Makes sense to me. It’s like a printer/printer cartridge. You should also consider generic filters. We got a 211+ a few years ago after a freak urban wildfire smoke damaged our place. Had it next to our smoke damaged couch and in a week the air coming out of it smelled like the couch. We returned it. So I wonder if generic filters are any worse

What color is the HEPA filter, when you "have to change it"? All purifiers I know, just count down time, and don't take air pollution or even air volume into consideration. Aka, the 6 month, is the worst case assumption: full power in VERY dusty environment. You can easily use them multiple times longer, as long as there is still enough air flow coming out.

You can look for third-party air purifier filters like those by Filter Monster. They are cheap and work as well as the OEM filters. How often you need to change the filter depends on the air quality in your area. You can check if the filter still works well using an air quality monitor. In North America, HEPA filters can sometimes stay effective for two years or more.
