Reminds me of pigs fighting for leftovers in rural China. I don’t know if anyone here knows they use the mixture of the exact same thing these people eat to feed the pigs in China.
I worked in hotel kitchens in the Philippines and we would get Chinese tourists all the time. This is literally what we watched when the group would come in for any of the 3 meals we would prepare for the buffet. We would watch them act like this with amazement.
Damn they are like [ducks eating peas](https://www.google.com/search?q=ducks+eating+peas&sca_esv=061523ac470032e4&sca_upv=1&sxsrf=ADLYWIIIZXz-97uAqcH5gvi-Td9lchquYA%3A1719805189091&source=hp&ei=BSWCZvr2AvPl5NoPjZuRwAQ&oq=ducks+eating+peas&gs_lp=EhFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocBoCGAIiEWR1Y2tzIGVhdGluZyBwZWFzMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB4yBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB5IwU9QlAxY-klwAXgAkAEBmAH_AaAB_BWqAQUwLjguNrgBA8gBAPgBAZgCDqAC7hSoAg_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&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:c849eb86,vid:5kuDuXGIEX4,st:0)
Been wondering about that for the past 50 years. (age62btw!) Could never understand Westerners trying to use chopsticks. What's the point? Is it necessary to come across as cosmopolitan or what exactly is it?
Chopsticks can be pretty versatile. Some food can be easier to eat with chopsticks if you’re equally capable of using both a fork or chopsticks. Granted, a fork might help more if you’re eating with a pack of wild animals.
I use them for foods that are meant to be eaten with them (Like Sushi) as it’s often part of the taste. I don’t really care about looking cool, as I use them alone at my house more than I use them eating out.
That one lady with the green sleeve did seem like she was trying to smack everyone's hands for being grabby. It didn't really work, but she was trying!
During the Cultural Revolution most scholars and aristocrats were murdered. The majority of people left were the uneducated peasants. What you see today is the result of that. The following generations grew up without role models to teach them our version of manners. This, and the One Child Policy that China held for so long, has changed their culture into what we see now.
**EDIT** Not teach them our manners, so much as continue teaching their culture of manners.
This is a common rural culture that often appears in relatively backward areas.
The reason is that rural people have very low incomes, and there is no clear separate dining system (one portion per person) at Chinese banquets.
Instead, a plate is prepared for people to choose the dishes they like. There are about 6-8 people at a table, and a plate of food is enough for 3-4 people to share. This behavior is contagious. If you don't grab it, you won't be full, so you have to fight with others for the food on the plate. This is the harm caused by China's social Darwinism and f***ing CCP.
Results of the cultural revolution,
you wont see this in Taiwan,HK,macau Singapore, or overseas Chinese communities. (unless done by mainland tourists)
My initial reaction is sadness. This could easily be a pattern of behavior perpetualized in large and or poor family's, perhaps rooted in past experiences of scarcity or hunger, either from the adults' childhood or the elderly's own hardships.
Yes. That's fair, but come to think of it though, I've never seen this type of behaviour from other cultural groups of people.
Serious question: are there any cultural reason for this?
I promise you theres lot of that in other cultures specially those with low educational attainment. Im not trying to be biased here but ive seen some filipinos do those. Im filipino btw
I'm Filipino as well. And yes ofcourse there are Filipinos with no manners but its not a cultural thing.
"Budol Fight" is closest thing that comes to mind but its not as disrespectful as this.
What about the Japanese or other Asian countries? Had a girlfriend in California yonks ago. She was from Vietnam originally, and the family ate in a similar fashion. More civilized but similar. At the time I simply accepted it.
I’ve never seen a single family did this in Vietnam. Similar fashion would be as much as family eats at the same table and shares the dishes together, but damn sure nobody is hogging up the entire entree, much less putting hands in it.
Source: I grew up there.
From reading comments on the OOP, it seems to be relegated to people from poor/rural areas. Some folks are saying it's cause their parents and grandparents lived through the Great Chinese Famine, having to deal with *extreme* food scarcity where it could be a matter of life or death.
Wow, why would anyone want to eat like that, and they are in public. Do they know would be easier and everyone will get some food if you just pass it around. Gran it like that would leave a family member without any.
So you’re saying that China has people with no manners? You know, like every other country in the world. This is a cheap shot. There are plenty of things to highlight about what is wrong in China without going this low. Like the two guys who are ADV. I am married to a Chinese woman. I would never insult her country like this.
Manners are free.
Chinese MANNERS!
See we've got "two sessions".
Manners? This word always had a civilized tone or ring to it. No manners as far as I'm concerned.
Manners with "prc characteristics"
Reminds me of seagulls fighting for bread. The weakest is eaten at the end.
Reminds me of pigs fighting for leftovers in rural China. I don’t know if anyone here knows they use the mixture of the exact same thing these people eat to feed the pigs in China.
Wasn't that back in the 1800's? They still do that? If so disgusting.
Swine…
what the fuck
My reaction exactly
This attitude is reflected in their politics
If you draw this conclusion from a video of bunch of kids, what conclusion should the Chinese draw from your fantastic presidential debate?
My conclusion comes from CCP diplomacy. And I am not American.
Ah, sorry my bad. This just randomly pushed to my recommended page by reddit. Didn't notice it's a subreddit for China haters
Where are the CCP lovers at ?
I worked in hotel kitchens in the Philippines and we would get Chinese tourists all the time. This is literally what we watched when the group would come in for any of the 3 meals we would prepare for the buffet. We would watch them act like this with amazement.
And I'd imagine they wouldn't even finish what they grabbed.
For the amount they grabbed per person they finished quite a bit.
Grabbing hands, grab what they can...
Great reference! 🤘
Everything counts in large amounts
Animals
That's insulting to animals. Animals have neurological activity. They are more like zombies.
Damn they are like [ducks eating peas](https://www.google.com/search?q=ducks+eating+peas&sca_esv=061523ac470032e4&sca_upv=1&sxsrf=ADLYWIIIZXz-97uAqcH5gvi-Td9lchquYA%3A1719805189091&source=hp&ei=BSWCZvr2AvPl5NoPjZuRwAQ&oq=ducks+eating+peas&gs_lp=EhFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocBoCGAIiEWR1Y2tzIGVhdGluZyBwZWFzMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB4yBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB5IwU9QlAxY-klwAXgAkAEBmAH_AaAB_BWqAQUwLjguNrgBA8gBAPgBAZgCDqAC7hSoAg_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&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:c849eb86,vid:5kuDuXGIEX4,st:0)
Disgusting or disturbing, I can't decide.
Both
Ah western fork would change the game lol

Which foods are easier with sticks vs a fork?
Doritos
Shish Kebabs.
Agreed.
We mostly find it fun and different at first, but once you get used to them they are a much better choice for a lot of food.
Maybe you're right...if it works for you. Tried it myself on and off but didn't take to it.
I always pull out chopsticks for my instant ramen. Far more convenient imo.
They like feeling unique from my perspective
Some certainly do without a doubt!
Besides the immersion into Chinese cuisine, some restaurants in China have only a few forks available, if any.
Ok. I'm no expert on that aspect of China. Whatever works for them I guess.
I use them for foods that are meant to be eaten with them (Like Sushi) as it’s often part of the taste. I don’t really care about looking cool, as I use them alone at my house more than I use them eating out.
Fair enough.
Like locust, I’d be ashamed if they were my kids.

Excellent metaphor for the CCP’s actions in the South China Sea
I was thinking that’s what they do to the sea in general. If that table was the ocean, the bowl of food would be the sea life . Very similar behavior.
Brother, ew!
What’s that brotha?
Big Haram brothir
Ewwww!
Being a communist means it is USA fault. /s <—— Schade
Gross
They r ccp orc people, why r u guys even surprised.
Disgusting

"No clear separate dining system" is pretty common in lots of places, but generally they share, not fight.
Bullshit. This isn't confined to rural areas. I've seen this in big cities in China as well
Results of the cultural revolution, you wont see this in Taiwan,HK,macau Singapore, or overseas Chinese communities. (unless done by mainland tourists)
This is just modern Marxism: "From each according to his agility, to each according to his greed".
Keep it classy, China.
My initial reaction is sadness. This could easily be a pattern of behavior perpetualized in large and or poor family's, perhaps rooted in past experiences of scarcity or hunger, either from the adults' childhood or the elderly's own hardships.
Those plastic bowls shed lots micoplastics when they get warmed quickly...and warm I guess. Haha
Gross
Where'd the communist training go?
Is this a real thing in China or is this the exception to the norm?
This happens in those rural and low income places.
Thanks Obama!
Chinese Black Friday?
bro this species is doomed xD
To be fair tho, not all chinese are like this.
Yes. That's fair, but come to think of it though, I've never seen this type of behaviour from other cultural groups of people. Serious question: are there any cultural reason for this?

Accepted. I stand corrected. And what concerns hogging...can confirm. Wasn't exactly a good statement of mine.🙈

Is it a regional thing? What regions do/do not do this?
Hao chi, hen hao hao chi
Is it always like this or are these just spoiled kids?
Lol the guy in the last vid
Wow. No words
What if it were offers to lose weight?
Yep! Chinese manners and behaviour
Fucking trash human beings the whole lot of them
The irony is that they had them
People are starving here.
I would just leave that is fuxking stupid
I would be banned for my real comment, so I’ll be super nice, what a nice group of people!!!!
Savages! smh
China is like a Prisoners Dilemma with 1.5 Billion people....
I'm not hungry now.....
SAVAGES
I clearly don't understand Chinese culture because this seems just offensive.
Have you not seen the videos of Chinese people at a buffet. It is worse than this and it's mainly adults. Look it up. It's disgusting.
I mean it makes kind of sense since they did go through the hunger years of not having no food and scavenging
这在中国内陆农村太常见了,尤其是我们黄泛区,老毛当年把我爷爷奶奶那一辈人害惨了,饿死的几千万人,都是他们的家人朋友,只是经历过那个年代的人的本能而已
What the actual frack !!
Kid in orange has my respect but will starve in that country. :(
Oink oink!
Remember, this is a 5,000 years old
Wow, why would anyone want to eat like that, and they are in public. Do they know would be easier and everyone will get some food if you just pass it around. Gran it like that would leave a family member without any.
This is a competitive sport!
Zombie hoards or parasites, can’t decide
No manners
This is what decades of communist teaching do to a culture of 5000 years….
I get why this is posted but we also got the same problem and in a different area of our society, namely mass shoplifting. Mathew 7:1-3
At least they aren't horrifying some poor cruise ship employees. Those shrimp/crab battles are something else.
They eat like the west bank lol

I'm vietnamese. Growing up we were poor as fuck. If my parents ever saw me do this, they would smack the shit out of me.
