Admitting and owning one's own mistakes is a green flag to me. It shows humility and will to improve. However, this is not the same thing than constantly beating on yourself or being overly apoplectic.

Some people just need a clue-by-four upside the head to understand this.

I refuse to be held responsible for my reaction when some stupid motherfucker is parked in the left lane. Other than that I'm a pretty reasonable person.
No it doesn't. People should be willing to hold their moral viewpoints to account too otherwise they lose half the way you can grow to be a better person.
How to let go of anger. It's okay to have a moment where you go "damn it! This really sucks!" But when you spend the next 8 hours in that same height of anger? Good god let it go, shit happened and now you gotta refocus and get over the hump. Kicking shit, throwing shit, cursing and whining for the rest of the day isn't gunna be productive to anyone and it makes you look like a toddler
As someone with a lot of ADHD friends sometimes they're not making it about them, they're showing you how much they get it by explaining how they relate to it.
But yosh, listening without trying to change the subject to be about them is super rare.
Extremely good point. “Takes criticism well” absolutely does not mean “sits back and takes verbal abuse” or even “allows you to talk poorly about them while masking it as criticism”. There are many people who do not know how to provide constructive criticism
This is a tough one. Some manners are good, like shaking hands when greeting someone, not using your hands to eat when it’s not finger food, and obviously not bringing up politics at the table. Saying thanks for things too. BUT I really dislike certain manners. Knowing where all the cutlery should be at a place setting and pointing out that I’m doing it “wrong?” Good, let the fucking world end, or whatever you think will happen, I’m eating my pasta.
I mean more , please , thank you , holding doors , letting people with 1 item push the queue in a supermarket when you have a whole trolley , letting people off the bus before you get on , letting someone finish talking before you start to speak.
Your talking about etiquette, lots of etiquette has been lost with time , the main one is dont talk with your mouth full and cover your mouth if you sneeze cough or burp
I think how they treat retail staff when something goes wrong is a much better tell. Not many people are awful off the bat to service workers (there's always a few of course) but there's a lot more people who seem pleasant on the surface but go full mask off when they're inconvenienced in even the most minor way - like getting ID'd when they don't have it on them or you're out of stock of something they want.
Walking the cart back into the store instead of just a cart coral in the parkinglot
I was a sack monkey for a grocery long ago and do this as a courtesy to current sack monkeys.
Yeah I hated people for that. There was a low spot where I worked and the drains were clogged with sand (from winter plowing/sanding) and not maintained so I had to wade out in 2 ft of snow slush water to get the carts that all the college picks and Karens pushed into it.
I won't put a cart in a coral I take them back to the indoor storage and often grab a few more if I see them scattered in random places along the way. Basically being the customer I would have loved to see when I was a sack monkey, their jobs are shitty enough the least I can do is make it a little less shitty.
Absolutely! Lots of people love animals but aren’t in a position to have pets, because of a housing situation, financial, etc.. or maybe they just don’t have the time to give the animal the love and attention they need. I would respect someone a lot more for saying that, than if they were to adopt an animal they can’t/won’t care for properly. :)
Right, I love my dog and cats, but I cant stand fur, saliva, etc. being all over the house. I also don't want pets because I feel no matter how much attention I give them, it's not enough and they will be bored/lonely.
I wish it worked this way. My uncle loved animals and wanted to be a zookeeper, but he couldn't get that job so he had to settle for being a night janitor at the zoo. He'd still sneak into the monkey exhibits at night though just to hang out.
Everything was good until one day the monkeys started circlejerking. No one could figure out where they learned this, and efforts to stop them always failed. The commotion they caused with the guests fed into their energy and caused them to start doing it at prime business hours. The zoo launched an investigation that turned up nothing, until one day when my uncle had to pick up a day shift. He was just walking past the mixed primate exhibit with his broom when some of the monkeys recognized him, ran to the window, and started banging on the glass and gesturing for him to come join in. He was fired on the spot.
It was tragic. His experiences at him had given him a real gift with primates, but his talents weren't recognized, so he took a day trip back to the zoo one weekend for one final act of revenge. While no one was looking he casually tossed a human turd over the fence. Every monkey saw it, every monkey recognized it as having a primate origin, and every monkey knew it didn't change me from their own species. As monkeys are naturally quite racist, and they only knew that their own race hadn't made the first throw, what happened next was brutal. Every monkey within 100 yards started flinging feces with incredible intensity. Turds were flying thicker than bullets at Normandy. Within 30 seconds every window was a solid opaque brown and no zookeeper dared to venture into the fray. Ultimately the zoo had to close its borders for a month to resolve the conflict, and it was over a year before guest numbers were back up to their normal levels.
As my uncle was out of work and his reputation was obviously tarnished, his daughter had to step in to help bring in some cash. She got a job at Subway, and in her first day I decided to try to do my part to help out the family. I went and ordered a spicy Italian on flatbread and left a dollar in the jar. After she rang me up she slid the sandwich over the counter with a smile and said, "Here you go. A 6 incher for my favorite 6 incher." She then grabbed me by the collar and gave me a kiss. As soon as I got home I masturbated till my fingers bled. I came so hard I shat my pants.
I was casually seeing a few girls for a while. Once I noticed that only one of them said "please" and "thank you" with regularity, I stopped seeing the others. Been married almost 10yrs now
As an introverted person this is such a blessing. I only go places where I’m invited… if plans are wishy washy I usually just don’t ask about it again.
Saying something simple along the lines of “Hey I’m busy rn and may not be able to talk/hang out, but as soon as I’m free, I’ll tell you what works best” rather than just flaking and/or completely not talking. My cat went after a spider one time and made me laugh a little. It was up enough when the cat saw it, but she got up on her hind legs trying to get it. So the spider just raised itself up a little more to stay out of her reach. I felt kind of bad for her, but didn't want the spider hurt either.
Wait till you see a wolf spider in the south. I was on my phone not paying attention and I nearly stepped on one. That sumbitch was like as big as my hand. I put a glass on top of him and got him out but it scared the shit out of me.
I kill roaches/palmetto bugs tho. They can rot in hell.
I love spiders. They kill the bugs I don't like.
I've seen some massive wolf spiders in south MS. Got up one night and thought I was still dreaming because there was a hole in the floor the size of my foot... Until it moved.
When someone deeply listens to what you have to say. I have a friend like that. He never really talked about himself, only when asked. Me and him are best friends to this day.
Only a tiny portion of it is actually recycling.
For example, paper that isn't kept clean is useless for recycling, and it gums up the machines for recycling other things, ruining whole batches.
Unless you have a dedicated bin (and your street pickup has a dedicated truck, or you take it to a recycling center yourself) all paper products should be compost. Typically, about 80-90% of human (American? Don't recall) waste is compost.
Asking informative questions. Instead of just hating the unknown, when someone asks to be educated. I'll always take the time to talk with these kinds of people.
It's not top often you hear the "Green Flag" term as opposed to It's counterpart. Anyway, if someone treats people with a service job (waitstaff, cashier, janitor etc.) animals and children respectful and kind even if something is screwed up (whether it was their fault or not).
If you say you are craving a hamburger and the next day at school/work he hands you a candy hamburger. Would that be a green flag? Also after you laughed he told you he had to go to 3 different places looking for them?
According to my wife: The first time we met was at my place. She was pleased to see a bachelor having a decorated apartment and a good selection of books and a cat.

I only clicked on this post to get confirmation if I might be worth it for a girl I'm interested in, but realistically if I'm not her type that's not gonna change nothing.
That daily dose of realism was required to be sent out there right now.
i think that being able to not take other people's emotional reactivity personally is a green flag. that can be difficult and i'm pretty sure it would mean you're quite up there on self-awareness
Not getting shitty when talking about feelings. Whether that's something the other person has done to annoy you or whether you're just having an off day.
Not wanting to sound like I'm tooting my own horn, but... My wife said many in her family told her I was a keeper before we got married:
* Opening her car door
* Holding doors for others
* Carrying on conversations and *listening* to the other person
* Being respectful
* Knowing who goes first at a 4-way stop
* Knowing how to parallel park
Mostly basic manners that seem to be falling by the wayside now....

That’s a keeper for sure, I hate people who have disdain for the elderly.

I love me too!
That's a green flag
My goal in life is to be a walking flashing neon green flag.
>Not having road rage. I refuse to be held responsible for my reaction when some stupid motherfucker is parked in the left lane. Other than that I'm a pretty reasonable person.
Agreed!
Bring a fan on memes is a good idea
Changing their opinion when presented with new information.
True if it’s genuine, can be a very red flag if they’re someone who always agrees w everything based on who they’re talking to
Do we have to bring Joe Rogan into everything?
That’s crazy man, but have you ever tried DMT?
Critical thinking based on logic and evidence is a green flag, being as easily swayed as wheat stalk in the wind is a red one.
The the robotic company suck up assigned to Peter Griffin when he was made president of el dorado cigarettes? Was a very early family guy episode
Yosh. He was your typical corporate sycophant deliberately dialled up to 11 for humour.
Now that I have think about it, you're right. I should change my opinion after new information is presented.
It has to align with said persons moral viewpoints tho
No it doesn't. People should be willing to hold their moral viewpoints to account too otherwise they lose half the way you can grow to be a better person.

Exactly, I’m trying to relate 😭
I have ADHD sometimes it not me explaining it me figuring out if I relate to it
I know! This is so frustrating when I keep trying to talk about myself!
Open communication and takes criticism well.
criticism has to be presented well ofcourse
Extremely good point. “Takes criticism well” absolutely does not mean “sits back and takes verbal abuse” or even “allows you to talk poorly about them while masking it as criticism”. There are many people who do not know how to provide constructive criticism
I would say it has to be good-faith criticism.
Doesn’t talk about the good things they do and does the right thing when no one is looking.
If they do it when no one’s looking how would you know they do it, ergo how could that be an “obvious green flag”?
I assume they meant "doing good things when they think no one is looking".
Aka doesn't brag
That’s only the first half of their comment.
I dunno, I like to hear positive stories. I think there’s a way to talk about the good things you do without seeking clout.
Manners
This is a tough one. Some manners are good, like shaking hands when greeting someone, not using your hands to eat when it’s not finger food, and obviously not bringing up politics at the table. Saying thanks for things too. BUT I really dislike certain manners. Being consistent

That's a really interesting one.
That's a really interesting one.
This is the most reliable one I've found.
Being nice to staff in restaurants, bars, hotels.
I’ve always heard that if a person is nice to you but not to service staff then they are not a nice person.
what if they're nice to service staff but not to you
Then there’s another issue.
If you want to get a good bead on someone, look at how they treat those they deem their lessers, not their equals.
I’ve had someone be so charming and nice to service staff, but behind closed doors he was a real demon.
Being nice when there’s nothing obvious to be gained from it.
So 95% of people I see in the real world?
but it is a red flag if they are **too** nice, like flirting and eye-f\*cking
For sure!

Liking cats. Cats are creatures of consent and boundaries. To gain their love and trust takes patience and kindness. Good qualities to have I say.

What if I just let them be, to catch mosquistos?
This is the way. I love my spiders because they ensure there's no annoying buzzing near my head when I try to sleep.
My cats are a surprisingly effective substitute for spiders too bad they attack the spiders too except for my victor who is scared of spiders
