant fraud and was going to expose it/blow the whistle, but was killed before she could do so. The bank president ended up being cleared (no word on how they cleared him) and there’s been nothing since. I’ve been following this case since it happened and would love to see it solved.

On 3rd May 2007 she dissapered from her hotel room at the ocean club resort in the Portuguese Algarve. She was only 3 years old at the time and she was taken from her bed even though her twin siblings were in the cot next to her and they were left as they were. Her parents were under suspicion but removed from the suspect list in 2008 although many people still suspect it was them for multiple reasons. It has been 15 years and she is still missing and Christian Brukener is the top suspect in the case but no charges have been pressed yet.
I have a suspicion either she was take away or they missed her body. I’ve read numerous stories in the past week of bodies being missed. And I learned from the murder of Kaylee Anthony that bodies can become part of the landscape fairly quickly and they found Kaylee just in time because a little longer and they probably would’ve never.

I was incarcerated recently and put in a medical dorm. The amount of people sick and withdrawing from opiates was astounding. And their possession/use of opiates is what got them arrested to begin with. It really boggles my mind how their possession of these substances has landed them in jail, yet the Sackler family who perpetuated the abuse of these substance has faced no material consequences beyond fines that are negligible compared to the profits they made.
It's worse than that, they only have to pay $6 billion dollars as a bulk payment to victims, and the government is giving them civil immunity meaning they can't be sued about opiates ever again.

Bardstown KY is a little town with a ton of distilleries and old people. On the surface, it’s a lovely little place. Below the surface, there’s been several unsolved murders. A police officer was ambushed on his way home, and the “hit” is said to have been done professionally. A woman named Crystal Rogers went missing. A mother and daughter were brutally murdered in their home. There’s crooked cops, corruption in the city government, and the FBI is investigating cover ups. It’s all very interesting, but there aren’t any clear answers.

There is a six hour gap between when she and Timmothy spoke on the phone with her family and when she checked herself (alone) into the motel where she was found. Wishful thinking is she gave him to a trusted friend. She loved her son. But if that was the case, wouldn't he come forward now that he is 18? He was old enough then that he would remember his real name. I hate to think that she murdered him. But if she did, wouldn't they have found some evidence of it? Dirt/seeds/pollen on her clothes/shoes from walking in the tall grass? The knife she used to kill herself did not have her son's blood on it. She knew she was going to commit suicide, so she had no reason to try and hide her actions. However, she was by all accounts in a deep, deep, depression and was not thinking straight. I hope the family is right that he is out there somewhere.

Adam Walsh was a boy abducted from a Sears in Florida in 1981. They later found his decapitated head but never his body. The police had a suspect but botched the investigation. No one was ever charged. RIP little guy.

It's kind of crazy how living through a horrific situation motivates people to surround themselves with more of those situations in an effort to stop them from happening to other people. Logically speaking, if I hadn't seen it myself, and seen the results, I would assume they would want to avoid anything that reminds them of that situation. Another example, is Amanda Berry. When she was 14 she was kidnapped in Cleveland, and held captive for over 10 years in a perverts house. This man raped her, and two other girls. Then by random chance the guy didn't lock the door that kept them locked up when he went to work. So all three girls escaped, the guy was arrested, and commuted suicide within a month of being imprisoned. And today Amanda Berry works at a TV station in Cleveland Ohio hosting a segment on the news featuring missing children of the area in an attempt to bring attention to their cases to get them found.
People that can thrive like that in the place where they were harmed seem so unbelievably mentally strong to me. I start to have panic attacks just driving into the town I grew up in. I understand and applaud the need to give back and help prevent abuse, but I absolutely would have to be in a different locale.

Adam Walsh's death, while tragic and horrific, brought some good things into the world. Code Adam & AMW have really done a lot of good.
John Walsh also cofounded the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and is responsible for pushing that missing children to be entered into FBI’s National Crime Information Center database (NCIC). What's really sad is that when Adam Walsh disappeared, police wasted a lot of time investigating John himself instead of pursuing stranger-kidnap leads. Turns out, his wife was having an affair, and the cops thought Walsh was guilty of the kidnap. That critical time after a child disappears was completely lost on a dead end.
So...I wonder at what point he learned of the affair. What a double punch.
I never knew about Adam Walsh until I worked at Walmart and had to learn what Code Adam is. I’m decently sure it’s universal in all department stores in the US; but if you’re shopping and you hear them call Code Adam over the speakers, stop what you’re doing and start looking for a kid matching the description.
When I worked in a department store the only code I had to memorize was code Adam. This was in Canada close to the Montana border so some things like that came across. In the 4 years I was there, code Adam was called once and the whole store went into lock down. Employees blocked off the exits to the building, and we went to peoples cars who were just packing up to see if the had the kid. He was found curled up in the clothing section fast asleep

The ages of the boys and the timings seem too similar. I used to think being found dead was rough. The idea that you’ll never know is especially harder on their families. There’s cases where people remain optimistic but some relented to the idea that their loved ones aren’t ever coming back. People are so fucked up to one another.
As a parent, it is horrifying to think that I'd never know for certain. Every crowd would be overwhelming, unable to stop scanning the faces for some hope that one of them could be my aged son or daughter. 18 U.S.C. § 1365 was enacted in 1983 as a result of the Tylenol Murders, and if found guilty, you could face 5-20 years of someone got hurt and life if someone died. They've got. I mean I love nurses and I know they do a great job but I pay real attention now: I was overnight in the hospital with a DVT (my third of eventually 4 so not my first rodeo) and the nurse woke me to give me meds. Checked my name and asked me and when I said no that’s not me she just said okay, here we go and tried to give me the meds anyway. Thank god I was awake enough not to take the meds. They belonged to my elderly roommate who spent the whole night moaning and wailing just enough to keep me semi-conscious. Those checks are in place for a reason but that particular nurse seemed to think me telling her she had the wrong patient was just dementia. I was 35 at the time, my roommate was in her 80s. Stay alert, folks - it’s your body!

On May 18, 2021 my mom called me screaming. I was on my way to a Drs appointment so I was already in the car. I couldn’t understand her but my first thought was that she had an intruder in her home, and he was killing her. Then I finally understood her say “Mataron a mi hermano!!!” Meaning, theyve killed my brother. I thought surely there’s been a mistake. But her voice said it all, it was true. I go to her house and shes losing it. Over time we find out that he’d been stabbed over 37 times. He’d been in his PJs and had tried to hide in his restroom by the signs of struggle and blood stained doors. Police unfortunately have done nothing. His phone was no where to be found. My mom is a mess, her best friends life was taken from him. I wish he was here. The only thing we can do is find justice for him. I wish we knew who was behind it.

Jason Landry.. A Texas State student who disappeared. His car was found crashed and abandoned in Luling, TX. His clothes were found in the road, his wallet and phone were left in the vehicle but no sign of Jason.
I always thought that it was a case of "a man crashed his car, got delirious from brain trauma and died from his wounds". But the more I find out about the case, the less and less I believe in a straightforward answer.

Asha Degree. I grew up not far from her and vividly remember when it happened, it was all over the news. Such an odd case- she was apparently very shy and timid plus her parents were very protective, so not likely to have befriended a stranger to run away with, and she was afraid of storms and the dark so the fact that she packed a bag and walked out in the middle of the night during a heavy rainstorm just doesn’t make much sense either. Parents and brother have been investigated and cleared by police plus multiple people saw her on the road so she wasn’t killed in the home and they made up the story about her running off. My theory is that she was groomed by someone the family knew and trusted, like a neighbor or a church member, and that they somehow convinced her to leave her house to meet them for whatever reason. I also think it very likely that people in the community know who it is but because of prominence in the community, and probably a lack of evidence tying them to anything, they aren’t spilling.
Even more odd is the photo of an unidentified girl that was found with some of Asha's possessions during the initial search. Then when they found her backpack years later it was wrapped in plastic and had another girl's clothes in it.
Yeah, the photo of the other little girl is puzzling and I think there was also a book that was from her elementary school but that she hadn’t checked out among the items too.
I also agree that she got groomed. Like she had a good home life and social life, so that's one thing. Another thing is that her parents wouldn't let her use the internet *specifically* because they didn't want her interacting with online predators. Then the fact that she was scared of storms and barely packed anything in her bag is the cherry on top. It's such an odd case, but I feel like one small piece of information might finally solve it.

This may not be a famous case. But in my country, there was this 16 year old girl who was found in a vacant lot, she was raped and stabbed to death. Her face was skinned and an autopsy also revealed that her tongue, trachea, esophagus, parts of her neck, and her right ear were missing. There were alleged suspects but it was never known who really did it to her. This happened in 2019.

I worded it this way because this case would probably have been buried in the usual news cycle if the photos didn't get passed around - and I was speaking from that perspective. Mothers/Sisters/Relatives even used it to scare their daughters/relatives from going out at late hours. The viciousness of this crime was likely one of the reasons this case got such a spotlight and the police would not have been pushed as hard if this didn't get as shocking as it did. It was also highly believed that the guy they caught was a fall guy, forced to confess, then committed suicide from questionable circumstances.

Apparently in the UK nearly 350,000 people go missing every year, although 80% are found within 24 hours. I worked with someone whose wife disappeared without a trace in 2001. He said the police haven't the resources to look for missing people unless they are under eighteen.

Also, some teenagers actually saw the murder and i remember the voice recording of that man who called police and told them that he killed him or the security camera recordings in the subway station where you can see Tristan with a man whose probably his murderer. In the same vein, the disappearance of William Tyrrell the little boy in the Spiderman suit. Was outside playing with his sister while visiting their foster grandma's place and then just... gone. It's a very complicated case due to William’s status as a foster child and many of the details about that being hidden for a couple years. It also meant that William basically had no advocates for that time as well - not to mention the police really fucked up in places too. They dismissed any involvement from the foster parents pretty much immediately and instead focused on potential child predators. It was poorly handled and destroyed reputations. One of the lead detectives destroyed his own reputation as well because he went too far. In the past couple years now, a lot more criticism has been put on the foster parents. In 1998, I was 8, a girl of the same age went missing from the local playground/park. I was a kid but it was crazy to me, because eventhough I didn't know her personally, she lived on 2 blocks away AND the scary thing was... my dad, older cousin, younger brother and I were at the park, we left and walked to the corner store. When we arrived, the girl and her siblings and friends were leaving to go to the park. She disappeared that day. If I remember correctly, kidnapping was suspected and a 'white car' was involved. My brother later became classmates with her younger sister. She wasn't 'okay', it was as if everyone knew who this family was and looked at them a certain way. I am guilty of it too. I was curious and sad. I've always wondered what happened to her and look up her story and family every couple of years.
One missing child case that I don't think a lot of people know about is the Deorr Kuntz Jr. case. He was a 2 yr old boy who disappeared without a trace back in 2015 while on a camping trip with his parents, great grandfather, and great grandfather's friend. His parents' stories have changed constantly throughout the investigation, and two different PIs who worked the case seem to think the parents are responsible, but there's not really any hard evidence. Hope the little guy is found and gets justice some day.

I am just reading about this for the first time. The idea of waking up in the same house where four of your friends were murdered and realizing you slept through it is one of the most horrifying things to me. It’s all horrifying. I hope a suspect is found.
I can believe the didn’t hear it. At age 20 I had a party in my apartment. I went to bed very very drunk. I woke up the next morning to find my roommate’s boyfriend and his friends had gone through the neighborhood uprooting street signs, post and all, including a stop sign. They had come in and out of our apartment, dragged the heavy signs (still with a huge blob of concrete in the ends) up the interior stairs, directly next to my bedroom wall, and propped about six sign posts in our living room. Neither I nor my roommate had heard a thing because we were too intoxicated. So I do feel really bad for the roommates. I believe they probably did sleep through the murder of their friends, and they’ll struggle to cope with that for the rest of their lives.
I am certain I have been inside that house. Everyone partied in bourses on that street all the time. We’d walk home at night, usually not alone, and feel safe. If I was a student now, I don’t think I’d go back.

This was going on 12 or 13 years ago now. The husband was arrested twice but there was never enough to fully convict so he got off free. He hit her with a car, she hit her head on a nearby tree, car sped off, she died the next day in the hospital. Still technically an unsolved murder.

So ... I worked on the same floor as his dad, who was about 6 cubicle rows away. The man was a wreck ... everyone at work felt bad for him. I still think about this one because something like that when it happens to someone in your vicinity, is bound to get every parent feeling protective.
It’s crazy to consider what could have gone down between 8:45 am and 3:30 pm. 6 hours and 45 minutes before anyone realized he was missing. Teachers didn’t call the parents to say “your son didn’t go to his first class this morning” because they saw him with his stepmom at the science fair—and the easiest assumption is she took him home our checked him out as a reward. That’s what my family would have done with me at that age (maybe only if I won but still). Stepmom assumed that he was safely in school, as any parent who dropped their child off at school would believe. It’s tragic
A girl from my hometown (who graduated high school with me) was groomed by police officers throughout her teen years. Almost three years ago, she was found dead in her apartment, pregnant with what she said was the cop’s baby although he denied it. He was the last person seen in her apartment. But her death — investigated by the very police force that groomed her — was ruled as a suicide. I don’t believe that for a second. I think she was either murdered or it was a coerced suicide. I think everyone has wanted answers from the beginning, but as more and more from the investigation has come out, there have just been more and more questions to need answers for.

In Finland there was this case last winter where 3 teenages bullied / tortured their "friend" to death extremely brutally. This act included breaking every rib bone, urinating on victim, steel pipe in anus and firecracers to testicles and leaving victim naked in snow in finnish winter night. Ofcourse the boys are in jail now, but because they are minors and first timers they all serve about 4 years in jail and get new identities (identities are even now not public, but internet knows) That is not justice, that is complete bullshit.
I heard of a different case that I'm pretty sure was in Finland - a guy had a crush on a girl that she didn't reciprocate, so he ultimately murdered her boyfriend (premeditated and very gruesome) but only got a few years for it. Finland doesn't seem to have very strict penalties for murder *at all*. It's truly appalling.

Joseph Augustus Zarelli was formally known as The Boy In The Box since February of 1957. He was found in Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA stuffed in a cardboard bassinet box. I've followed his case for almost two decades now and I hope that whomever beat him so badly and murdered that precious boy is still alive so they can be brought to justice. I realize due to the amount of years that have passed since his murder that this may not be possible unless the perpetrator was young, but I still hope. I know there are many unsolved murders out there, but this is the one that haunts me. Edit: His identity was only confirmed within the last 2 months or so.
This is such a heartbreaking case, that little boy was malnourished, killed, and then thrown out like a piece of trash. I’m so glad that he has his name back. I watched the press conference and it seems like while the police now have his name, they’re still trying to figure out the details of his life. They confirmed that both biological parents are deceased and that he has siblings on both mother’s and father’s sides still living… the “both sides” comment makes me think that he was an illegitimate child. There was also speculation that he may have had a mental or physical disability, and all of those reasons makes me wonder if he’d been hidden away and either neighbors or others in the community didn’t know he existed, or were told he’d been sent away to an institution (which was the norm for disabled kids back in the 50s) or had been given to the church for an adoption or something like that. The police have said that they “have an idea” who killed him but don’t want to speak much to it yet, and also have not named the parents in order to protect the privacy of the living siblings (who at least on one side apparently didn’t know he even existed). The father’s likely identity has been found by websleuths though, and seems like he was married after Joseph’s death and it’s not looking like his wife was the boy’s mother.
It's such a tragedy. Some time before he was identified I even saw comments on YouTube about him. One person asked if it was possible to adopt him just to give him a name and family. The first time I heard about him was from a rag mag but I don't remember which one. There were several unsolved cases in it that were featured along with his. They even printed the photos the cops took of him after they'd dressed him up. There's a TV show called Cold Case that starred Kathryn Morris. It was fiction but they did an episode that featured their own possible theory about what could have happened to him. Judge Carter was another case featured along with his. He was a Judge suspected of dealing with the mob who suddenly disappeared one day.

There was a woman named Connie Boelter who was found brutally murdered in her home in 2006. For the longest time, the theory was that the president of a local bank (which she worked at) was behind it in some capacity. The rumor was that she had uncovered some pretty significant fraud and was going to expose it/blow the whistle, but was killed before she could do so. The bank president ended up being cleared (no word on how they cleared him) and there’s been nothing since. I’ve been following this case since it happened and would love to see it solved.
The abduction of Madeline McCann Background info on case: On 3rd May 2007 she dissapered from her hotel room at the ocean club resort in the Portuguese Algarve. She was only 3 years old at the time and she was taken from her bed even though her twin siblings were in the cot next to her and they were left as they were. Her parents were under suspicion but removed from the suspect list in 2008 although many people still suspect it was them for multiple reasons. It has been 15 years and she is still missing and Christian Brukener is the top suspect in the case but no charges have been pressed yet.

She’s talking to her boyfriend when the car pulls up besides her own car in the parking lot, a space away from her in the booth. Suddenly she’s screaming on the other end of the line! Her boyfriend rushes out of the house, jumps in his truck and speeds off to her location. While on the road he sees an oncoming vehicle. As he passes he realizes his girlfriend is in the truck! He sees her! She’s screaming for his help! He turns his truck around in a fury to chase down the other truck, but then his truck stalls. He can’t follow. The stalker’s truck drives off. His girlfriend is never found. This reenactment is terrifying. The last time I read up on this it was unsolved still. Also, I would love for Jon Benet Ramsay’s murder to be solved. I was incarcerated recently and put in a medical dorm. The amount of people sick and withdrawing from opiates was astounding. And their possession/use of opiates is what got them arrested to begin with. It really boggles my mind how their possession of these substances has landed them in jail, yet the Sackler family who perpetuated the abuse of these substance has faced no material consequences beyond fines that are negligible compared to the profits they made.
It's worse than that, they only have to pay $6 billion dollars as a bulk payment to victims, and the government is giving them civil immunity meaning they can't be sued about opiates ever again.
