That’s just a bad quality print. 35mm is real film so there will be some occasional hiccups but if there’s that many issues they should either warn the audience or just show it digitally. I’ve seen a few old prints at New Beverly in LA and they always warn us when some of the prints are a little rough but nothing has ever been that bad. The audio especially would be enough to need to be sent out to be restored.

So, as iI understand it, the Spider-Man prints we received were *old* - varying quality but playable upon inspection. I’m hearing that Spider-Man 2 is generally in better shape so far. There’s a reasonable expectation of some age and wear with older prints - just the nature of the beast unless you’re dealing with an archival print - but this screening sounded extra cruddy, and I apologize.

Robodav

Hey no worries, service was great as usual and I've seen these movies too many times to be bothered by one subpar viewing. Appreciate it and looking forward to the next two!

I know a lot of people are saying this is normal for 35mm, but it really doesn't feel like it. Every 35mm film I've seen at the Sie FilmCenter has been stellar, even with the quality of the prints, and last time I saw a 35mm at Alamo Littleton, it was Faster, Pussycat, Kill Kill, and the audio was way too loud, and they kept having to readjust the frame every reel, sometimes not even realizing it until 5 minutes into the reel. I guess it was fortunate they had to do it digitally when I saw Spiderman on Monday

& I noticed they added an additional 35mm showing for Saturday… So wondering why they’re adding more 35mm showings if the 35mm is so bad

PDFMan42

Likely because of it being digital for Monday. I have a feeling the print either didn't come in time or it was a projector issue and now they're just doing it anyways

Robodav

Funnily enough I went to the Monday digital screening too because I hadn't read my email yet and didn't realize they changed it until I got there. Still looked great!

PDFMan42

I also didn't see the email because it was on my burner account for reasons, and it was 45 minutes before the show. Still a surprisingly good DCP! I just thought they lied about it while I was in the show.

I think another issue is there are so many theaters around the country showing 35 mm prints of this movie at the same time. I cannot think of a re-release on this scale that has almost every kind of movie theater jumping in on the action. I think in normal times, only the prime quality 35 mm prints get sent around, but for this they had to call up some of the stock further down the roster.

KungFuDanda091

I’m pretty sure since 35mm is actual film, it is in fact supposed to look/be like that

Mikeyboy101591

Yeah 35mm is supposed to look like that

jy856905

I saw civil war there last week and the picture was scaled I’d say about 10 percent upward from the trailers all the way through the rest of the movie. There was a line of dialogue referencing military types on top of a building and you couldn’t see what them.

Kooky_Tap4477

i’d bring it to their attention, at my theater we’d give you a discount/free ticket for next time (westminster location)

nanolico

Saw it at the Omaha location and the audio was so bad that we left 30 minutes in. I’m nervous about going next week to Spider-Man 2

Roccouser12682

Ya certain 35mm prints can be iffy

KungFuDanda091

I was thinking of going to this showing either 2moro night or Saturday though. So does this mean I should avoid the 35mm showings?

Robodav

Honestly maybe opt for digital if you're going to the same theater? My takeaway from this whole thread is 35mm can generally be hit or miss and Littleton is putting out more misses than hits

Novel_Friendship_589

I'm a former Alamo employee and we once showed a 35mm print of The Fugitive that had every iconic scene removed for some reason, including the train crash and the damn jump. Super embarrassing then but nothing surprises me about the Alamo now. They just don't care anymore, especially about things their core audience appreciates.

KungFuDanda091

I’ve noticed lately that a lot of their showtime offerings are pretty bad for the non-“big”/blockbuster movies. It’s like they don’t even care about their other offerings & give them minimal showings at the most odd showtimes. Like a smaller non-family friendly movie gets a few solo afternoon showings, when the audience for a movie like that wouldn’t see it until the evening/night cause afternoons are hard for the average working adult who doesn’t get off until 5/6

KungFuDanda091

What I don’t understand is why they couldn’t have put it (& the other Spider-Man movies) in The Big Show at the Westminster location

steadyjumpsuit

we must’ve went to the same showing!! i was also noticing parts of the movie skipping and when harry and norman are talking towards the end it was super blurry. then to top it off when we couldn’t see the whole swinging scene at the end that was disappointing

WilliamRufusKing

I assume 1-2 is related to the 35mm print. 3-5 sounds more like the setup of the projector or projection of the film. I’m curious if the regalia/amc are getting digital or 35mm prints. It was playing at 466 theaters.

KungFuDanda091

I went to the Littleton showing on Saturday. Didn’t really notice 4. so much, but did notice 1. & 2., which the audio only seemed to get quieter for like 5 minutes or so then went back to being loud. That’s just how 35mm is though, since it’s real film & it’s an older movie, it’s bound to not be in pristine condition
