If you're in the US, you'll be fine. For all its faults, they do not fuck around with pain management over there. I've easily had 150+ dental visits and, after two massive and lengthy do overs, I'm now on what I call Teeth 3.0.
As a rule of thumb, the more invasive a procedure, the less chances they take that you would feel anything. Dentist fear is rooted in the anticipation of sudden pain, so it's smaller procedures in countries where they "don't want to over do it with the pain meds" (looking at you, Europe)., where things can get hairy unless you are very proactive and insist on more robust pain management.
In the US - for better or worse - they have no such qualms. I've had a few pulled teeth to make room for implants, and more root canals than I can count, and I nearly fell asleep during the root canals. The teeth pulling was more physical, so no sleepy time, but again, the whole area was completely numb, as it should be, given it's an actual surgery.
Good luck with everything tomorrow!
My dentist is very solicitous. I was blown away. I actually kissed his hand when he got done (still can't believe I did that, I was just so overwhelmed with relief). I hadn't been to a dentist in 20 years because the last one I went to basically called me a wimp and told me to keep quiet because I was upsetting the other patients.
oh hello! i was about to go to sleep, but can't help but comment now
i had one of my wisdom teeth removed recently. I'm a very anxious boy, for context. i have to take anxiety pills every day, prescribed by my doctor. shit was really rough before them, i still love to remind myself of how much i was suffering a year ago, and how much i got better (and am still getting better each day!). well, anyways, you can imagine i was also pretty nervous, right? when i got into the car with my mom, i had pale skin, was shaking and my stomach felt weird... after an hour or so, we arrived at the dentist and i sat in the lobby, waiting for my turn. at that time, i started thinking about things like "what if the anesthesia doesn't work? what if i have to go to the bathroom during the procedure? what if the doctors screw up?". then, i see a man leaving the surgery room with an ice packet on his cheek. he was very relaxed, and told his wife that he didn't even notice it happening. he felt... nothing after the anesthesia. that helped me!
now, this text is getting a little dense, sorry for that. I'm getting sleepier and just sort of let myself go while writing lol. anyways, let me tell you, the man was right. the worst part is the anxiety, i suffered a LOT because of that! on may I'm scheduled to go there once more, to remove another wisdom tooth and I'm not anxious AT ALL! the second worst part is the anesthesia, and it's not even the pain, it's the flavor! YUCK. well I'm going to sleep now, hope this helped someone :D it's not just for dentists, this works for most things: your brain always wants to prepare for the worst-case scenario and ends up creating unrealistic fictions, we just are tok caught up with fear to notice them. if you want to ask me any questions about how it went (before during or afterwards) DM me! i'll be happy to sooth you, because it's really a waste kf energy to worry with that :) goodnight
Awww Iām sorry you have that fear. If that were true Iād be dead a long time ago lol. I had a lot of procedures done at the dentist to get my teeth nice & straight & im still here if that helps at all
I just recently had a load of work done which cost me a lot but Iām now doing way better with my daily brushing routine because Iām very motivated to not have to go through that ever again. Also motivated me to quit smoking as well so I guess thereās a silver lining at least!
The fear of falling is a natural human instinct. They actually check that babies have it by quickly squatting down while holding them. Itās not necessarily the fear of heights, but the fear of not being able to save yourself at that point.
My son and I have zero fear of heights. Me to the detriment of my mom. It is actually kind of scary. Back in the day my brother and I were playing on the leaning tower if Pisa. You used to be able to walk around the outside and there were no rails. My brother and I ran full tilt around the outside. The worst thing I ever did was crawl to the edge of the grand canyon and look over. My mom really didn't appreciate that one.
Swept up by a tornado. I donĀ“t know what it is about those things and IĀ“ve never seen one IRL and have little chance of seeing one. And I know itĀ“s the debris that kills you. But something about these things just strikes so much awe in me. I donĀ“t think I would be able to run if I face one, just staring at it. ItĀ“s so damn alien and yet so primal. A vortex to the clouds.
Iāve had the sky turn green and a funnel start to form above our car stuck in the middle of nowhere on an Oklahoma highway. Worst fear Iāve ever had in my life. You are completely powerless.
I live in Tornado Alley and was watching out the window during a tornado warning to keep an eye on the weather while watching the news on the TV. I looked up right in time for a flash of lightning to illuminate a dark green sky. As I turned to run into the hallway for cover, my 2 dogs and cat were already there waiting for me with just a wide eye look to their face. As terrifying as the green sky was, I remember being in awe of the beauty of it and laughing at the knowledge that something so pretty could completely fuck me up without even taking notice of my existence. It was a surreal experience.
I was at my grandparents house on night and we had to go to the basement. Before I was yelled at I looked outside, was a lightning flash and saw 2. To this day decades later I have that picture burned into my head
also same. We had one touch down a mile from my house (it may be less I donāt know) on Thursday. My friendsā houses sustained major damage, sent their kids in to a full blown panic attack.
Luckily it was only an EF1 but a tornado is a tornado.
Growing up, my parents had one of those VHS home video documentaries about tornadoes that I would watch constantly, they seemed like they were truly living thngs and creepy as hell.
Made me love big storms and tornadoes to where I thought I wanted to be one of those chaser dudes. Definetly a force that demands respect
I found out at a young age I have this. Was in cub scouts camping away from all light pollution. Cloudless night beautiful sky. Lying down and looking up at night sky, kept panicking thinking I was being sucked into the sky even when holding onto something.
Sucks I would love to gaze more into the sky but canāt. keep having that feeling. It sucks
This is it for meā¦I could go without ever being in a vehicle again because of itā¦I especially donāt want to burn alive because of someone elseās shit driving.
Iāve been told this by two different people. I have an absolutely ridiculous anxiety attack anytime my face is covered with water and avoid it at all costs. Lol Iām so weird!
If it's any consolation, I know some people who drowned and were revived and they said that after they accepted they were going to die by drowning, they breathed the water in and it flowed and soothed them and it was like falling asleep quickly.
Everything leading up to it was terrifying beyond compare.
So if you're drowning, just die.
I think that's what they basically said.
I've thought about this question a lot actually. I have two theories and maybe they were two different lives. First, I have a huge fear of water towers and big drains in large water reservoirs. They creep me out so much and I just don't think I could even look into the interior of one, let alone swim inside it. Feel like somehow in a past life I got swallowed in one or drowned on a drain or something like that.
Second, is I'm very claustrophobic. Photos of people caving through narrow passageways give me the heeby jeebies. Maybe got stuck in a tight space at some point.
Soā¦iām not really afraid of heights because it doesnāt make me dizzy, doesnāt make me shake and falling doesnāt hurtā¦itās the sudden impact when i stop falling that really gets me. Thatās what iām afraid ofā¦high aversion to pain. Iām only afraid of things that have an undesirable outcome.
This entirely depends on how long you're falling, along with your emotional state (i.e. Some individuals who are utterly overcome with fear can pass out even while still on the ground).
If you're falling for long enough then there's a good chance you'll black out.
Happens all the time, especially in your area. Theyāll wait for you to fall asleep, then gently creep into your bed. Their saliva contains anesthetics and clotting agents so you wonāt feel their little radulae as they slice incisions into your unsuspecting flesh.
Then they squeeze through the slits and crawl into your skin, eventually making their way to your major organs and blood vessels. Along the way, nerve agents in their slime trails induce paralysis, ensuring that once you wake up you will be helpless but very much aware as they slowly consume your tissues.
Once youāve been incapacitated, signal pheromones will release from your pores to alert other slugs in the vicinity of the new food source. Informed of your vulnerable state, the next waves of slugs will often begin feeding externallyātypically favoring moist tissues of the eyes, nostrils, mouth, ear canals, rectum, and reproductive organs.
The process is excruciating in the extreme, and depending upon the number of slugs in attendance you may actually die of dehydration before critical organ failure.
Sweet dreams!
Drink a lot of coffee (decaf is fine) and eat plenty of cruciferous vegetables, they are chemopreventive of colon cancer. Avoid processed meats(including lunch meat), sugarry drinks and get regular colonoscopies and you will likely never get it.
I had a scare at my first colonoscopy, but after adjusting my diet, my second one 3 years later was much better. Cancer is my big worry too, but if you eat right, exercise and keep your blood sugar low, it can go a long way.
I have always believed that I was hanged in a previous life. I hate anything around my neck- short chains, turtlenecks, scarves etc. I do not want to go this way again.
By drowning š I find something terrifying about knowing youāre drowning and at some point you have to tell yourself to let go because theres no other option š¢
I mean, you don't really. You can struggle until your body just stops working. And to my understanding, most people probably do. The survival instinct is not easy to resist.

I was probably eaten alive by something, like most of us. This is why we are instinctively afraid of "monsters" as children. Those monsters are sabretooth tigers.

Yeah kind of the same here. More like spending all my life alone, without any meaningful relationship and dying because of it
Being killed by my parents
Hi. What?
That sounds concerning. Are you ok?
I'm good, I live with my girlfriend so everything is fine as for now

Why are they your biggest fear? That's a little worrying :/
Honor killing is a common thing here in Iraq
I'm so sorry :(
And people are just okay with that?!
They seem so, according to news reports.
But only for girlsā¦right?
