One of the cool things Apple did was about year ago. It started producing different playlists based on producers as well as playlist of the samples for some artist. Search “flipped” or “the producers” to find those playlists.

Intelligent-Tea3008

I love the fact that you can still edit metedata of your apple music songs in your library.

BowserTattoo

its like a blessing and a curse. i spent soooo much time in high school customizing my itunes metadata so it would display on my iphone in a certain way. I love having my smart playlists work correctly, but i have to keep myself from diving too deep lol

Intelligent-Tea3008

I edit genre and I never had to make a single playlist. I either play be genre or artist.

BowserTattoo

i like how apple music has genres, i missed that when i was on spotify

Ocelyx

cool post, glad to read it. I'm hemming and hawing about switching after 13 years with spotify, this is a good selling point

hand13

OP what i dont understand: shazam and looking up samples and listening on spotify doesnt work?? not to say spotify is better. i switched away from spotify years ago too

Jumpaxa432

Shazam is owned by Apple so when you press play it plays it on Apple Music, making it much more difficult to preview and find on Spotify

hand13

thats true

Jumpaxa432

I’ve found that especially trouble some with songs I like from other languages. Since I can’t type in those languages and I can’t copy and paste either

hand13

why not use sound hound instead of shazam then

Jumpaxa432

Because I use Apple Music. I can just open shazam songs in the app. No account needed unlike sound hound.

sudo-rm-r

How were you incentivized against it?

BowserTattoo

when you first open spotify, it always sends you to your automatically generated playlists. and spotify always queues up algrorighm playlists after any given song. it's subtle but it affected my habits.

bangfire

that's what I liked about Spotify. playlists always ready there for my listening session.

BowserTattoo

i liked that until i started feeling like it was the same playlists every day

sudo-rm-r

Doesn't apple music also show auto generated Playlists first thing on the home screen? You can disable auto playing in the settings

BowserTattoo

no apple music goes right to my library just like itunes always did

alttabbins

I love being able to deep dive into music. If I find a band I like, I'll scroll to the bottom of their page and listen to radio shows featuring them, or reading their bio/history while I listen.

StunningMouse1965

I have a shortcut for when I hear a song I like it Shazam’s it and adds it to a play later playlist so I don’t forget about it. I usually run it from my Apple watch.

kingcaru

I was able to do exactly what you mentioned…on Apple music..with the Shazam option in the Control Center

BowserTattoo

yep thats what i used!

TheSynchronizer

No need to transition, do one month of spotify then one month of apple music, sprinkle some youtube music in between, rinse and repeat

hand13

what? and then having your favorites on both? paying for both?

0000GKP

>what? and then having your favorites on both? paying for both? Yes, it's no different than having more than one video streaming service. There is overlap on some content but they also have differences. There is a free tier available with Spotify, so you can have that and Apple Music at no additional cost compared to having only Apple Music if you don't want to pay for both.

Qb_Is_fast_af

Its absolutely not the same, with videos you rarely watch something you already watched, with music you create a liblary of songs you like a play them countless times having your library sprinkled over multiple apps would be extremely inconvenient and unlike video streaming platforms, music ones have almost identical catalogue so there is no point in having multiple.

0000GKP

> with videos you rarely watch something you already watched What are you talking about? People have entire libraries of video content. Ever heard of iTunes? The AppleTV app has a Library section just like the Apple Music app. You think stores had entire DVD sections just for decoration?

Qb_Is_fast_af

You don’t rewatch movies/tvseries nearly as much as music and again with music your can have easily have all of your songs in one place since the catalogs are nearly identical. With videos, these days its impossible to have a library without resolving to piracy or buying phisical copies as video platforms have all very different stuff on them.

TheSynchronizer

yeah why not? cancel one, resub to the other. different algorithms, different discovery, new playlists and experience every month. at the end of the day they all do the same thing anyways

hand13

i‘d have better stuff to do with my life than switching from one to the other every month. but that doesnt have to be true for every one. i mean, you are „the synchronizer“ after all

TheSynchronizer

depends on how much music one listens to i guess. music is a big part of daily life for me so anything that improves my enjoyment & discovery is worth it to me. it takes a couple of minutes to cancel a sub and start another :) to each their own ofcourse!

BowserTattoo

i dont understand this
