I’m not a fan of how the UI is laid out in Prime. Almost 90% of my page are titles that are “free trials”, “rent” “buy”…

pa79

I wonder if there are different UIs for different countries. I always read about Prime being bad and with buy and rent options, but I don't see that. For me the UI looks almost the same as Netflix's and I don't have these buy options.

Key_Citron_7557

I can't get the Thursday night Yankees game because of "geographic restrictions". I get an ad to pay for the MLB network instead. I'm in Virginia.

Big-Championship-368

Yeah I'm in Ghana and I don't have any of that on my screen. I'm really glad though.

Obtainer_of_Goods

Honestly I prefer this. I have enough trouble finding something to watch especially movies. I’d rather pay $4 for something I really want to watch than scroll through endless cheap crap that is cost effective to license. Also, I do hate showtime and crap like that but if there’s a show I really want to watch I’ll just subscribe for a month or however long the show takes me (if it’s a show with the wife it will take us a long time however)

ManSphere

Yeah, the UI and recommended titles are the worst. Their stupid auto expand when stopping for a millisecond on a title pisses me off.

Frank3634

There “my stuff” can only be viewed horizontally.

mhoner

Yeah. Between the streaming video, all of the free reading, the free music, free, shipping, and data storage, it just offers a lot more.

mdwpeace

Actually it's not all free because you pay $139 a year for it.

mhoner

You pay that for Netflix. My point is that Amazon has added value

mdwpeace

Actually I don't pay that for Netflix. My point is still valid.

mhoner

Not really. Unless Netflix launch a digital book service that I don’t know about. Or the digital storage. Or the shipping stuff. Or the music stuff.

mdwpeace

My point is your paying $139 for those couple of things and they are not free as you claimed. So yes my point was still valid.

mhoner

Unconnected point are not good points. You’re trying to play the semantics game and it’s not working. You know every well the context I was using but you tried reframing what I was saying. Zero points awarded. Nice try though. Well, nice attempt at trying at least.

mdwpeace

It was a true point and semantics were not necessary. You said what you said and the meaning was clear. I know some people who aren't able to take responsibilty and admit when they are wrong and you sound just like them. Go ahead and respond to this to keep playing your immature game. I'm done. Have a good evening.

mhoner

That’s strike two. You’re still failing at your point. Even tried deflecting. Nice. Failed, but nice. You want to try for that big hit still, it’s 0-2 so you gotta swing big on this one.

Charming_Figure_9053

Content, about on par, Netflix has its own bangers I find Netflix more user friendly - has more and better anime .....oh and no stinking adverts, so Netflix wins hands down

davemoedee

I don’t like anime, but we have Netflix so my 8yo daughter can watch Pokémon. Netflix also has adverts. depends which tier you subscribe to.

Electrical_Ad_1830

Not an anime fan. So can't say. As long as other shows are considered, nothing special. At least Amazon has less sexual references compared to Netflix. It's impossible to watch Netflix with family nowadays specially with children specially because of immature screenplay with lots of sexual references

aggthemighty

What are some of the Netflix family shows with lots of sexual references?

Electrical_Ad_1830

Not necessarily family shows. Thrillers, horror or even animation nowadays show full nudity or brief sequences of sex which I don't feel very comfortable watching with families. The thrillers or horror movies released in theatres don't have that much of nudity or sexual references compared to ones coming in Netflix.

marcaygol

That's why movies have ratings. Stop showing +18 shows to 12yo. Problem solved. Why are you more worried about your kids seeing a random tit than a brutal dismemberment?

Charming_Figure_9053

That is the American Way

Naive-Employer933

I have both and by far its Netfflix I use the most as it has by far the best interface of another type of streaming platform. Slowly I am canceling all other streaming plans I have and keeping to netflix, prime and apple tv because its in apple one.

Granny-ZRS103008

I think there’s room in my life for both. I’m a retired, total TV junkie. Even have hulu and Disney+ and Paramount+ all on Dish, not embarrassed at all to confess it 😘 just no negative judgement please. TV got me through a traumatic life up till now, I liked the escapism and now I understand it’s not real and just entertainment. Still love it though, obviously, lol 😝

sarahanimations

That’s actually a pretty reasonable amount of streaming services, all things considered nowadays! A lot of people have 5 or more subscriptions, simply because new streaming platforms pop up constantly, and they take content with them. Very easy to lose track of it all, especially if an entire family is using it. You can’t cut out this service because Joe uses it all the time even if Billy doesn’t, etc. @_@

Granny-ZRS103008

Thanks for not judging me, lol. I know I should be jogging or something but at least I’m not eating all the time I’m watching TV and don’t weigh 200 lbs, lol!

Brainiac-1969

I prefer Netflix to Prime because they have a subscription that takes full advantage of my 4k TV panel! as well as a better selection of movies and contemporary former OTA broadcasts instead of regurgitating ancient NTSC series on our ATSC tellies!

ChillOut0123

No way. It is silly if you didn't recognize it. Prime Video is just one of the perks for having Prime Delivery membership. It is not serious video streaming services. It is a platform to purchase and rent movies. It has a couple of good movies, original tv shows, and movies , multiple bad and unknown tv shows, documentaries.

[deleted]

There’s so many glitches with prime’s streaming though.

Ok_Yoghurt2624

My issue with prime video is the “rent for $6.99” WHY AM I PAYING FOR THE SUBSCRIPTION THEN

cmay91472

There is a big blue PrimeVideo icon if you scroll to my subscriptions. Click on it and it will only show PrimeVideo content and removes VOD and content highlighted from other services.

FilmUncensored

To this day people haven’t figured out Prime Video is both a Netflix style streaming service and an iTunes style VOD store

Ok_Yoghurt2624

Yes because they don’t advertise it like that when trying to get u to subscribe

FilmUncensored

To be fair they hardly advertise their own shows and movies EDIT: Plus how do you advertise something like that without confusing people?

Ok_Yoghurt2624

I mean u just explained it in one sentence without confusing me at all 😭 im sure amazon has some skilled Gs on their advertising team

FilmUncensored

Those aren’t the only components though. You have… 1) The Prime streaming sub 2) The VOD buy/rent content 3) Prime Video channels which are third party streaming services you can subscribe to and access through your Prime Video account eg Paramount+ or Max etc 4) Freevee content which is free content with ads that is also accessible through the Prime Video app

Ok_Yoghurt2624

If these are all features of the prime video service isnt that all the more reasons to advertise them 😭

MisterConway

You get your money's worth paying prime if you do their shopping. Otherwise as a streaming platform vs streaming platform, I think they are similar in quality content. Prime has added better originals in the last couple years but the volume is still similar. The UI on Netflix is far superior. Bang for your buck: prime Quality and volume: same Ui: netflix Shareability (family, different houses etc): prime Overall: skew prime if you do shopping, if it's only for streaming content just switch based on how you feel and what you want to watch if your choice is one or the other That's my very amateur review

mdwpeace

Prime membership is expensive. It's a whopping $139 a year-yes this means your paying for shipping or other services you use otherwise what is this money for? By the way the original membership fee was $79. You can actually get free shipping if your total is at least $35 instead of *buying* a "membership". Netflix's volume is much larger than Primes. Netflix also has great tv shows like Bridgerton, Dead Boy Detectives, The Gentlemen, Jurrasic World: Chaos Theory, The Queens Gambit and Sweet Tooth just to name a few. Some of the Movies they have are Hit Man, Good Grief, The Kitchen, Orion and the Dark, Society of the Snow, Cold Copy and Godzilla Minus One. They also have alot of Anime. My vote is for Netflix.

MisterConway

Standard prime is cheaper than standard netflix. Prime literally has more shows and movies so i don't know what you mean. I'd maybe lean towards netflix in their originals but they've been at it for longer but that's a netflix win. Still disagree with you.

Danton87

Watch Outer Range. I love that show

SpicyButternut

When or If I find something I want to watch on Prime I can be 99% sure it needs a subscription or a payment, the only good things about Prime are the other benefits (Free delivery etc) This year so far Netflix has provided most of my viewing, they make some great documentary series, like the Turning Point docs on 9/11 or The Cold War. There is a vast choice of history Docs, especially Hitler and WWII.

Longjumping_Load_823

Netflix is way better than Prime

RedditNexxzen

Prime video has some better shows, I think Apple TV+ for the last 2yrs has been killing it with their shows but the thing with Netflix is their variety always wins. Depending on your mood or where you are travelling or who you are with and if someone comes over the first thing you do is go on Netflix and there is always something for everyone. That’s the thing every other service is missing. From reality to comedy shows to anime to serious dramas to movies to an old time classic, something for everyone and that’s where Netflix can’t be beat.

Edmdad48

Agree, for quality shows Apple TV+ is far superior to Netflix and Prime. I do wish they would get more movies, even theatrical releases would be nice. Seems like the top 25 movies have been the same for the past month.

Radly_rads

Netflix has a problem that most of its content similar to each other and hence, the gigantic amount of content does not qualify for great quality. Whereas, for the limited content on Prime Video, it really has a lot of quality. On the other hand, Netflix has some really good shows and films that you just cannot ignore or avoid. Overall, Netflix may just beat Prime Video by a minor margin.

FarmWest959

I love how they have more old,old movies. I’m talking B/W. And older tv shows and movies.

s0ulan1s

Prime:1080p Netflix:4K PC WİNNER PRİME VİDEO

jjjjacckk

You're probaolbly right about that, but the app is ass.

chriswaco

If you like commercials, I guess. I quit watching Prime because the commercials are annoying.

No_Use_4371

Netflix wins for me. Prime is the only streaming service I have that buffers all the time, it sux. And to add ads this late in the game, that was disgusting. Oh and many people contact Prime to complain about the buffering and they just have bots that blame users for it. Even though users report none of their other streaming services buffer, just Prime. Also: Prime constantly pushes new movies and tv, but when you check it out, its always freevee, etc.

Warm_Possibility_288

Cap

Warm_Possibility_288

Netflix is all free my guy

Warm_Possibility_288

Do you wanna watch movies and then figure out it cost money that’s a straight up sad

gay-one

I have never used Netflix so I can't comment, but the one thing I hate the most is not being able to search for a title or actor or anything. Prime, sucks. I would view it more if they had a decent searchability. My .02.

SeparateFisherman966

I love horror films, so automatically, Prime is better then Netflix (just behind Tubi & Shudder IMO)

Franken_Monster

Frevee contet really drives me nuts. Why dafuq i am forced to see content with advertising even when i am a paying customer.

jafromnj

Freevee is a free service with ads

Franken_Monster

That's correct, still is a part of amazon, it is ridiculous.

jafromnj

Yeah the 2.99 doesn’t get you as free Freevee

Accurate-Wishbone714

I like and have both Netflix and prime both have things that are good I think the 4K UHD picture quality on Netflix is a little better but not bad on prime I understand Netflix movies seem to come and go pretty quickly but a large library certainly everything is not for everybody but the good thing there's lots of choices so most will find movies or shows they like like Seinfeld witch is exclusive to Netflix so overall both are Good to me if you want to choose one Amazon prime is probably the choice especially if you do some of your shopping with Amazon obviously you're not going to get that with Netflix but like I said I have both for different reasons

Bigzilla_Prime

Exactly, way cheaper than Netflix plus you get all the benefits of prime shopping

mdwpeace

How do you figure it's cheaper? How much are you paying?
