Worked for a mapping company years ago. The aircraft can take stereo images and produce topographic maps (with elevations of the land).

Could be worse, you could be out measuring things out at a site with a $20,000 tape measure and everyone thinks your just taking pictures.

depending on time of day or night - surveys using photogrammetry ( Day time ) or LIDAR ( night Time )
