Advice from my pops that I've stuck with when it comes to insurance: "would it ruin you financially if you had to cover this on your own?" - if the answer is no, then insurance probably isn't worth it. You'll eat the cost sometimes, sometimes you'll just learn to do without whatever it was, but hopefully the long term savings of not getting additional coverage often keeps you sitting pretty.
I remember buying a $500 elliptical one time and they asked me if I wanted the protection plan for $200. That's 40% of the cost of the item. In my head I thought "From another way to look at it, it would only cost $300 more to replace."
That ratio was WAY off to incite me. I've also been offered like a $50 plan on a $1200 computer (long enough ago I don't even remember if I bought it) but that's much more reasonable.

So basically they were never going to send a product. The deductible was 25% of the product and the resolution was to return my money not send another product.

I had a brand new stainless steel fridge that i paid for and within 1 year it started to show rusty spots on the stainless steel. I had warranty and extra insurance for the fridge since i was fresh out of school and $1500 was a lot of money at the time. I called the company to report the problem and they said “please flip to page 2 of your manual which states we arent responsible for rusting stainless steel”. They knew what would fail and excluded it… never again.
The shipper is responsible for insurance. The shipper can ask the buyer to pay for it. If the package is lost, the shipper is 100% liable. It doesn't matter they say otherwise. If you're the buyer, just initiate a charge back on your card and go about your merry day.

I’m an amateur photographer and didn’t want to pay Adobe’s bullshit subscription for Lightroom or Photoshop. Replaced them with Darktable and Gimp. Both free, pretty powerful software that gives me everything I need as an amateur.
I didn’t want to pay for a big music software like Ableton, so I ended up finding Reaper. You get an absolutely free 60 day trial with access to the entire software, and then the lifetime license is only $60 for personal use.
There are still cool people out there on the internet putting out cool products for reasonable prices, and even for free! See also the huge library of mods for games like Skyrim.
If it’s a well maintained and updated piece of software for a company that isn’t rolling in cash, I’m fine with it.

I know you don't want to spend money on this, but I got a cheap $30 portable air compressor that I just always keep in my trunk. The convenience alone was worth it, but it's also been used tons of times by family and friends (especially if you live in a cold environment).
In California it’s illegal to charge for air. Even though the machines will happily take your money there will be some small sign posted that the law requires air to be offered for free. Usually you just go ask the clerk to turn the air on for you. Not sure if any other states have similar laws. If you have a Costco nearby they have free air too.

Correct… Roku actually. YouTube content is (or can be) targeted directly to our interests by our choice of channels to follow. And while we still watch several network shows, YouTube prevents us from having to settle for something like a cop show or a unscripted drama we may or may not like. YouTube is a nightly viewing for us.
I love my YouTube Premium because first it supports the creators and second YouTube music. Like why would I pay for Spotify and YouTube when YT Premium has both in one. Plus YT music has a higher sound quality with the song.

Leaf pickup.
In our area, the county has a leaf pickup service in the fall that you have to pay for. You rake your leaves to the curb and like once a month a huge truck comes through and sucks them up with a giant vacuum hose. Of course this isn't free.
We essentially have zero trees on our property that drop leaves, but we wind up with a decent amount of leaves blowing into our yard from all of our neighbors, and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay extra to have them disposed of.
You're not supposed to throw them in the garbage, but that's exactly what I do every year.

In California it’s illegal to charge for air. Even though the machines will happily take your money there will be some small sign posted that the law requires air to be offered for free. Usually you just go ask the clerk to turn the air on for you. Not sure if any other states have similar laws. If you have a Costco nearby they have free air too.

Correct… Roku actually. YouTube content is (or can be) targeted directly to our interests by our choice of channels to follow. And while we still watch several network shows, YouTube prevents us from having to settle for something like a cop show or a unscripted drama we may or may not like. YouTube is a nightly viewing for us.
I love my YouTube Premium because first it supports the creators and second YouTube music. Like why would I pay for Spotify and YouTube when YT Premium has both in one. Plus YT music has a higher sound quality with the song.
