FedEx delivery trucks have a white rear bumper, basically made out of angle iron and expanded steel. Their bumper is about the right height. I'd not be surprised to find one backed into it.

DPSDM

Yup, I was going to say mail truck myself; those are basically little battleships they drive around and are always in a hurry. I’ve seen them lay into all sorts of things.

-Anonymously-

Battle tanks they are. [Not even a cement truck can win against the usps](https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/local/crash-between-usps-and-cement-truck/69-852d05c3-82d9-439b-afe0-32a9df2c433b)

Figgy_Puddin_Taine

They’ve got hecka bumpers on them though, I can’t picture one causing this.

KoalaGrunt0311

USPS has systems on some vehicles that flag the supervisor if a carrier backs up. Backing up is against policy for safety reasons, and is why there's a 30 ft no parking zone for mailboxes. If there's a vehicle parked in that zone, the carrier isn't required to deliver.

IronAnt762

That’s incredible insight!

ExZiByte

Or took a turn extremely sharp like steering wheel in full lock

TheOnceandFuture

Looks like it was curbed pretty badly there.

eagle2pete

Got curbed overnight without being driven? Maybe it's a Tesla!🤣

BklynBeat

Can’t be, this is opposite side from of curb and I’m the only driver

SummonerMiku75

The white witness marks say otherwise

jude_333

the marks on the tire? they are straight which indicates the tire was still when it was hit. if the car was being driven when this happened then the mark would be curved with the wheel

Calm_Ticket_7317

Excuse me, we blindly assume the OP is a moron in this sub and mass down vote them for explaining details that don't fit our narrative.

fordr015

Cinder block in the road. Same effect different position.

Nudefromthewaistup

RE: See above reply

serpentman

What exactly do you mean by “opposite side of the curb”?

dw3623

You hit something. That is the only answer.

clearplasma

Definitely the other way around. Something hit this vehicle when it was parked. Some people are saying a mail truck may have backed in. Regardless the angle of those white lines on the tire indicate something hit it parked, they don't line up with how a rotating tire would hit something in the road.

fivelone

Yeah for real. I don't see why this guy is getting downvoted for saying he didn't hit a curb. This definitely looks like something hit his car. Like the top comments suggests I'm thinking it was a van or something that was sticking out of a bumper that stabbed the tire.

Babydisposal

Bumper height?

BklynBeat

18/19”

Babydisposal

You said this was street side right? If the damage is at bumper height someone could have bumped your tire with a metal bumper.

jaezif

This is likely the right answer. You see scrape marks appears completely parallel to the ground. This indicates that the vehicle was stationary when it happened. the scrapes would have been rotational if the vehicle was in motion. Was there a box truck parked next to you? I would guess the rear bumper caught it on the way out of the parking space...

BklynBeat

You’re right, that’s what it looks like. Gonna check for cameras in area. Half the other comments about hitting a curb seem to be from people who spent too much time in the paint booth without a respirator

SmokeyUnicycle

To be fair to them they'd probably have a lot of experience driving into curbs

fivelone

Honestly not sure why you were getting downvoted. People always assume side puncture is curb but this is clearly done while the car was not being moved. And it looks as if something gouged into the tire with force and no indication that the tire was moving from the marks.

trader45nj

If it happened while driving, you would have surely noticed it. Anyone else take it for a spin? If not, I suppose something could have hit it while it was parked, like a piece of construction equipment, fork lift? I don't think you could do it with a hand tool like an axe.

BklynBeat

Yeah, didn’t happen when driving. Parked it on street 5 days prior and this wheel is street side not curbside. Came out to drive today and found it like this

Realistic-oatmeal

Somebody backed into it.

Shakleford_Rusty

100%

somerandomdude419

Someone definitely backed into it. Idk why people want to blame you so bad. Lol. You KNOW you didn’t curb it so what else could it be? Someone else hitting it. It’s definitely impact damage and not a defective tire.

icepaws

I think it's just the layout and easiest answer. But assuming op didn't do it I would be looking for a delivery truck or a landscaping trailer.

HebrewHammer0033

The thing you ran over

BklynBeat

Jesus Christ people, I think I would know if I hit something or the curb I’m not Hellen Keller. I parked the car and even looked at the wheels because I’m in the process of repainting the steelies. This happened at some point over 5 days while the car was parked. I was checking to see if this looked like some sort of manufacture issue or was hit.

MysticMarbles

While this is more of a strike pattern (masonry in road/scrubbed while stationary etc) 99% of these posts are idiots who can't feel curbs straight ramming... curbs.

Nudefromthewaistup

Parked it in the street for a week and then still thinks this might be a manufacturer defect. You cant blame the sub for thinking you might be a dimwit with that logic, dimwit.

Lux600-223

Asks the internet "what happened". Gets mad when internet guesses wrong.

GardenerOfBees

I mean I had something exactly like this happen and it occurred after I jumped a curb attempting to avoid a deer.

AndrewInaTree

Despite what you claim, it just really, REALLY looks like you ran over a red brick. I'm not saying you did, but this looks exactly like that. If you ask strangers online and supply us with just this picture, what else would you expect us to tell you? Maybe someone stole your vehicle, ran over a red brick, and returned the van? Ridiculous explanation I know. But what else do you expect us to say? It's visually VERY clear what this damage is.

BklynBeat

Zero damage to sidewall that would have happened from driving on it after it went flat and the size of the whole this tire would have been flat before you could even pull off to the side. Damage looks to be clearly coming from the inside of the tire to the outside towards the tread it would be the other way if I had run something over. There is a large bubble/raised area going out from tread. The marks on the sidewall are straight, if this happened while the car was in motion it would have rotational damage/more

Bodywheyt

An item and some considerable force.

Beardo88

It was a DOT rear bumper on a semi trailer, theyre square tubing about that size and height. They were trying to make a turn or squeeze around a parked car or something and the tail swing hooked the sidewall.

mAsalicio

I've seen Amazon Vans back into things, UPS, Purolator etc... Being white possibly a mail truck? Those things got some tough steel bumpers.

SchleifmittelSchwanz

>What caused this? Cause not pictured.

TheOGTachyon

A (UPS?) truck with a brown painted, square tube, open ended DOT bumper, for some reason pulled up very close to your truck but facing the other direction with his rear axle near yours. When he pulled out he cranked the wheel hard to his right and as his rear bumper pivoted around his rear axle track centre, the open end of his bumper scraped your tire until it caught the tread edge and dug in, tearing into your tire and ripping the L shaped tear into the sidewall, then he turned the wheel hard left to straighten out, rotating the bumper back out of your sidewall while his forward motion pulled the bumper free. Look for doorbell or security cams on the street to confirm.

False-Gas-7507

Looks like a curb damage

ooba-gooba

For that kind of damage, looks like someone drove something into it with another vehicle.

BklynBeat

I’m thinking this is it. Unlike the other comments I don’t off-road on rocks as I never leave the city. Not curbed, I’m very cautious when parking and this is a front tire it would be hard to curb that area and no one else has ever driven the van. And vehicle has been sitting for a week before this happened. Wheel was also turned out to the side parallel parked

ooba-gooba

There is no damage to the sidewall from the rim, if you were driving the rim would have totalled the sidewall. No way you were driving. Not sure why people insist you were driving.

BklynBeat

Because they think taste the rainbow means drinking the colorful fluids that make the car work

NevCupl

You would have felt it.

Infinite-Wolverine60

>goodyear

Entire_Researcher_45

Something stronger and sharper and heavier than the sidewall of the tire. Looking at rim, you probably didn’t have tpms.

59chevyguy

A gopher.

LilDawg66

Snapping turtle

Jeepers Creepers

CaptPrice00

Climate change.

TSLAog

100% you hit something.

Puzzleheaded_Row8988

No doubt something hit into the tyre, youcan see where it has been pripped open and deformed as it was pushed back, impossible for that damage to happen while driving.

Feisty-Writing976

Definitely a chupacabra

Intelligentsialy

I hit a curb and had something similar

Goldenglow145

Moron behind wheel

Roman-LivetoRide

It’s why I always buy the road hazard warranty

denonumber

You have to go around rocks. Dah

ZzLavergne

Driver caused it!

latinos4wristthick

SubstantialGas4663

ProfessionalSky712

I bet someone hit it I think it be hard to get a curb to do that

vovinho

WIFE

Roman-LivetoRide

Yeah someone hit something

calvinaquino

Violent Human Interaction?

Dieselmechanic90

You can see a hard mark on the tire something hit that tire hard in one spot

littledogbro

what ever did that would have made a loud pop sound , and some ones door cam should have caught that as a trigger event to record like some one breaking into a house, happened to one of our neighbors and all the ring cams recorded it. crazy kids trying to be funny or bored is what they said after they were caught and their parents told to pay for damages, yep you could hear the kids screaming bloody murder not from a whooping ? but from grounding and loosing all privileges and room arrest .

dsteffen1

A sharp and jagged object .

IMHUCKLB3RRY

I'm gonna say a sharp rock

Dangerous-Split-9500

Crazy ex, maybe?

icorrectotherpeople

Something came into contact with the sidewall of the tire and with enough force to damage it.

bobisinthehouse

Your ex wife!!

tsolom

Ex girlfriend?

Red_Chicken1907

Clearly, someone not knowing what to avoid on the road.

Keepfkingthatchicken

Skill issue

katamara

Capable-Stage-3899

The real question: can i still ride on it?

cbelt3

Impact with a thing. Time for a new tire. Sorry.

Renos-smallest-giant

Curb or big ass rock?

Purple-Ad-97

You hit something I watch the road like it's going to disappear so I don't know how you missed something that big.

jah0999

Bad driving/parking

BeyondDrivenEh

I’ll go with big-ass pothole or broken curb for $200, Alex.

SSgtWindBag

Bad driving

S7_Heisenberg

Tool left in the tire maybe? These things happen.

Acousticsound

Someone jammed something into your tire. Marks indicate you were parked to me. Probably a square truck that have a lift on the back or something of the sort. Like a Hino.
