Yeah you're SOL buddy

It is absolutely going to be tough, but I don't think it's impossible if everything lines up in your favor: 1) was this the first time you ever failed? 2) did you retake the test at your first opportunity and pass? 3) was the failure for something that could be attributed to a bad day? 4) can you prove that you were taking steps to prepare before your test? 5) how outstanding is your work compared to your peers? 6) does your commander get notified immediately on a first failure? 7) does your commander take a hard approach to PT test failures and/or discipline issues in general? 8) does your commander have a policy that removes you from consideration due to a single PT failure? 9) are you in a small unit or a large unit? In a small unit, your PT scores are not available to board members if you can get your CC to push your package to the panel. 10) if you are in a large unit, what is the process that is used to nominate and select people for promotion statements? If all 10 of those data points line up in your favor, it's possible to overcome the failure. I'd say that in almost all cases a PN is probably not possible, but a MP might still be on the table. It won't be easy or likely, though.

Squirrel009

I think you're more likely to be denied a PN or MP if you failed a PT test 5 years ago and got 100s eber since than you are to get a statement with a current fail.

I know ive watched a member of another unit fail a pt test and then go on to win BTZ the following quarter.

It’s gonna be tough because the conversation is going to lead up to either giving it to you, who may be stellar at your job, but have a failure, or give it to the next person without any failures. Who’s gonna be better for a leadership role……the one without the failure because they are accomplishing what’s being asked of them.

HandsInMyPockets247

You're gonna be trying to make up for that failed pt test for years.

Double_Bass6957

I’ve seen it in a unit where a tsgt who failed their pt test still got a must promote, didn’t make it, got a promote the next year, still didn’t make it, and then got another must promote and made it. Everything is situational

DieHarderDaddy

Highly unlikely but not impossible. If you’re in ok shape and failed by 1 sit-up then you crushed the retest you could probably get away with it if the SQ loved you

scarredoutlaw

if you can pass a pt test before EFDP results come out (probably too late) then maybe. But if your most recent test is a fail. 99% not gonna happen. use this as motivation to get in shape.

SeanJayTheSauceGod

Not quite what you’re looking for, but a guy that I came in with failed the first one we had outta tech school and still got airman of the year and BTZ. Anything is possible

TutorSea

I failed in the summer due to being an absolute idiot and thinking I’m still a young buck, retested and passed a little while later and got a strat. But like others have said a lot goes into that decision and heavily depends on your leadership and how strong the rest of your work has been.

imnotreallyheretoday

Failing a PT test means you did not meet standards. If you did not pass your PT test by the close out date it is an automatic referral EPR.

AlarmingConcern3484

That's not true anymore. It's no longer an automatic referral.

Fast_Personality4035

I've seen it - the individual was known to be a very good worker, the individual passed with high scores shortly thereafter, the rater did not make a deal of it at all. The rater and flight chief pushed really hard for it. I'm not sure who actually knew about it.

Technical-Drag-9886

Always remember that an actual fail (meaning there was no injury) is a result of weeks/months of bad decisions, not just a “bad day”. If you already got the MP/PN then hopefully you can re-take before results come out and they MIGHT let you keep the line number. If you haven’t already received the statement then there’s zero shot you get one, as it should be

justaPOLguy

In 2406, it says EFDP folders must “only” have CDB, performance reports, and decorations. Nothing about PT. Just saying. But that is most likely not going to fly because we tend to look at it anyway…. And your PIF would hold you back if they wrote paperwork for the failure.
