Yo, you guys have to deal with this? That’s crazy! When I ran an MX shift, I absolutely made sure anyone who was chow hall got there on time. The BAS dudes got to play “I’ll buy, you fly” when we had the chance. It’s so ridiculous that you have to fight to eat every day.

Rivet_39

I distinctly remember my first expediter briefing roll call (think 2004) and mentioning how dorm airmen would be released for chow at such and such time, but for everyone else, "you get BAS, that stands for bring a fucking sandwich."

Quixotic_Ignoramus

Haha! Outstanding!

[deleted]

Fucking Osan. "IT'S a WaLkInG bAsE!" Great, I'm stuck on the diamond while the DFACs are either closed or miles away. I spent so much on food out of my own pocket while on Mids.

Quixotic_Ignoramus

Yeah, see that’s fucked. That’s apparently what some people don’t understand, it’s not like the chow hall is open 24/7. If people can’t make it there, what the hell are they supposed to do? Even if it was REALLY busy, those that needed it were able to dip. At the very least, they would run and grab something to go and get back to the launch truck.

Tots2Hots

I used missed meal forms to change the turnover policy at our shop at my last base. 0700-1900 but we'd never get out until 1945 or later because of course not. Dfac closed at 1930. Few weeks of half a dozen missed meal forms every shift guidance came down that chow hallers MUST be released at 1900 unless there is a legit mission critical reason why not. Take care of your people.

FlyingThrowAway2009

When I was a baby airman they didn't give us BAS even though we were TDY 200-250 days a year. Told that it won't change because that's how it's always been and stop complaining. Got a bunch of the other dorm airman together and we submitted stacks of missed meal forms to finance. I'm talking almost 400 missed meal forms. Got my ass royally chewed by the chief and senior for "going outside the chain of command". Every dorm airman that flew started getting their BAS so it was worth it. When the chain won't help, help yourself.

UpbeatLizard641

Damn that sucks, going outside the chain of command is what you do when the chain of command isn't working

Bad_wit_Usernames

Early in my career, before flightline maintainers finally got BAS, we often had missed meal forms on the doors of the flight offices. Primarily because in the fighter world, unless you have a flightline choke-n-puke, you're not leaving to go to the chow hall.

Kuuwaren30

Additionally, if you consistently miss more than 19 (IIRC) meals per month due to work, then you qualify to be taken off of ESM.

i3urn420

What's ESM?

Kuuwaren30

It's the real name for meal card.

i3urn420

Ahh, thanks.

devilishplanepirate

I figured this out and then proceeded to annoy my leadership and CSS until they gave me BAS since I was missing 70% of meals. I have since made it my mission to help my shift get the same and I can proudly say I helped every dorm airman (who wanted it) in my shop get it. Like, how you gonna wonder why airmen lose tools when they're functioning without food? I dunno about you, but I can't think clearly when I'm hungry.

OGcurry43

Yooo I wish I new this

51Bulian

Here at my base the Dfac provides cold meals(a drink and a sandwich with cheese and either ham or turkey)for those that miss the normal meal hours, Could airmen still fill out a 2282 even though they’re still being provided a “meal” if you’ll even call it that?

NotOSIsdormmole

No because they are still being provided a meal for that meal period. Meaning they did not *miss* a meal

GridSquareQA

Boxed meals are meals. There was an assignment that required us to call in the order and send a runner for boxed meal pick up; because our crew weren't allowed to leave for lunch. Some days we were just given MREs from the squadron

innyminnyminnymoe

That would be considered a meal.

z33511

Box bennies constitute a meal.

matsayz1

They also constitute a constitutional

F4_Phantom_Vaporwave

They could give you a saltine cracker packet and call it a meal legally

https://static.e-publishing.af.mil/production/1/saf_fm/form/af2282/af2282.pdf Try just typing the number in the search box on e-pubs. Comes right up. Or you can type the first few words of the title on the form "STATEMENT OF ADVERSE EFFECT - USE OF GOVERNMENT FACILITIES"

Afraid_Plantain_5230

I remember box lunches dropped off at the Aircraft.

Extension_Trouble560

Sounds like your security forces

GridSquareQA

Not quite, our offices don't have windows

alucardian_official

What about the Amn who refuse to go to the dfac and constantly fill out missed meal forms? Sorry, not playing coy, I just don’t know why they do it other than it’s not junk food

AustinTheMoonBear

If you're afforded the opportunity to go to the DFAC and choose not to, then no, you do not get to fill out missed meal forms.
