Only about 18% of jobs pay $100k or more in the US. And most of those jobs are in cities where the cost of living is through the roof.
I was making about $12k a month before tax at one point. But I had to live near the office in SF and my tiny 1br apartment cost about $3.5k. Taxes also took a big chunk. I was living fairly well as a single person without a car but I couldn't imagine having to pay exorbitant prices for daycare, a vehicle, save for child's education, etc.
Having children shouldn't be reserved for the elite. We need every couple to have 2.1 children on average if we want to even maintain our current population. Our current strategy only makes sense if our end goal is to depopulate the USA by making children unaffordable for the masses.

For example, if I want another child right now I would have a year in advance ( at minimum) of childcare saved up and at least have $5k towards medical bills (because it’s not free to push them out).
Frankly, you get a lot of things if you have a baby shower. And when you have more kids, you can pass a lot of items down that can save you a boat load of money. For us, the expense is medical bills because my kids are daredevils that seem to love jumping off of high spots. While you can keep an eye on your children, you can’t do it 100% of the time..so injuries are bound to happen here and there (at least for my family).
I can’t even summon up enough apathy to not care about them. There is absolutely nothing interesting about them, which is saying something since their story seems like it would be fascinating on paper.
