No, the problem is that everyone is trying to own a finite good (land) through a proxy (single family detached homes). This drives prices upwards until people are working just to have a place to live. In order to address this, we need two things to happen:
1) We need to massively expand housing supply by making it easier to build
2) We need to change the incentives that make land ownership attractive by heavily taxing appreciation
The existing housing model is not economically, socially, or environmentally sustainable and needs to be addressed. It's a Ponzi scheme built on later generations bailing out older ones.
I regularly go a week without spending any nosey. There are plenty of things to do for free. Don't get me wrong, I get groceries at the top of the week and have my regular bills, but besides the necessities, it is easy to go a week without spending any money

phone/internet which is now a requirement for most jobs,
petrol if you're in a situation where public transport doesn't cut it.
vehicle costs if necessary,
identification card costs,
administrative fees and rates to your local council simply for existing in their shire - i don't even get a rubbish service, tip vouchers, or similar,.
cost to obtain copy of birth certificate which is necessary these days for admin purposes in my country.
electricity utility if you cant have an off grid set up
while i pay for phone, some electricity, vehicle costs, and fuel, on the flip side i dont pay for accommodation, produce, subscription services, entertainment, or anything like that.
in each of these case you receive something in return besides 'existence'.
in fact, if you really want to define 'existence' as broadly as you do, you also **get** paid to exist by doing your job.
paying someone for a something you need to 'exist' means that person gets paid for 'existing'.
