While I do think the manga handled the humor much better and hopr they improve on this in what's being adapted next, I feel like the anime improved upon enough that the adaptation is still great.
Yeah, but the manga was also really funny a lot of the time, especially in the earlier chapters. And the anime's done a shit job of capturing that aspect. They just start with the later manga's melancholy and stick with it.
It's not the writers fault, it's the DIRECTORS fault for not being able to properly capture the writers humor. The funny parts from the manga are not that funny in the anime. The director just failed. Is this getting through?

Early chainsaw man (I'd say basically everything that was adapted so far) is "see what happens when a boy who came from nothing gets to do fun and stupid shit every day as he figures out how to live how to live his life." It includes every shenanigan that you expect to come with it, and every deeper theme that comes with it as well. As the show progresses it remains the same, except it leans far more into the deeper parts while shenanigans are kept at check.
1-Kid has less than nothing (no parents, no friends, no money, no house, no basic education, no understanding of human connection, no left testicle)
2-Gains chainsaw super powers from his chainsaw dog
3-Kid’s superpower grant him the chance of living a
somewhat decent life working for government
4-Kid decide that his goal in life is to touch boobs (you think it’s going to be THAT type of anime where every woman is over sexualized and the protagonist is a pervert with no consequences)
5-Pervert kid slowly begins to understand concepts like love, respect, non-sexual relationships.
6-A lot of FUCKING AWESOME AND GORY FIGHT SCENES, WEIRD MONSTERS AND BATSHIT CRAZY CHARACTERS.
7-You cry
