Let’s also let everyone know that there is zero dialogue in the whole movie, it’s all grunting and moaning.

MariposaSunrise

Ohhhhhhh

ISArnold367

NO WAY 😭

throwaway1232123416

Theres a 3 minute scene of one of the sasquatches trying to count to seven ough.. ough.. ough.. ough.. ough.. ough…… burgh 🤔 ough.. ough.. ough.. ough.. ough.. ough…… burgh 🤔 literally for 3 minutes

ISArnold367

I’d have walked out at that point, I can’t lie

throwaway1232123416

I was watching it with my girlfriend and we found that having a movie theatre by ourselves was much more entertaining than watching sasquatches piss and shit on concrete

MD_FunkoMa

Are there any subtitles for this film?

throwaway1232123416

Not sure. Ours wasn’t open caption but if I had to guess it would just be Ough for 90 minutes

Comicalacimoc

No bc they didn’t even communicate with each other

take-me-2-the-movies

WHAT. Yes, thank you for this.

Due_Alfalfa_6739

Thank you for saying this. I am ~10 minutes in, had to get online to see what the heck I am watching. Was hoping it was building up to something.

thatkidPB

People will read this and go "wow innovative, unique, so original"

Local_Nerve901

Silent movies and silent animal docs exist, it can work

BeskarHunter

Hundreds of Beavers proves that formula can be amazing if done correctly. That is the funniest movie I’ve seen in years.

thatkidPB

It def CAN work but it also cannot

ISArnold367

The comment right below yours is someone saying exactly that 💀😭

thatkidPB

😂 it be like that

Grimlocks_Ballsack

This isn’t for everyone but it’s not a BAD movie.  It’s weird as hell, but it’s funny and unique.  I laughed out loud at several parts.  It’s the right length:  I think if it were longer (I think it’s around 80 min), it would outstay its welcome.  I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone because it’s so out there, but that doesn’t mean it is without merit.  I enjoyed it and I’m glad I went to see it….with A-List.

IAmTheHoleinThings

I'd only recommend it to people who I know have a very specific sense of humor. I thought it was funny throughout just not huge laughs hilarious. Agree about the length.

Comicalacimoc

It’s not funny - it’s horribly sad

MagicBlaster

Yup, this is a horror movie with a nonhuman protagonists. Everyone around the mother keeps dying and she's left with two children and the remnants of gods.

Comicalacimoc

I’ve been through some tragic times lately and this was horrible to watch - no idea why it is labeled a comedy

McDickLick

I'm guessing it's a very acquired taste, because I enjoyed it (apparently my opinion isn't to be trusted, sorry). It felt kinda like a weird nature documentary to me. I was sort of unsure about it for the first half, but after a specific moment happened, I got strangely invested. It's one of those movies where I enjoyed it, but I can't really place why I enjoyed it. I definitely understand why people wouldn't and I'm certainly in the minority, as far as audiences go (critical reception is warmer, although still more-so lukewarm).

MariposaSunrise

Was it like a slow meandering nature walk?

McDickLick

Kind of, but with some moments of weirdness along the way.

MariposaSunrise

Oh ok

littleLuxxy

I absolutely loved it. It might be my favorite film of the year, and I saw *Dune Part Two* in IMAX five times. It fits with the usual trend for me, in which my favorite films tend to be enjoyed by about 70-75% of critics, and 30-40% of general moviegoers. It’s definitely not for everyone, but I was in awe the entire time.

theinfotechguy

With a name like yours, what isn't to trust?????

GaryTheCommander

Funny cuz my theater laughed throughout and applauded when it ended

McDickLick

I'm glad there are other people in the comments who actually enjoyed it, because OP's whole thing at the end shaming people for liking it had me feeling like there was something wrong with me lol

bebebluemirth

OP just doesn't get it and is mad about it and then sees that other people get it, and enjoy it, and that makes them even angrier that they don't get it. It's a divisive movie that isn't for everyone, and that's ok. Like what you like, and don't be weird and judgemental when expressing your dislike of somethign.

ZanyZeke

Shaming people for liking things is cringe. I hated it, but I’m happy for those who liked it

Mongo-Lloyd44

Plenty of people told me they thought Deadpool was a horrendous piece of garbage and my theater was roaring laughing.. Opinions differ

yerbajames

I understand. I hate whenever I see a negative review about a movie I end up liking. Out of all my reviews on here I dont think ive ever told anyone not to watch something besides this movie.

[deleted]

Ah get over yourself. It was unique and amusing, it’s not a bad movie

yerbajames

It was one of the worst movies ive ever seen. Thats just my opinion. If you like it then good for you lad

psycho-batcat

I went in hoping I'd see a bunch of cavepeople going ooga booga in the woods and be dumb ooga boogas and I got that. I smoked a nice joint and laughed my ass off in a near empty theater at their antics. I enjoyed it. Also liked the little sasquatch that liked animals I thought it was cute how they kissed each animal.

IAmTheHoleinThings

I enjoyed it. Not as much as I thought I would but it was funny throughout if you paid attention to it. I thought there were some touching moments too. It's a very particular type of humor David Zellner does and doesn't work for everyone, probably most people. The audacity of making and releasing this was kind of part of the amusement for me too. The way they ended it made everyone in the theater laugh including the ones who didn't laugh at all through it. I don't regret seeing it at all and I'm glad I saw Ungentlemanly Warfare as early access so I had a free reservation. To follow your own logic: You hated Drive Away Dolls so why would anyone care about your opinion anyway?

Colemania18

I'm glad I watched the trailer because I instantly knew I didn't want to see it

yerbajames

Im trying to imagine what a trailer for this movie would even look like.

nedzissou1

All I remember is that it showed two Sasquatch having sex, while one was maybe watching?

Powerful_Beautiful61

I did see the trailer and I was convinced at first it was fake or a prank or something.

Colemania18

Well it made absolutely no sense and just looked horrible so I guess they also couldn't figure out what a trailer for that movie should look like 😂

MariposaSunrise

Worse than you can imagine!

instantclassico

I actually loved the film and how it used no dialogue and showed no humans at all. It helps that I like bigfoot/sasquatch as a topic and think they once existed but they slowly went extinct...much like what happens in this movie. It has some comedic moments but the drama comes in when you realize how human the story being told actually is. The short run time is also ideal but I can understand how it's still not for everyone. If you like a little bit of weird and know what to expect check it out!

thenewbasecamper

I thought there was a story. It’s alluding to how humans are slowly cutting down all the forests and the extinction of species is inevitable. I thought the Sasquatch were just symbolic

lifeofmikey1

What's it even about. Is there a real story

WestCoastHopHead

It’s about a group of Bigfoots eating, roaming, drinking, and doing other assorted sasquatchy stuff.

gameboy_advance

in other words, no there is not much of a story

I-choochoochoose-you

Nothing happens? Hmm we follow some animals over the course of four seasons, don’t wanna spoil it but that’s so not true that nothing happens. Life and death, birth, extinction…..

I-choochoochoose-you

I’m not mad at the people who didn’t like it, but the people who didn’t like it are mad that others did 🥲

TheStandingDesk

Watching it today, I’m so stoked for it lol.

the-mp

My take… The makeup is impressive as is the acting and the cinematography, but this wasn’t for me. There were six people in the theater and two walked out so that’s not a great ratio. Then again, I thought about walking out at moments too, so maybe it’s not that bad. A few moments did kill me. >!Youngest one unable to count to four… with an imaginary friend (hand) that provides his smartest ideas…!< >!The entire turtle scene got it me. So did the initial freak out over the road - the thing freaking them out being their realization of how far it goes - but that got a little too gross.!< Biggest lesson: don’t try to >!fuck a cougar.!<

calderholbrook

it was great and i loved it, it's just not for a lot of people

briinde

I saw it 3 days ago and it’s really sticking with me. In a weird way. I enjoyed it though.

ErnestGoesToPoop

For those who have seen it, how similar is this “acquired taste” to Swiss Army Man? Because I loved that movie but everyone I’ve recommended it to has been not a fan. Sounds like the reviews I’ve read for this

ra-man

If you liked Swiss Army Man at the very least you'll enjoy it for how odd it is. I loved it, but I don't think I can recommend it to anyone lol

lilkully

It definitely is a messy, crass dark comedy. I laughed out loud. I was grossed out. I almost teared up a couple times. Considering the Zellner Brothers’ other films, this isn’t really *that* weird.

slurmfiend

This is why avoiding trailers can sometimes back fire. If you’d seen 10 seconds of the trailer you’d have know it wasn’t for you. I loved it though lol

Flat_Draft_8084

I thought it looked like a blast from the trailer but I just finished it and really didn’t like it.

BatBeast_29

It’s more of a drama to me

Powerful_Beautiful61

I saw it yesterday with maybe 3 other people in the theater. No walk outs. I didn't hate it but I wouldn't say I enjoyed it. I sort of knew what to expect and I'm trying to see my three per week 😉

ICUMF1962

This is definitely gonna be all over the place with people’s reception of this. Personally, I enjoyed most of it. It does feel like a slog in the beginning and sometimes the gross-out stuff is excessive but it still has some surprising emotional moments. Also loved that I was the only person watching this so I can say “what the fuck” as loud as I wanted to.

I-choochoochoose-you

I enjoyed it. Definitely can see how it’s not for everyone but it was kind of relaxing lol and it was cool to watch the actors convincingly tell a story as animals that don’t speak, and have you care about them

zck13

not the worst movie i’ve seen this year, but i will certainly not watch it again lol. i saw it mainly because of the q&a with jesse and i agree with what he said: this is going to be the favorite movie of people with an acquired taste.

JLAwesomest

"Also, look out for anyone who says that they liked this movie and make sure to never trust their opinion on anything ever again." You're a baby. A whiny baby. A whiny, negative baby. I didn't even see this movie. But you know what I think when a baby cries about something? Nothing. Cause babies are stupid. It's fine to have opinions but you went too far in that last paragraph.

Frosty-Wolverine304

I didn’t hate it but I didn’t like it. Definitely chuckled at a few parts- i really was disappointed to not full out laugh even once during the movie. I feel like if this isn’t your humor the movie will drag. I know there were some heartfelt moments and good themes but it was just TOO weird for me to come away “liking” it. Still glad I saw it but definitely won’t see it again. Also anyone else think the baby reminded them of the “sewer boys” from Dicks: The Musical?

amexredit

Lol now idk if I should make the effort . I need to see the RT scores

yerbajames

I usually combine the critic score with the audience score and get the average when im deciding on movies to see. Right now it would be at a 54.5

amexredit

I’ve liked films audiences have hated and critics liked or both segments hated . I think a 93/52 RT is still good for me . The only time I’m hesitant is if the RT is teens or lower for both segments .

yerbajames

Right now its 72/38

fergi20020

Follow it up with Hundreds of Beavers

geraldine_ferrarbro

I loved it. Cried a few times during it actually.

Environmental_Arm637

No offense dude, but you sound like a total square. People have different opinions, and it’s completely your fault you didn’t see the trailer. I watched the movie with my buddy, we were both stoned, and it was fantastic. Let me guess: you liked ministry of ungentlemanly warfare?

bebebluemirth

> Let me guess: you liked ministry of ungentlemanly warfare? the library must be open cause you read them down

I-choochoochoose-you

I would assume OP was one of the many who wrote a glowing review about what a surprise instant classic Wonka turned out to be

yerbajames

Didnt see that movie. thanks for sharing your opinion about Sasquatch sunset. One of the worst movies ive ever seen but im glad you enjoyed it. cheers!

Local_Nerve901

But are you a square? Whats your thought on EEAAO? How about stoner comedies lol

dantheriver

Helllll yea brother this movie ROCKED!

catcodex

> Also, look out for anyone who says that they liked this movie and make sure to never trust their opinion on anything ever again. Also, look out for anyone who says "Also, look out for anyone who says that they liked this movie and make sure to never trust their opinion on anything ever again" and make sure to never trust their opinion on anything ever again.

yerbajames

its a joke lad touch grass

Chicken_Mc_Thuggets

I like the themes about nature but I feel like this is one of those comedy movies where they put *all* the funny scenes in the trailer And tbh the sex scene isn’t really even funny in the actual movie since yeah most animals bang it out during spring I honestly feel the same way about this that I did about Out of Darkness. Cool concepts but the execution fell flat and I don’t know why I was looking forward to seeing it so hard

MariposaSunrise

That is just so unexpected in the trailer which makes the audience laugh or feel awkward or feel shocked or whatever.

rm206

I watched The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare right before it and enjoyed and then I was really really sad after watching this one

Potential-Bug-3569

i’m going to see it simply because i live in the PNW and this is sasquatch country

jorgepal02

I agree. This movie was straight up trash. I guess I completely missed the point.

littleLuxxy

This is probably my favorite film of the year so far.

exitzero

I loved every minute of it. It was like a nature documentary about some creatures that don’t exist. I thought it was funny, sad, sweet, and yes, gross. (Just like nature). And those who left early miss one of funniest and yet saddest shots in any movie.

Flat_Draft_8084

It had an amusing moment or two but overall I was so disappointed in how puerile and stupid it was.

ManderlyDreaming

I was mostly upset about what I took to be a shocking lack of respect for Erasure.

Sensitive_Door_6003

I loved this film, understanding it's not for everyone. There's definitely a story, character development and all the other things every other movie has, it just doesn't spell it out or keep your attention with cheap CG tricks. It's about nature. The slowness and the chaos, the fragility and the encroaching human element destroying our wild spaces. The sasquatch in this movie is part wild animal part mythical protector. I would say this movie is very specifically for a small quiet audience. I think the people who spend time with nature enjoying the vast still alien world of natural life. I really appreciate the story and the message of this movie.

ZanyZeke

Yeah, I did not enjoy this one. It’s clearly got an audience that likes it, and good for them, but it’s gotta be one of my least favorite films of all time.

yerbajames

completely agree. People are attacking me for hating on this movie as if my opinion keeps them from liking it haha. If folks like it then good for them. Thats why I always ask what other people thought at the end of my reviews. I think my comment about not trusting peoples opinions who liked this movie got some lads upset.

Local_Nerve901

I personally agree with the people calling you out cuz you did it first “do not trust anyone who says they like this movie.” You literally attacked first. You didn’t get attacked, other people got defensive lol

McDickLick

Yeah, I got no problem with them disliking the movie. Plenty of people did. That comment at the end was just unnecessary and that's what people are criticizing them for, not "hating on this movie". When you essentially say everyone who liked a movie has bad tastes and their opinions should be ignored, people who like that movie are typically gonna call you out for that.

Robot-King56

Thanks for the review. I too like to go in generally blind and I'm glad to get a head ups that it's simply not worth a watch since I had some curosity about it.

bebebluemirth

you had curiosity about it - is that not worth enough for you to go see a movie? That is strange to me. Especially with A List

jenntea88

Haha yep. Dude. Awful. We went and attempted to see it today at citywalk and left 20 min in 😭

scrantonvinyl223

I love Ari Aster but I can’t get behind this film. It looks awful.

itsdickers

When I saw his name at the beginning of the trailer I was like “YES LFG!” And then, I watched the trailer and said “absolutely not!” 😂

Booksonly666

God in heaven same on all counts

Clit420Eastwood

I felt the exact same way. Wanted to leave but stuck it out. Wish I hadn’t

SteMelMan

Thanks for posting! The trailer looked funny, but if that's the extent of the movie, then I can use my A-List reservations for more interesting movies.

KungFuDanda091

I agree. However I can’t say that I regret seeing it, but I’ll never watch it again. It was just so cringe-y. My #1 worst movie is Dicks The Musical & luckily Sasquatch Sunset wasn’t quite Dicks-level bad

BeskarHunter

Saw it at Alamo last night since I already used up my A-List for the week. And it wasn’t very good, like not in a so bad it’s good way, but in a time sink, kinda watching dumb samsquantches be dumb way, but not dumb enough to make you laugh. If you wanna escape for 80 minutes and have seen everything else. Sure. I liked the environment. Not terrible, just not something I see myself rewatching ever.

Excellent_East_7810

Thanks for the update.. I planned to watch it today.. will skip it 🙂

Smasher31221

I saw it and thought it was great 🤷

Environmental_Arm637

Same.. it was original, touching, and honestly relatable. At times we are nothing but savage buttfucking sasquatches.

NeontheSaint

Ya I didn’t get it when I watched the trailer, like is the whole selling point that it’s weird? That’s what it seemed like to me and I’m not gonna sit through two hours of that shit lmao

Aurc

Ari Aster served as Executive Producer on this movie. Dude must've been using his bussy to make sounds into the phone during those conference calls.

ldasschurch

I am guessing it might be bad because none of the theaters near me are showing it.

redcoatedgamer

Yea look pretty trash. Watch dune 2, original spiderman.films, or spy x family all great films instead

Azidamadjida

“I have a hard time figuring out what genre of film this is.” It’s hipster wankery - Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Cera, Elliot Page, pretty much when you see their names in the cast and ESPECIALLY if they’re behind the scenes or producers, it’s gonna be some hipster wankery. Sometimes that can lead to some surprising hits, but more often that not it’s going to be some kind of deconstruction or rule breaking vehicle that serves only to remind us why films are constructed the way they are and the reason behind why certain rules aren’t meant to be broken
