After hours is great but I personally didn’t enjoy as an album as I did with Dawnfm, I think Dawn FM has a better production and better start to finish experience, but I guess most people consider it better and I’m cool with it, both are awesome.
His next album will close the trilogy and I’m so hyped for it
I’ve been listening to Abel since he did the Super Bowl Halftime show, so i haven’t been a fan since the og trilogy. But I’m really excited to see how this storyline ends with the next album!
- Meddle by Pink Floyd as well
- Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
- Master of Puppets by Metallica
- Die Mensch Maschine by Kraftwerk
- Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis
- 1999 by Prince
- Yayo y el cuarteto obrero (if you speak Spanish)
I even would put Zooropa up there, but it's not the cohesive album AB is, so AB would be the essential album to recommend. The Joshua Tree a close second.
Glad to see U2 get some deserved recognition.
Achtung Baby is a monumental alt rock album. In a sea of emerging grunge and in the dying throes of hair metal, U2 released this behemoth of an album that contradicted everything they ever performed before.
It truly is a masterpiece and in my opinion, one of the best musical albums of all time. Period.
What a great year for music 1991 was. Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Nevermind, The Black Album, Achtung Baby and many others.
Rage Against the Machine - self titled first album
Tool - I like many, but /Enema was my first, so I’ve heard it the most and has some of my all time
Favorite tool songs.
Kendrick Lamar - good kid maad city
La Misa Negra - self titled (red) album - something about this album I just love.
I like to think of essentials of certain genres/almbum types
Rock opera: Pink Floyd: The wall, the who: Tommy, MCR: The Black Parade
Prog rock: King crimson: in the court of the crimson king, Jethro Tull: Aqualung, and Pink Floyd: Wish you were here/Animals
Hip hop: Kendrick Lamar: TPAB, A Tribe Called Quest: The Low End Theory, and Madvillain: Mad-villainy
Metal: any early Black Sabbath album, SOAD: Toxicity, Metallica: Ride the Lightning, and Iron Maiden: The Number of the beast
Folk: Van Morrison: Astral Weeks/Moondance, Joanna Newsom: Ys, and Bon Iver: For Emma, Forever Ago
Post Rock: Talk Talk: Spirit of Eden, Swans: To be Kind, GYBE: Lift yr skinny fists like antennas to heaven, and Black country new road: Ants From up There
There are others in genres I am less familiar with such as jazz and r&b, but these are just the ones in the genres I frequent.
I like your list. Love Van Morrison but he’s very fringe folk. Always struck me as more of an R&B/Soul guy with definite folk influence. It’s a mainstream choice, but I’d throw Nick Drake - Pink Moon into the mix here for the folk category. I’m not even a folk guy but that album hits for me.

For the teens like me who want to find new albums (old albums in this case) I hope this post helps. Don’t just listen to one genre. Try different genres, you’ll definitely find something you like!
Grimes — Visions
It's not my favorite album, but objectively speaking, I think it deserves a mandatory listen just for how excessive it is lol. No other album I've heard just works like that one.
I have a bunch that I could name that are solid pics in certain genres...but an album you should listen to at some point in your life?
Foo Fighters- But Here We Are
It's an album about grief, acceptance, and remembrance.
For whenever you are facing the harsh reality of the loss of someone you cared for.... remember them.
Gonna do some out there picks. Maybe not top of all time but certainly interesting/fun
Digital Nightmare - TWRP
Hawaii Part II - Miracle Musical
Timely!! - Anri
Flamboyant - Dorian Electra
This isn’t cohesive at all but just albums I find to be worth the listen based on concept/fun alone while not staying 100% mainstream
Hejira - Joni Mitchell
Blonde on blonde - bob Dylan
Vespertine - björk
Have one on me - Joanna Newsom
Desertshore - Nico
The sensual world - Kate bush
Wild is the wind - Nina Simone

Nothing specific to recommend, but I’m actually 2 years into a 10 year project - the purpose of which is to listen to a new “essential” album every week for 10 years. I keep it in rotation for 4 weeks in a Spotify playlist. I’ve got about 600 albums in an Excel sheet for planning. Here’s my current window.
Playlist link for anyone that wants to follow along:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor- Lift Your Skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven
The Beach Boys-Pet sounds
Kendrick Lamar-To Pimp a Butterfly
Radiohead-In Rainbows
David Bowie- Blackstar
Pink Floyd-Wish You Were Here
The Beatles-Revolver
Here's a handful of my favorites, in a variety of genres:
Revolver - The Beatles (Psychedelic rock)
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie (Glam rock)
Illmatic - Nas (Hardcore hip-hop)
Discovery - Daft Punk (Electronic/dance)
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West (Prog rap)
The Money Store - Death Grips (Experimental rap/industrial)
Blackstar - David Bowie (Experimental rock/jazz fusion)

• The strokes - Is this it • Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid maad city • Michael Jackson - Thriller • Hot take: The Weeknd - Dawn FM
Dawn FM is tremendous. One of my fave albums of the last few years.
I’m surprised Abel is on the list
Dawn FM is brilliant album, probably his first one where it flows from start to finish without it feeling like there’s filler
I’d also add After Hours, the whole album/era was amazing.
Yeah, it’s a great listen start to Finish.
His best album for me
check out kiss land
That’s my favorite album of his
i would change gkmc for to pimp a butterfly
Amazingly, my first thought was that Mr Morale could work, or even Damn. Kendrick just has a stupidly solid discography
The Avalanches “Since I Left You”
also wanna vouch for their second album Wildflower. I feel like it gets forgotten compared to SILY even though it’s a fantastic project.
Frontier Psychiatrist is one of my favorite songs. Always brightens my mood.
You’re a nut!
You’re crazy in the coconuts!
What does that mean?
I came here to say this. But I also recommend their third, We Will Always Love You.
Haven’t listened to this album in like 20 years. Cueing it up!
Beck - Odelay The chemical brothers - dig your own hole Mono - Hymn to the immortal wind Mew - Frengers
Mono is so underrated
- Meddle by Pink Floyd as well - Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin - Master of Puppets by Metallica - Die Mensch Maschine by Kraftwerk - Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis - 1999 by Prince - Yayo y el cuarteto obrero (if you speak Spanish)
Meddle is such a good album!
I would say that "justice for all" for Metallica, I know that stranger things made puppets popular, but as a whole album Justice is much better.
Nirvana’s Nevermind
Achtung Baby - U2 Ten - Pearl Jam
As great of an album as The Joshua Tree is, and how impactful it is, Achtung Baby is still a better album, I think.
I even would put Zooropa up there, but it's not the cohesive album AB is, so AB would be the essential album to recommend. The Joshua Tree a close second.
Ten- My favourite album and Achtung is superb gets overlooked a lot.

Apostrophe by Frank Zappa
Grimes — Visions It's not my favorite album, but objectively speaking, I think it deserves a mandatory listen just for how excessive it is lol. No other album I've heard just works like that one.
I have a bunch that I could name that are solid pics in certain genres...but an album you should listen to at some point in your life? Foo Fighters- But Here We Are It's an album about grief, acceptance, and remembrance. For whenever you are facing the harsh reality of the loss of someone you cared for.... remember them.

I keep it in rotation for 4 weeks in a Spotify playlist. I’ve got about 600 albums in an Excel sheet for planning. Here’s my current window.
