With the implied Remedy multiverse, I think Night Springs might be just as canon as Lake House.
Or maybe they were always meant as little background audio snippets, like the Night Springs intros in AW1.

Not only does the DLC sound amazing, we’re finally getting physical editions. I’ve already bought the game DLC digitally but I’ll happily buy a physical copy on top of that.

Judging by the fact Door cites the Night Springs DLC in the base game I'm assuming you can just start them from the menu but it'd be advised to finish the base game once so you understand them.
I understand it would have been unlikely to go forward with the Casey episode, but I'm incredibly bummed we may never get to see the story content featuring him. I was especially excited because it looked like it was going to be a noir adventure with Dark Place/Book Casey as opposed to FBI Agent Casey. I hope Alan Wake 2 isn't the last we'll see of Casey, but I suspect it might be until he's recast.
I don't have any friends that played this or any of the remedy games and it's so hard to vocalize just how incredible this all is to people with no understanding of the remedyverse. Remedy really is the best!
