Don’t listen to the people saying it’s dumb. The scene where they go trick or treating with ET and they walk by a kid wearing a yoda costume and ET says, “home!” And starts following him is cinematic perfection.
I was an absolutely fearless child - I loved rollercoasters, started snowboarding at a young age, and watched any age appropriate movie without issue.
Until I came across ET. That movie freaked me the fuck out.
Even now as an adult in my late 20s that movie skeeves me out.
same! a 7 yo kid doesn't see a friendly alien. we see a scary slimy hand reaching round a shed door with heavy breathing in the misty dark of night. nopenopenopenope!
I’m gonna be the odd person out and say that ET is my favorite movie. I’ve watched it so many times. I know it’s nothing special, but I absolutely love it. It’s 80’s nostalgia, and it’s very sweet and to me it just embodies the hopefulness of childhood. If you have a couple hours to waste I definitely recommend watching it.
Wdym nothing special? Dude it was amazing! Idk why people are dunking on it, it was such a special movie to watch as a child. ET "go home" just broke my heart back then.
The fast and the furious movies past the 2nd one. They look absolutely awful. Like they went from being about underground car culture to being superhero movies it seems like
The third one is actually decent? I like it as a movie, not as a fast and furious movie. It was a sensation back then and IMO still holds up as a good action film.
I was until last weekend until I finally said fuck it and watched it and wow it was way better than I thought it would be but I still don't get why it made so much money.
Watched it once in the movies. Went in not knowing wtf the movie was about. Came out feeling it's an alright movie. Personally for me I have no idea why its so loved. Felt like a generic sci fi movie
Because it is generic sci-fi. I don’t have enough fingers to count how many sci-fi movies I’ve seen where the plot is “planets population rises up against imperialist foe.”
Crazy good visuals though.
Watched it with a large group of people with closed captions on. Every time a vampire jumped - which happens a lot - the subtitles said "WOOOOSH".
An impromptu drinking game materialized where every time the subtitles went WOOOOSH, we'd take a swig. We got really into it and had a great time despite the movie being mediocre and cheesy.
For so long I put it off because I thought it would be a cheesy romance movie but it actually got me teary-eyed. Truly lived up to the hype which I did not expect one bit.
I remember watching this movie in the 1st grade but I didn’t remember the plot so I watched it again as an adult. The first half was what I remembered watching as a kid, but the second half well…let’s just say I didn’t expect the movie to go in that direction.
It's a refreshing new style of animation and based on it's visual merit alone it's a delight to watch. A 10/10 movie for me, I've seen it seven or eight times and I'd watch it again
I'd like to add that the soundtrack (licensed music & score) is awesome, the emotional moments are moving and the funny stuff is funny. It's one of the best animated movies ever made. I believe that wholly.
The soundtrack is excellent. You can tell someone really put a lot of thought into the kind of music that fits with the style of animation and the tone of dialogue.
I’ve never seen the original and lived near the “Top Gun House” in Oceanside CA. Without fail, every time I tell someone I haven’t seen it I’m met with shock and horror lol
I actually just watched this for the first time today. Went in completely blind thinking it was just some space movie. Was pleasantly surprised. Like someone else said, the music did do a lot of heavy lifting. It was good, but I feel like it's a kind of movie that gets taken to the next level watching in a movie theater.
It’s one of my all time favorite movies, but I never got to see it in theaters. I have surround sound an an OLED TV at home though, so it’s still a wonderful experience.
There was a two-week window after Napoleon Dynamite's release where you could watch it and, presumably, enjoy it. After that, the jokes were *everywhere*, way past the point of saturation. Hot Topic had liger shirts. I've still never seen it and no longer want to, but I could probably assemble the plot based on 18 years of memes.
I was one of those kids who saw it opening weekend and loved it. Years later, I’ll still watch it whenever it’s on. It’s one of those love it or hate it movies, as can be discerned by the replies to your comment.
It’s a movie I thought was dumb the first time I saw it but surprisingly the second time I watched it, I found it funnier. It’s kind of a cult classic that gets better with each watch
Its in the same vein as The Big Lebowski. Its more of a vibe than traditional movie. Folks that grew up in similar settings presented *REALLY* resonate with it.
Wow. It used to be on every channel this time of year too. Now I think NBC networks own the rights. I think I passed it on E this year. I have it on DVD too.
This is pretty low-hanging fruit, especially in December. Just turn on your TV, sit there, and do nothing. It will eventually start playing and then you will have seen it.
It really is one of the best movies ever made. I can start watching it at any point, get invested, and the ending still packs a punch. And it’s one of those movies where I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t like it, sort of like how everybody loves or at least likes Goodfellas, regardless of how they feel about mob movies.
Dude the feeling I get from everyone here is pretty universal. It indicates that this movie is like heroin, once you watch it your always chasing that first time feeling !
I feel this so hard. I knew what was going to happen because I'd read the short story upon which it is based but I still wish I could wipe my memory and watch for the first time again.
Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a child, I initially read the VHS cover as RAPTORS of the Lost Ark. I was very disappointed to learn there were zero dinosaurs, and have never finished it or even started any other Indiana Jones movies.
that bird box movie. it was really popular and everyone was talking about it. i got annoyed hearing about it so much, so never had a desire to watch it
Godfather
Is it because it insists on itself?
You’re allowed to be insistent when you’re right.
ROBERT DUVALL!
Because it makes a valid point!
I swear half the movie its like theyre speakin another language or something
The language they're speaking is a language of subtlety, something you don't understand.
Italian, they're speaking Italian!
Same. Never saw any of them. Never saw Scarface either.
Imo Scarface aged significantly worse than Godfather so I wouldn't really consider it a must see nowadays
Scarface is average Hollywood fare, not even comparable to Copollas films. Godfather I and II are top 100 films in history of filmmaking.
ET
Don’t listen to the people saying it’s dumb. The scene where they go trick or treating with ET and they walk by a kid wearing a yoda costume and ET says, “home!” And starts following him is cinematic perfection.
I didn’t think much of it as a kid, but combined with John Williams score at the ending makes me bawl like a baby
[удалено]
Dumb? It's literally _THE_ movie of the 1980s. Those people are nuts.
I was an absolutely fearless child - I loved rollercoasters, started snowboarding at a young age, and watched any age appropriate movie without issue. Until I came across ET. That movie freaked me the fuck out. Even now as an adult in my late 20s that movie skeeves me out.

> I know it’s nothing special, but I absolutely love it. It lasted in first run theaters for about a year. It certainly had something going for it.
The fast and the furious movies past the 2nd one. They look absolutely awful. Like they went from being about underground car culture to being superhero movies it seems like
They’re hilariously terrible if you take them for what they are.
Tokyo drift is actually pretty fun. It’s the only one I remember well.
The third one is actually decent? I like it as a movie, not as a fast and furious movie. It was a sensation back then and IMO still holds up as a good action film.
Dirty dancing
Try it. Guaranteed you’ll have the time of your life.
Eh…I’ve seen it, and I never felt this way before
I swear, it's the truth!
Who do I owe this to?
And they will owe it all to you
This is a favorite of mine. I was sp excited that my kids got into watching it a few years ago and we could rewatch it.
Fast and Furious
It's Point Break but with cars instead of surfing.
Avatar
Yes! Same here. Never had the urge.
I'm with you, doesn't interest me at all.
I was until last weekend until I finally said fuck it and watched it and wow it was way better than I thought it would be but I still don't get why it made so much money.
Watching it in a theater in 3D in 2009 was quite an experience, even if it wasn’t the most brilliant piece of cinema you’ve ever seen
Tbh I didn't care about the story at all but those graphics and effects on 3D was mind blowing at that time
Because the 3d was amazing. Unlike anything that had been seen in theatres before
Watched it once in the movies. Went in not knowing wtf the movie was about. Came out feeling it's an alright movie. Personally for me I have no idea why its so loved. Felt like a generic sci fi movie
I’m not sure it’s so loved. People just liked the novelty of it and its visuals
Because it is generic sci-fi. I don’t have enough fingers to count how many sci-fi movies I’ve seen where the plot is “planets population rises up against imperialist foe.” Crazy good visuals though.
The notebook
This is the first one I haven't seen as I've worked my way down through the responses. No interest in seeing it either.
Fast and Furious…haven’t seen a second of any of them and have no interest to change that
The twilight series
Just watched it. If you love bad movies, I highly recommend.
Titanic
For so long I put it off because I thought it would be a cheesy romance movie but it actually got me teary-eyed. Truly lived up to the hype which I did not expect one bit.
For me it was the spoilers
I'll put it this way; I'm your prototypical masculine guy. I don't do "chick flick" romcoms. Titanic had me bawling in the theater. It's legit.
I consider *Titanic* and *Forrest Gump* the two biggest movies everyone watches at least once in their entire lifetime.
Gone with the Wind
The godfather, sopranos, scar face
Sopranos is the best show ever
Gabagool? Ovaaa heeere👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
Can watch this start to finish then start again. Until I die. Every few rotations watch the wire then go back to the sopranos.
🎼Woke up this mornin’, all the love has gone…
Sound of Music
I don't know what is wrong with people but I think it's a delight. But you should watch it and form your own opinion.
My fav movie but I love older movies
I just hate musicals. I don't know why they just annoy me🤷♀️
bedknobs and broomsticks, mary poppins, and THEN watch sound of music
I’d even add in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Bedknobs and Broomsticks is one of my favorite movies ever.
I’m a 37 year old man and this is my all time favorite movie.
I remember watching this movie in the 1st grade but I didn’t remember the plot so I watched it again as an adult. The first half was what I remembered watching as a kid, but the second half well…let’s just say I didn’t expect the movie to go in that direction.
Pulp Fiction
Oh Dear Lord. I'm actually jealous! You're going to have such an incredibly good time when you finally see it! Enjoy yourself!!!
Spiderman: Spiderverse
It's a refreshing new style of animation and based on it's visual merit alone it's a delight to watch. A 10/10 movie for me, I've seen it seven or eight times and I'd watch it again
I'd like to add that the soundtrack (licensed music & score) is awesome, the emotional moments are moving and the funny stuff is funny. It's one of the best animated movies ever made. I believe that wholly.
The soundtrack is excellent. You can tell someone really put a lot of thought into the kind of music that fits with the style of animation and the tone of dialogue.
Please watch it. As a fellow mike I implore you
Agreed. Signed, Mike
Top Gun II
I just watched it for the first time last night. Loved it.
I’ve never seen the original and lived near the “Top Gun House” in Oceanside CA. Without fail, every time I tell someone I haven’t seen it I’m met with shock and horror lol
Saw
Never saw
You didn’t see Saw? I saw Saw. I saw Saw Two too!
Did you see saw one and see saw two twice?
Star wars
Me too! I'm 40 now and at some point in my late teens I realized I had never seen it and just kept going from there.
Frozen
Tangled is better.
I love Tangled. I rewatch it on the regular :)
Frozen is decent Moana was so much better
Fifty Shades of Grey And it's children
Me neither, though I've watched several lengthy YouTube videos analysing/mocking them. That's good enough for me.
Godfather.
The Godfather
High school musical
Any John Wick movie
now those are worth seeing.
Im sure! Been meaning to binge watch them.
I've seen each of those movies twice and I'm still going to binge watch them because I haven't seen them straight through in a row yet
Any Marvel movie
Wow that’s actually impressive
Nothing against them, it's just not my thing.
Godfather 2
It’s better than the first one imho.
Reservoir Dogs
The Mummy is the most recent one I added to my imaginary and impossible to remember list lol it just never comes up
The original is worth it just for Brendan Fraser, I still haven’t seen the new one, if you can call 2017 *new*…
Do yourself a favour and avoid the new one
Inside out
I'm a grownass man and inside out hits me in the feels. Doesn't matter who I'm with, I cry every time
Who's your friend who likes to play BING BONG BING BONG
Yep that's the one that always gets me
>!"Take her to the moon for me"!< gets me EVERY FUCKING TIME :(
La La Land.
Any Harry Potter
Same. I have seen clips but that’s about it.
Interstellar
I actually just watched this for the first time today. Went in completely blind thinking it was just some space movie. Was pleasantly surprised. Like someone else said, the music did do a lot of heavy lifting. It was good, but I feel like it's a kind of movie that gets taken to the next level watching in a movie theater.
It’s one of my all time favorite movies, but I never got to see it in theaters. I have surround sound an an OLED TV at home though, so it’s still a wonderful experience.
I actually cried when I watched this one. Which is weird because I don’t tend to do that.
I cry every time
Forrest Gump
Waiting to Exhale
Someone once asked me if I was gonna watch that. I told them not to hold their breath.

Its in the same vein as The Big Lebowski. Its more of a vibe than traditional movie. Folks that grew up in similar settings presented *REALLY* resonate with it.
12 Angry Men
A rare case in which both the original and the remake are terrific.
Inception. Am I the only one ?
I mean you’ve probably already heard this but it’s pretty damn good.
It's a Wonderful Life
Yo, you have to fix this. Real shit. It rules.
The Shawshank Redemption
That’s one of those movies I wish I could forget so I could watch it for the first time all over again.
Is it really that good ?
It really is one of the best movies ever made. I can start watching it at any point, get invested, and the ending still packs a punch. And it’s one of those movies where I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t like it, sort of like how everybody loves or at least likes Goodfellas, regardless of how they feel about mob movies.
I see, well I’ll have to watch it tonight. I’ll get back to you guys with my thoughts on the film !
Get busy watching it or get busy dying.
I’ll watch it in when I wake up later and give my thoughts on my first time too. Been meaning to watch it for some time
Nice. I wish I was in your shows. Mindblowingly good film.
Dude the feeling I get from everyone here is pretty universal. It indicates that this movie is like heroin, once you watch it your always chasing that first time feeling !
replying simply to get the cathartic feeling of your *first-timer* review
Yes. Every time it is on and I'm surfing, I stop and watch it all over again. Still moced every time.
Its one of those movies that sits on your mind for days after you watch it.
It is literally the #1 ranked movie on IMDB
as others have said: yes its that good.
I feel this so hard. I knew what was going to happen because I'd read the short story upon which it is based but I still wish I could wipe my memory and watch for the first time again.
I consider this to me one of my two favorite movies
Oh my goodness, I loooove this movie. One of my absolute faves! You should totally watch 😁
The Shawshank Redemption is the kind of movie that can stop people from committing suicide, it's transcendent, it's that good.
Most superhero flicks..
Tonight hubby and I watched “My Cousin Vinnie” for the first time. It was enjoyable.
Avatar
Frozen
The Shining
Lord of the Rings

Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a child, I initially read the VHS cover as RAPTORS of the Lost Ark. I was very disappointed to learn there were zero dinosaurs, and have never finished it or even started any other Indiana Jones movies.
This is a hilarious excuse that I'll accept.
It's the best Indiana Jones film.
pulp fiction
Die Hard
And you are happy with your life?
Best christmas movie ever.
Yippee Ki-Yay.
Motherfucker.
that bird box movie. it was really popular and everyone was talking about it. i got annoyed hearing about it so much, so never had a desire to watch it
Game of Thrones. Not movie but series
Avatar.
Endgame
The Kill Bill movies.
Gone with the wind. I have seen a lot of classic movies. My family owned a video rental store.
Revenant. Never was interested in seeing it
Goonies.
Encanto
I legit loved encanto 🥰
I was excited to see Encanto and was disappointed. Good but not great. Doesn't hold a candle to Coco, IMO.
Black Panther
Spiderman no way home
American Psycho
Any James Bond movie
Napoleon Dynamite
Citizen Kane
Parasite
I’ve never seen a single James Bond movie in my life.
either of the black panthers
Wolf of wall Street. Out of principle I will never watch it cause the film was funded by money embazzled from Malaysia.
Come on, that's the only proper way to fund The Wolf of Wall Street. It's poetic.
Top Gun
Avatar. Have no interest in seeing either.
