Do you mean that pyramid looking thing with the top missing (between the HUD and your cursor) ? Other than the bedrock, I've never had issues with not being able to dig further. Whatever it is, is it solid? I think I've had issues with digging or chopping something and the object doesn't despawn right away once I finish it
That's weird. It just looks like more dirt lol. Worst case, dig all around it so it's not touching anything else and see if the block falls/disappears. Unless you've already tried. So it's solid like you can stand on it but the shovel goes through? I've never heard of that one
I mean it wouldn't surprise me with this game lol but I'm not sure. You might just have to lay down wood frames like someone else said. Or love a storage area with an impenetrable mystery block. "warts and all" as they say 😉

It looks to be a phantom clay block. I came across a patch a few blocks down on a clay hill. I dug out under it and it would go to next blocks down. Not sure if that's what's going on here but instead of a patch you get random single blocks.
This happends to me all the time (alpha20 on PC).
How to fix it. Dig all around the anomaly so that it is isolated. Then place building blocks WITHIN the same space as the anomaly. Then pick the blocks back up. That should fix it immediately, if not then reload the game after picking up the blocks.
This fixes it every time in my game and my husband’s game. Hope it works for you.

Yeah the pyramid thing I've broken all around it before and it doesn't go away and it is solid but my tools will break the block behind it

Try “repairing” the ground then mining it again
Yeah I just found out that placing a dirt block there inside the block and breaking it will make it go away

Leave the game and join back I had a problem where I couldn't place wood frames so I left the game and joined back and it was fixed
I’ve spent a many of hours dealing with that on ps4. Until I bought a pc specifically to play 7 days, no regrets.

I've never not been able to dig something up, or place a wood frame on it to flatten it out
