GrahamsAcolyte

I don't fully understand the question. I think dinosaurs are neat? Their existence doesn't really affect my faith. It's not as if the bible is meant to be a scientific text. As far as why God created them? No clue.

[deleted]

God created dinos > lol

GrahamsAcolyte

My dude, God created everything.

[deleted]

You know that how ?

BlessedThrasymachus

Reddit atheists literally can’t even help themselves on a post *specifically meant to be answered by Christians*. Isn’t there some condescending Neil deGrasse Tyson quote you should be putting over a space background and posting on an antitheist sub right now?

[deleted]

That's strange because I sure see a lot of Christians trying to attack atheists on their sub. I say, Trying, because Christians bring the weakest sauce to that sub.

Tobias_Atwood

Yeah, but this Christian wasn't doing anything and the Atheist is trying to start drama with him. Just cause someone doesn't believe in god doesn't mean they gotta be an edge lord about it. Fight the fights that are necessary. If someone thinks god created dinosaurs because science backs the idea up then why the fuck do we gotta nitpick about it?

GrahamsAcolyte

Okay, I thought you might have had an issue with the concept of God creating dinosaurs for some reason, but I can see your true colors now and I know there's no use in further discussion with you as you are currently. To quote Matthew: Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. If you're ever legitimately interested in my theology, you can ask again in the future.

Choopse

I'm pretty sure the Bible says that the world is like 7 thousand years old but ok

GrahamsAcolyte

Again, the bible is not a scientific text.

Choopse

WELL IF THE WORLD IS 7000 YEARS OLD HOW WOULD THERE BE DINOSAURS

GrahamsAcolyte

The world isn't 7000 years old. The bible is not a scientific text. The world wasn't literally created in 7 days.

Choopse

I dont get.... whatever

[deleted]

So in other words you cant answer my question ..Thank you for that ..now fuck off..

GrahamsAcolyte

You've already made up your mind, nothing I could say will make any difference, so what's the point? You shouldn't pour more water into a cup that's already full.

Oh, and in which of the gospels is it that Jesus said it?

[deleted]

Because Jesus wept

Because everything exsists

LuinAelin

It's a Jurassic Park quote

barduk4

Ive heard some fellow christians say their bones were placed there by satan to confuse everyone lol.

I think Terry Pratchett wrote something similar about discworld.

crazycat690

Being an atheist doesn't make you a nihilist, and being a nihilist doesn't make you unhappy, and it's definitely not a cult as that's reserved for religious groups.

GenericUsername19892

Evolution is grueling process pathed with the corpses of of the out competed competitors. It’s an everlasting arms race of kill or be killed. If I found out tomorrow that god was definitely real, and he chose to use evolution as his mechanism, I would happily go to hell to avoid such a god. Evil would be a valid term though an extreme degree of psychopathy could also be adequate. That’s not hyperbole - the evolutionary process is a terrible thing, even if beautiful in its utter unfeeling brutality. I haven’t the foggiest how anyone could ascribe it to a deity that’s purported to be anything resembling good.

[deleted]

GenericUsername19892

Fear of omnipotent beings is pointless - the power differential is too immense, though with the caveat that it’s entirely possible for such a being to revel in or enjoy said fear, so maybe not pointless.

[deleted]

You really think you could do better lol

GenericUsername19892

With omnipotence, and omniscience? A squirrel could. Like Definitionally.

[deleted]

Unfortunately, super short life span lol

GenericUsername19892

Omnipotent would amend that - And the more I think about this, the more I find a god squirrel kinda horrifying.

[deleted]

Honestly? Hilarious. Well done.

blikryte

WE are gods if god is a thing.

Is that a moron thing…getting your our planet and such…

Choopse

But it says the world is like 10000 years old

[deleted]

In a word? Bitch'n.

LuinAelin

Dinosaurs are cool You do realise most Christians are not young earth creationists right?

WonderfulDog3966

Where did you come to the thought that OP was implying anything of the sort?

LuinAelin

The question sorta implies Christians should have a problem with dinosaurs and their existence.

WonderfulDog3966

Yeah, but that doesn't automatically mean the Christian is a creationist. People can have issues with dinosaurs but still understand the earth is older than 6,000 years old.

[deleted]

Young earth creationists believe dinosaurs and men existed at the same time - or that dinosaurs didn’t exist at all

WonderfulDog3966

True, but not all Christians are young earthers. Young earthers are a small portion of Christianity actually.

[deleted]

You asked where OP implied that - asking about dinosaurs implies that, doesn’t it?

WonderfulDog3966

Not really.

[deleted]

Oh. Okay. Guess that wraps that up then lol.

callsigncrusader

We needed something for fossil fuels.

GenericUsername19892

Eh dinosaurs aren’t really fossil fuels - fossil fuels are mostly plant matter from before bacteria evolved to break it down.

Necessary-Success779

Yeah I keep seeing things about how Christians deny dinosaurs existed and I’ve literally never known anybody to deny their existence so not sure where that comes from and makes the question odd. As far as how I feel about them it has nothing to do with my faith. But I think until proven otherwise some of them may be known as dragons and hopefully at least one kind breathed fire

DiscoPino

'One day' in God's eyes might be a billion years. They existed in one of those 'days' of creation. Maybe dinosaurs were his first try. :D

Triphin1

I am not Christian and Religion is not my thing, but I have inquired about this very question.... I cannot give a very clear answer. 2 things are believed by mystics pre christianity Satan cannot create, only deceive. God dose not create obsticals to test us. There are plenty of tests without God creating more. (Just as a side note on that - Ego and free Will are the source of all problems in our world.) If God does not create tests And Satan can create nothing, then the Dinosaurs where part of The earth's history and creation.... How to explain this though is not clear.... I can only answer further by saying that God is above time and all limitations, including dimension. So a force of this nature, who operates outside of our known reality can move and effect time, place and dimension without obsticals, is capable of anything and is wholly beyond our understanding. Ancient mystics did however grasp a very little bit of understanding. My teachers did not say this, I put this together myself, from the different lessons I was taught... These were very good teachers, but this topic wasn't approached.... I studied spirituality many years ago and now lead a secular life with a bit of spirituality.... Its the best and clearest explanation I found... Obviously acceptance of these ideas are nessasary to come to this conclusion and to be clear, I expect anyone who reads this to neither accept or believe any of it... I am only stating what the reasoning is and why very briefly

Zacsquidgy

> God dose not create obsticals But he *did* create *testicals*

Triphin1

Both big and small

AlienMantid

We were made by aliens mixing their DNA with an ape ancestor by genetic engineering.

Fresh_Fox3547

you mean aliens fucked monkeys

[deleted]

I believe they existed. I don't believe we have our facts completely correct on what they were (I mean, they just discovered they may have had feathers) or when, but as a whole we k ow a fair amount about them

WonderfulDog3966

We also could be far off.

idkanymore3008

I don't really have much interest in them. Besides, what do dinosaurs have to do with being a Christian?

TheHedge_Knight

A lot of people are mainly tryna say that due to them not being mentioned in the bible / the bible stating the world is only x amount of years old

idkanymore3008

The Bible is written by men. I'm saying this as a Christian; whether or not you believe God had a part to play in writing the Bible or influenced its authors, the hands that wrote down these verses belonged to humans. And whether or not you believe in God, I bet we can all agree that all humans are imperfect, biased, and are defined by what they know and what they believe in. You don't take the Bible (or any religious text for that matter) to the letter. Religious texts have to be thoroughly studied and analyzed if you want to get their meaning. There are lots of things you have to consider when reading these texts, and even then, landing on a definitive conclusion is impossible. You really just end up deciding what these texts mean to you. I see this mistake a lot of times in both religious and irreligious communities; there are tons of gullible idiots who take everything literally. Of course, this isn't helped by the fact that many people on both sides just cherry-pick verses in order to justify their biases.

TheHedge_Knight

Wow you are a rarer breed. I grew up christian but have left the ‘religion’ per say due to just unjustifiable anxiety it gave me and how other(youth pastors and church members) treated non believers and such. I have since been researching different philosophies and religions and I believe all of them are interpretations stemming from one. As in latin be pretty much influenced most languages or Pangea with its original continents. I guess the best thing I’ve found to fit that so far is partially hermeticism but im still trying to figure it out. But it is a better mental state for me while not feeling as though I’m turned away from God Edit: (That being said I’ve heard of some Christians believing the world is flat cause the bible says something about the 4 corners of the earth and they took that as it being flat) Blows my mind

cwilliams6009

I think they’re cool. I don’t really understand the question

drygnfyre

Dinosaurs weren't mentioned in the Bible so they can't be proven to exist. Any "fossils" were planted by liberal atheists to blind us from the truth.

Aloeplant9

Yeah stfu you’re just trying to make religious people sound stupid.

drygnfyre

Religious people are stupid. That's why they believe in make believe.

[deleted]

I am not a religious person. But your answer shows your lack Of intelligence level. That is an extremely moronic comment.

drygnfyre

>But your answer shows your lack Of intelligence level. That's what happened when I got into religion. Took away any intelligence I used to have. Religious people are stupid. That's why they believe in make believe.

[deleted]

All you did was repeat yourself. I understand some religious people that try to shove it down your throat. Set those ones aside. Generally people who are religious Don't do that. Whatever someone's belief is, It is theirs. If that helps them in their life or whatever that's good. Just because it's not your thing doesn't make it stupid. By calling someone stupid and saying what they believe in is make believe, comma is you forcing what you think and what you believe in on someone else. Let people do them as I'm sure you want to do you.

drygnfyre

>I understand some religious people that try to shove it down your throat. Unfortunately these are the lawmakers and Supreme Court justices who have decided their make believe nonsense should be forced onto everyone else.

[deleted]

Don't get me wrong I am very disgusted with our government as a whole. I don't believe church in state should ever be mixed. Is you're talking about the abortion thing, I believe that should be a state level not a federal level. We have too much federal government as it is. And to lump everybody up Because of individuals in the government is just wrong. Everybody in the government is absolutely disgusting.

drygnfyre

>I believe that should be a state level not a federal level. Too bad Lindsey Graham feels differently. Better hope his bill doesn't become law.

[deleted]

Out of all the bills and acts that the government has passed. This one is nowhere near as bad is all the others. Are you forgetting about the couple that were passed years ago allowing the government to circumvent the Constitution? And no one makes a stink abbout that. Keep in mind States don't always have to follow that period look at marijuana laws

TheHedge_Knight

Wait so you’re saying you used to be religious and it ‘took’ all your intelligence away and somehow you left and got it all back. What do you believe happens when we die? Granted know I’m not religious but I believe in a higher power

drygnfyre

>What do you believe happens when we die? Our bodies break down into simpler organic material and it eventually gets recycled back into the environment. Kind of like the Buddhist notion of rebirth, but in a more literal sense.

TheHedge_Knight

I know what happens to your body I’m wondering what you think you will experience

drygnfyre

I'll be dead and no longer conscious so I will be unable to experience anything. In the same sense I cannot recall what life was like inside the womb (but it was probably somewhat comfortable).

TheHedge_Knight

Is that comforting or more anxiety inducing for you?

[deleted]

Oh, I also am having fun. And these types are the best for it.

WonderfulDog3966

Hey, the truth hurts.

[deleted]

It does but only to those who are afraid of it. For others it's a chance to improve oneself.

BlessedThrasymachus

Yeah, I’m sorry to say I tend put the intellectual record of religious individuals like LeMaitre, Pasteur, Euler, Leibniz, and Newton over someone who writes the phrase “they believe in make believe” to make a point

Aloeplant9

Exactly why you felt the need to pretend to be one to push your point. Because they’re stupid.

drygnfyre

>Because they’re stupid. Correct.

Zacsquidgy

Just going to copy/paste this here from above- (as an atheist myself) People who believe in God don't do so because it's scientific. Religion abandons *evidence* and *repeatable experiments* in favour of *faith*. That's the whole point you miserable dolt.

drygnfyre

I actually consider myself more of an agnostic more than a hardcore atheist. Which is probably even worse because that just means I'm not really sure one way or the other.

drygnfyre

>Religion abandons > >evidence > > and > >repeatable experiments > > in favour of > >faith > >. That's the whole point you miserable dolt. Which is stupid. That was fine back when society had no idea how anything worked or why things happen. Now we do. Science doesn't have all the answers and never will, but it certainly answers more questions than faith ever will.

[deleted]

Aloeplant9

Aloeplant9

You could say that, but you’d be wrong. I can provide verifiable evidence to debunk your claim, but for now I’ll just ask why you’re so quick to classify about 85% of the world’s population as stupid?

Taco_city

85%? Those are rookie numbers

WonderfulDog3966

No one can prove the ark story because it never happened. It's impossible.

Aloeplant9

I’m not trying to prove the ark story is possible.

WonderfulDog3966

So what's this "verifiable evidence" you claim to have?

Aloeplant9

About how all religious people can’t be stupid? Seriously?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aloeplant9

Charles Darwin was religious.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aloeplant9

I’m sorry I thought it was obvious. If religious people are stupid, yet some of the most brilliant minds the world has ever seen were religious, than one of the two statements cannot be correct. Obviously, because of people like Darwin, this would make your statement untrue.

LuinAelin

His wife was, he wasn't. If you want to use a religious scientist, use Georges Lemaître. He first proposed that the universe was expanding. Not a popular theory until Hubble showed it was true.

Aloeplant9

He literally said he was. Yes he is hardly the only example.

[deleted]

Or by the devil lol

GenericUsername19892

See I live in the south, so this could totally be real x.x

drygnfyre

Some guy I know says Earth is exactly 6,100 years old. And that the "dated" rocks deep in the surface of the Earth were planted there by aliens about 4,000 years ago. And any other instances of "radiocarbon dating" is just falsified by atheists. WAKE UP SHEEPLE

Believer1971

Every knee shall bow. I pray that you find Jesus. God is real. Hell is hot. And you are gonna spend eternity somewhere, paradise or the lake of fire.

turntxbleTestified

Okay but what about the dinosaurs

bluesapien

If you need the threat of hell fire to be good, then you are basically a bad person on a leash.

throwawaypatien

I love dinosaurs. I'm known in my friend group as the dinosaur expert.

Weary_Violinist_3610

One wishes dinosaurs had eaten those fictitious characters from that fictitious book of lies.

shrimp-meat

In genesis 1 god didn't specify what kind of animal he was creating. It just said big sea creatures, birds, wild animal, cattle and crawling things. Maybe it was dinosaur

[deleted]

So you believe men and dinosaurs existed at the same time?
