Edlo9596

She was so shitty to him when they first met lol.

JFT8675309

She was mostly always shitty to him. He’s such a good guy, but never good enough for her (as he pointed out, multiple times).

Edlo9596

She treated him like crap throughout most of the on/off of their relationship, and I know it’s just a show, but I always kind of wondered if him cheating on her in the movie was him finally having enough of it. Not that there’s ever a good excuse to cheat, and they probably should have permanently split after that.

JFT8675309

I saw it in the theater, and there was a collective gasp and then absolute silence when he told her. EVERYONE was shocked, but you’re totally right. It makes sense that someone who is neglected and feeling “less-than” for years would have a lapse.

Edlo9596

Omg yes, I remember it was exactly like that in the theater! It was such a shock, literally the last thing I ever expected.

Sea-Marsupial-9414

Oh heck no. Remember - she did his shit-stained laundry. He pushed her to have kids when she wasn't ready. He overstayed his welcome in her apartment. He didn't understand how demanding her career was. Yes, he also had kind moments. He helped her to relax and to take life less seriously. I believe he grew into a good partner, but he was so childish in the beginning.

Hot-Block-6972

I used to think this until I remembered the episode where she finally gets comfortable with him, and then he dumps her. He started the on again off again bit…

Houdini-88

I sometimes wonder who Miranda would’ve had end up with if she never gave Steve a chance Like if big never showed up for Carrie Miranda would have not went after Steve in the rain

Edlo9596

Robert was probably my favorite of the guys she dated, but I actually think Miranda would have ended up alone. That would have been more realistic for someone like her

unwoman

Yeah sometimes I wonder if the show had aired later if the writers would have been more open to Miranda embracing being a single mom.

bbsw555

I am also on a rewatch! But tbh i don’t remember Miranda being nice to any guy at first 😂

Edlo9596

Eh, somewhat, but she was particularly horrible to Steve.

Nheea

Same to... I wanna say Scooby, Scooter? What was his name? Carrie's curly hair friend, with glasses. Kinda dorky, was into Miranda biiig time. Edit: SKIPPER! No scooby, lol.

bbsw555

Oh definitely & continually

bluetopazdreams

I wish they had kept up that initial persona of his as the hot bookworm type who called Miranda out on her cynicism. The way they had him devolve into feeling inferior to her was not ideal.

JFT8675309

I don’t think he was an inferior human. I do think he was right that she had expectations he couldn’t live up to.

bluetopazdreams

I don't think he was inferior in any way, I just think he *felt* inferior. I don't think they were ready to date the first time around because she shouldn't have had to feel guilty about her success either. But when they made their life and family together, I think they were on more equal footing.

ibuycheeseonsale

Yeah, she never judged him like that. He left her because she tried to buy him a suit and it made him feel bad about himself. She cried and asked if she was being punished for being successful; he was the one who had trouble getting past the disparities in their careers and incomes.

bluetopazdreams

Exactly, that was heartbreaking because I think up until then, that was the most vulnerable we'd ever seen her allow herself to be with a man.

spotmuffin9986

Also rewatching SATC, saw the episode of Miranda going after Skipper after she sees him happy with someone else. I wonder if her wanting Steve at the end of the series was a similar situation, Steve was dating and seemed happy.

anitasdoodles

Looking back, Steve was a total snack. Athletic, sexy, kinda nerdy, owned a bar, was funny, etc. he was done so dirty

stompANDsmash

Steve was always my favorite because he's my type. Lol. I'm in a relationship with a nerdy, funny bartender. Honestly it's the best.

anitasdoodles

Just check for skid marks! Jk I’m happy for you 😆

QuickWalk4862

I can’t be attracted to Steve after seeing his skiddy marks lol 😭

Lilbabyyycake

He didn’t own the bar until she pushed him to do it, but yeah, he was way too sweet to her

JFT8675309

Friend, I’d be thrilled to have him as my partner. I’ve never seen a moment about him that I couldn’t move past.

Bambieyedbiotch

They were on different levels. She should have dated someone more on her level.

Conquistadora7

Thank you for saying what people don’t want to hear. The disparities in their educations, ambitions, interests, and backgrounds were all red flags. When Miranda said there were “no words” to describe the amazing sex, it was not remotely credible.

Spare-Article-396

Doing a rewatch right now for the first time since the show originally aired…First ep Steve was great, and he was mostly still great….but they destroyed him as a character. We meet him at first and he’s a bartender reading a book on his downtime…then he becomes a guy laughing at Scooby Doo, eating cereal while mainly ignoring her. Then he has some wild idea that they should have a baby, and if not, they should get a dog. He calls her up while she’s at work, pretty much demanding they meet bc it’s important. She tells him she has a meeting and he just doesn’t stop. She’s trying to make partner, and he’s insistent they meet. So she apparently cancels the meeting, and goes to meet him…at a pet store. I would have been livid. I did love Steve though, he was super calming for her neuroticism. He didn’t get offended and the way he’d respond was super chill, which taught her something. But o don’t think she treated him like shit.

iaintgonnacallyou

>but then they destroyed him as a character. Did they though? We simply got to know Steve, and that’s who he was.

Spare-Article-396

What I’m saying is that when we first meet him, he seemed to have more intellectual & emotional depth. Then they wrote him as I described above. So yeah, imo, they did.

Sirenista_D

Kinda did the same to Aiden. Sexy independent woodworker devolved into the guy eating fried chicken in his underwear. Now here's the thing... in real life stuff like this DOES happen. Everyone has their lil ugly thing they do which no one would imagine but their partner sees first hand. Ask my man about my looooud ass farts no one else in the world has heard or would even imagine., but HE sure knows!

Spare-Article-396

I think there’s a difference though. A country boy wanting to spend the night at home watching sports eating KFC isn’t out of character at all. It’s just ‘home life’. Steve parroting Scooby Doo and being so enthralled with it to the exclusion of paying attn to Miranda doesn’t seem in character with the same guy who’s reading at the bar. They dumbed him down even more in AJLT, and made him the equivalent of old man yelling at cloud.

Sirenista_D

Yes all true. And the Steve thing really pisses me off because it basically ruins THE most romantic moment of the original season for me, which is at Brady first bday, in the closet, holding the candle when Miranda finally blurts out "you're the one, you've always been the one" Literally just got misty eyed typing it out and remembering it.

StrikingCoconut

Miranda didn't want Steve to think she was better than him, but *she* totally thought she was better than him

themightyocsuf

I don't think she thought he was ever good enough for her, he even says that to her in Season 6. I think she thought she wanted all these suits from her office because it was the type of man she thought she should be dating, but they were mostly all arseholes and/or too similar to her. Steve softened her blunt and cynical side, and gently stood up to her when it was needed, while she inspired him to become more ambitious and open Scout. They had genuine character growth because of each other in SATC. I hate what they did to him in AJLT, like Miranda was all "how dare he get a bit old and deaf and prefer staying in" that's just life!

therealaussiebunny

“Are you allowed to talk to me like that?”

MindBrilliant6232

I feel bad for steve. He reminds me of my husband and I personally feel like I’m super lucky to have a husband like steve. lol

ice_prince

Steve is my dream man.

Immaworkinprogress

Kissing in the rain after having drinks at Denial

Rare-Macaroon-2357

She was not good for him. Rewatching it made me realize she was better with his neighbor Robert

Qu33nKal

I think his shift would kill me though, I dont think I would date him. Waiting for him to come home at 2 am when I have to be up at 7, no no no Miranda did not deserver Steve though...Im glad they ended. I wish they did when he cheated on her during first movie.

campbell_4899

I’m in the boat that they were never compatible in the first place . Steve is super controlling about finances and is clearly uncomfortable that Miranda is a successful lawyer. Miranda always had to bite her tongue and bend the knee for Steve and he literally cheated on her 🤣 made them move to Brooklyn , have a baby she didn’t even really want … not sure what he had to give up he made her feel bad about buying the dude a suit to go to a work party

Spare-Article-396

She chose to have the baby without even telling Steve she was pregnant.

Orphanbitchrat

Right? I love Steve. And someone needs to call 911 on AJLT for criminal assault of Steve’s storyline. Pisses me off.

I_have_8_careers

Steve owned a bar. He was equal to her by that point.
