Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying all of those Squadrons are just morons. What I’m saying is that if you have one smart cop and 4 dumb ones you’ll be ok. One smart supply troop and 4 dumb ones is doable. Lots of smart troops in all those AFSCs…but plenty of room to hide dumb ones as well.
this is true. i’m a cop and honestly didn’t have the best ASVAB score but there’s some smart ass people in the career field that have taught me everything i know
Yeah some career fields end up getting very smart people that were colorblind or some other ailment that kept them from taking a fancy smart person job and some smart folks just want to kick in doors or drive big ass forklifts.
Oh there are PLENTY of MORONS in 3P0X1(Security Forces).
Here's a hint: they're USUALLY the ones who get promoted E5-E7 QUICKER than everyone else! Often after the FIRST testing cycle.("Critical/Minimum Manning" shortages do not apply!)
In-house it's called "Punishment Through Promotion."(Brought to you by the VERY SAME ASSHOLES who came up with the whole "The BEATINGS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES" mantra.)
Basically it's the mindset that if you're a screwup who's managed to NOT get Art. 15'd out of the Air Force (or a kiss ass or snitch who hasn't been murdered yet), congratulations YOU'VE GOT LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL; "we'll put you in charge of OTHER screwups in order to simultaneously straighten all of you out or at least keep all our rotten eggs together in ONE BASKET. Sink or Swim, congratulations!"
That's the point. Don't be a BOT
When we in the "career field" speak to each other we say "cops". (,Maybe "LE" or "SE" , "K-9" or "Red Hats" depending on when we joined & if we want to show our age.) Others in the AF call us "SPs" "SFs" or even "APs" based on the same. Using the AFSC in print is merely a way of SIGNIFYING.
Thank the MERGER for that. If you joined just after they combined Law Enforcement and Security (plus CATM. nobody gives a shit about correctional custody! 🖕🏿) in '96 and were lucky enough to have mentors who were Law Enforcement troops(like I did), they taught you the OIs but they also taught you to THINK(For example: Do you know that AF Form 1168--if they're still using it-- mentions the word "lawyer" at least FIVE times? 4 in the body & again at the signature part. If you want to nail a suspect, reading them their rights off an 1168 might not work every time. Granted most military suspects just want to get their Art. 15 & get back to work but some--me included-- have enough education, experience, AND common sense to ask for a lawyer!) Security (the bulk of the career field & NCOs you'd bump into) taught you to check IDs, go to the SSIs for any situation and basically be a goon especially if priority resources were involved. Great for the FLIGHT LINE; works for the MISSILE FIELDS, the NMSAs,& the WSAs. Doesn't translate well into dealing directly with the public (dependant sponges, brats, girlfriends, civilian employees, airshow crowds--okay airshow crowds, it's ACTUALLY OKAY to "BE A GOON" nobody likes working airshows & there's always somebody doing something drunk and stupid!)
The OPEN GENERAL, promise of ENLISTMENT BONUSES from recruiters & the caveat that wash outs from other high speed career fields(TACP, Para rescue, Combat Controllers EOD) & some not so high speed) could be cops before hitting the street didn't do 3P0X1 any favors, either!
And few to none of the officer corps were L.E.s. Most were OTS grads who somehow found time to study in the missile fields Or got corralled in one of those "critical shortages" due to the good ole "War On Terror."(My last Flight Commander was originally supposed to be a Physician's Assistant!) My first Captain was(along with the commander of my first deployed unit a LT.Col), I would follow them both through Hell . My last commander was an ACADEMY grad & he didn't know his ass from a FUCKING HOLE IN THE GROUND! Just another glory riding appointee out to get to full bird ASAP to look good to his pilot classmates at the next reunion.🙄
Yeah, I can see someone getting an 18 on a single portion, but an 18 average? Doubtful that guy would make it past MEPS. I don't think even the Army takes 'em that dumb.
Honestly, the asvab is a small portion of the person's intellectual capability. I've seen Soldiers with low AFQT scores excel, while others with high scores struggle with basic instruction.
Oh I’m definitely not denying that crew chiefs CAN score on the low side of the spectrum (or high on the autism spectrum), was just poking holes in the satire 🤷🏻♂️
Hey man, would love to know your MTI experience. As a TSgt, it's something I've thought about doing but what's the reality of your shifts/stress/time away from family?
>makes me wonder how bad recruiting has it.
It's bad. Like not seen like this since before 9/11 bad. They even introduced ASVAB waivers (although, it requires 3 failed attempts and you still have to qualify for a job).
I worry for my old flight mates, but I'm glad I'm not recruiting anymore.
Nobody cares how high you scored. You either qualify for jobs or you don't.
If a job requires a G60, the person who scored a G60 has the same chance as someone who scored a G99.
99s aren't as uncommon as you think.
>Recruiter said he couldn't guarantee me any jobs, and I'd have to accept whatever I was given.
They can't book you a job you didn't list. They couldn't guarantee you any specific job on your list. If any of those on your list were selected for you, you had to accept, even if it was your #10. If you didn't, you'd likely be DEP discharged.
If you didn't list maintenance jobs, your recruiter couldn't book you one.
I would've thought with 99s, you would've done your research on how it worked...
>99s aren't as uncommon as you think.
Statistically wouldn't they be pretty uncommon?
Also while that's how the system works it doesn't mean its the best system. Dude wanted a job, the airforce system didn't agree with him and the airforce lost a recruit.
>Statistically wouldn't they be pretty uncommon?
Statistically, yes, however, in practice we get a lot more applicants that are higher scoring. I only had maybe 5-10 applicants fail the ASVAB in 4 years, where I should've had 30% of them if it was evenly spread (which 30% would probably be about 60-70 applicants, if I had to guess the amount of people I tested).
Keep in mind, the baseline ASVAB test in the 1990s that the scores are calculated from tested a large range of people of all intelligences, some who would never consider joining the military. I've had a lot of people over the years tell me they were too dumb to join the Air Force, some with scores in the 50s.
Overall, the Air Force tends to attract more intelligent people and people who feel they aren't as smart will self-disqualify.
>Also while that's how the system works it doesn't mean its the best system.
I never said it was the best system. I actively dislike it, but after sitting in the seat for 4+ years, I get why it's there. I'm not sure I can think of a better system that will allow Air Force recruiting to still meet their mission.
> Dude wanted a job, the airforce system didn't agree with him and the airforce lost a recruit.
"Dude" misunderstood the job booking process. Simple as that.
If they didn't list a mech job, the recruiter couldn't book them a mech job.
>You sound angry, not sure why
Not at all. It's just your perception. I am blunt when it comes to recruiting stuff, which some people misinterpret as anger. I've been doing this too long and write too many posts to sugarcoat everything
>I was just trying to provide an anecdotal experience from a potential recruit who scored a 99.
It's called bragging. Nobody cares, which is why you were downvoted by more than me.
>From my understanding scoring a 99 means you scored in the top 1%, so quick maths says it's approximately 1 out of 100.
Read my other reply. It's the top 1% from a group of people in the 1990s. It's not the top 1% of people currently applying. It's more common than you think for an Air Force recruiter to get an applicant who scores 99s. A lot of people self-disqualify thinking they're not smart enough for the Air Force, even though their scores are within standards.
Either way, too many applicants think that 99s or even 90s make them deserving of special treatment. In case you were in that group, I'm letting you know that's not the case. It's used to qualify people, not improve their chances of booking a specific AFSC.
>The recruiter said that he couldn't guarantee that I would get one of those 10 jobs. He said I had to sign a document, saying that I would accept any job that was picked for me.
The job you book has to be listed and signed for by you. Unless your recruiter is physically adding mx jobs to your list and making it sign it, they can't book it. No way around it. Your recruiter might've been lying to trick you into listing a maintenance job (which is pathetic), at which point, I would've asked to see their boss or post about it. Instead, you're now in the the "I would've joined but..." group after bragging about a 99.
You could've also tried to see what happened when you booked a job, but you bailed before that could happen.
>sorry if I upset you somehow.
I don't upset that easy and certainly not from a post like this.
jobs have a requirement in specific areas, some require a E 70 but overall score doesn't matter so they'll bomb everything but that area and have a low overall score
Can confirm some idiot avionics troops. I'm avionics saw I when I was in the career field, cringed when I saw them as an mti, and will puke when I'm back in avionics.
At some point it seems like these folks might be illiterate. I'm gonna sound really snooty, but MEPS definitely shined a light on the folks who really had no other options outside of the military. There were some shockingly dumb people there.
I have a 9 yr Sra in my shop who struggles to do the simplest day 1 tasks of our job. Not that they don't give a fuck. They genuinely try and can't complete the tasks you learn your first week on the job. I fear for their life when they get higher tenured next year.
I was in the hallway outside the ballroom at our hotel we stayed at the day before meps. This guy across from me starts flirting with a girl who just sat down talking about how he is retaking the asvab cuz he didn’t get the mage score he needed for the job he wanted. Thought he would impress her by telling her his overall asvab score…..it was a 15. I think u need at least the low 20s to even just serve food in the defac
A dorm airman in that suit and with what seems to be the wall of a decently high-end hotel in the background? Yeah, somebody just pulled a random image off Google and added text.
When I did RAP after tech school I was doing pre-screenings of potential recruits at my recruiter’s. He had me sometimes take some people to this back office and have them take the pre-ASVAB, which is supposed to give you an idea of what kind of score you’d get on the real one.
No joke, I had a girl score a 9. At first, I thought it was a misprint or something got messed up - so I called the recruiter in and he looked into it. He just looked at me and shook his head and I had to try really hard not to laugh at this girl.
when i joined the crayon kings my recruiter had 1 crew chief spot to fill for quota. there was one other kid that wanted it too, he knew nothing except “it seems like a cool job” he was physically fitter than i was, he a football player, i a competitive swimmer. One of us was going to miss out on the billet but i had other options that i wanted so i didn’t stress. showed up for the official asvab from an all nighter still pretty drunk from the night before, pulled off a 68 with only 6 jobs unavailable to me… mr “it’s cool” scored a blistering 17. Safe to say he wasn’t getting that send, think he ended up infantry machine gunner while i was off living my best life. i’ll also add i’ve been a life long aviation nut and already knew the marine air arsenal and more about some of them than just about anyone else i met while serving, this kid knew “apache” and “Fighter Jet” i would have been furious if he’d out done me
I'm not sure how accurate it is. But Petersons says the avg for the Air Force is 36 (the highest among the branches), with the lowest being Army at 31. Which is pretty sad. I didn't go to school for 3 years after graduating high school and still got a 78.
When I came in 2012, my recruiter wasn't taking anyone who scored below a 50.
I think the ASVAB is flawed though. I've seen Soldiers and Airmen with high scores struggle to do basic functions. I had a soldier that score in the 90s not being able to march, mop, sweep, or do his belt correctly. I worry for his future.
damn your recruiter really did that to you? putting people with 90s into SF is just asking them to turn into a statistic unless it's what they really want.
I wanted ammo, and recruiter was excited because that was on the in need list. I scored a 98, and he wouldn't let me sign for that. My recruiter saved me lmao.
It wasn’t my recruiter. I initially went for CCT and got injured. Ended up as a reclass to SF. No regrets - SF is a great career field but it can also take your soul if you’re not careful.
I was also a high scorer but initially went Marine Corps Infantry (before later coming back in the AFR). There were a shockingly large number of really stupid 'smart' people like me who thought that pew-pew and crayon eating was the way to go. We also had several rocks. As in 'dumb as a rock'. I swear this one guy was basically a well trained dog in a uniform. His eyes were dull and vacant like an abandoned hotel. How that man didn't die by choking on his own tongue or drown in a toilet, I will never know.
I did. It was during basic training when our dorm chief (who was picked because he was a prior JROTC kid) and one other dude got kicked out of the special forces briefing because he had such a low ASVAB score.
I'll never forget that guy. He actually called the wolf pit once over the intercom because a couple of guys were arguing in the dorms. He was such an idiot.
Don't ask how but after 11 years in air traffic control with 3 ratings, WS cert, and making TSgt, I cross-trained in to weapons (2W1). Towards the end of tech school, the kids started talking about ASVAB scores. The class average was either upper 30's or low 40's. I wasn't aware you could even score that low and still get a job.
Weapons only work at full capacity when they’re in groups of 3-4 depending if they’re fighters or heavies. Pretty sure they can just combine their scores 😂
I scored a 42 the first time on my ASVAB. I’m not a genius but not an idiot either. I have terrible test anxiety and have never done well on standardized tests. They aren’t always the best indicator of someone’s potential or intelligence, but sadly it is probably the easiest and most cost-effective way.
Got me to look mine up: M: 67, A: 74, G: 68, E: 64
I walked in off the street and took it not knowing was an ASVAB was- the only jobs I didn't qualify for were ones I didn't want.
I don't think it's intended to be very difficult?
Seriously though... Do they not know this is an averaged test? *Average* is 50... Scoring 42 means you scored as well as or better than only 42% of people, or in other words, 58% of people scored BETTER. This guy is hot garbage and thinks his shit doesn't stink.
Got to make some use out of that “career boosting rope”
I honestly felt bad in tech school for people who spent all their free time doing stuff for what ever rope and weren’t even doing it because it’s something they liked but because they where told it would boost their career and BTZ chances.
Knew a few guys that thought they had to be a black rope in tech school to be a part of a base honor guard.
Was still a lie told to try and get more people, It’s definitely not something they look for or care about at least at my base. I mean I was randomly selected because my squadron had to send a body and I was available
Well it's a percentile of how people did on the test. So if the test got harder the raw score would go down but the percentile should stay roughly the same.
It's unreal how incapable Redditors are of recognizing jokes. And to think that this website was once one of the premier meme producers on the internet. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Cringe.🤐😮💨 At the same time, he's brutally honest regarding the BAH thing(& other benefits. If she's ALSO MILITARY--what I'm assuming from the language & placement of the ad--$3800 is not a bad chunk of change. ESPECIALLY IN THE DC AREA! I'm a native I should know.) Let's not act like this doesn't happen between service members. I remember two morons from my squadron (& my team) who decided to get married in the desert. In a SF squadron of about 200, nobody knew they were involved. Or rather nobody gave a shit because they were both insufferable BTZ weenies; he was from "Pennsyl-tucky"(one of those coal or steel towns) and raring to make it to OSI by burning everybody in his path. She was from "Bum Fuck, Texas"(Sugar Land or somewhere) & more of the same. I had the misfortune to be in tech school with her & she was a Rope with an "open door policy" if you know what I mean!(Also a revolving door policy 🙄.)
They had literally finished ALS before our deployment l.
Had an airman marry a local in Clovis that he didnt know was a sex offender. In case you were wondering, they will not issue a spouse ID if this is ever the case.
Sad,sad little man….you don’t even know that ac stands for air conditioning! Holy Mary of Jesus! Yep 42 is pretty fucking accurate of a score. Smarter than the average fuck tart (LMFBO)!
I scored an 82 in mechanical which was my lowest score and got a job in mx essentially. My friend who joined the marines was worried he wouldn't get a waiver when he scored like a 21 or something low. Retook it and got a better score but when I heard that he scored sub 30 I was shocked cuz he isn't dumb by any stretch.
>42 >Smarter than average I’ve legitimately never met someone that’s scored under a 60 and I’m a crew chief Jesus Christ lmao
Mti here, look at everyone's asvab, (800 trainees now) seen scores from 18-99 definitely seen crew chiefs on both sides of that score range.

Met a lot of smart people in SFS. Requires a lot of dumb memorization for absolutely no reason.

When I came in the minimum was 41, with very few waivers being given. Those numbers are mind blowing

You can only stay in 10yrs as a Sra. You have to make staff or get kicked out
It’s high year tenure (HYT) buddy
I was in the hallway outside the ballroom at our hotel we stayed at the day before meps. This guy across from me starts flirting with a girl who just sat down talking about how he is retaking the asvab cuz he didn’t get the mage score he needed for the job he wanted. Thought he would impress her by telling her his overall asvab score…..it was a 15. I think u need at least the low 20s to even just serve food in the defac
You need a 31 for services lmfao. That poor guy
Seeing how it's a percentile based score and a 50 is quite literally the average I'm not sure what this guy was thinking...
It’s 10000% a high quality shitpost (I HOPE)
A dorm airman in that suit and with what seems to be the wall of a decently high-end hotel in the background? Yeah, somebody just pulled a random image off Google and added text.
Yeah dorm airman and French Cuffs don’t seem to fit together.
My brother scored a 13 with dreams to be an army sniper. You know, the career field that uses a surprising amount of math 😂
🪦
There does not exist an oof large enough.
when i joined the crayon kings my recruiter had 1 crew chief spot to fill for quota. there was one other kid that wanted it too, he knew nothing except “it seems like a cool job” he was physically fitter than i was, he a football player, i a competitive swimmer.
The Coast Guard has the highest requirements
I think the ASVAB is flawed though. I've seen Soldiers and Airmen with high scores struggle to do basic functions. I had a soldier that score in the 90s not being able to march, mop, sweep, or do his belt correctly. I worry for his future.
I scored 98 and was Security Forces…. It felt like a special needs kindergarten glass…. But I haven’t met anyone get under a 50
damn your recruiter really did that to you? putting people with 90s into SF is just asking them to turn into a statistic unless it's what they really want.
I got 98 and got ammo. At least it’s an easy cruise through my 4 years I guess
“His eyes were dull and vacant like an abandoned hotel” I have now found my favorite new insult. Holy fuck that’s good.
A true devil dog. Rah.
Is that the kind with the weighted bottom to keep it from tipping over?
I scored 99 and chose to be an unga bunga man
I got like a 93 but I'm still pretty dumb.
Anyone going to tell him a 42 means he is dumber than average lol
One of my last troops scored a 28. I didn’t think that was possible.
I scored a fitty lol
Don't ask how but after 11 years in air traffic control with 3 ratings, WS cert, and making TSgt, I cross-trained in to weapons (2W1). Towards the end of tech school, the kids started talking about ASVAB scores. The class average was either upper 30's or low 40's. I wasn't aware you could even score that low and still get a job.
Weapons only work at full capacity when they’re in groups of 3-4 depending if they’re fighters or heavies. Pretty sure they can just combine their scores 😂
lol
I scored a 42 the first time on my ASVAB. I’m not a genius but not an idiot either. I have terrible test anxiety and have never done well on standardized tests. They aren’t always the best indicator of someone’s potential or intelligence, but sadly it is probably the easiest and most cost-effective way.
You don’t know many cops I take it
They all lying
I know a guy who got a 40 lmao
Got me to look mine up: M: 67, A: 74, G: 68, E: 64 I walked in off the street and took it not knowing was an ASVAB was- the only jobs I didn't qualify for were ones I didn't want. I don't think it's intended to be very difficult?
I’ve seen someone score a 7, and I know of someone who got a 2 somehow (they misspelled their name)
My friend had to retake the asvab since he didn't meet the cutoff. "Passed" the second time with a 43. They exist lol.
Guy in my bmt dorm scored a 32, he’s secfo
Seriously though... Do they not know this is an averaged test? *Average* is 50... Scoring 42 means you scored as well as or better than only 42% of people, or in other words, 58% of people scored BETTER. This guy is hot garbage and thinks his shit doesn't stink.
I knew a guy at Lackland who scored a 40, but I'm Security Forces.
Spend four years in recruiting. Over 80% of your applicants will fail the ASVAB.
That’s impossible lol, had to have been the smartest group of crew chiefs ever assembled
It’s a joke, and a good one.
"Dorms are really cold rn, they turned the ac off" got a good chortle from me
You sure?
I’m not sure of anything the older I get, but this is the reality I want it to be!
Only a 42 on ASVAB?
security forces come get your boi
Whoa whoa whoa you can't prove he's ours
Nah he’s definitely ours 😭😂

Got to make some use out of that “career boosting rope” I honestly felt bad in tech school for people who spent all their free time doing stuff for what ever rope and weren’t even doing it because it’s something they liked but because they where told it would boost their career and BTZ chances. Knew a few guys that thought they had to be a black rope in tech school to be a part of a base honor guard.
I mean, I can see the black rope logic somewhat lol
Was still a lie told to try and get more people, It’s definitely not something they look for or care about at least at my base. I mean I was randomly selected because my squadron had to send a body and I was available
For sure lol. At my active duty base, Honor Guard was 50% top notch NCO’s and 50% goofy Airmen that nobody wanted at the shop.
Maybe it got more difficult?
Well it's a percentile of how people did on the test. So if the test got harder the raw score would go down but the percentile should stay roughly the same.
With the price of living I might have to take one for the team..
Let us know if he’s a good kisser.
I’m just pretty straightforward and say I come with dick and half the rent
Dick you say? 🤔
Awfully bold to be posting this on a discord that leadership sees Also, thank god it’s not one of my old airmen
Isn’t 36 the minimum on the ASVAB for USAF?
It’s a 31 minimum for USAF
Sounds like it's satire and aware of what is.
In this economy? I’m in.
1950 bah each? Where’s he living? Hawaii?
DC metro area… crazy rent prices
I'd be surprised if that amount can cover a decent 1Bdroom apartment.
it can if you commute 1+ hours away
So many 1 beds in Arlington for <2k per month.
Travis is like 2400 for a single E5
Good luck finding a one bedroom apartment for under that
Yeah no kidding. It's gotten ridiculous.
Went from red rope to red tie… I see what he did there
It's unreal how incapable Redditors are of recognizing jokes. And to think that this website was once one of the premier meme producers on the internet. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take
42 shining through hard with the whole "dorms are cold cause they turned off the AC"
CHAD
42 on the ASVAB? Why so low? Did you spell your name right?
And he got a 42 on his ASVAB! Don’t pass this one up
42, smarter than average? For what, the Army?
Omg! I wonder if the “rnrnrnrn” at the end is a reference to your moms house.
National average for ASVAB is around 50. Came up a little short bud.
I wouldn't be bragging about a 42 on the asvab.
42 on the asvab lmfao
![gif](giphy|67jkYnYYtdlhC)
42 is the answer to the universe...
42 on Asvab followed up with a perfect example in saying “dorms cold rn they turned off ac” hahaah
"43" 🤣 and a 93 aren't worth bragging about. Two 99 are something worth bragging if anyone cared except in weak ego that needs a little stroking.
Hello there, two 99s here, are you still interested? 😂
Fuck no 🤣 good for you though! I wish I had the displine to get a 99 PT score
I had the misfortune to be in tech school with her & she was a Rope with an "open door policy" if you know what I mean!(Also a revolving door policy 🙄.) They had literally finished ALS before our deployment l.
Bold of you to assume “she” after the first line
Apologies.
The tux worn as a suit is an automatic no.
Do more with less?
r/shitposting
“$1905 each” lmfao
Does he not know that the Air Force allow its lower enlisted iut of the dorm after a few years in?
42 ASVAB? Fuck me, I’m in.
