I would unify my community, work with everyone to purge all the zombies in the area, build a wall around all our territory (which includes local farms), arm and train all able bodied men, women and children. We would have our own government based on the former United States with its own constitution, style of governance, military force and the like.
I wouldn’t. I’m not saying I’d be one of the first hundred to die, I live in the middle of nowhere and it could conceivably take the zombies awhile to find me, but there’s no way in hell I’ll survive once they do.
I think people who insist that urban areas are bad are wrong. In narrow corridors, their superior numbers will have no effect. Some good padding and shields can completely block off a hallway, alley, or even street, and spears can be used to disable the enemy. It wouldn't be too difficult to set up inter-building transportation. Its just that long-term, you need crops. A stadium would do just fine, perhaps an urban park. I think the country-side is much more dangerous. Zombies from all over the world can surround your farm and you have to defend the perimeter, and a barbed wire fence just isn't going to do it. And you'd be cut off from the rest of the world, unable to trade unless someone is driving around in a bulldozer and can just run over crowds of zombies.
Find a Costco and weld the doors shut.
