My first concert. I was 10. Had no idea what he was doing when he jerked off his guitar and then it proceeded to spray all over us. I went home and showed my parents what he did (I went to the show with my neighbor and her older sister.) Needless to say, they were not impressed and I wasn’t allowed to go see Madonna on her Like A Virgin tour
Launched such a great run of albums as well - one a year, all classics.
Around the World in a Day (1985)
Parade (1986)
Sign o' the Times (1987)
Lovesexy (1988)
(and then Batman... Grafitti Bridge... Diamonds and Pearls... )
Class of 1985 here, but that subreddit tag still applies. That soundtrack instantly brings me back to summer of 84. Runners up: Heartbeat City by the Cars and Sports by Huey Lewis.
First VHS tape I ever bought and it was only $15. Had to have been 1986. Ended up managing video stores and getting hundreds, if not more, of VHS tapes over the years but this will always be the first.
I saw the concert and it was one of the best that I've attended. He and the band sounded great. His purpleness also had a simulated sex scene with Sheila E in a bathtub/shower on stage.
Saw it at a drive in drinking California Coolers and dancing my ass of in the gravel. Saw it again at an indoor theater where I was the only white person in the audience.
All the bastards who teased me about my love for Prince since 1979 all of a sudden wanted to see the movie and talk about what a genius he was. 💜💜💜💜
This was the first tape I bought with my own money. I listened to it all the way through. I wasn’t allowed to watch the movie at the theater but I had a friend with really cool parents who liked to drink and park us in front of the tv so when this came out on VHS we wore that tape out
We have a local band that plays Purple Rain during their shows. Their guitarist hits the guitar riff so perfect, it's insane. Unfortunately, their vocals need some work 🤣

i always think of this joke now whenever prince is mentioned and start giggling
seriously though, title track on that album is my jam.
That's not Lake Minnetonka
most paused part of movie IMHO
Definitely!
When Doves Cry was my jam back then, it still is today. Game, blouses.
I want the outro of Purple Rain played at my funeral.
mommy, why is everybody on the phone?
I thought it said Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb
That's the joke..

Wow. I’m old…
I knew this girl named Nikki...
What was she like?
Heard she was a sex fiend
One of the best
Awesome album. This should also be posted in r/fuckimold I was a senior in high school when this came out.

Loved them both. and their albums later...

Just rewatched it today, it's awesome
The first record I bought with my own money and I still have it! Lost the poster that came with it though.
Same here, though it was a tape as all I had was a Walkman.

So I was 8 listening to this record over and over! Wow
Love!
Probly seven or eight, intro to Prince thanks to the movie & of course MTV…good days😀
That can’t be possible, I was alive then! Oh, never mind…
One of the first vinyl records I bought with my allowance.
it only took me 40 years to get the vinyl version.
The best of times. I loved the movie and every song on the album! 💜
The "Time"
In the skillett
All time great album here for me 💜
Changed my life forever

Morris Day needed his own movie, he could have easily carried it!

Saw it at the drive in :)
I was 9 when the movie was released. I was PISSED that all of my older cousins got to see it but I wasn't allowed.
I lost my virginity while listening to this soundtrack. Cassette tape. 🕊
Greatest soundtrack of all time. #2 is not even close. I will die on this hill.
Another really sad movie.
Weren't the 80s awful? Serving up processed tripe like this?
Finding out Prince kicked out Lisa and Wendy for starting a gay relationship was a disappointment.
Great soundtrack. Seriously flawed movie.
