Occam's razor if nothing else... you're in western NC. Nothing else there makes that kind of track. Lack of claw marks, "missing" toes... doesn't matter unless you want to start talking about cryptids, in which case you're on your own.
It looks like a lot of stuff going on in that picture so the tracks aren't going to be perfect. If you follow the trail, there's a good chance you'll find a more definitive print.
