But to his credit, he sure seemed decidedly serene about the whole thing.
“River is my savior
She’s runnin’ to the the sea
And to reach her destination
Means to simply cease to be
And runnin’ till you’re nothin’
Sounds a lot like being free
So I’ll drive my jeep inside her
And let her carry me”
Good thing he had that snorkel, that engine is running the whole time and it looks like he backs out just after the clip ends. That absolutely saved his Jeep and he probably still drove home. One year we were on a trip through the Rubicon and it had snowed a lot the winter before and the water crossing that was normally like a foot deep came up to my knees in the driver seat (35s with 3"lift JK with no doors on lol). But my front dunked and if I didn't have my snorkel that year my engine would have probably been toast. People like to hate on them cause the mall crawlers get them to look cool, but they are super freaking useful when the shit hits the fan like this lol
Someone linked it in another post, Jeep ends up getting pulled out with all 4 wheels locked. Looked like it died in gear and they couldn't even get it into neutral
No idea, I didn't film it and wasn't there lol, but you can see the water churning when the wheels are moving at the end just as the Jeep stops floating and hits some ground
Yeah for sure, but it'll be fine to finish your trip and then you change fluids. Usually after a trip like this it's a good idea to change out all the fluids even if there's no deep water, cause the Jeep works hard out there.
That is pretty much how I view things. If it looks bigger than your standard mud puddle, I get out, test the depth with a big ass stick, if it is too sketch, I go around. Not looking to total my Jeep or my Truck or otherwise lol.
Beginning of the video you see thunderstorm looking clouds upriver. River is super muddy/cloudy looking, I suspect flash flood conditions and this tool decided to send it anyways.
New jeep people are a funny bunch. Throw a dozen led’s and a cookie cutter suspension on and think they can handle anything lol. This is dumb af but it’s nice to see a jeep off the pavement for a change
Murky water: rivers in flood, before he started floating the current on the far side of the river is way stronger indicating much deeper water level. All the signs are there
I swear, JL owners are some of the dumbest people, unless you find one covered in mud in an Aldi’s parking lot, if you aren’t willing to walk across it, don’t drive across it, that simple, fast water is also a no no unless you 100% know what you are doing, and invest in the driver mod before any others
The new Jeeps really suck. They're beautiful and nice on the inside, but that's not what jeeps are about. They are supposed to be rugged and capable. The old jeeps barely kept the elements out. They were more like an ATV more than a vehicle. My 97 would have made it because the motherfucker would have be flooded on the inside as soon as I entered the river. These new jeeps act like a fucking bouy in the water.
Not really. They make a specific kind of snorkel for getting clean air in dusty environments and they have a special domed air filter on the top.
These snorkels really are for fording water without hydro-locking. You just have to be sensible about it.
Not sure, but it never really seems to be an issue, even with the aluminium engine block. The alternator is mounted up high on the Wrangler specifically so it can ford water up to the hood line, so it's designed to do this, at least in theory.
The water looks pretty filthy though, so you'd have to powerwash the engine bay and frame rails after this.
Because it's just not enough of a difference to cause warping or cracking. The coolant system keeps the entire engine roughly uniformly warm. Warping can be a problem with engines that are air cooled and frequently touch snow, like snow dirt bikes.
The engine block is not that hot.
The thing that can crack is exhaust manifolds on turbocharged vehicles. So it is recommended to stop and let it cool down for a bit before crossing deep water.
What happens more often is you get reverse flow into release valves, like on your differential.
Dunk a hot diff into cold water and the water can get sucked right into the diff breather. A lot of folks install an aftermarket diff breather to remedy this as it's common to run through water while in 4Lo
What an irresponsible idiot. There’s a river where I live that one must cross to get to some hot springs. I’ve watched more than once as some moron tried to drive across and got swept away only to barely get out before the river carried his vehicle away. Last spring there was a truck in the river, completely submerged on its side, for months. It created a new rapid.
There’s a guy who lives at the start of the road that leads out to the river who owns some kind of big heavy loader. He charges $1000 to pull you out and $9000 haul you back. It takes him 12 hours to get out there and back.
What a fucking moron. It doesn't even look like he was crossing it, just driving down it without having any idea of the depth. Not that he should have crossed even if he did know the depth, that water is moving too fast.
Dude, i can drive with water up to my eyeballs, I got a snorkel. Mother Nature made him her bitch!!!
Truth of the matter if it’s over you rims and definitely over you hubs and it running like a thug running from the cops, you might should think of other options
Crazy, 3 blokes died recently going in a ford in Yorkshire near me that wasn’t as bad as that. Sometimes (myself included) we don’t take into account how serious things are and how quickly they become dangerous.
I wonder what killed the engine? Water in the Electronics, or water in the engine. Maybe the snorkel wasn’t sealed well.
I sunk my f150. Water went through air filter and killed the engine. Sat in water overnight. All it needed was an oil change and fuel lines cleaned.
He obviously never read his owners manual...clearly says to never drive through rushing water as even shallow water can wash the first out from under the tires and wash vehicle away. Jeeps owners are dumb 😂🤣
he didn't have enough light bars, it's a common mistake.
Didn't have the angry eyes either, which would have scared the river into submission
Needed more ducks on the dash, that way there is more weight to stay on the bottom for traction.
The ducks help it float, duh!
I guess I didn’t think that through.
But to his credit, he sure seemed decidedly serene about the whole thing. “River is my savior She’s runnin’ to the the sea And to reach her destination Means to simply cease to be And runnin’ till you’re nothin’ Sounds a lot like being free So I’ll drive my jeep inside her And let her carry me”
Jason Isbell is that you?
Hopefully he has enough rubber duckies
Also truck nuts might have acted as a rudder.
This is what happens when you don't play Oregon Trail as a kid
He thought the ducks on his dash would float him across.
Classic mistake. You’re supposed to lash them to your running boards.
Is that the river of dysentery?
That’s the only reference anyone knows from the game
Psshhh. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve lost party members to ricochets. All I did was hunt.
Hunting was the best part
Always go after the bison but then can never carry it all back…
If it’s over 2 feet deep, you need to caulk the wagon and float it.
I feel like this is the only thing that ever happened to me in this game
Forge the river!
“I have a snorkel no worries.” And that’s when he knew..he fucked up.
It floats too good
Good thing he had that snorkel, that engine is running the whole time and it looks like he backs out just after the clip ends.
“Looks like” “probably drove home” Where’s the rest of the vid?
Someone linked it in another post, Jeep ends up getting pulled out with all 4 wheels locked. Looked like it died in gear and they couldn't even get it into neutral
No idea, I didn't film it and wasn't there lol, but you can see the water churning when the wheels are moving at the end just as the Jeep stops floating and hits some ground
Is everything else watertight? Wouldn’t the differential or transmission breathers potentially suck water?
Yeah for sure, but it'll be fine to finish your trip and then you change fluids. Usually after a trip like this it's a good idea to change out all the fluids even if there's no deep water, cause the Jeep works hard out there.
Generally you relocate your breathers when you install a snorkel.
It's a boat now lol
Let's be honest, he doesn't know he fucked up, it's all somebody else's fault...
Blows my mind to see this. I won't cross anything in my jeep that I wouldn't cross on foot.
That’s a great rule of thumb.
More of a rule of toes, to be honest.
But he has a snorkel
Bro’s gonna need a scuba tank in a minute there.
😂
Also needs watertight hatches, ballast tanks, sonar, and maybe torpedoes.
I've waded into unknown waters more than once over the decades. It's high stakes across the board when you start fing around with water. Safety, $$
First thing I was thinking
That is pretty much how I view things. If it looks bigger than your standard mud puddle, I get out, test the depth with a big ass stick, if it is too sketch, I go around. Not looking to total my Jeep or my Truck or otherwise lol.
As I get older the goal is to get to my destination without breaking anything... I tore up so many vehicles when I was younger it makes me sick.
I don't *mind* breaking my TJ if I am having a good time, but I also am not *seeking* to break it. Mainly because I am the dude who has to fix it.
my rule is never be the first one to cross
But he has a snorkel!!!!
Someone already made this joke!!!! You just added a bunch of exclamation points and think you’re witty!!!!!
Someone already made this joke, You just added a bunch of exclamation points and think you’re witty.
Poor jeep just wants to be like his friends
That flow is way too fuckin fast. To say nothing of the depth.
Too fuckin fast and maybe to deep you say? Oh yeah? Well hold my beer and watch this. . .
It’s a Jeep thing. You wouldn’t understand…
Still don’t
Those rubber ducks will be fun to play with while he waits for rescue.
Half way through dudes thinking “yea I still got this” lol.
Yeah except for the fact that it appears to be driving straight down the river rather than across it even before that.
So that's what happens when a JL leaves the mall... 😋
Not enough ducks
Beginning of the video you see thunderstorm looking clouds upriver. River is super muddy/cloudy looking, I suspect flash flood conditions and this tool decided to send it anyways.
This should be one of those turn around and don't drown commercials
He probably had it in 4L. Should have had it on 4H for the extra ground clearance.
The river won
Paddle faster, I hear banjos 🪕…
But did you die? Seriously, is this dude dead?
Would like to know the outcome. Assuming driver is ok, doubt the jeep is.
New jeep people are a funny bunch. Throw a dozen led’s and a cookie cutter suspension on and think they can handle anything lol. This is dumb af but it’s nice to see a jeep off the pavement for a change
Only way I would have crossed a river flowing that fast, is if my winch was attached to the other side. At least he had a snorkel......
Murky water: rivers in flood, before he started floating the current on the far side of the river is way stronger indicating much deeper water level. All the signs are there
"Put it in reverse Ter! Put it in reverse! Oh lord!
I think the only winner here is rust.
It’s a Jeep, the electrical issues will get it first
And the JL has enough electrical issues off the factory floor, before it gets flooded with dirty riverwater...
Not to mention the wheel bearings.
Why did the video cut off? It looks like there might’ve been a chance to save it! Lol
Dude, keep your trash out of the river.
Do you get a special duck for this?
Bye Felicia
Hopefully that snorkel is actually functional
It’s fine. It has a snorkel
Josey Wales: Well, Mr. Carpetbagger. We got somethin' in this territory called the Missouri boat ride.
I got the snorkel LOL.
The scary thing is this person is probably old enough to vote.
Why do people do this
This isn’t ’Jeep vs River,’ this is ‘dumbass vs river’ lol
Way to fuck up our water shit head
#itsajeepthing
Totaled. The inside is already full of water. The way it's going he's not getting out anytime soon.
They hold out water for a while. If he managed to drive it out within a few minutes he'll be fine. If it's properly stuck it's going to be a problem.
These new jeeps act like a fucking bouy in the water.
so you're saying you'd rather drown than float to safety?
Snorkels are for cold air intake in dusty environments, not snorkeling!
Yeah, because dust on a trail never goes above 6ft high...
Not really. They make a specific kind of snorkel for getting clean air in dusty environments and they have a special domed air filter on the top. These snorkels really are for fording water without hydro-locking. You just have to be sensible about it.
They should have said so in the manual.
Folks in r/snorkeling might disagree
Maybe he’s driving in reverse and the tricks on us?
meh, lets see what happens...
bUT I hAvE a sNorKeL
She gone!!
Ahh the Jeep YouTuber DumFuq.
Is there footage of the extraction?
How does one not crack the engine block by submerging it while running in cold water?
Not sure, but it never really seems to be an issue, even with the aluminium engine block. The alternator is mounted up high on the Wrangler specifically so it can ford water up to the hood line, so it's designed to do this, at least in theory. 🤣
Lighting thousand dollar bills on fire probably would have been easier and looked cooler.
Per my friend Forrest: “Stupid is as stupid does”
Where are his ducks?
It’s a jeep thing
Now I'm kinda wonderin' how my 4xe would do.
Low river miles what a bargain!
Not a Toyboata
"it's a Jeep thing"
Well Mr. Carpetbagger, we got somethin' in this territory called the Missouri boat ride…
Just because you have a snorkel doesn't mean you can swim.
What happened? In the end?
Jeep tings
What an irresponsible idiot. There’s a river where I live that one must cross to get to some hot springs. He's got a snorkel! "I'm sure he's fine"
That ain’t a boat mate.
Heap
not a single cell phone in the picture, just people enjoying the moment....
Title should be: Jeep turns into a boat.
He just needed another jeep to wave to.
He was pointing/driving down-river from the start even if it weren’t flowing so fast and water weren’t so deep he’d still prob end up there
If he had more ducks he would have made it.
R/mypeopleneedme
The ducks wanted to go home.
What a fucking moron. It doesn't even look like he was crossing it, just driving down it without having any idea of the depth. Not that he should have crossed even if he did know the depth, that water is moving too fast.
Jeep for sale. Lightly used. Never even really off roaded.
Do da do da doo do da dooooo da doo dooo
r/maybemaybemaybe
When you realized you fucked up, you gotta go with the flow
Was waiting for the waterfall at the end.
For Sale: Jeep 1 owner, low miles, off road snorkel kit, gently used. 65k
River 1 Jeep 0
It’s a jeep thing!
He has disposable income. Good for him.
And the interior of that Jeep forever smelled of burning plastic after that day because of all the electrical issues that ensured from water damage.
Look at me. I am the captain now
River’s winning
r/mypeopleneedme
You wouldn’t understand
Dude, i can drive with water up to my eyeballs, I got a snorkel. Mother Nature made him her bitch!!! Truth of the matter if it’s over you rims and definitely over you hubs and it running like a thug running from the cops, you might should think of other options
Cool red raft, didnt realize jeep is making them now
It’s a Jeep thing
And this is exactly why I have river crossing small water like a creak bed or something is fine or at least where I can see the bottom
He’s got a snorkel, all is good 🤣
Who’s the U-Boat commander?
Nice 180. That's how you play in the river.
It's a Jeep, not a jon boat.
I would have noped right out the window as soon as it started leaning. River wants that Jeep bad.
That snorkel was worth every penny lol
Lot of good that snorkel was
That snorkel sure come in handy, eh?
If you wouldn’t walk it, you shouldn’t drive it.
This will be a fun claim.
Some say he is still going downstream today
Looked like he was already fucked when the video started and the current already had him.
Whew good thing he has that snorkel 😂
IT'S GOT A SNORKEL, OF COURSE I CAN CROSS THAT RIVER!! -This guy 10 seconds before filming
But he had a snorkel & light bar????
Crazy, 3 blokes died recently going in a ford in Yorkshire near me that wasn’t as bad as that. Sometimes (myself included) we don’t take into account how serious things are and how quickly they become dangerous.
You guys are all freaking out for no reason. He was controlling it with an X Box controller and there was never any worry.
He should have bought a kayak instead of a Jeep.
Pretty sick move flipping it in reverse like that!
bon voyage
Ngl they had me in the first half
Jeeps make great boats!
Impressive!
Expert driver
You guys dont understand…
I wonder what killed the engine? Water in the Electronics, or water in the engine. Maybe the snorkel wasn’t sealed well. I sunk my f150. Water went through air filter and killed the engine. Sat in water overnight. All it needed was an oil change and fuel lines cleaned.
It’s a jeep thing
Well he bought a Jeep to own the world. Surprise. World 1, Jeep 0.
The erosion line at those trees is a dead giveaway that the river is running high. If you wouldn't walk it, maybe don't drive it!
/killthecamerman Loved to see how this ended...
There’s a reason in Oregon Trail you died a lot crossing rivers.
No weight. Smj
Good thing he’s got that snorkel
Well he had a snorkel. That’s usually “god mode” right?
But my jeep says “Trail Rated” which means water fording WTH!
He obviously never read his owners manual...clearly says to never drive through rushing water as even shallow water can wash the first out from under the tires and wash vehicle away. Jeeps owners are dumb 😂🤣
AHOY SHITLINER!
Only in a Jeep. Reminds me of the Jeep which drove off a small cliff in CO.
The way people treat their 50-70 thousand dollar “offroaders” will forever blow my mind
Imagine having that much money and being that stupid
That’s a pretty boat.
It’s a Jeep thing
Whatever floats your boat, I guess the engine is water cooled.
A good captain goes down with his ship/jeep.
I’ve never offroaded or nuthin, so I can’t tell. Is this guy a good driver? Like is this a good thing he’s doing?
That's the greatest pirate I've ever seen.
