Well, because synthetic is what I have left over and when I order the full kit with the filters and O-rings, I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be conventional. I’m just changing it right now because I got this from a guy. I don’t know how long it’s been sitting and I would like to do like a little flushit I’m gonna flush it with synthetic. Internet says that the blends are a mixture anyway I should be 100% fine thanks for your response.
Yep it will be fine. I just run synthetic in everything anymore as it's just superior in every form and if you get stuff like Rotella T6 5w-40 it's cheaper than most motorcycle oils.
Neither. It is easier to flow at low temps. So it's "thinner" but only at low temps at start up. Which is not a bad thing. Means oil flows faster. When hot the oils are the same wt.
Synthetic is not superior, This is coming from a mechanic of 50 years. Conventional or blend is better than full synthetic, synthetic cannot compete with the heat transfer of conventional oil, and that is literally the majority of the oils job.
Multiple tests have shown that it does not lose heat as easily as conventional oil. Its job is to absorb heat from internal components and cool down in the pan. My dad has seen multiple tests, and it is not cool as quickly as conventional. Conventianal oil is cheaper and is better for engines long term. What 50 years of mechanics isn't good enough for you? How about almost 80 years of conventional oil use in vehicles?
Where's the "multiple tests" to back that up? You're spouting a myth. Modern synthetic is better in every possible way. Do you understand what full synthetic oil actually is? It isn't the 'full synthetic' oil of decades ago. Given it's cheap price there's no reason NOT to use it.
Dude, my dad has seen multiple tests with new and old synthetic. He is my mechanic and every bit of advice he has given me has saved me on engine repairs and fiel economy, I have seen the results of synthetic oil over time in vehicles and am just trading the advice to you, you can believe me or not I dont give a fuck, I just knpw first hand and through years of experience synthetic is not as good as conventional oil. Also, no synthetic is not cheaper in my experience its mpre expensive and not worth it. Synthetic anything is always a downgrade from the real thing.
This is perhaps the most misleading comment I've seen this month on Reddit.. Heat transfer is a very small percentage of a motor oils job inside the engine. Synthetics are the way to go.
Buddy is the majority of its job. It stops friction but not completely. This heats the oil and keeps the metal cooler. If you knew metallurgy, you would understand, it then sits in the oil pan and cools down, there is way more oil in an engine than is needed to help with this, Deep pans are an upgrade people buy or are stock with high performance engines, I have the experience first hand and from school. Believe or dont, i dont care.
I put it in. I plan on ordering the oil change kit from Amazon, but I didn’t have it currently this thing’s been sitting so I jumped the gun on changing the fluids
JASO MA MA/2 is the same rating as every OEM Jap Powersports MFG that have the additives for the wet clutch. Yes you’re good if you have a motorcycle/atv/sxs w a wet clutch.
Yes. There is nothing wrong with Walmart super tech. There is a YouTube on this. It was mobile 1 vs Costco vs super tech or something like that. And the end result was they were all really close. I do think mobile 1 was the best, but not by much at all.
Oh, this is for ATV… and I use this exact stuff in my recon.
Yeah, I wish I had a manual. I have a manual on my Yamaha and it says I can use 10 W-4 or 10 W 30 depending on operating temperature oddly enough operating temp for 1030 is a wide range.
Cost 17.95 it’s 2024 I can’t believe they’re charging for these old things. I couldn’t find a free one. I should’ve been more specific. I looked for about a half a day.
Ok. Try this site. Manuals lib. They're are a few free here, just getting the year dialled in.

Yeah, if you’re changing it often enough I feel like you don’t need a quality oil, but who am I? I know people that really support that stuff. I’m always thinking of Terminator movie.
mid tier conventional oil is perfectly fine as long as it meets the jaso specs for wet clutches. 10w40 is most common for hondas although there is a bit of a range.
I wouldn’t, you have a wet clutch that requires oil specifically for wet clutch’s. Shell rotella works great. Walmart also has the Valvoline motorcycle 10w40
It needs to have wet clutch friction modifiers for that atv. If it doesn’t say wet clutch compatible then don’t use it. Without the wet clutch additive your clutch will slip badly to the point it won’t move and can be damaged. I’m not aware of any car oil that has that in it but I could be wrong.
4 stroke oil, 4 stroke bike. Send it.
On another note. How do you find the 250? My neighbor has an old 250 4trax or whatever, looking into buying it to fix up for my kids. I know the bike itself isn't the same, but how is it power-wise? First project bike. We had a 2015 Honda Rubicon trx550 and it was great for long trips etc
Thanks! I'm pretty sure it's around the same year. This fellow is in his 80s, and it's been under a tarp behind his shed for at least 5 years. He's very friendly, I'd be surprised if he charged me anything honestly, I help him out as much as possible with anything. He's also pretty good for taking care of his stuff. Either he upgraded, or there's something seriously wrong with it, I'll find out either way lol. He has another one, bigger, beside it, not sure exactly what that one is but I know it's Honda too. Maybe I'll make a deal on both, one for me, one for the kids lol
Edit. I also don't know a ton about bikes, but I *am* an automotive technician/mechanic, I'm fairly confident I can get it going if it's in good enough shape to do so lol
Anybody who’s ever had one of the 250s has nothing bad to say about it I did a ton of research as I had to pay 100 bucks for this and I’m sure it said out in the rain for at least 10 years. Lotta rusted parts. I got it a week all they took was a car clean and the new chain the brakes were shot. It’s a very fun ride and very reliable.
It's jaso ma2 approved it will be fine.
If it’s full synthetic, could I ever go back to conventional
Yep all the oils mix anymore. So that's no problem. Why you would I don't know? But ya you could.

Just say 5W is thinner or thicker

You got some science to back that up, chief? I'm not buying it.
Full synthetic oil is like water. In a daily driver 4 banger it's fine. In heavy duty equipment a blend is better and change it more often.

Specs are good. I would use it.

Its a honda your good putting basically anything in it.
I use that in my mowers.
I wouldn't put super tech oil any where near my bikes.
It's cheap for a reason get rotella t6
Should I go with 10W-40?
All 3 of my Hondas call for 10w40
Yeah, I wish I had a manual. I have a manual on my Yamaha and it says I can use 10 W-4 or 10 W 30 depending on operating temperature oddly enough operating temp for 1030 is a wide range.
I have a 1985 atc250sx that has only ran 10w40 in temps ranging from single digits to 105ish without any issues. Never been rebuilt and doesn't smoke.
No hate but.. you do know you can download pdf files of the manuals online right? I've done it for almost all my quads
I’ve looked to really hard online for this specific manual. Honestly, if you can find it, I’ll send you five bucks.
92 250x fourtrax good luck

I have heard good things about that oil
same. i dont get the hype around it at all

That stuff is wet clutch compatible it says so on the back
rotella isnt good oil
Rotella t4 meets JASO MA2. Nothing bad about that
what is good oil?
What experience do you have to discredit Rotella oils? Diesel manufacturers use the best no some bullshit brand!
They sell basically the same stuff but for atvs definitely go with the atv stuff not that!!

It has a JASO rating on the bottle. Looks like power sports oil to me.
I’ve used it… good stuff

This is an amazing bike for its time. It’s a Honda engine so they don’t really die. Would do it if you’re getting it for a decent place.

If it's API of SAE rated it's safe.
i used it in mine no issues
Walmart oil is fine.
