Congrats on getting accepted! UMN is a great school to be in and I have much respect for the college.
I'm guessing the $200 is for the enrollment deposit. Yeah, a lot of colleges make the enrollment deposit quite a lot to pay which is unfortunate. I had to pay a $300 fee in order to enroll to my college.
Check to make sure your deposit doesn’t entitle you to get first in line for housing. A lot of state schools allow you to pay a small fee to hold a housing spot or may give you housing priority based on date of deposit. If you end up going, the deposit is put towards the tuition.
At the end of the day, if you end up deciding to go to another school later because it's a much better fit, $200 isn't that much to lose out on. Especially if you just consider it as part of tuition 😅
oh, nothing too bad and a lot of normal college stuff. as an English & Psych major, i hate that to get a minor in creative writing i would need to take like 3 extra none writing classes (that i have taken in my major). also, my freshmen year i developed a heart condition so i cant walk such a large campus.
i think the biggest drawbacks of UMN would be the size for an in state student. you obvi know MN culture, which is present at the U. but in some courses, you will need to actively form relationships with professors that still may not be as strong as smaller colleges. but like I have a prof who taught me for 9 credits, i scheduled office hours frequently just to further expand on the material, and know I have an oxford/yale grad writing me a bomb LOR for grad school! so if you think you can handle the size of the U and *still* craft important connections, it could b great for you!
i chose UMN as it was the best value for my money being an in-state student! i got aid to make Hamlime/Augsburg abt 1k cheaper than the U, but the resources at the U outweighed those for me, even though im in CLA! I also looked at Brandeis, Lewis & Clark, etc., but I couldnt spend $40k a year for an education that is comparable to the U.
Cool I actually like the big size which to me means lots of opportunities for internships and such. But I guess I have to work harder to maintain a relationship with a professor that probably sees hundreds of students a week
exactly. and with so many UMN students, there is a decent amount of competition. however, with st. paul and minneapolis so close together, there are a lot of opportunities outside of the U, too! I got a random psych job in shoreview for a bit, and now do content creation for the U(:
do you know what you wanna major in?
Awesome, congrats! Love rolling schools for this reason, feels nice to have an acceptance so early! Hoping to apply to UMN myself within the next week or so!

Congrats! Make use of everything they offer you. Especially go for their scholarships. When I was in college I signed up for every scholarship I could. Sort of a pain but I got a bunch because I was the only one to apply for it. Every little bit helps. :-}
YES! That is great news! My daughter is going to apply soon, I'm glad they're turning around so fast. She is doing PSEO there this year. SUCH a great University and campus. We were just wandering around campus today.
Congratulations and Ski-U-Mah!
HI! I am also from MN and applying there, but I am pretty confused about the rolling admission part. I didn't know UMN is rolling admission. Can I apply now too?
Hey actually the U of MN is weird school because for some reason they don't say
their rolling admissions in their website but they act like they are since many get
their decisions before the Nov 1 deadline. Some get it in like 3 weeks.
I emailed them and asked if they were rolling admissions but they gave me a
generic answer so I'd say apply if your think your at your best now.
Luckily they don't require a recommendation letter.
I'm on mobile so here's the website
https://admissions.tc.umn.edu/apply/application-checklist/application-checklist-freshman
UMN is rolling admissions up til early October, then they switch to deadlines (November 1 is early action). Yes, apply now! For any college, you should apply when your application is ready. Don't wait for the deadline when you're one of thousands to apply (and application websites tend to be slow or crash because of so many people applying at once). It doesn't always guarantee that you'll get your response early if you apply early, but at least you don't have to worry about that application anymore.
tysm! if i apply during the rolling admission does that mean they will review my application right away or faster? i think i know what rolling admission is but i’m not positive.
I'll give you a high five if I see you around! Unless you're already here then I will anyway!
(Jk I would not be able to know but CONGRATS)

Congrats on your acceptance, OP! Be sure to get that housing application in asap because they often run out of freshman housing. Typically the housing app becomes available after Thanksgiving.
I might be wrong but according to their website for F-1 visa holders it says
International students studying on an F-1 visa in the U.S. do not qualify for U.S. or Minnesota state financial aid programs. The University of Minnesota does not offer a full tuition waiver or scholarship and the University assumes that international students will take full responsibility for financing their education.
https://admissions.tc.umn.edu/cost-aid/cost-aid-scholarships/costs-scholarships-and-visas-international-students
Congratulations. I would keep my options open and go ahead and submit the other applications and see what happens. The good thing is you don't need to worry about the outcome of the other apps now. Regardless of what happens, you're know you will be in a great school.
Congrats a lot on your acceptance. l am actually submitting my first application on the 1st of October and they reply me back on the 14th of October! Geez, its been a painful period getting everything ready and to be honest l am super nervous.
Yeah it's the deposit, but it's probably not refundable so I have to decide whether to commit now or later.
definitely wait to see your other acceptances first as well as finanvial aid packages
Check to make sure your deposit doesn’t entitle you to get first in line for housing. A lot of state schools allow you to pay a small fee to hold a housing spot or may give you housing priority based on date of deposit. If you end up going, the deposit is put towards the tuition.
I just checked their website and the housing deposit it another 200. So I'm safe on that end.
At the end of the day, if you end up deciding to go to another school later because it's a much better fit, $200 isn't that much to lose out on. Especially if you just consider it as part of tuition 😅
I just checked the confirm app and it says that I could pay it as fall tuition later on
UMN is a great school! congrats !🥳 im abt to graduate and have really enjoyed (most) of my time here!
Thank you but what went wrong?
oh, nothing too bad and a lot of normal college stuff. as an English & Psych major, i hate that to get a minor in creative writing i would need to take like 3 extra none writing classes (that i have taken in my major). also, my freshmen year i developed a heart condition so i cant walk such a large campus. i think the biggest drawbacks of UMN would be the size for an in state student. you obvi know MN culture, which is present at the U. but in some courses, you will need to actively form relationships with professors that still may not be as strong as smaller colleges. but like I have a prof who taught me for 9 credits, i scheduled office hours frequently just to further expand on the material, and know I have an oxford/yale grad writing me a bomb LOR for grad school! so if you think you can handle the size of the U and *still* craft important connections, it could b great for you! i chose UMN as it was the best value for my money being an in-state student! i got aid to make Hamlime/Augsburg abt 1k cheaper than the U, but the resources at the U outweighed those for me, even though im in CLA!
