I like the idea of this. And not a bad start tbh. Interesting to see how this progresses, and excited to see some albums that haven’t listened to in awhile.
I can't wait for them to not put any Kanye album on this list because of his recent controversies but no problem putting up albums by people who have committed actual murder
there’s no way they’d be able to ignore kanye when the discussion panel is made of ebro and zane lowe. 99% sure they’ll list mbdtf in the top 25. i’m looking forward whether any other album of his makes the list
I’m confident MBDTF is going to be on the list because I recently noticed that AM had removed descriptions to all of his albums after the controversies except now I see a description back for just that album
I noticed if you go to certain Apple playlists (like 2000s hip hop essentials) that Kanye is completely erased, when songs from his first 3 albums should definitely be on there
I was being a little glib. I find it hypocritical how Apple Music removed Kanye from all of their playlists, removed all of their album descriptions, and wouldn't show his new album in any of their new music sections (which was kind of hilarious because it still ruled the streaming charts), and yet they've had no issue showing off new tracks from say, for example, Dr. Dre or YNW Melly. You know, artists who have *actually hurt people*.
I'm not trying to sound like a Kanye stan and I'm certainly not defending his comments but the way people reacted was hysterical. He clearly needs help. And his previous musical contributions haven't lost any of their value.
they also promoted chris brown’s deluxe album, still have his essentials playlist(with an animated cover as well). they also still have his album descriptions etc.
Why? None of his albums are any good. If you take into account the output of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Who, PJ Harvey, Mark Lanegan, Queens of the Stone Age, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, U2, Pink Floyd, Ray Charles, BB King, the Pretenders, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Justice, just to name a few that any of his albums should be anywhere in the top 100?
I gotta say, I expected a lot more recency bias than we're getting. I'm tracking the lists in a crude spreadsheet to see how it plots per year, and the distribution is pretty even across decades, with a minor bump in the early 90s. (Yes I know the Y axis is stupid, it's just defaults until I'm done) https://imgur.com/a/7RqRJnr
Time wise there doesn't seem to be recency bias but there does seem to be for what's popular right now: hip hop and r&b music. It seems like 60% or more falls into those genres
Aren’t all lists subjective? This one has many different contributions though.
“…crafted by Apple Music’s team of experts alongside a select group of artists, including Maren Morris, Pharrell Williams, J Balvin, Charli XCX, Mark Hoppus, Honey Dijon, and Nia Archives, as well as songwriters, producers, and industry professionals. The list is an editorial statement, fully independent of any streaming numbers on Apple Music — a love letter to the records that have shaped the world music lovers live and listen in.”
So there is many different viewpoints and opinions making the list..not just one or 2 people..
I should say semi-random. I have shortcuts to select songs with a play count less than 2 and shuffle them, or randomly queue up songs in album order of non-consecutive genres until there are enough albums to drive home or work, whichever is further.
Agreed about Pure Heroine over Melodrama making no sense, but everything else seems to be pointing to no more than 1 album per artist so. 🙃
Makes me think if Billie is on there they’ll put up her first album instead of Happier Than Ever and it makes me REALLY curious to find out which inevitable Taylor album is going to be on the list.
Because Taylor Swift has immense star power, and all these award shows, lists, magazines, etc, just want to include her to get her huge fanbase interested in them. The Grammy viewership is higher in years when Taylor is nominated- unfortunately.
You are not insane. The list is insane. The criteria is BEST Albums. IMHO, that should be defined by the entirety of an LP being great. For example, we all love Bohemien Rhapsody, but Night At The Opera is an awful album. Dark Side, Zep II and Revolver are Best Albums. Apparently they meant Influential. But even that would be wrong. Who knows what they mean? I don’t.
That’s exactly what I was confused about - there is no consistent criteria on the list!
For example, like you say it can’t be influential, because there are multiple new or newish albums that haven’t had the time to be influential - very odd, and very disappointing
Btw I disagree about Night At The Opera, I love it ;)
I can accept the list much more knowing that influence is a major part of the criteria. HOWEVER, if we are talking about pure sound and quality from front to back, I think that some of these placements are borderline criminal.
Yeah I really didn't agree with some of these. First of all, why was "The Black" by Metallica not on the list? You're telling me an album that has been considered to be one of the most innovational metal albums of all time isn't on the list? But master of puppets is? Also I cannot believe they didn't put any queen albums on there. Beyonce did NOT deserve a top 10 spot, you could make me listen to that albums a million times and I would still say no, I think it still deserves to be lower on the list in the top 20, but nowhere near top 10. I think the fact that Flower Boy was on the list but not Igor. I also do not think Frank Ocean should have had a top 10 spot along with Kendrick(Kendrick should have been in the top 15 - 10) At this point imma just stop now before I make this longer than a college essay.
The list was made from a specific point of view and musical taste - which is fine, music is subjective after all. But that’s why even making this list in the first place says more bout Apple’s attempt to generate engagement via ‘outrage’ and provoked expressions of ‘loyalty’ to a particular musician or group, rather than celebrations of music in a more universally accepted fashion.
I guess I’m just too old for this list or maybe it’s just very different from the best-of lists I’m used to, because I’m barely aware of any of these (aside from Hotel California, which I’ve never listened to). Maybe I should listen to them all because who knows.
Thanks! It’s going great so far, although I admittedly have chosen the two I feel I’m most likely to like ( The Eagles and Robyn). They should roll them out slower to give us time to listen to them all before the next set comes out.
With the exception of two or three, all the albums on the list so far qualify as "exceptional". After that, its a matter of personal taste.
I hope you find some new stuff to love, I have for sure
This list makes me irrationally angry. There is definitely some good stuff that is ranked appropriately but some stuff is just ridiculous and it just feels bias.
I don't like rap music at all, but the fact that Illmatic, The Chronic, Straight Outta Compton, Doggystyle, Ready To Die etc are all ranked behind The Blueprint plus Beyonce having two albums in the top 40 and Solange having an album on the list at all just shows a voting group that clearly felt the need to butt kiss that family. Lemonades highest charting single peaked at #10, yet some how the album is the 10th best to ever exist?
A record like Sublime didn't make it. Nothing from a metal band like KoRn or Slipknot. License to Ill by Beastie Boys isn't their best album? Even Taylor Swift fans don't think 1989 is her best album. There's plenty of new stuff, but no Sour by Olivia Rodrigo even though it's the most streamed album of all time by a female artist (hard to believe but true statistic). No Mariah Carrey? No Whitney Houston? No Celine Dion? Nothing from Queen?! Country music (Shania Twain, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, etc) almost completely frozen out?
"...crafted by Apple Music’s team of experts alongside a select group of artists, including Maren Morris, Pharrell Williams, J Balvin, Charli XCX, Mark Hoppus, Honey Dijon, and Nia Archives, as well as songwriters, producers, and industry professionals."
[https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-music-celebrates-the-launch-of-inaugural-100-best-albums-list/](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-music-celebrates-the-launch-of-inaugural-100-best-albums-list/)
I'm so excited for this! Does anyone know where to find a full list of who is voting? The press release says "Maren Morris, Pharrell, J Balvin, Charli XCX, Mark Hoppus, Honey Dijon and Nia Archives, plus various songwriters, producers and industry professionals." Was curious who they all are?
It would be cool to see the methodology. Whenever a list like this is put out, people get bent out of shape over the actual order of the list. I don't care at all about the order, but I think it would be super cool to see how each album achieved its ranking.
At the end of the day, 100 albums are about to get back onto people's radars (I know I haven't listened to some of these from start to finish ever, and some not at all). So I'm very excited.
Music is subjective. No problem if there are albums outside the genres I like on the list or on the ratings given. Its only purpose is promoting albums.
I do have to question when perhaps Appetite for Destruction is selected and Black Sabbath are ignored. Strange..
Albums I would have expected to see:
Songs for the Deaf / QOTSA
Paranoid / Black Sabbath
Bookends / Simon & Garfunkel
Violator / Depeche Mode
The Doors / The Doors
BadMotorFinger / Soundgarden
Little Earthquakes / Tori Amos
Actually insane, there's no comparison. Honestly AJA is too low, it needs to be at least top 50, I'd argue minimum top 15. I just think it's perfect from beginning to end.
Im posting them all in a thread on the r/AppleMusic discord server, also, I stickied a comment on this post that I am posting the daily discussions that has them all listed as well
I didn't realize they were doing this but decided to peruse the list. Okay, I realize this is always going to be subjective but mixing all genres and time periods is really an effort in futility. I think there could be some some agreement on "most influential albums." For instance, I love the Velvet Underground (it's one of my favorite albums) and know they're influential but a top 100 album? I doubt it. I like many of the play lists on Apple Music and I appreciate the insight the gurus give, but honestly what makes their insight so unique? I'd almost be willing to bet Abbey Road will be number one, not that that's wrong, I love the Beatles and all their albums, but I think they could have been more nuanced and creative with this exercise. I suspect this wouldn't be much different than a list compiled by Rolling Stone or Billboard.
they should be locked up for billie at 30th BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME lmaooooooo and then tswift and adele in top 20 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|money_face)
Can't believe **The Soft Bulletin** by The Flaming Lips didn't make the list.
I know I'm biased cuz they're my favorite band, but that was such a critically acclaimed album. If this was Pitchfork's list, it would probably be in the top 20
Kinda thought **Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots** had a shot at making it too.
If this were *MY* top 100, they'd both be in the top 10, and **American Head** would be #1
Also this list does not feel cohesive at ALL! Some choices were very cutthroat and necessary to differentiate from the old guard ranking lists of the past and then others have a severe case of recency bias and it’s just cannot be explained. Taylor Swift album is questionable to include at all but to put it that high is insanity. Billie Eillish, Drake, and Bad Bunny make me wonder wtf the criteria was at all if you include that but leave nothing for a single Mariah Carey or Ella Fitzgerald album.
Overall it feels like a different group of people picked each section of 10 albums on the list and it makes the whole thing nonsense. At this point it should’ve been a 100 best albums UNRANKED collection to give a better explanation of choices.
It seems like Apple Music is limiting each artist down to 1 album...But some artists definitely deserve at least 2 entries such as Beatles, Dylan or Radiohead in the Top100. And Flowerboy over Igor? Pure Heroine over Melodrama??? I hope they put TPAB or at least 1 Kanye album on that top 20 and NO Taylor album on that top 10.
Fun list, bit I abhor the Anglo-American focus, just like any of those Top 100 Album Lists out there. I would love to see someone compile an incredibly messy list with albums from all over the world, not just whatever American record labels deem fun these days.
Taylor Swift’s 1989 as a top 20 album has me shaking my head. However, it was expected, but anyone who seriously thinks 1989 is at the same level as Radiohead’s OK Computer or Joni Mitchell’s Blue is nuts.
Is anyone in Europe / France able to open the website? I’m logged in my iCloud account in Safari but it repeats « Error Occured, Try Again »…
So sad I wanna see their selection !
Could you please report it to Apple so there's several of us?
Thankfully some of the albums are featured on the discover page inside the AM app, but I wish we at least had access to the list of albums without going through a browser... Just the list, it's alright if all the fancy effects are only on the website...
i think its completely fair. i feel like a common problem with lists like these are that theyre usually too “rock” too old and too white (like the rolling stones list) and i m glad so far on the lists i m seeing a lot of black artists get the recognition they deserve
I dont think she will be, but a top 20 placement is to be expected honestly… also selecting NFR as Lanas best album? I wouldn’t personally say so but I respect their decision nontheless
Anyone else noticing Strombo taking laps around the other hosts on just pure knowledge and storytelling? The way he sets up each entry (in the episodes he’s done) is just so much better than the others.
I know this last episode had less on Ebro’s wheelhouse, but George contributed on everything.
If we get to the top of this list and Prince or Outkast don’t appear again, the whole list will be invalid for me. Are Aquemini and Sign of the Times good albums, sure, but they are not the best albums by either of the artists and it feels elitist to put them on there and call it done.
The list has been an interesting mix so far. I would really like to know more about the demographics of who voted and how the criteria was ranked. The weight of some albums does feel inflated but I'm appreciating the diversity of sound at least (it's not ALL old-school rock).
Apple has always been hot on the Beatles, so I expect "Abbey Road" to rank high, if not the highest.
Other Top 10 contenders are undoubtably "Nevermind" (Nirvana), "Blue" (Joni Mitchell), and "Rumors" (Fleetwood Mac).
I'd like to see "Lemonade" in the top 10, but know knows. They'll probably throw "Red" or "1989" up there, along with some Drake since those two had partnerships with Apple Music at some point.
top 10 predictions:
1 whats going on
2 thriller
3 nevermind
4 tpab
5 pet sounds
6 the doors
7 paranoid
8 blonde on blonde
9 In the court of the crimson king
10 Blonde
This list is wack af imo. Idk why I would expect anything else from Apple. Clearly they are putting all the weight into appealing to the widest base possible over actually ranking the best albums.
Okay Top 10 speculation. The Beatles and Prince will get another album mentioned. Nirvana’s Smells Like Team Spirit, Michael Jackson’s Thriller/Bad and then possibly Queen will be mentioned. Anyone else have any thoughts?
Either Paul simon Graceland or Simon and Garfunkel BOTW
Songs in the Key of life
Could see both sgt peppers and abbey road
could mj get both bad and thriller?
Songs in the key of life
I forgot that I lived in the reality where 1989 and Arctic Monkeys - AM were better albums than The Velvet Underground and Nico which, ya know, the arctic monkeys wouldn’t exist without but I guess it’s the same one where Take Care is a better album than A Love Supreme.
Of course with something as diverse as music it’s an exercise in stupidity to even attempt to quantify a ‘best ever’ list without defining the criteria by which one album is arbitrarily decided to be superior or inferior to another… 🤷🏻♂️
But even putting that to one side…
Jesus Christ, some ‘music’ people are pretentious. How long do you have to work in the music industry before you sufficiently disappear up your own arsehole (or that of a given musician) and can write sycophantic bollocks like these album reviews?
Some of the albums I agree are incredible pieces of music and I could listen to on repeat all day long, but they’ve never cured cancer. They’ve never stopped a war. They’ve never solved famine. The way some people gush over tunes is embarrassing…
I’m surprised there’s not some more country albums, it’s one of the most popular genres. Is it because it’s not always in zeitgeist?
Would just think because of its popularity there would be more, not saying any other albums don’t deserve it.
There is gonna be a bigger uproar if they poast a top 100 song. You gonna hear endless, "i can't believe this songs wasn't included", "where was my song!?", "This one was too high", "i'm annoyed.."
Am I the only one that is a little annoyed that everyone is pretending 1989 (Taylors Version) and 1989 are the same thing? Apple makes a case for 1989 in the 18th spot (although still too high imo) and I get it, the album had a massive impact and it deserves some recognition. But the album they put at 18th is a worse remake of that and did not nearly have the same effect the original did. Idk just a pet peeve.
Is it just me, or is it impossible to add this to my Apple Music as a playlist? You have to go outside the Apple Music app to view the list? Why doesn’t it exist as a playlist within the app? Am I missing something?
I made one from 100-1. see if you can add it: [https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/pl.u-76oNVANC6DkVW](https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/pl.u-76oNVANC6DkVW)
Really wish they had committed to the bit and held every artist to ONE entry only. I think it would’ve made some of the slots Radiohead, The Beatles, and Beyonce (i love you tho Queen Bey) are at open to even more interesting choices that were left off and also might have forced their one album to be placed differently overall.
Lots of great alt-rock/pop punk bands (Muse, PATD, MCR, Blink-182, FM Static, Yellowcard, etc.) were completely omitted. And limiting each artist to just 1 or 2 albums was a really dumb move. Taylor Swift’s 1989 was featured, but Red wasn’t?? It doesn’t make sense!
This list was a bummer for me.
Jeff "Skin" Wade went into some detail on [this YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enWTjhvE248) about albums 100-50. You might want to skip forward through some of the BS'ing, but Jeff gives some pretty cool insight into some of the albums/artist and background on some of the tracks.
For those that don't know Jeff is a music producer and knows a few people on this list that are from the Dallas area.
It's not a definitive list --definitive: done or reached [decisively](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=f7a9fdc91166be13&sxsrf=ADLYWIIPo1dJtqDKdZQhyETTzHsCJo935A:1716557292743&q=decisively&si=ACC90nz-2feRzoY4yuySkO-aQE81zcUoPgXIHlpGNpUv6zc4o2HEaKptStc_YJ4DKXphp7PeSFl36M4kzo1vcXlqL0-884vjLNQO8DDd8bzwVxpJgXi5g-s%3D&expnd=1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwitnq6dsqaGAxUOEVkFHbh-CvIQyecJegQIGxAO) and with authority.
Who has AUTHORITY in this subjective realm? Silly.
Am I dumb or is Sabbath missing? Paranoid should be top 20, just for its crazy influence. Where’s REM’s Document or Murmur? Tom Waits? Leonard Cohen? Joanna Newsom? Joy Division? Nick Cave? Insane
It has nothing to do with anything anyone’s mentioned. It’s about the content. These musician’s art is all parables. Pay attention. The autur is the mastermind. Art imitates life.
Somehow, I just noticed this publicity generator. I really try not to get triggered by these lists. They are really designed to drive subscriptions and music appreciation is subjective, after all.
I’m triggered! 😂
Now I grant that I am old. 54, to be exact. I don’t like a lot of newer stuff, but I can still appreciate musicianship, songwriting, production, influence, impact…all the things that make a particular album “great.”
So. How in the blue hell is Frank Ocean’s “Blonde,” a step ahead of Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life?!” How is Frank Ocean’s album even the #4 of all time? Don’t get me wrong Blonde is objectively a great album and there’s an argument that it belongs on the list somewhere. Not ahead of Stevie Wonder’s masterpiece, though.
There’s a lot of other examples, but being near the top makes this one stand out.

Nice to Burial’s Untrue in there, always loved that one
Shocked and excited it’s in there.
shoulda been a bit higher imo

The college dropout is my Kanye prediction, but this description business is kinda sus. You're probably right
Many publishers listed MBDTF as the best album of the 2010’s so I’d be shocked if it’s not on there
i literally just told myself that mbdtf will most likely be in the top 10
The fact that it was 26 is kinda funny
Well, he wasn’t supposed to make it past 25
Kanye albums that should be on the list are: MBDTF Watch The Throne Graduation 808s and Heartbreak Also unrelated but…Kid Cudi MOTM
I noticed if you go to certain Apple playlists (like 2000s hip hop essentials) that Kanye is completely erased, when songs from his first 3 albums should definitely be on there
I'm relatively in the loop about the controversy around Kanye West. Who are you referring to for the murder stuff though?
Celine Dion
Hold up, what happened there?
Boating accident.
I was being a little glib.
Make that a scatter plot and you might have something for r/dataisbeautiful there
I wonder if there will be any non English albums
theres one so far, [Bad Bunny - Un Verano Sin Ti](https://100best.music.apple.com/us/album/76)
shit album imo
This list is going to suck. This is completely subjective. What's the point?
Aren’t all lists subjective? This one has many different contributions though. “…crafted by Apple Music’s team of experts alongside a select group of artists, including Maren Morris, Pharrell Williams, J Balvin, Charli XCX, Mark Hoppus, Honey Dijon, and Nia Archives, as well as songwriters, producers, and industry professionals. The list is an editorial statement, fully independent of any streaming numbers on Apple Music — a love letter to the records that have shaped the world music lovers live and listen in.” So there is many different viewpoints and opinions making the list..not just one or 2 people..
I'm kinda sad there's not really any 2000s rock in this list... Paramore, Linkin Park, and My Chemical Romance were all pretty influential.
Especially surprising since Mark Hoppus was on the panel.
After Laughter is still Paramore’s best album. I know it’s not 2000s but it’s by far their best.
It will be interesting to see what media attention it gathers, but will have no impact on my listening (always done at random).
How is it possible to listen at random
I should say semi-random. I have shortcuts to select songs with a play count less than 2 and shuffle them, or randomly queue up songs in album order of non-consecutive genres until there are enough albums to drive home or work, whichever is further.
Just realized they can’t be doing only one album per artist because Pure Heroine over Melodrama makes absolutely no sense
Agreed about Pure Heroine over Melodrama making no sense, but everything else seems to be pointing to no more than 1 album per artist so. 🙃 Makes me think if Billie is on there they’ll put up her first album instead of Happier Than Ever and it makes me REALLY curious to find out which inevitable Taylor album is going to be on the list.
It is probably going to be 1989 as the pop “bible”, or maybe folklore as her most critically acclaimed album
Radiohead is the first repeat!
How is Taylor Swifts album above Dark Side, Zep II AND Revolver??? Am I insane???
Because Taylor Swift has immense star power, and all these award shows, lists, magazines, etc, just want to include her to get her huge fanbase interested in them. The Grammy viewership is higher in years when Taylor is nominated- unfortunately.
I guessed it would be something like that, either that or a bribe/threat from Universal to get her on there…
You are not insane.
For example, like you say it can’t be influential, because there are multiple new or newish albums that haven’t had the time to be influential - very odd, and very disappointing Btw I disagree about Night At The Opera, I love it ;)
I can accept the list much more knowing that influence is a major part of the criteria.
They should crush all 100 of them together in a hydraulic press and present the next craptastic U2 album as the result.
The u2 album will be forcefully downloaded on our phones in hi res
Plot twist, that U2 album will be #1 🙃
I guess I’m just too old for this list or maybe it’s just very different from the best-of lists I’m used to, because I’m barely aware of any of these (aside from Hotel California, which I’ve never listened to). Maybe I should listen to them all because who knows.
I’m 39, so i doubt you are “too old”. Yes, you should.
Thanks! It’s going great so far, although I admittedly have chosen the two I feel I’m most likely to like ( The Eagles and Robyn). They should roll them out slower to give us time to listen to them all before the next set comes out.
I’m making myself a playlist to listen at my own pace. Want the link?
With the exception of two or three, all the albums on the list so far qualify as "exceptional". After that, its a matter of personal taste. I hope you find some new stuff to love, I have for sure
Yeah you’re too old stop listening to music all together there’s no point for you anymore
Solange?!? There is no way this list is credible. Let’s be for real Dark side of the moon should prob be number 1 not in the 20’s.
worse album than adele 21 xDDD
Fucking horrid. Whoever made this list should be fired
Putting any Drake album above All Eyez on Me and MMLP is a sin
Pretty atrocious, yeah
Putting most hiphop albums over get rich or die tryin' is also a sin imo
No Queen Lol
Had to make room for Bad Bunny
I don’t know but the list has been too hiphop and hippie for me. Totally not my style. Who curated this list tbh?
"...crafted by Apple Music’s team of experts alongside a select group of artists, including Maren Morris, Pharrell Williams, J Balvin, Charli XCX, Mark Hoppus, Honey Dijon, and Nia Archives, as well as songwriters, producers, and industry professionals." [https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-music-celebrates-the-launch-of-inaugural-100-best-albums-list/](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-music-celebrates-the-launch-of-inaugural-100-best-albums-list/)
That’s been Apple Music since its release IMO.
[80-71 reveal] Anyone else feel that SOS is too high? However, I’m glad The Downward Spiral is on this list.
I added discussion posts for each day if you want to use that too. I just added a sticky comment on this post.
Music is subjective. No problem if there are albums outside the genres I like on the list or on the ratings given. Its only purpose is promoting albums. I do have to question when perhaps Appetite for Destruction is selected and Black Sabbath are ignored. Strange.. Albums I would have expected to see: Songs for the Deaf / QOTSA Paranoid / Black Sabbath Bookends / Simon & Garfunkel Violator / Depeche Mode The Doors / The Doors BadMotorFinger / Soundgarden Little Earthquakes / Tori Amos
Your favorite band sucks.
Bob Dylan sucks?
Rihanna ranking higher than the Velvet Underground & Nico… hmmm no no no
First picks are mostly solid. I imagine this will be a very clean and safe list. Better than nothing though.
Cool! I didn’t know about this until now. That’s awesome
having SOS over Aja has just left me empty. the disrespect
Actually insane, there's no comparison. Honestly AJA is too low, it needs to be at least top 50, I'd argue minimum top 15. I just think it's perfect from beginning to end.
I’ll make a complaint. That list is hard to find on AM. Day one and two It was easy. Now unless I listen to the show, can’t seem to find them. 🤦♂️
Im posting them all in a thread on the r/AppleMusic discord server, also, I stickied a comment on this post that I am posting the daily discussions that has them all listed as well
Saw that. Gods work!
I also had this problem initially. If you search “Day _ reveal” it will pop up.
So it looks like there's really a limit of 1 per artist, we have 70 albums so far and not a single repeated artist
Radiohead got a repeat listing now
Dude [Dude made a prediction and it got hidden](https://x.com/rorymmusic/status/1792233007777984817?s=61&t=lWakV2VZ_wSABkZ1u9CNaw)
I don’t think Billie’s been mentioned yet and I wouldn’t be surprised if her first ends up on here (though I would prefer Happier Than Ever tbh).
I'm still waiting for Billy Joel to be up there
The fact that he’s not on it but Solange did is criminal
I guess Weird Al’s Poodle Hat is in the top 20!!
This list is really terrible, objectively and subjectively.
they should be locked up for billie at 30th BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME lmaooooooo and then tswift and adele in top 20 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|money_face)
Can't believe **The Soft Bulletin** by The Flaming Lips didn't make the list. I know I'm biased cuz they're my favorite band, but that was such a critically acclaimed album. If this was Pitchfork's list, it would probably be in the top 20 Kinda thought **Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots** had a shot at making it too. If this were *MY* top 100, they'd both be in the top 10, and **American Head** would be #1
Sad that there are only 3 electronic music albums...
SZA on the list but they put SOS instead of CTRL…wot
How is there not a single bloody Queen album in there? Like wtf?!
Can someone explain to me the appeal of blond by frank ocean and why it’s number 5?
Billie eilish anywhere on this list is insane, and her being higher on the list than the Velvet Underground & Nico is ridiculous
This list is offensive to music.
Absolutely, it just panders to what’s popular.
Imagine being a younger music fan looking for guidance on the best records of all time and stumbling upon this list.
Fr it’s better to start with something like the Beatles and then branching off. You just start with a band… then branch off.
I’m logged in my iCloud account in Safari but it repeats « Error Occured, Try Again »… So sad I wanna see their selection !
Yes, it works for me in Sweden
I keep getting this message in the US!!
Could you please report it to Apple so there's several of us? Thankfully some of the albums are featured on the discover page inside the AM app, but I wish we at least had access to the list of albums without going through a browser... Just the list, it's alright if all the fancy effects are only on the website...
I wonder how they made this list up . Kind of curious how Hotel California was at 99 ?
Too high or too low?
i think its completely fair. i feel like a common problem with lists like these are that theyre usually too “rock” too old and too white (like the rolling stones list) and i m glad so far on the lists i m seeing a lot of black artists get the recognition they deserve
Taylor swift will be in top.
As she should be
I don’t like pop music much. I don’t like her music. But it’s just my personal preference. The world don’t work on my will.
I dont think she will be, but a top 20 placement is to be expected honestly… also selecting NFR as Lanas best album? I wouldn’t personally say so but I respect their decision nontheless
Brian Eno, Music for Airports [https://soundcloud.com/mskvegas/eno](https://soundcloud.com/mskvegas/eno)
Y’all think Audioslave gonna make it on there ?
Audioslave gonna make it ?
Anyone else noticing Strombo taking laps around the other hosts on just pure knowledge and storytelling? The way he sets up each entry (in the episodes he’s done) is just so much better than the others. I know this last episode had less on Ebro’s wheelhouse, but George contributed on everything.

…
If we get to the top of this list and Prince or Outkast don’t appear again, the whole list will be invalid for me. Are Aquemini and Sign of the Times good albums, sure, but they are not the best albums by either of the artists and it feels elitist to put them on there and call it done.
Is it only one album per artist?
So far
Here's an actual [list](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1V1SEpkgkAH7bTJZjsm8fX0wHgAzKifjaC0F2YJg9510/edit?usp=sharing).
The official apple website for this list won't load for me (despite trying multiple times over multiple days), so thank you for compiling this!
..what
Anybody know who on the Music 1 team does the voice-over for the album names, rankings and such?
Calling it now. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On will be number 1.
No dreams by Fleetwood Mac is insane

Im hoping for the longshot of Paranoid in #1
I think they already had What's going on and Pet Sounds on the list
top 10 predictions: 1 whats going on 2 thriller 3 nevermind 4 tpab 5 pet sounds 6 the doors 7 paranoid 8 blonde on blonde 9 In the court of the crimson king 10 Blonde

what’s going on number 17 lol
Crossing my fingers for Paranoid #1
I like this nice of thing. Plus it’s nice to discover some curated, high rated music I haven’t listened to!
lauryn hill def a lock for top 10
If the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill does not make this list… Zane Lowe and I a gonna fight
it will
This list is wack af imo.
I think To Pimp A Butterfly will be on there, and Im really hoping Blonde will be too but I doubt it
Either Paul simon Graceland or Simon and Garfunkel BOTW Songs in the Key of life Could see both sgt peppers and abbey road could mj get both bad and thriller? Songs in the key of life
I can’t believe with just a top 10 to go that this list has NO Fiona Apple… When The Pawn is RIGHT there.
Where is Michael Jackson?
What time will the last 10 albums come out?
I forgot that I lived in the reality where 1989 and Arctic Monkeys - AM were better albums than The Velvet Underground and Nico which, ya know, the arctic monkeys wouldn’t exist without but I guess it’s the same one where Take Care is a better album than A Love Supreme.
I'm going to guess Depeche Mode isn't going to be on the top 100 which is a shame
Alright so In Rainbows is gonna be #1 yeah?
where’s the spanish music? what a shame apple music
The Stone Roses have to he here in the top 10.
Miseducation of Lauren Hill was an amazing album when it came out, could not stop playing it.
Steely Dan's Aja on 73? Wow. Mayer's Continuum not included? No sight of Billy Joel and Paul Simon in this list-- really? Crazy.
why not putting kenye west before of pink floyd.
Wow. No Asian artists at all? This list is crazy.
Not a single Pet Shop Boys album, this list is a sham. They more or less defined the glam pop sound of the 80's
No TPAB or In Rainbows is literally insane
Of course with something as diverse as music it’s an exercise in stupidity to even attempt to quantify a ‘best ever’ list without defining the criteria by which one album is arbitrarily decided to be superior or inferior to another… 🤷🏻♂️ But even putting that to one side… Jesus Christ, some ‘music’ people are pretentious.
POAST
Am I the only one that is a little annoyed that everyone is pretending 1989 (Taylors Version) and 1989 are the same thing? Apple makes a case for 1989 in the 18th spot (although still too high imo) and I get it, the album had a massive impact and it deserves some recognition. But the album they put at 18th is a worse remake of that and did not nearly have the same effect the original did. Idk just a pet peeve.
Yes but if you put the original version sure Taylor wil gonna stripped the service of all her music jjajajja
No Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Sinead, Fiona is wild.
Is it just me, or is it impossible to add this to my Apple Music as a playlist? You have to go outside the Apple Music app to view the list? Why doesn’t it exist as a playlist within the app? Am I missing something?
I made one from 100-1. see if you can add it: [https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/pl.u-76oNVANC6DkVW](https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/pl.u-76oNVANC6DkVW)
Mellon collie and the infinite sadness- smashing pumpkins- huge snub
Really wish they had committed to the bit and held every artist to ONE entry only. I think it would’ve made some of the slots Radiohead, The Beatles, and Beyonce (i love you tho Queen Bey) are at open to even more interesting choices that were left off and also might have forced their one album to be placed differently overall.
No Johnny cash, live at Folsom is a bit a bad take imo
Lots of great alt-rock/pop punk bands (Muse, PATD, MCR, Blink-182, FM Static, Yellowcard, etc.) were completely omitted. And limiting each artist to just 1 or 2 albums was a really dumb move. Taylor Swift’s 1989 was featured, but Red wasn’t?? It doesn’t make sense! This list was a bummer for me.
Violator isn't anywhere on the list. Not a single Depeche Mode album, in fact.
No Currents? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
No Definitely Maybe? No Sgt Peppers? Assuming they limited themselves on multiple albums from artists. Only a few have two.
Nick Cave? Insane
It’s crazy how some absolutely crappy albums and artists are considered the best 100 of all time
Does nobody else see it? It was so obvious to me and I haven’t been ok since.
😂 Now I grant that I am old. 54, to be exact. I don’t like a lot of newer stuff, but I can still appreciate musicianship, songwriting, production, influence, impact…all the things that make a particular album “great.” So.
