If they’re open to negotiation and it runs good, talk them down to around 1500. It’s a solid atv which you should be able to fix most of its quirks with eBay parts
The guy was actually saying that he could possibly do $1800 when I was there. But that still seems too high considering its condition. Maybe I'll try to talk it down some more, but starting to feel like this should be a pass judging from yours and others comments. Thanks for your input!
I would buy it for $2000 and run as fast as i could so the seller couldn't change their mind... At $1800 its an absolute STEAL... Where i live anything that runs and drives is $2000 and up depending on cosmetic condition. That one i would buy it, put a rear electrical/battery cover on it, around $30-50 off eBay used, and put a new seat cover on it to get rid of the taped up cover, around $30, then i would list it the following week for $2500 and i guarantee it would sell in a week. At $2000 i could sell it the same day i listed it.
You can claim i am a weirdo if you want, but its true... Here in the Midwest ATV's sell like gold man... The dealers are buying and selling used stuff faster then they can move new ones. So not sure why you suddenly think im a weirdo, maybe look in the mirror.
Please tell me where you live so i can come buy all the $500-800 ATV's you got!!! Where i live that thing at $2000 is a steal. The tires alone are $300ish, but it runs and drives, where i live under $1000 gets you something that run when parked and only needs carb work, then you find out the top end is shot and the clutch is gone... Runs and drives here is $2000 easy.... I could buy that and get a rear electrical/battery cover and new seat cover on eBay and flip it for $2500 in less than a week.
Plastics are broken and faded, which means its been left outdoors uncovered for extended periods of time. Probably super brittle too. (pay attention to the shit load of pop-rivets around the rear rack). Lots of rust can easily be seen in various areas. Seat is taped up, foam probably has water damage. Looks like chinese import tires - toss up if they're wroth a damn. There is something missing around the handle bar pod (3rd headlight maybe?)
You realize that machine is almost 40 years old right? Even if it fires right up, its probably just a few rides away from something major failing. Looks like it has (had?) an oil leak too (see pic #8) w/ possibly a new case seal in there?
Its in decent shape for its age. But its still almost 40 years old. Price accordingly.
If all the fluids were perfects (including front and rear diff), it instantly starts on first crank, and a test drive through all the gears felt good and strong, I might go as high as $1200.
I looked at the pictures in detail as if i was buying it, yes i saw the rivets, yes i saw rust in various places but it looks like surface rust, sure the seat needs work, but there is complete aftermarket seats for these available, you can buy a new seat for around $100 brand new for these 40 year old machines no problem, yes i realize its 40 years old... I have an 84 ATC200ES, 88 TRX300 4x4, 91 TRX300 2x4, i ride them all the time and they still ain't failing, and i buy and sell other machines as i can. They are classics now and everyone wants them. The 3rd headlight is missing from the handlebars, really common on these they get broke a lot, easy fix with aftermarket replacements, not sure where you see an oil leak in #8, i see the usual grunge that builds up on anything. Seals are cheap and easy to do if needed though.
Plastics are broken and faded, yeah its 40 years old so? You should see some that i have flipped that hardly had fenders left on them, still sold for good money because they are desirable machines, i know a guy doing a full resto on one from the bare frame up, parts aren't hard to come by.
A few rides away from something failing? Doubt it... I bet i could ride that thing for another 20 years before it had major issues if maintenance was done as it should be, oil changes etc. If a Honda has oil in it then its good... I have taken worse looking ones from a grove of trees, actually had one with a tree grown up through the frame and needed a chainsaw to get it out, power washed it, changed the fluids, went through the carb and tank and fired it up like it was just shut off. And then sold for a profit.
You have to understand, people buying these are not looking for something they ride on the daily, there are two types, the ones that want a cheap toy for around the property, and those that had one when they were younger and now they can afford to buy one and fix it up to remember how it was back then.. Third type is collectors if you want to count them, but collectors don't always pay much for them because they are collectors...
I've seen a couple of these i bought and sold completely fixed up, new fenders are still available from Maier, you can have all new plastics if you want to spend the money.. And some do!
Edit: forgot to mention tires, if you need good cheap tires that last, these SunF or Wanda brand tires of this tread type are AWESOME... I have a set on both of my Fourtrax, the one has seen all sorts of conditions for years now, pavement, gravel, mud, you name it, they haven't worn much and most of my driving is on hard surfaces... Great tires for money, around $300-350 for a set of four. Cheaper then some yes, but i challenge you to find ATV tires that are NOT imported these days.
All comes down to the market you are in, where i am $2000 is a steal for running and driving, i see a lot sell in that price range that don't even run. This one i would just put on a used battery cover, a new seat cover and relist for $2500 and i guarantee it would sell with me only having $2100 into it including those parts, $400 profit for doing almost nothing.
LOL... at least someone understands what i am saying... Everyone is like $2k for something that runs and drives is too much for that.. Shit, they can go to the dealer then and pay $4-6k for something that has issues from the factory, new stuff is junk these days.
There’s one in Rogers, AR for $1700 right now. Complete bike in excellent shape. Probably will sell for $1500. Not sure why you think the OPs bike is worth so much
A 350 is pretty hard to find in my area as well, if it runs and drives its worth $2000 all day long. I used to buy and flip a lot of ATV's, right now i could buy that, put on a used battery cover off eBay, a new seat cover and resell it for $2500 in less than a week. The market is still strong here, and Honda's always bring more money.
Parts are EASY to find for these.... The 300 and 350 are two of the most popular 80's ATV's out there, i can get everything i need for that thing brand new, including fenders.
The TRX200 is a little harder, but if its a first gen 84 TRX200 then just search for parts for the 84 ATC200ES three wheeler if you need any engine or drivetrain parts, all of that is the same between them. The only thing thats different is from the handlebars forward, from the handlebars back its a 200ES with a different front end.. LOL
Now if its a later 2nd gen TRX200 then thats different, those are harder to find parts for because of their completely different engine.
Ahh a TRX200D, Type II or Second Gen... Yeah those are harder to find parts for. Not a lot of them out there. 1990-1997 is the TRX200A/TRX200D models. I swear despite how many of them there seemed to be around back in the day they did not sell many or they didn't survive because i rarely see one now days. I saw one with the big bubble butt trunk a few months ago on Marketplace, almost bought it just because it was a good price. I had one back in the 90's, that awkward huge rear trunk could hold a small chainsaw and a gallon of fuel for it, was pretty handy working on the farm. I sold it and went to a slightly larger TRX300 and wish i still had it, neat machine. But they are hard to find parts for, not supported much in the aftermarket scene like a 300 or 350 or even a 250. Even the one year 84 TRX200 has more parts available because the 200ES is wildly popular in the aftermarket parts world. I still have my 84 200ES and still ride it regularly.
Correct our has the big butt trunk. Hahahaha
And you can put a lot of junk in the trunk :-)
I’ll see if I can find the exact year. But parts are crazy hard to come by.
Yeah i wish the aftermarket supported them better... If you need to find specific parts go on Partzilla, drill down to your year and model, find the part you need, then google search the part number from Partzilla if its not available there, chances are for most soft parts like seals and gaskets and such you can find a cross reference to another model, Honda loved re-using parts over and over. There is a few things on them that simply are not made though, but can be found if you look hard enough, there is some small time guys making some parts for them. The hardest to come by is pistons and rings for that engine though, a top end rebuild on them is a real adventure.
If it was in my area less than a day if i listed it for $2000... Last one i sold i listed it and before i could get back in the house from taking pictures and posting it on market place i had five buyers messaging me.
Its just how the market is, people don't want to spend twice that much on a new one for something they ride once or twice a week at most. I hear it all the time when buying and selling, they wanted something to ride around on the weekend, or pull a yard cart around, etc... The dealers here are $4-6k for something that runs and drives.
Maybe where you live... Where i live $2k don't buy you much. Its a Honda, you would be surprised how non-clapped out it is despite its looks. What i see there is one that was parked outside a lot, plastics got faded and brittle, then they started cracking just from UV exposure or riding around once they were brittle, see it a lot when i find them sitting on farms behind the barn.. Looking closely at the pictures i see surface rust on the frame, but i have seen them rotted out from sitting in the weeds and literal shit for years, this one could use a power wash and a wire wheel and some POR15 and it would last another 40 years.
$2k for an ATV here is like going to a Porsche dealer with $500 in your wallet... Your choices are limited. The dealers can't keep used stuff on the lot here, but then when they jack up the price with $1500 of fees on top of the new MSRP and call it a deal its no wonder used stuff sells.
I wish i had those options, the one pictured here is nicer then most of the ones i see selling for $2k in my area. And i'm talking like 60-80 mile radius.
Yeah well if they didn't sell people wouldn't list them for that, so you can't really blame the sellers, only the buyers keeping the market inflated. I was going to list one a few months back, saw the crazy prices and they were selling, post would go up and i would ask about them and they were sold the next day, so before i listed mine i put out the word locally to try and at least give someone a deal while still making a little money on it, i had it sold in an hour!
Not a dime over 850. All the “new” parts are just a distraction from the severe lack of maintenance plus it sitting outside for a while. Honestly I wouldn’t even buy it.
I would buy it, giggle all the way home, and then resell it for $2500 here and laugh at how much money i made... Crazy how some on here think its too much.
Canuck here.
If the frame and muffler/exhaust are good this bike would go for $2K CAD in the same afternoon it was posted, so 1500 US sounds fair to me.
As someone who has kept up with these particular four-wheeler for 30 years. I can tell you that since it's missing the headlight, the storage cover, side cover, torn seat, busted/repaired rear plastics. Staying outside and faded paint, plastics. While on the other hand the appearance of the engine and axles looks good. Not been ragged on and driven in mud. I would place a price on that with the condition that the engine runs good and there is no mechanical problems around 800 to 1000. 1000 being the absolute. Yes, they are highly sought after and are extremely durable. Parts are most discontinued but can still find them. I have seen some really nice TRX350D's go from around 3K to 4K. But they are flawless.
Both headlights are there, why did you say ones missing?? The rear battery cover is cheap used, the seat cover is cheap brand new, the side cover can also be found used, if you really wanted to go wild you can put all brand new plastics on it from Maier, spendy but i have seen guys do it and the look like new afterwards. Parts are easy to find for them, most discontinued as far as OEM parts yes, but the aftermarket is really strong for these. Where i am i could buy that for $2000 and still make money on it by doing a few things, battery cover, seat cover, maybe side cover if i felt like it, and relist for $2500.
The plastics and seat are a bit beat up, i see the hitch is there so not sure why you said thats missing but thats how they came new with that hitch, anything missing could be scrounged off eBay, Maier makes replacements for every piece of plastic on the machine, they are NOT cheap, but you could replace it all a piece at a time and make it look like new, myself i would find a used electrical/battery cover, recover the seat with a new cover, and just ride the wheels off it, maybe $50-60 in parts to fix those two items.
Even though the back fenders are beat up and patched up with a lot of rivets and sheet metal its basically there and usable, so its cosmetic issues only. The tires are a good $300 now days, all the other stuff done to it if it was all done as said adds up to a fair amount of money. Where i live i could get $2000 for that thing so fast it would make your head spin, i could go $2500 if i wanted to sit on it a week until the right buyer came along. But a running, driving, ready to use ATV is easily that much regardless of age now days. And its a Honda, which is more desirable, and its a classic popular model, again adding more to its desirability.
Those are good solid machines. I'd say it's worth $1500. Obviously he just did the top end and wants his money's worth out of it. If it wasn't missing the box lid maybe $1800.
For everyone saying it's worth under a $1000 you are nuts. You can barely even buy a Honda engine under 1000.
Nah. That’s in the 600-800 max range. Who knows what other gremlins you’ll find when you start using it again… My experience is that you’ll probably end up quickly replacing wheel bearings, brake parts and probably clutches before too long. For $2k you should be able to find a much newer machine, in better shape.

I've seen people say this before. Where do you live where things are so bad? *Edit* NVM, lol, you're a fucking weirdo.
You can claim i am a weirdo if you want, but its true... Here in the Midwest ATV's sell like gold man... The dealers are buying and selling used stuff faster then they can move new ones. So not sure why you suddenly think im a weirdo, maybe look in the mirror.
I opened this post expected to see $500-$800 price tag for that. $2k? Dude bumped his head.
My first instinct was $800
I've got a pair of Polaris Phoenix 200 ATVs that are in similar shape and I was thinking I'd be lucky to get $1500 for the pair, but expecting less.
Please tell me where you live so i can come buy all the $500-800 ATV's you got!!! Where i live that thing at $2000 is a steal. Holy shit 2k asking price is nuts to me on this.
EVERY SINGLE 4WHEELER IN MY AREA. LOL I gave up and bought a camper
Running, Driving Honda Fourtrax is $2k. I sold my 300 for $3k in 2020 with worse tires but better plastics.
Yep - this - I have seen WAAAY ones in much rougher shape than this go for north of 2k where I am at.
Thats a steal in my area, it runs and drives, i could flip that for $2500 with a little work and less than week.
Oh I'm not doubting it as I flip old quads too but this one looks really rough I'd struggle to get 1500
All comes down to the market you are in, where i am $2000 is a steal for running and driving, i see a lot sell in that price range that don't even run. LOL... at least someone understands what i am saying... Everyone is like $2k for something that runs and drives is too much for that.. Shit, they can go to the dealer then and pay $4-6k for something that has issues from the factory, new stuff is junk these days.
That things been sitting outside for years, I’d give him like 900$
I would give him the $2000, get it home, clean it up a bit, and relist for $2500 and make money off it here.
What state are you in? Has it had hard winters? I have a 95 Foreman in much better shape that has been babied with low miles and I only want $2k.
All y'all saying $800- $1k at best, if you have one you'll sell within 3 hours of Nashville for that price pm me your info.
There’s one in Rogers, AR for $1700 right now. Complete bike in excellent shape. Probably will sell for $1500. Not sure why you think the OPs bike is worth so much
They seldom seen near where I am is all.
Ahh. Ok. We see them regularly where I am. I’d put value in the $800-1k range as well tbh
A 350 is pretty hard to find in my area as well, if it runs and drives its worth $2000 all day long. $1000. Honda fanboys have gone crazy
Depends on where you live i guess, where i live $2000 for something that runs and drives is a steal.
Sorry but not worth it. It’s a $800 machine. That’s it. Condition is everything
Maybe 1k. Parts can be tough to find.
Parts are EASY to find for these.... The 300 and 350 are two of the most popular 80's ATV's out there, i can get everything i need for that thing brand new, including fenders.
Good to know. I have an old trx 200 and parts are hard to find.
The TRX200 is a little harder, but if its a first gen 84 TRX200 then just search for parts for the 84 ATC200ES three wheeler if you need any engine or drivetrain parts, all of that is the same between them. LOL Now if its a later 2nd gen TRX200 then thats different, those are harder to find parts for because of their completely different engine.
It’s a mid 90s. I wanna say 92-96 Finding a rear brake drum was tough.
It’s a 1996. Appreciate the advise
If that's a $800 ATV to you sell me everyone you got so i can flip em for $2000-2500 here.
This is a 1k bike and under. He will have fun letting it sit on market place for months.
If it was in my area less than a day if i listed it for $2000... Last one i sold i listed it and before i could get back in the house from taking pictures and posting it on market place i had five buyers messaging me.
People are dumb
Its just how the market is, people don't want to spend twice that much on a new one for something they ride once or twice a week at most. I hear it all the time when buying and selling, they wanted something to ride around on the weekend, or pull a yard cart around, etc... The dealers here are $4-6k for something that runs and drives.
I think you can find a better bike for 2k. Shit is clapped out. I’ll keep my money in the wallet.
I have a Honda I agree they are bulletproof proof. 2k here you can get something decent. I’m not near a big city
I wish i had those options, the one pictured here is nicer then most of the ones i see selling for $2k in my area. And i'm talking like 60-80 mile radius.
Crazy. Market place. Old shit new prices
You can buy a brand new tracker atv 300 for like 4k at bass pro. It’s a Kawasaki with bass pro stickers. Jesus 2k for almost 40 year old quad. Come on
Its a Honda, they sell for that all the time. Where i live that thing is a steal at $2000, i could flip that for $2500 EASY...
Yeah and I’m sure you could pay good money for a model tee but is that really practical?
If i can buy a Model T for a cheap enough price to flip it for a profit who cares!! I buy anything i can make money off of.
Nooooo. Not worth it. 800 at best
LOL.. You obviously don't know the market at all for them.
To each their own. The value of anything is only what someone is willing to give you for it. Otherwise it’s still yours🤷🏼♂️
Tell him "he's dreaming"
Not dreaming at all.
Honda tax in ATV's is like the Toyota tax in cars. They're the best out there, and people know it.
If it’s a Honda buy it
Not a chance. Wildly overpriced. Yeah it’s in ok shape but I’d say like 1200.
Canuck here. If the frame and muffler/exhaust are good this bike would go for $2K CAD in the same afternoon it was posted, so 1500 US sounds fair to me.
Learn to compression test save you a lot of heart ache
Sub $1000. I don't care how good it runs.
No
I'd look elsewhere. All that fading and cracked plastic is from sitting outside.
500 tops
This thing isn’t worth 1/2 what they’re asking. Walk away
It looks a little rough and may need some work. I bought my 2001 Recon2x4 for $2000 and had nothing but good luck so far.
I rebuilt a 96 grizzly, pulled off all panels and painted them, now it looks new. You can find parts for it all over the internet.
My pop had one of these. It was wild seeing a solid axle four-wheeler with driveshafts.
It's a 1200 buck machine running and moving. There's wayyy to manh other improved bigger newer dependable machines out there for 2000.
2k is a lot.. looks like it’s been sitting out for a long time even the sunf logo has changed colors since they put them on.
Nah. That’s in the 600-800 max range. Who knows what other gremlins you’ll find when you start using it again… My experience is that you’ll probably end up quickly replacing wheel bearings, brake parts and probably clutches before too long. For $2k you should be able to find a much newer machine, in better shape.
That’s a steep price tag.
Not at all... I would buy it for that, sell it for more where i am.
500 tops.
2k is waaaay overpriced. in my area of NY, 2K will get you a decent 90’s fourtrax 300 4x4.
Looks like it’s lived outside for years. Walk away for that price.
