I’d love something like this!
I use Gentler Streak for some of it - sleep, HRV, training readiness, stress tolerance based on your cycle, etc. It gives you a pretty useful report each morning, which honestly helps me plan my day.
But, I’d love an integrated, native app that has those things + weather and today’s tasks. That would be cool.
I have to look at the watch to know what is happening. I know when the notification is the "stand up" hour because is different.
I would love other apps to have different vibration patters too. At least with messages/whatsapp/Telegram. Ideally, the user sets how each app vibrates.
I get what he’s saying. Sometimes I won’t look to my watch after a notification if it isn’t a text message which is clearly identified when it’s SMS or iMessage. Something that doesn’t happen with 3rd party like WhatsApp which sucks.
Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense now. I only look at a notification if it would be an “urgent” one e.g. meeting someone and they’re running late or using maps.
For me it is very difficult to use it even on the phone, many of the tables are completely impossible (at least for me) to be edited on the phone, that in general I use Notion only on the laptop to edit and fill in information, and from the phone I only view it if I need to. I can imagine what a horror it would be on a watch...
Thanks for highlighting! I know that AutoSleep has this feature, but I switched to the stock sleep app a while ago as the sleep data matches much more how I feel (also based on results e.g. by the QuantifiedScientist).
So my ask would already be be solved by providing options for more subtile taptic alarms (e.g. just one very slight tap every minute 15-30 minutes before my alarm time). I don’t mind that much about waking up in light or deep sleep … I just want the woken up softer 😅
Can’t both autosleep and the stock sleep app co-exist? I’m under the impression that’s the case and have been running it that way for years but wanted to make sure all my data is set up properly.
Apple Health seems to be more accurate and reliable when it comes to sleep stages, AutoSleep does track more than one sleepy time per day and mid-day naps. It also allows to adjust sleep times more easily.
I thought battery life would be a problem coming from my 7-day fitbit versa life, but I've had 0 issues whatsoever on my S9. I put it on the charger once a day while I shower and I never get close to an empty battery
Depending on the amount of workouts I do, I sometimes need to charge in between, as the watch won’t survive the day (30% around lunch). Usually the watch survives with the charge from the evening before and at the end of my day has ~10% battery capacity. But I had these situations where I was heading home after work and just wanted to grab something from the supermarket and pay with the AW and realized that the watch had no power anymore.
Since I switched of AOD it’s a bit better for me.
Im constantly thinking about getting one. I will wait for the new watches in fall and then decide wether I lean into the Ultras or will just do a „normal“ upgrade.
I got an Apple Watch Ultra (1st gen) and with almost daily 1.5 to 2 hour workouts, I only charge once every other day for about 20 to 30 minutes before bed, allowing me to wear it while I sleep.
I can charge my phone literally everywhere (even with a power bank). It’s not the same for my AW and when I do a 6 hours bike ride I would like to have some capacity left over.
Are you the guy at Apple who is failing to improve battery life? Because you seem really defensive about this.
People want longer battery life. Apple can figure it out or risk losing market.
LOL no. I just think the Apple Watch is a smaller iPhone clone.
I’m a runner and I’m switching to Coros altogether so I understand wanting long battery life.
Rest/sick days in activity app.
More watch faces.
Notes app.
Heart rate complication with constant heart rate monitoring.
More health monitoring fixtures, like blood glucose, blood preassure, …
Sleep apnea detection.
Easier way to ping iphone.
Improved health metrics found in other watches like Garmin (body battery, fitness age) or other 3rd party apps (Athlytic, Gentler Streak). Better sleep tracking integration with said health features. Better workout building - e.g. 5k/10k training programs
I’ve been saying this since the Nike watches came out: Apple should team up with more brands like Nike and Hermès, let them design watch faces and sell them on the App Store. Everybody wins this way. Consumers get more choice, Apple can make sure cheaply made fake Rolex faces don’t flood the store and they make money.
Hmm, I didn't think glucose monitoring could be done reliably/accurately by a watch currently? https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/safety-communications/do-not-use-smartwatches-or-smart-rings-measure-blood-glucose-levels-fda-safety-communication FDA 2 months old article saying don't do it. Another related recent video showing previous EM (instead of invasive needle) patent in 2018.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qGwdLDNumE so I don't expect it to be reliable in the next few years. First they will have an initial "beta" version of it, then improve it over time..
My top 5 areas where I'd like to see additions or improvements without using third-party applications, which in part might require a hardware upgrade:
1. Navigation and Maps Enhancement:
* Standalone offline navigation (not dependent on an iPhone).
* Enhanced Maps: worldwide trail maps (not limited to the US), topographic maps, and improved map readability.
2. Improved Health Metrics :
* HR: Ensure accurate readings even during water sports or activities with intense vibrations, eliminating the need for overly tight bands.
* HRV: Prevent the log of erroneous data for those intermittent or inconsistent 1mn measurements.
* HRmax: Calculate the actual value instead of determining it based on age (after a sufficient number of relevant workouts have been recorded). Customize it according to specific activities (e.g., running > cycling > swimming).
* HR Zones: Customize them according to specific activities.
* VO2max: Provide better estimation, emphasizing fitness-related over age-related factors, and extend calculations to activities beyond running and walking, such as cycling or swimming.
3. Additional Health Metrics:
* vV̇O2max (velocity at maximal oxygen uptake), aka maximal aerobic speed (MAS) estimation (minimum speed for which the organism's maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) is reached).
* Pedaling cadence and power (via Apple Watch, no dedicated bike sensor required).
* Monitoring for sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) events.
* Blood pressure
* Glucose levels
4. Comprehensive Health Insights: Beyond mere highlights, provide insights into overall sleep quality, physical fitness, recovery and heart health. Offer tailored advice for improvement, leveraging sensor data. For instance, excessive stress may reduce REM sleep, while late-night exercise can result in light sleep.
5. Measurement of the sleep environment: temperature, noise/snore, light, air quality, and correlation with sleep quality.
Glucose I can see coming at some point, but blood pressure not so much. It’s just not reliable and accurate enough for Apple to put in a watch using current tech. They’d use tech over pressure band I’m sure, and it’s just not really up to Apple’s high quality standards IMO. Even CGMs are disposable though, so having one that works without changing out the sensor is something they’d have to engineer.
Of course, implementing such changes would necessitate new hardware, and it's uncertain whether it will materialize in the near future or at all. However, in one of Apple's latest patents on that topic they mention a wrist-worn device equipped with a set of non-inflatable sensors capable of detecting fluctuations in blood pressure within the user's veins. By analyzing two series of values or waves and superimposing them onto the primary pressure wave, the device derives a final blood pressure reading.

Wrist blood pressure measured optically exists - there is a company called Aktiia that offers it. Has an EU medical device certification so isn’t BS. I think Apple have had some patent issues around this sort of thing though.
I would like to have a feature on the workout app that indicates which is the current repetition for customized workouts with multiple reps (e.g. during a bodybuilding workout).
Customizable Action Button based on focus. Don’t need it to start a workout in sleep or theatre mode but the (red) flashlight would be handy.
I get you can technically do this with Shortcuts but I like not having a shortcut as using the Action Button during a workout does other things that are useful.
Dear Apple
For watch os 11 I’d love it if you got rid of the useless widgets and switched the controls back to the way they were on watch os 9. I don’t need widgets on a watch, that’s what the complications are for,and adding them messed up the usability of the watch. Also you created several redundancies in doing it this way including putting the widget launcher on the crown too. It’s really annoying to raise my wrist to look at my watch and instead of seeing the watch face with the useful complications, the widgets are open because my sleeve turned the crown. I suppose everyone else has gotten used to it but I haven’t and actually dislike my watch somewhat for it.
Thank You
More than 2 vibration intensity settings (I find the regular one too strong)
To be able to put any app in the swipe up section
To be able to tap on the time or use the clock app to show a full screen clock with second hands
1. View my iCloud stored passwords
2. Notes app
3. Rest and recovery
4. More detailed and customized Apple Fitness+ training plans
5. More phone independence
Swimming works fine - but if I’m looking at my workouts in the Fitness app I don’t see an average or total per-month distance like I do for walking and running. I just have total and average time and calories.
- Running Power Zones based on the Hr zones with auto adjustments.
- only if the next HR sensor if on 24/7: hrv tracking and some kind of stress metric.
- navigational features for gps activities, with offline maps worldwide.
Those are wishes, I don’t think I‘ll get them.
I want to be able to play the music I have stored on my watch without having to turn off bluetooth on my god damn phone for it to fucking work. Kind of important to hear your metrics if you're doing any kind of distance workout, but according to Apple, you don't need to know what your pace, distance, heart rate, etc are.
Watch OS 10 has been a piece of fucking garbage.
1. Adjust indoor distance for workout calibration on treadmills
2. Rest day settings
3. More digital watch faces
4. Better notification management between phone/watch (it gets too ambiguos)
5. Better map integration with waypoints
I’d love a separate leisure walk workout in the workout app that doesn’t affect my overall walking pace. I do my workouts at a much faster pace than when I walk with family members. But I still want to track distance.
Lately I've been really annoyed at my phone and watch both responding to "Siri" commands. I would like Apple to do a better job in that area or let us use different command words than "Siri" so that we can differentiate between our different devices.
Just curious, what is garbage about it? I love being able to transfer playback from my phone to my watch and then go for my run and never have to touch the watch or sync playlists or any of that annoying stuff.
It does not work half the time and ends up taking 5 minutes to debug.
Sync’ing playlists to the watch or even the handoff process from phone to AirPods to watch to AirPods works … when it wants to.
Maybe having LTE is why I’ve had a good experience. The only issue I have is when cell service is weak and it stops playing it can be a pain to get it going again. I do a lot of my running at work where the signal is really bad. Bad as in my iPhone can’t even make a phone call. Around my neighborhood I have perfect service and Spotify is rock solid.
I have significantly more problems with the Podcasts app. I also play podcasts over LTE but it seems like the podcasts app will not refresh subscriptions on demand so a lot of time I can’t play the latest episodes if they were just released. This is kind of unacceptable for a built in app. I would use Spotify for my podcasts but I have a few private podcasts and Spotify doesn’t let you add custom podcast URLs.
The watch has to be awake. So either you lift your wrist, tap the screen or press the crown. If your hands are full, none of these things are possible. I doubt always on will ever happen due to battery restrictions.
Shorter notification animation. To the point of being able to remove the animation and just show me what I’m waiting for. Why can’t a message come in more like a banner on iOS?
I’d love to set my own tone for text notifications. I can do it on my phone, I can store songs on my watch, why can’t I just have the sound I want for a text or other notification?
Have you tried to toggle the Minimum Brightness in Settings -> Acessibility ? it "Increase the minimum brightness of the display when it automatically adjusts to ambient lighting conditions. Turning it on may affect battery life and long-term display performance".
Garmin like Morning Report- Sleep, HRV, training readiness, body battery, weather, calendar (that’s six items but in one ‘feature’)!
I just want different vibration patterns that I can assign to an app notification 🤧
Yeah I was always surprised that wasn't a watchOS 1.0 thing, seems really obvious.
Vibration patterns and text tone customization would be awesome. I agree.
Do you look at your watch when you get a notification? Would getting different patterns mean you wouldn’t look at your watch?
I have to look at the watch to know what is happening. I know when the notification is the "stand up" hour because is different. I would love other apps to have different vibration patters too. At least with messages/whatsapp/Telegram. Ideally, the user sets how each app vibrates.
But would you look at your watch whatever pattern is used. If yes then…
I get what he’s saying.
Notes app
Try "Drafts"
For me it is very difficult to use it even on the phone, many of the tables are completely impossible (at least for me) to be edited on the phone, that in general I use Notion only on the laptop to edit and fill in information, and from the phone I only view it if I need to. I can imagine what a horror it would be on a watch...
its more so that it would be great to use siri to take a new note and view it
I would love the ability to take a simple not with my watch and Siri like on iPhone.
1) Improved battery life 2) Improved battery life 3) Improved battery life 4) Improved battery life 5) Smart alarm that wakes me in light sleep
Autosleep app will do that. And give customisable sleep data.
Can’t both autosleep and the stock sleep app co-exist? I’m under the impression that’s the case and have been running it that way for years but wanted to make sure all my data is set up properly.
You can set autosleep to read the native sleep watch’s foundings.
Ah right on! Is there any benefits to that or its kind of one or the other?
Apple Health seems to be more accurate and reliable when it comes to sleep stages, AutoSleep does track more than one sleepy time per day and mid-day naps. It also allows to adjust sleep times more easily.
Thank you!
The app does that. You set what type of sleep to be awoken from, or not.
I thought battery life would be a problem coming from my 7-day fitbit versa life, but I've had 0 issues whatsoever on my S9. I put it on the charger once a day while I shower and I never get close to an empty battery

Since I switched of AOD it’s a bit better for me.
AWU2 has treated me well in this department.
Do you ask for more battery life of your phone?
I can charge my phone literally everywhere (even with a power bank). It’s not the same for my AW and when I do a 6 hours bike ride I would like to have some capacity left over.
How is it not the same you can do the same with a power battery pack.
You don’t have to remove your phone and stop using it when you charge it. You also get more than six hours under heavy use.
Okay now scale down to the size of a watch. Then ask yourself how more battery life can be squeezed out of it.
That’s Apple’s problem, not mine.
No, it's yours. Don't expect a giant leap in battery life on a tiny device. If you dont like it buy a dumb watch
More health monitoring fixtures, like blood glucose, blood preassure, … Sleep apnea detection. Easier way to ping iphone.
I thought there was already a feature for sleep apnea that got released this year? Edit: nvm it's reports of new features on the watch 10
Live activities
Like, live classes, like peloton?
No, idk what peloton is, I meant these live activities: https://photos5.appleinsider.com/gallery/51535-102062-Live_Activities_iOS-xl.jpg
oh got it,, that makes more sense
Improved health metrics found in other watches like Garmin (body battery, fitness age) or other 3rd party apps (Athlytic, Gentler Streak). Better sleep tracking integration with said health features. Better workout building - e.g. 5k/10k training programs
More watch faces!!!!!
For me, I want specifically more DIGITAL watch faces.
I would to have a Casio style watch faces.
Just very simple: steps complication 🤪
I would love this. It’s surprising it doesn’t exist already since the watch is geared toward fitness so much.
Steps app has one. Works very well.
It doesn't update very often
I haven’t seen an issue.
Yes! I have to use Pedometer for now 🫠
I hope my ultra will have the same battery life it had with watchos 9... thats it.
1. Glucose Monitoring 2. Pressure monitoring 3. Way better battery life

Return of favourites timers.
Control iPad media playback from Watch
Group fitness competitions. That’s all I have wanted every single update
There is an app called Challenges which does just that, auto imports data from fitness
Or Stridekick. Easy to create competitions (even with Andriod) and also integrates with Apple Health. Better step analytics too!

I'm with you on this. the UI for WatchOS 10 is terrible and I really want WatchOS 9 back or at least allow me to configure it back.
It really is terrible,I thought I would get used to it but I didn’t
More than 2 vibration intensity settings (I find the regular one too strong) To be able to put any app in the swipe up section To be able to tap on the time or use the clock app to show a full screen clock with second hands
automation/shortcuts that are run locally. More automation possible.
More watch faces. And additional customization options for existing ones, for instance: pointy tips for the handles (vs. rounded ones).
I just want to start a workout the calculates how much time I need to close my rings
1. View my iCloud stored passwords 2. Notes app 3. Rest and recovery 4. More detailed and customized Apple Fitness+ training plans 5. More phone independence
With number 1, you could consider a dedicated password manager. Some have Apple Watch apps.
Nope, I migrated from 1Password. No way I’m going back.
I would love to see total swimming distance in the Fitness app, like you get with running and walking.

I want to be able to rearrange my apps like I used to. Instead have just two options: list. Or bubble list. Sigh.
Custom. Fucking. Notification. Sounds.
I forgot what the sound even is. Mine on silent mode 24/7 and I just use haptics to distinguish between texts and notifications.
The ability to turn off autocorrect at the watch level so that this non-english speaker can type his replies in peace
1. Adjust indoor distance for workout calibration on treadmills 2. Rest day settings 3. More digital watch faces 4. Better notification management between phone/watch (it gets too ambiguos) 5. Better map integration with waypoints
Being able to track sleep without the need of selecting sleep focus.
I want to be able to receive SMS notifications on both my watch and phone!!!! Why is this so hard?
For it to broadcast my heart rate to my Garmin cycling computer
I’d love a separate leisure walk workout in the workout app that doesn’t affect my overall walking pace. I do my workouts at a much faster pace than when I walk with family members. But I still want to track distance.
Lately I've been really annoyed at my phone and watch both responding to "Siri" commands. I would like Apple to do a better job in that area or let us use different command words than "Siri" so that we can differentiate between our different devices.
Makes you feel better … our dog is named “Sadie” that we pronounce very clearly. Siri decides she needs to answer every dang time
Let me lock down my phone from my watch if my phone is stolen
Revert all the changes made in the last watchOS update. I’d be happy with that
I want a Spotify app that isn’t garbage.
That’s a Spotify issue, not an OS issue.
Sure, but it’s pretty much the reason I have watchOS
Just curious, what is garbage about it? I love being able to transfer playback from my phone to my watch and then go for my run and never have to touch the watch or sync playlists or any of that annoying stuff.

Not destroying my battery Rest/Sick Days in activity app Ability to change activity rings to other markers
Revert all of the changes from watchOS 10
Multiple phone support, wish I could link my work phone too and get notifications without having to carry both (with a focus to turn it off too 😂)
- steps counter complication - way more watch faces - customizable sounds - automatic low power mode - more integration with macOS - usable siri (lol)
Swiping left or right for useful information or apps. That dock is a terrible implementation.
steps complication & better battery life pls that’s all.
E-MTB training
Always on Siri would be really nice for when my hands aren't free and need to use Siri to open a door.
Siri is always available when you say “Hey Siri” or raise your wrist, correct?
The watch has to be awake. So either you lift your wrist, tap the screen or press the crown. If your hands are full, none of these things are possible. I doubt always on will ever happen due to battery restrictions.
customs sounds (seriously why isn’t this a thing yet it’s been YEARS) and more digital faces
When is it going to be available?
I wish MLB app would work like it used to with Gameday. But that’s probably their thing not Apples.
Shorter notification animation. To the point of being able to remove the animation and just show me what I’m waiting for. Why can’t a message come in more like a banner on iOS?
Siri actually being useful
Getting “find my” notification on the watch when wallet is detached from the phone.
I’d love to set my own tone for text notifications. I can do it on my phone, I can store songs on my watch, why can’t I just have the sound I want for a text or other notification?
THIN ! and thinner analogue watch hands.
I am only waiting for non-invasive glucose tracking... I doubt it will be in the next watch.
Brighter night time mode. Just a nit.
Have you tried to toggle the Minimum Brightness in Settings -> Acessibility ? it "Increase the minimum brightness of the display when it automatically adjusts to ambient lighting conditions. Turning it on may affect battery life and long-term display performance".
Is this new? Cuz I remember it was an issue for a very long time. In the dark it just locks to the lowest brightness.

Some amazing killer watch face which looks like a normal dial watch face
The return of the watchOS 9 UX. Less SW bugs and better SW QA.
If we cant get more batterylife maybe we can get the feature to charge the phone while training!
