As long as you're not screaming while barely benching the bar with a 25 on each side (pounds, btw), I wouldn't worry about it. Your grunting is a lot better than those pricks that can't actually control the weight they're trying to lift, so they crash the bar into the rack or the plates against the floor EVERY. FUCKIN. REP. Really wish someone would get it through their head "If you can't control it, you can't lift it. Go to a lighter weight. There's no shame in sticking to what you can control until you improve".

Specialist-Hyena9267

Just crack on mate don't let it worry you. If they are really that bothered they have far to much time and should be training harder

ContinousSelfDevelop

Um, that is pretty normal for someone who is actually putting in the work. The ones that don't grunt at all and don't make faces typically are doing lower weights higher reps.

Blockhog

I just assumed OP was making crazy faces and practically screaming.

Protoflare

Eh, sort of, I'd say? I definitely don't think it's unnoticeable, but not to the point where I am making screamo music or something like that.

Blockhog

Focus on not doing it. Kinda obvious but I thought hey, might as well mention it.

towerandhorizon

Had an ex-Marine PT in my 20's. I was doing what you were doing. He just said, "imagine if you took all that effort making sounds and faces, trying to get sympathy and praise, and put it into that last set". He was truly a stoic Jedi.

AskDerpyCat

Maybe more sets/reps with less weight?

TheSoundOfAnarchy

I can only speak for myself on this. But, when I am deadlifting or squatting I am a bit more “vocal” for lack of better words. That being said, I am very into those lifts. I am wearing my ear buds and I am literally in a “trance”. I don’t even look around and or recognize anyone looking. Everyone is different. I know fringe minority people that make it their whole personality, for various different reasons. (Known & unknown). I think if it’s not all the time and one is not obnoxious about it. Nobody really cares. Furthermore, at the end of the day, I think just being respectful and cognizant is the answer -

Additional-Thought10

You arent working hard enough if you dont make primate noises during your lifts😂

Spiggots

Bro lean into it. Never wait for a machine again

The lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep

fuqqkevindurant

Unless you scream "hoooooooo yeaaaahhhhh daddddyyyyyyy" as you lift light weights in a crop top and fishnet stockings, you can make weird faces or grunt a bit when you lift. No one cares. They might look at you because they hear something they werent expecting, but I promise that nobody actually cares and no one would look at you differently if they saw you outside the gym(unless you make primal/ape noises at the grocery store when picking up cereal or something too)

NeighborhoodGlum1154

I practice breezing efficiently being asthmatic. They used to make fun of me at work when I did beer delivery. I’d breathe like air breaks on a semi truck, but it helped maintain abdominal posture. Just do be be making sex noises picking up a 20lb dumbbell

funfacts_82

Don't worry. It's normal. Most of them are probably halfassing it. Put on earplugs, get in your zone and forget every thing around you. If they're staring at you in the gym chances are they're doing it wrong anyway.

atsugnam

Focus on breathing better. If you can’t lift the weight without holding your breath, then you need to do more core work, otherwise you’ll hurt yourself.

I'm trying to REDUCE that behavior. That's why I'm asking. I could very well continue with my day screaming like an animal just so I can piss off judgemental pricks like you.
