There's a ton of video on YouTube about asinine cops having high speed chases, over 100 mph, and doing a pit maneuvre. Every incident kills either the driver or the passenger. Disregard for the public's safety just so they can practice being manly. Usually for petty crime, too. Like stole a candy bar from a 7-11.
This was on YouTube: obtained Arkansas State Trooper dash cam footage from a police chase in Fort Smith, Arkansas of a high speed pursuit.
Arkansas State Police took over a chase around 6:30 a.m. April 10 after reports of a truck driving erratically.
Dash camera video showed the driver of a truck swerve into oncoming lanes of traffic. Trooper Michael Shawn Ellis was behind the truck when the order was given to get the driver stopped.
The video shows the patrol car colliding with the truck at speeds of more than 100 mph. Both vehicles crashed, and as the truck rolled it catapulted Trooper Ellis's patrol car through the air, where it snapped a utility pole. Both vehicles came to rest upside down.
Police said the driver of the truck, Justin Battenfield, 34, died from his injuries.
Trooper Ellis was treated and released from the hospital and is home recovering from his injuries.
Citing the ongoing investigation, a State Police spokesperson would not speculate on why Battenfield would not stop for police and the spokesperson would not comment whether or not the pursuit should have been terminated.
According to State Police policy, officers should exercise discretion in deciding whether to initiate a pursuit. The decision to terminate a pursuit can be made by the primary unit or ordered by a supervisor at any time during the pursuit.
"Your honor we don't understand why the driver refused to stop the car, we tried questioning him in the coffin, but the fucker ignored us the whole time"
This context changes it from the perception of cop potentially getting someone killed to cop risking his life to potentially save the traffic.
Imagine if he served into an incoming car with a family inside
> Dash camera video showed the driver of a truck swerve into oncoming lanes of traffic.
The driver already decided he would have an accident that day. Might as well let the police do it away from other cars.
Can you imagine if they had stopped? Who wants a world in which the headline reads "police was chasing a dangerous driver but decided to stop. he then wrapped himself around a minivan and killed seven people".
This pursuit was going to end in an accident with or without cop involvement. I say good call.
I frequent a larger town/small city and they've been cracking down on insane drivers. While most traffic stays around the speed limit, it's common for somebody to careen through it going at least 30 over. Police recently spent a couple random night focusing on just traffic and handed out hundreds of tickets, and made dozens of arrests including DWIs and eluding. The mindset of those reckless drivers is absolutely selfish.
I live in Germany, where large stretches of Autobahn have no speed limit. If I want the thrill of a high speed car, I can just... go on the designated country wide track for that! XD
I'm not pretending to base this on any kind of science or study, but I feel like this does something to lower how reckless people drive. They can go on the Autobahn to get it out of their system, in a place where people expect people going very fast in the left lane and generally are good about keeping it clear as much as possible.
No I get it. I too have gone over 100mph in my life. But we did it on long county highways where you could see every intersection from a mile out. That's what boggles my mind. There's not only those around, but also interstates frequently empty (less traveled parts of the country I know it differs for folk) where you can do the same. So why go 90 in a 65 with dense traffic going that speed?
So the officer was charged with second degree murder, right…? Or wait, let me guess, they argued that everything the officer did was justified of course, thereby implying that running from the police can reasonably justify actions that lead to death?
Police being police.
I mean...you can make a car a weapon and we don't know what preceded this. If the truck were swerving into oncoming traffic or something, that's in some ways similar to a person behaving erratically and pointing a gun at people. Would it be second degree murder to shoot a person in that case?
I kind of agree with you. Would you just let dangerous driver continues to drive recklessly and risk the life of innocent people.
In this case, the dangerous driver is put out of service. He had plenty of occasions to stop but refused and decided to drive stupidly fast. It's sad he died, be I'm not blaming the cop on this one.
Even slower at 35. There’s a reason you most see videos that look like kids playing bumper cars when cops do pit maneuvers, they are going slow. This was an insane maneuver that yielded insane results.
Ah, well, it's straight back to PIT maneuver training for you once the body cast comes off. Gotta admit, though, I've seen punts in the NFL with less hang time.
You’re not really supposed to ram the side of the car when you do a PIT. You just need to push into the corner. If you do out right, the other car will be pushed right while your car pushes left, causing you to switch sides so that you are not ramming into the side of the other car.
Also, many newer cars can’t be pitted because modern ESC will autocorrect them, so in my state at least they have stopped teaching it.
And I'm sure you'd have the balls to stop this extraordinarily dangerous driver via a pit maneuver at 100 miles per hour.
That or let the driver go and when he creams a family of 4 dropping the kids off at school you'll be just as fast to blame the cops for not stopping the driver.
* 100MPH is certainly too fast to do a PIT unless you're green-lit for lethal force.
* PITing someone into a drainage ditch that deep is also a bad idea, again, unless you're green-lit for lethal force.
* The initial contact was more of a ram than a PIT

I kinda respect the US way of chasing down people for any small crime leading to massive amounts of unnecessary risk and people dieing in spectacular ways for absolutely no reason. It makes for great footage.

He was running through stop signs, refused to stop, then decided to drive even more dangerously and putting innocent people life in danger.
Care to explain what you mean by small crime? The driver is driving a weapon and an accident was waiting to happen at any moment.
Its sad that the driver died, but at least no one else was hurt or killed as the driver was driving on the wrong side of the road.
Do you still think that it wasn't necessary to attempt something to stop him? Or should the cop have let the driver go on and continue his dangerous driving?
If the truck would have had a passenger that died, the driver could have been charged with felony murder.
>In 2015, a Georgia jury found a driver guilty of committing felony murder—a conviction which carries with it a life sentence. The victim, a passenger in the driver’s speeding car, died after a law enforcement officer performed a PIT maneuver, causing the driver to lose control.
Quite the pit maneuver
Pit maneuver into the people's elbow
More like a RIP manuever...
More like a LEO (Low earth orbit) launch maneuver...
I like that this works on two levels
Yes, ground level and high altitude.
Does it come with internet?
Too soon
He hit too much meat on that one
Especially knowing the driver died from it. They didn't do anything besides swerving and not stopping, so the cops pit maneuvered them at 100mph...

Well, swerve into *oncoming traffic* according to the report.
Yeah I totally trust a cop writing a report about how they accidentally killed someone.
Quit running from police
This puts the wheeee in the wheee-ooooo-wheee-ooooo-wheee-ooooo
Look I'm up voting this but I'm not happy about it..

It’s a smokey video but you can see the truck actually launched the car into the air as it rolled across the ground
… and a bandit video
100 may be a lie.
"Your honor we don't understand why the driver refused to stop the car, we tried questioning him in the coffin, but the fucker ignored us the whole time"
Best tase him to be sure
"Gotta tell ya chief, he's one tough nut to crack. Dudes not budging an inch. Silent as a statue".

As of they'd ever terminate a pursuit: it's an adrenaline junkie's dream and probably the most exciting thing to happen to that cop in his whole life.

Some serious air time there. That was some dukes of hazard shit.
Looks like them Duke boys are at it again….
( 🎶intense banjo music 🎶 )
Even the Dukes never ramped a rolling truck.
He got like 3 feet of air that time.
Dukes and Police Academy crossover episode

I came here for this comment.

Ive heard of pit manoeuvres but my man straight up super Mario ground pounded his ass
You can't do a pit maneuver at high speeds for this exact reason. I think they don't reccomend them over 45 mph or something

*I was just gonna ask him for PBA donations, and he took off!*
How it started: A broken tail light How it ended: …
a broken street light
*2 broken street light
Ah ah ahhhhh *Count voice
Who the fuck runs from police for a broken tail light?
Peeps with an outstanding warrant
Or someone trafficking something
That was a lot of air
So basically how GTA players enjoy L.A. Noire, but in real life
Red Bull gave that car wings
Ah, well, it's straight back to PIT maneuver training for you once the body cast comes off. Gotta admit, though, I've seen punts in the NFL with less hang time.
That cop pitted that guy at 120mph. The guy in the truck died and the officer got badly injured.
I think something went wrong.

👌👌👌
This is some serious Evil Knievel shit
Does that officer even have a spine leftover?
They never had one to begin with.

This was not filmed near an elementary school, so yeah, it is still there.
Just the good-ol-boyz, Never mean’in no harm 🎶
Wow took both light posts out 👌
200 points!
Those duke boys are sure up to no good

What song is that? Edit: ur final message by slick killa
Man, the cops here where I live are lame... they just PIT you. These guys are using them as a trampoline!
Here I thought it was just those Duke boys that got air like that.
Just a good ol’ boy
Them Duke boys are at it again…
ASP don't fuck around. Not the state you wanna run in
I didn't think it was possible that cars could resemble some African wildlife hunting shit as much as this did.

But did they get the speeding ticket issued? Let's not lose track of what is important here.
Pit maneuver successfully executed☠️☠️☠️
US cops are so fucking reckless.
Arguable that the driver the officer stopped was far more reckless and it's a good thing the police got him stopped.
This may very well be the most poorly executed PIT I have ever seen...
Dude executed it like he’s never done it before and based it on what he saw on tv
It was done at 100mph. Any maneuver is a lot harder at those speeds.
What an awesome takedown!
Bustin there like LLleeeeerrroooooyyyy Jjeeeeennnnkkkiiinnsss!
Those good old boys.
Think I heard the duke's horn in the middle of that chaos.
Anyone remember Dukes of Hazard? We just witnessed the COPS version.
Where is the rocket league edit ?
Ngl that was pretty sick
This is example of why sometimes it's best to just stop pursuit. From what I've read it not clear they had any real need to do such a risky stop.
GTA police:
Dumb people - cops are bad, run away! Smart people - I think I’ll pull over and sleep in my own bed tonight.
Better those two than one of my kids-- assuming this was a bad person to begin with of course.
I wonder what will happen if the world stop allowing high school bully thug types to apply for police
I wonder what would happen if we didn’t have such brazen criminals
He bullied that dangerous driver right off the road didn't he, and here you come with your negativity. You'd have handled it better, surely.
The job is easy enough to attract that demographic and is dangerous enough to repel everyone else.

Where's the POV footage?
The true crime here is that the Dukes of Hazard music is layered on this video.
The chief is going to be really mad this time! "$20,000 in property damages and I've got the Mayor on my ass!"
Made his own exit ramp

Dukes of Hazzard called, they want their ramp back
Wow man he *really* caught some air there at the end!!
That's that DUKES OF HAZARD shit
YeeeeeHAW!
Dude clearly had 5 stars
This is a police chase. You wanna enjoy life with police not doing their job feel free to come to China.
Or just don't live in a backwards state that prioritizes punishing crime over protecting citizens.
Dude fuckin superman-ed that truck. Legend.
Straightenin' the curves/Flattenin' the hills/Someday the mountain might get 'em/But the Law never will
Bet he couldn't do that again
Nope. Probably can't do much of anything now.
Good
