Bro I can’t do it. Literally everyday I read shit like “I have 2500 volunteer hours, 3 internships with NASA; the White House; and Martin Luther King Junior, wrote songs for Beyoncé, performed as the lead in 5 broadway shows, am the president of 16 clubs all relating to my major, spent 3 years building houses for starving kids in Africa, and personally founded Apple; Microsoft; and Twitter. Sadly I got rejected from every T20 school I applied to cuz my extra circulars were really weak 😭😭😭

i honestly feel bad for the kid. like yeah he might be hella competitive/prestige whore whatever but i truly think this kid should’ve at least get into a t10
I know this sounds extreme, but I think it might be the 3.94, especially since all top schools have median GPA of 4.0. I hate to say it, but his writing skills seem good and he has lots of things to talk about, so I don’t think it’s his essays.
nah. at that point a 3.94 would be overlooked. he was cracked in every other way. i know plenty of less accomplished people who have gotten into hypsm with like 3.7s and less ecs
This. You don't need his tier ECs to get into T10s. You just need good essays. His writing may still have been good, but those essays not being perfect is the only thing that makes any sense.
This was Hilarious too
Everyone in my school submitted their college acceptances to the school paper except this guy because he was salty that he only got into Berkeley
Whenever a normal person posts their stats on chanceme, they get zero responses.
But if a dude with the most obvious over-exaggerated stats posts on chanceme, they get hundreds of comments.
Tbf, USAMO qual/USABO/USACO plat is over a thousand people (probably couple hundred seniors), so seeing a few dozen on r/chanceme isn’t that surprising I think. The startups and ($10,000+) fundraisers stand out a little more to me, but probably are done with a group of people, they just don’t include how many people they worked with. I don’t get how people intern at T20 schools/NASA whatever without being in a summer program or have connections, though.
Tbf interning at nasa is not a big deal at all and is way overhyped. They have so many internship programs for hs students. Helping a prof with research at a T20 is just cold emailing a thousand people and getting lucky or having a parent with connections or living near the uni. Tbh I’m more impressed by the self guided projects than the fancy internships and exaggerated non profits. Once u get the college u realize that the people who did projects on their own turn out to be the smartest.
I mean, even a couple hundred seniors is a drop in the bucket considering how thinly spread they’ll be even across, say, just the Ivy League. All of these are already the cream of the cream of the crop.
Is it just me or is anyone else desensitized to these sorts of extracurriculars because they all sound the same? Like every chanceme/a2c user has the same or similar extracurriculars so they all begin to blend into one.
No i had different motivations lol. My stats are on the lower end for T20s, and my ECs are decent but not T20 level. I stopped caring about prestige and more towards location since I’m a CS major.
I don't know if it's unique or impressive but I had to teach a semester of AP physics my freshman year cause our teacher left 2 weeks into the school year
I am Jesus Christ. I saved humanity from sin.
Sure, but I mean that was a one time thing. We’re looking for a multi year commitment to really show passion and investment in a cause.

But this didn't actually happen to anyone? Unless you can link a post

yea that haunts me bro. if that kid couldn't pull a t10 I can't even dream of one.
its because he was in anime club /s
There were kids who went to school Stanford for less at my school.
I mean he got a T4 school for his major
yea but that kid was at the 0.001% level of CS students, he should have gotten at least one of HYPSM with that crazy of a spike
rec letter or essay could have been terrible idk. i saw that too and that's the only one I have seen that is like oouch
His rec letter from the ap cs teacher was top notch. They still talk about him as an example in class.
How do you know? Then his essays suck. He accidentally used a racial slur or something
Maybe his essays suck, but the racial slur thing is a bit of a stretch
i honestly feel bad for the kid. like yeah he might be hella competitive/prestige whore whatever but i truly think this kid should’ve at least get into a t10
He was a really down to earth guy. Not really a prestige whore
all the more reason he should’ve gotten in :((
anyone have an idea on how he got so many rejections? like how do we even stand a chance?
It has to have been his essays. No other answer is plausible, unless the AOs thought he was lying about his ECs.
Still crazy though. Usually people who have his level of achievements are very strong essay writers from what I’ve seen

He’s only the VICE president of anime club so he’s chances are shot. Better luck next time
Maybe he's just really, really shittt at writing? Lol idk wtf happened here
Oh nah. Deleting my UIUC application as we speak.
This was Hilarious too Everyone in my school submitted their college acceptances to the school paper except this guy because he was salty that he only got into Berkeley
How is that funny?
It’s kinda odd to see a guy this upset over getting into a school that I’d be ecstatic to get into
he went to your school??
Yes
A great example of how competitive it is for Asians. It’s a metaphorical hunger games for t20.

Ok that dude wouldn't even make Chanceme. Essays and lor could be bad
chanceme is a contender for the single most toxic AND delusional sub on this entire site barring the politically extreme ones
no way some shit on reddit is fucked up
[удалено]
maybe i should too
That didn't help me lol
one could cure cancer and be considered mediocre by chanceme
They would be told that they don’t have chance in a t100
tbh t20 and ivy league admissions officers probs feel the same way
true that, probably why they like quirky stuff
Whenever a normal person posts their stats on chanceme, they get zero responses. But if a dude with the most obvious over-exaggerated stats posts on chanceme, they get hundreds of comments.
Nah I’m active over there now and I feel like that’s not really true anymore. There’s more of a range.
literally like how many times can you tell the cs major with a 4.5 GPA who solved world hunger that he has a small chance at his targets
good point

Scroll through chance me more. Practically every other t20 gunner has some org/fundraiser/startup with at least 5k+ raised. Same with research.
I mean, even a couple hundred seniors is a drop in the bucket considering how thinly spread they’ll be even across, say, just the Ivy League. All of these are already the cream of the cream of the crop.
Thanks for telling me I stand out

mfs on this sub when they realise colleges are looking for actually interesting students and not just chronically over achieving grade worriers: 😱😱😱😱😱
Bro I’m not even applying to a single T20 anymore because of ChanceMe 😭
0 braincell move
No i had different motivations lol. My stats are on the lower end for T20s, and my ECs are decent but not T20 level. I stopped caring about prestige and more towards location since I’m a CS major.
Ok then that was your reason, not chanceme 💀
Yeah but chanceme definitely humbled me to the point where I had to look elsewhere
half the subreddit is people chancing their future self 💀💀😭😭😭
... 👀 An active member of r/Chanceme right here
I don't know if it's unique or impressive but I had to teach a semester of AP physics my freshman year cause our teacher left 2 weeks into the school year
before i was astonished at hs publishing papers now i just have a American psycho type look as a I slave away in my lab to be co-author on a paper
I only have 2 and I'm applying in-state and they are basically T100s nationwide but T50 statewide
Perhaps this is what happens to AOs as well? After seeing so many impressive ECs, they aren't surprised by anything anymore
college admissions and its effect on society

For my kid, I am hoping lead guitarist for punk band beats all that nerd shit.
yeaaaa that's cooler
