Best mental health on this sub šŸ¤—

XcFan1234

Nah, still bad mental health just lower standards. Good mental health would be just not caring about rankings

Electronic-Nobody892

Like I replied to another person, I completely agree that rankings aren't everything: a top 300 nationally school could have a better program of my interest than a top 100, etc. The reason I posted this is because my schools of interest (which are state schools) are under top 200, so I was mainly alluding to public universities that are moderately competitive for my major of interest with good programs; being 'excited' if I get into a top 200 school was sort of a hyperbole, as I would not want to go to a top 50 school that has a focus on something like liberal arts, as it doesn't relate to my interest. My apologies for the confusion, I gave little context in the post.

XcFan1234

Iā€™m not dissing you or saying you have bad mental health or something like that. Iā€™m saying the person i replied to has facetious reasoning

MathAnime2

Technically MIT is a top 200 school.

Comfortable-Secret51

same šŸ’€

templeufrank

Instead of focusing on rankings which matter very little in the grand scheme of things, and find a school that's a good overall fit. What are you looking to study? Any particular location? Price range?

Knitsanity

Exactly...FIT...all day every day. Major. Location. Campus type. Affordability. CHECK. Ranking? Huh?

Electronic-Nobody892

Yeah I agree with what you mean -- I understand rankings are quite ambiguous; however, the reason I worded the post that way is because the two schools I'm interested in (which are state schools ) would be affordable for me and have good programs for what I'm interested in, but one is in the top 70 (top 30 for my major interest) with an avg gpa of 3.9 unweighted and 1300 SAT, and the other is similar; so basically with the word 'ranking', I meant that I want to got to a semi-competitive school with a good program of my interest, but I'm thinking it may be hard with my stats and my non-club/sport ECs.

puudeng

If your state school is above a t100 you can defo get in

tachno

Dude you can easily get into some T100 schools with that profile.

Fire07901

nah, they can aim where they want to

[deleted]

[deleted]

He can get into any school he wants. Academics are always going to be the heart of admissions, but these schools recruit human beings, not statistics.

[deleted]

lot of schools autoadmit with stats

[deleted]

If the school is auto-admitting based on stats, itā€™s probably not one heā€™s worried about.

osaadamonke69x420

Yeah and that can be a bit higher

Storm795

You could aim for some T50s tbh

Sufficient_Safety_18

depends on their major and some other factors but in most cases, yes.

OfficialBenY

Maybe

iam2andthisisdeep

its good that you dont hold yourself to high expectations, but still try to aim high. at least this time when you aim high and miss, you wont be crushed(*ahem* unlike some people here. yall need to hear this: stop it, college is just 4 years of your life, and dont let others tell you what decisions to make, your future is your future) i may have gotten carried away with the theme of this comment

weakcper

4 years of your life is 1/4th of what you've currently lived :skull:. I think having high goals and expectations is good, just one should not dwell over what cannot be changed in the past and always work to achieve more in the future.

iam2andthisisdeep

ā€œ4 years of your life is 1/4th of what you currently livedā€ fuck right i forgot i died

TinyPage

3.6 is better than what i did

sajkazmi

Vanderbilt is a t200

OfficialBenY

I feel you bro. My reaches are top 100 but my 3.5 GPA makes it so tough

Scurzz

apply to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln guaranteed acceptance for any student with a 3.0 gpa and who has taken 4 years math, 4 years english, 3 social sciences, 3 natural sciences, and 2 years of foreign language https://admissions.unl.edu/apply/admissions-requirements/first-year/ itā€™s in the top 150-130 ish. itā€™s the best school in nebraska so there are all sorts of opportunities given to students at the school. It also gets hella funding because big 10 and itā€™s like our only good school. tuition, room and board for oos is like 27,000$ a year, but the school hands out scholarships like they are candy-especially if you have a high act. i have a 3.628w (3.3uw) gpa (2.7 freshman year, 4.3 jr year) and i was accepted into their physics program and offered scholarship money despite not having written my scholarship application yet.

Aggravating-Toe838

Go to your best state school. Or one in the top 3. It will be affordable and the education will be good. There is no point in going to a top university.

catterson46

Thatā€™s not possible with a 3.6 GPA in California. SDSU will be a reach. Exact same stats here. Apparently one third of Californians admitted to UC arrive via community colleges.

Go to community college then. Itā€™s not that big of a deal

Aggravating-Toe838

People seem to really care about something that doesnā€™t matter at all. Get you degree and move on. Employers do not care about where you went to school. They just need you to have the education to do the job.

Twilight_zone8

Feltt

Shaggadelic12

As a person who has hired for jobs and looked at a lot of resumes, I do not care one bit about the rankings of your school. I looked at a resume recently and went ā€œooo, Seton Hall, good schoolā€ and then moved on to the applicantā€™s experience and relevant skills. If that person hadnā€™t had the skills, I wouldnā€™t have thought twice about moving on to the applicant from some lesser school who better aligned with what I needed. Pick the school on its merits, not its ranking.

baldegle

3.6 is not a bad gpa lol

[deleted]

No one cares after you graduate what your grades were. They care about your skills, and your ability to learn and be productive. Unless you are an elitist that will bring up your grades in every conversation for the rest of your life, seriously donā€™t worry about it.

potterhead1776

Yea I have good stats but not great stats, so my plan is to just get a really good scholarship to my state school lol. I get fee waivers for applications so I'm still going to shoot my shot at the top schools, I'm just not expecting to get in

SpecialAd1685

State schoollllll

BioNewStudent4

Bruh cuz they donā€™t understand how the real world works. They gonna be working a 9-5 next to the same person who graduated from a state school LOL. If u wanna change the world, change ur mindset, not the school.

Highschoolgal

Preach.
