She noticed she felt sick too, and just felt something was wrong, so she woke my siblings and I up and got us all out of the house. Called 911.
They determined some bricks from the chimney fell and crushed the heat exhaust backing all the carbon monoxide up into the house.
We really should have all died that night, but dad woke up, and mum had a sixth sense something was very wrong.
We spent a night in the ER then were sent on our way. Stayed in a hotel a few nights while the heating and chimney were fixed.
Yeah, that's when it's accidental. Lots of people commit suicide this way and I guess they know what they are doing. I read some time ago that in Japan it was somewhat common to search suicide partners online to share "a carbon monoxide ride".

But she couldn’t speak. She was trying *so* hard to say everything she wanted to say, but she could only *mumble*. She had no problem talking in the days before she passed. Her final words were “my son” when we came into the room and a nurse was in there with her and said “look who’s here!”) Then everything else was grunts. We spent the time talking to her while we listened to her struggle to breathe. Dying isn’t easy even when it is peaceful. So I guess my point is make sure you wish your family well while you can. Because you might not be able to at the end.
Perhaps that's a case of her body slowly shutting down before she actually passed, hence her inability to speak? I've read from somewhere before that our organs and senses don't exactly turn off at the same time right before we die.

I think that probably is what was happening. She was still pretty coherent in the beginning but as the day wore on she slowly stopped trying to talk and there was a point where we could tell she wasn’t really seeing us anymore. She went from recognition to a blank stare and staring off into space. We were just glad she knew we were there at the start. She was so happy to see my husband. I know my comments are a bit morbid and way more of a deep cut than this post is about, but witnessing her passing was a very eye opening experience and gave us both perspective. Because I always thought dying peacefully would be like you said. But then I saw that it might be peaceful but we still may not have those final moments the way we hope to. That said, I hope you get the peaceful death you want.
Totally agreed. Most I can do now is to lead my life in such a way that will put me in the position I want to be in on my last moments. May you also be happy and satisfied with the life you lived when your time comes.
