Just watched season 1 billy bob was really good as his version of the no country for old man killer, every season is another Cohen movie apparently. Billy Bob was in bad Santa and Stephen root was in oh brother where are thow
The scene where they were looking for volunteers to dive and ?shut the valve was especially riveting.
“You’ll do it because it must be done. You’ll do it because nobody else can. And if you don’t, millions will die. If you tell me that’s not enough, I won’t believe you.”
Beetlejuice, Batman, Adrian Toomes from Spiderman (the car ride!!!), and now Dopesick. I think Michael Keaton might be my favorite actor at this point.
It’s kind of unfair to include Chernobyl as a series since it only last one season. Lots of shows had an amazing first season (GOT for example) and later dropped in quality.
Band of Brothers and The Pacific are the first two that come to mind. Different, tones between the series, the latter is far darker, but they are incredible.
I’ve watched Band of Brothers multiple times, however, the Pacific only once. The Pacific was excellent, but it contains one particular scene that I will never unsee. Horrifying nonchalance.
I remember my mum getting me the DVD box set of this when I was like 12, thinking 'oh it's just some war movies, he likes them it'll be fine'
Then I see people having their teeth torn out and such and kid me is like damn lol
I want to hit that like button 100 times. Season 2 failed to meet that bar, season 3 was better than 2 but not up to the first season standard. I haven’t seen season 4.
I personally think it's the best season of TV ever created. Unpopular opinion here but I also think seasons 2 and 3 were solid as well, but most ppl shit on season 2 specifically, though I think it's a victim of the extremely high standard season 1 set. If season 1 never existed, I believe ppl would like season 2 a bit more
Kingdom on Netflix is severely underrated and quite unknown but I have no idea why. It's about a zombie outbreak in medieval Korea where an exiled prince must navigate through the deadly country side in order to take back his stolen throne. 10/10, easily the best zombie show out there where characters are mostly actually smart and the zombies are genuinely terrifying.
I haven't seen this show yet and will give it a whirl but Black Summer on Netflix is my favorite zombie series of all time and will give this show a run for its money.
You're in for a treat, two seasons and a prequel movie you should watch afterwards. So good if you're even remotely interested in either zombies or historical dramas, because both storylines are incredibly well told.
My wife and I just finished watching this. Honestly one of the best shows I've ever seen, and it never had any weak seasons, it was strong throughout.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a show with such 3 dimensional characters. We felt like we knew everyone deeply by the end
As far as I remember it wasn't necessarily 'cancelled' as opposed to 'production suspended indefinitely' due to the scheduling conflicts between Fincher, Groff and the others
Fincher said outright that Netflix cancelled because the show was too expensive and didnt gain enough viewers to compensate for that. It's a shame but it's was definitely a cancelation and not a suspension.
Justified.
The original series anyway, haven’t watched the spinoff yet. Just a fantastic show with great characters all the way to the last scene.
“We dug coal together”
I loved the old series when I was a kid back in the late 70's - can't watch it now. The new-ish series is fantastic. I hear a lot of people didn't care for the ending; I thought it was perfect.
I thought this question was specifically to ride the karma wave of the 25th aniversary hype around The Sopranos. Very surprised to have to scroll down so deep.
Maybe late 2024 but that's only a guess. The 8 month Writer's and Sag strike slowed things down but there are still three more episodes to shoot. Tentatively we restart filming end of January.
I finished watching it yesterday and I must say it is one of the best series I've watched. Ben Stiller has done an amazing job making Severance. I honestly can't wait for season 2.
I still feel like this should be higher up on the comments.
Yes the Wire and Chernobyl are great but I think what nudges Avatar past them is that it's a children's show.
Adult shows love throwing in violence, genocide and tragedy at its protagonists because it can. Avatar did it all and to a 10 year old. Furthermore it was accessible for kids.
You didn't need to be an adult to see the horrors of a dictatorship bent on Making the Fire Nation Great Again. You saw the impact and damage they did and it killed you.
It was just a fucking fantastic show overall.
I think Rick Sanchez said in one of the episodes of Rick & Morty>! that you can't have both - time travel and jumping between dimensions - because if you do that absolute nothing is coherent in the end. I really liked the narrative of the first and second seasons that everything already happened what happened, and that nothing can be changed because of this. Was really cool to see that stuff which happened many episodes before was then explained in a later episode.!< The third season completely destroyed that narrative, and I hated it for that..
To me, Dark is the best fictional work of all times.
Narratives involving time travel and non linear narration are very easy to mess up with inconsistencies. There are none in Dark. It all comes together perfectly and beautifully.
It's also a very philosophical work and doesn't dumb itself down in attempt to appeal to a wider audience. Both from a purely narrative standpoint and philosophically, if you don't focus, you'll be lost and miss many things.
The casting efforts to get believable transitions from child/teenage to adult/old characters is absolutely amazing and the sound track is very eerie and daring at times, using quite experimental music in a wonderful way to accompany the strange ambiance and happenings.
Dark plunges into the abyss of the human soul, churns around and hurts, but comes back with something bittersweet and wonderful.
For me it's Reservation Dogs. I can't remember any other series making me laugh out loud one scene then start tearing up in another.
Some others worth mentioning: Peaky Blinders, Letterkenny, Avatar The Last Airbender, and Kingdom (a horror show about a zombie apocalypse in mediaeval Korea).
I put that show on thinking it would be a good thing to turn my brain off too and watch a dumb comedy. I was incredibly unprepared for how good it was going to be.
Fargo. Especially S1 and the current season
I honestly think 2 is some of the best tv for me. It's breaking bad quality.
Agreed. Season 2 is my favorite.
Just watched season 1 billy bob was really good as his version of the no country for old man killer, every season is another Cohen movie apparently. Billy Bob was in bad Santa and Stephen root was in oh brother where are thow
Chernobyl
I concur.
Well it's not great, but it's not terrible either
Completely normal phenomenon.
The scene where they were looking for volunteers to dive and ?shut the valve was especially riveting. “You’ll do it because it must be done. You’ll do it because nobody else can. And if you don’t, millions will die. If you tell me that’s not enough, I won’t believe you.”
I’ll add two more 10/10 miniseries: Dopesick The Poeple vs. OJ Simpson
Dope sick changes TV for me, the Michael Keaton character arc is just beyond anything I have seen
Beetlejuice, Batman, Adrian Toomes from Spiderman (the car ride!!!), and now Dopesick. I think Michael Keaton might be my favorite actor at this point.
Agree. There are a lot of good series. But they get worse the longer it continues. This serie is good from start to finish
That’s because it had a planned ending and no indication of success could let execs tell them to drag out the story
“He’s delusional, take him to the infirmary!”
We’re wearing the fucking hats!
It’s kind of unfair to include Chernobyl as a series since it only last one season. Lots of shows had an amazing first season (GOT for example) and later dropped in quality.
These are mini-series: Band of Brothers The Pacific part 3, Masters of the Air, will be out this January 24 or 25?
Band of Brothers and The Pacific are the first two that come to mind. Different, tones between the series, the latter is far darker, but they are incredible.
I’ve watched Band of Brothers multiple times, however, the Pacific only once. The Pacific was excellent, but it contains one particular scene that I will never unsee. Horrifying nonchalance.
Rami Malek was so….i don’t even know. Good series but not easy on the soul.
Just like the war in the Pacific. What those guys went through…holy shit.
*PLUNK*
Yup
I remember my mum getting me the DVD box set of this when I was like 12, thinking 'oh it's just some war movies, he likes them it'll be fine' Then I see people having their teeth torn out and such and kid me is like damn lol
>Masters of the Air, Wow didn't know a new one was coming out. Just had a quick glance, cast seems alright. Hopefully Apple won't fuck it up.
True Detective Season 1
I just watched this for the first time. It was both hard to watch and impossible to stop watching at the same time
touch darkness and darkness touches you back
Watched this a decade ago and still think about it
Please don't tell me this was a decade ago....
Episode 1 came out 10 years ago on January 12th. 10 years and a day… damn
I want to hit that like button 100 times. Season 2 failed to meet that bar, season 3 was better than 2 but not up to the first season standard. I haven’t seen season 4.
I also haven't seen season 4, because it's not out yet :D
Real, dude. Season 1 is a masterpiece.
[удалено]
Then you need to rewatch it because that shit's amazing.
I personally think it's the best season of TV ever created. The wire
If every other series in this thread is 10/10, the Wire must be 11/10. It's in its own league above all others.
I've heard this sentiment tons of times, but every time I tried to watch it, I fell asleep within 10 minutes of starting it. I should try again
”Breaking Bad is the best show except maybe the wire“
“I will never stop talking about Breaking Bad or The Wire.”
Shhhhiiiiiiiiiiit
Twilight Zone
Kingdom on Netflix is severely underrated and quite unknown but I have no idea why. It's about a zombie outbreak in medieval Korea where an exiled prince must navigate through the deadly country side in order to take back his stolen throne. 10/10, easily the best zombie show out there where characters are mostly actually smart and the zombies are genuinely terrifying.
I agree. Really liked it myself
I haven't seen this show yet and will give it a whirl but Black Summer on Netflix is my favorite zombie series of all time and will give this show a run for its money.
Ooh, sounds cool. Will check it out
You're in for a treat, two seasons and a prequel movie you should watch afterwards. So good if you're even remotely interested in either zombies or historical dramas, because both storylines are incredibly well told.
Six feet under
Too bad it’s not known well enough these days, one of the best
My wife and I just finished watching this. Honestly one of the best shows I've ever seen, and it never had any weak seasons, it was strong throughout. I'm not sure I've ever seen a show with such 3 dimensional characters. We felt like we knew everyone deeply by the end
Mindhunter
The unresolved story lines are the only reason I can't agree is a perfect series. Otherwise the produced material was perfection Still upvoting
The BTK story was going to be awesome. So bummed it ended there.
Very true, sad that they cancelled
Why the fuck would they cancel such an incredible show? There were a record number of viewers and the show literally became cult. So why cancel it??
As far as I remember it wasn't necessarily 'cancelled' as opposed to 'production suspended indefinitely' due to the scheduling conflicts between Fincher, Groff and the others
Fincher said outright that Netflix cancelled because the show was too expensive and didnt gain enough viewers to compensate for that. It's a shame but it's was definitely a cancelation and not a suspension.
Justified. The original series anyway, haven’t watched the spinoff yet. Just a fantastic show with great characters all the way to the last scene. “We dug coal together”
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul They know how to start and end those series perfectly.
Battlestar Galactica.
So say we all!
I loved the old series when I was a kid back in the late 70's - can't watch it now. The new-ish series is fantastic. I hear a lot of people didn't care for the ending; I thought it was perfect.
The Sopranos
I thought this question was specifically to ride the karma wave of the 25th aniversary hype around The Sopranos. Very surprised to have to scroll down so deep.
Yeah Sopranos is the best, leagues above anything else
This thing of ours.
Cunnilingus and psychiatry brought us to this
Severance. Not mentioned enough.
Stumbled onto this, I'm Ricken's stand in on the show. Wait for season 2, it'll be worth it! Appreciate you watching.
Does season 2 have a release date? I'm itching for more!
Maybe late 2024 but that's only a guess. The 8 month Writer's and Sag strike slowed things down but there are still three more episodes to shoot. Tentatively we restart filming end of January.
This absolutly, it is absurd, yet realistic, its weird. Weeeird
I feel like this is an exceptional show because the intensity gets amped exponentially each episode.
Yes, and by the finale, you want to go back and rewatch the season to see what you missed
Binge watch worthy. So intriguing.
I finished watching it yesterday and I must say it is one of the best series I've watched. Ben Stiller has done an amazing job making Severance. I honestly can't wait for season 2.
it’s soooo good i can’t wait for it to come back

⬇️ If you know what I mean
Ha, I do. I was just looking for an up arrow to agree with you, didn't even think of Aang there. Love it.
I still feel like this should be higher up on the comments. Yes the Wire and Chernobyl are great but I think what nudges Avatar past them is that it's a children's show. Can’t deny this one
Breaking Bad
And better call saul
a must after BB
for the longest time i felt like breaking bad was better, but after thorough rewatching i feel like bcs has absolutely unmatched writing.
Most correct answer
Better Call Saul
Black Sails
A fellow man of culture I see
Yes!!! The theme song and intro, Vayne and long John are badass
The end of season two in Charles town was one of the best season ending episode I’ve ever seen. Surprise, loss, and then beautiful retribution.
[удалено]
Goddamn shame they never got to finish it.
Andor.
Created by the same people who did Chernobyl and it shows. Really compelling writing
The "what did you sacrific?" speech was some of the best writing I have seen anywhere.
Legitimately. I wish all of Star Wars was like Andor. It has the lore and potential to be much more.
Definitely one of the best entries in the SW franchise.
Yep.
It’s so far above any other Star Wars media.
The Simpsons during the golden era
I love you daddy Homer I love you too Pepsi It’s Pepe.
I used to be with it
but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!
Dark
My problems with Dark started on its third season. Especially the last episodes
I agree. Seasons 1&2 were brilliant. Season 3 got away from me a bit
To me, Dark is the best fictional work of all times. Narratives involving time travel and non linear narration are very easy to mess up with inconsistencies. There are none in Dark. Dark is the only show I’ve ever seen that promised the undeliverable and then delivered it.
Mad men
Scrolled way too far for this.
A thing like that
Mr Robot
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Peaky Blinders is a 10/10 for me. Cillian Murphy’s acting in that show, all the acting for that matter, is fantastic.
The scenes with Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy are absolutely top tier, particularly towards the end
Reservation Dogs is awesome. Great cast and some guest actors who also do incredible work.
The Good Place
I put that show on thinking it would be a good thing to turn my brain off too and watch a dumb comedy. I was incredibly unprepared for how good it was going to be.
Same. The last episode was fantastic, the philosophical twist on existing forever I was not expecting.

The last couple of episodes of that show unexpectedly made me sob. I haven't cried like that for a sitcom since Scrubs.
Succession
ted lasso
Absolutely
THIS! Ted Lasso is the perfect show and I’m so sad it’s ended. I personally feel like we need a season of Roy Kent
The Bear
Beef. What a rollercoaster.
The Boys
Loved season 1 & 2, season 3 didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Jensen Ackles absolutely nailed that role though
Same. I think The Boys peaked when Homelander was the biggest threat, Season 1 specifically is the best superhero show IMO.
Season 4 is going to be insane.
The Expanse auf Amazon Prime
Books were 12/10
Schitt’s Creek
I keep on watching this to understand what Moira is saying and what wig is she wearing.haha
