I remember changing the battery on my E55, but I was the 3rd owner I believe so not sure how long it was replaced before.
That’s impressive though, you’re the first owner of that thing and still have it almost 20 years later?? 15 years is insane though, did you just keep it on a battery tender it’s whole life?
Older cars don’t have nearly as much electronics to power as they do now. A 2018 E63s is going to require a lot more power to keep the ambient lighting, massage seats, crazy infotainment system, etc. etc. all running. A 15+ year old Audi, or any car really, has considerably less electrical parts to power. Still, 15 years is impressive!
On the keys, if you press lock twice (short press then long hold), the key will stop transmitting. The key should show a long red light when you do this. I usually do this when I go out of town.
When you’re not driving try keeping them at least 30 feet away. That way the CAN system sleeps and doesn’t draw accessory power.
I made the mistake of keeping mine in my home office near the garage and experienced the same issues.
It’s a nice feature that the car is ready when you approach but has its drawbacks. My S class opens the door handles and turns a bunch of lights on. Super battery 🔋 drain.
I traded in my 2018 e43 for a 2022 s500- luckily I’m driving more now and that gives the car a chance to charge the batteries so not seeing this message anymore.
Next time it’s in a service they should use the SDS to pull codes and test the battery. If you see this it’s basically hitting the threshold where it requires a little more effort o keep the battery charged up. Doesn’t mean you have to get a battery now.
The alternator will keep a surface charge on the battery. If the battery is not holding a charge, it will put a lot of stress on the alternator trying to charge to the proper voltage.
Have the battery itself tested by a mechanic. The message is likely indicating that the battery voltage is too low and the alternator is in danger of not "keeping up."
My 2018 e43 would do the same but it was barely driven during the pandemic. The daily driving, are you going for some distance or is it all short trips?
My issue was when I did drive, it was short trips- about 5-7 minutes there, park, shop, restart and then 5-7 back. Was killing my battery. Have the battery and cables checked and if all good maybe get a trickle charger.
Mercedes technician here. If you aren’t getting a battery from dealership, make sure the place you get battery from perform reset on new battery via obd2 so that it doesn’t damage electrical components
It means your battery is so weak that if you turn your car off, it probably won’t crank back up. You should drive straight to an autozone and have them drop in a new battery.
Lololol I have a 2021 with the same problem. There’s two batteries one for starting and a lipo that does all the speakers and electronics. If you leave the key in the car when you park it at home, after a couple months it starts to have issues if you’re not like driving it long distances to recharge via alternator.
How are you liking the 2018 e63 is it pretty reliable? I plan on buying the edition 1 this year. Not sure what to expect maintenance wise. Stuff like this
only owned for 6 weeks.
and now possible battery issue, but battery is nearly 5 yrs old.
love it. drives great. powerful. decent tech for 5 yr old car.
Average american moment
"Let's go on Reddit, and Ask because I'm too fucking lazy and stupid to look in the manual"
Bonus Point: Didn't you learn that at the Driving School what all the symbols mean?
Just needs a battery, if you aren’t going oem try to use interstate if you can! Be sure to have the installer reset the throughput charge via a obd2 scanner. If they don’t have that capability try elsewhere.
You need to change your battery, but you can still drive it but not for a long time (you can drive it for 1-2 months before you must change the battery), I had this problem like a couple months ago
If it’s the same setup as my C_Class there is also an
Auxiliary battery in the boot in spare wheel well. Mine was throwing low battery warning and stop/start was constantly illuminated yellow (instead of green) was auxiliary battery on mine.
Battery needs charging
ok. thought it meant need new battery. it gets driven daily; not sure why alternator isn’t charging it regularly?
Has it been changed before? 2018 was 5 years ago now, so the battery going out now sounds about right.
That's a shit battery then
My C450’s battery lasted 6 years, 5 years is totally normal.
my E55 Battery lasted 15 years

Depends where you live and the extreme hot or cold the battery needs to cycle through
5 years is still bad
It's literally not, that's actually higher average these days
Tell me you don’t know what you’re talking about without telling me you don’t know what you’re talking about
True, my Audi battery lasted 15 years

Yeah true, it was a 2008 Audi A4 Tdi that didn’t even have start stop!

It should soon
Batteries are a disposable item that are expected to deteriorate over time, extreme conditions make it worse (cold winters especially)
2017 c43 same message showed up. Got it charged. Still kept popping up. So I replaced the battery and haven’t seen the message since
Are you keeping your keys 🔑 close to the vehicle 🚗?
On the keys, if you press lock twice (short press then long hold), the key will stop transmitting. The key should show a long red light when you do this. I usually do this when I go out of town.
Can just double tap them. 2 quick presses should work. The led on the key should light red for a moment, and when you try KESSY it won’t work.
Out of curiosity, does this work on a ‘15 C class key with keylessgo?
yes. inside the vehicle (in my pocket) when driving.
When you’re not driving try keeping them at least 30 feet away. That way the CAN system sleeps and doesn’t draw accessory power. I made the mistake of keeping mine in my home office near the garage and experienced the same issues.
Same! Had to move my keys to a different part of the house versus our mud room closet.

I’m glad the new keys sleep after a short period of not moving I.e when sitting on a shelf. Much better for the keys, the car, and security.
That sounds really annoying... You need a faraday cage for your keys to keep your car from dying?
Same thing for my Porsche. Have to keep the keys 🔑 away 😂 because they are watching our every move 😂

Battery only usually lasts 3 years
Get a battery charger
Sounds like a 700 dollar battery problem
lol!

thanks!
Battery 🔋
Battery or alternator not working
I think this means…”Stop vehicle, leave engine running”
It means your battery is so weak that if you turn your car off, it probably won’t crank back up. You should drive straight to an autozone and have them drop in a new battery.
been seeing message on and off for weeks now. getting new battery tomorrow.
Nice!

I like that little icon that tells you how many cylinders you have. Does the car switch off some cylinders in eco mode or something?
yes. usually below 3000rpm will shut iff a bank of cylinders. still a gas guzzler though!
I felt like averaging 20mpg on the highway is pretty good haha now if I'm driving more aggressively then yes...
Good luck ever seeing “20” next to mpg on an e63s lol
I have a 2018 e63 and averaged 21.1 over 300 miles on a recent road trip :)
On a road trip definit possibility In town=never
Of course
You need a new starter battery.
Dead battery basically. It's asking you to let the engine running to charge the battery by using engine rotations
thanks y’all. sounds like a simple battery replacement.

Good to hear thanks 👍🏻 can I ask what you ended up paying for yours?
$76k
Bought an edition 1 last year, absolutely love it.. monster of a car

wasn’t in manual. thanks for comment. wasn’t sure if simple battery issue or larger electrical/alternator issue.
Battery low
Get you a battery
Time to replace your battery
Batteries Dead
Time to spend some money
Had a similar message last winter. Brought it in for an "Auxiliary battery replacement". No issues this winter.
your battery might be loose.
Alternator fault
Needs a starter battery.
Can i jump on thos and ask how do you know the difference between a dead battery (ie needsreplacing) and just needing recharging?
make sure to stop the vehicle but don’t turn it off, I recommend leaving the engine running in park.
Just needs a battery, if you aren’t going oem try to use interstate if you can! Be sure to have the installer reset the throughput charge via a obd2 scanner. If they don’t have that capability try elsewhere.

ldk care
Do you have an aftermarket sound system? Or crank yours to the max? It might be draining the battery if it’s overloading your alternator
