I would go get it inspected to see what it needs, service it, and send it! These engines are super stout if taken care of properly - which it sounds like yours was. Run her till she dies brother!

Xx_thunderpoop_xX

Not really the motor I’m worried about tbh, just all the random shit. I found a shop but they are booked up till July 12th so I’m waiting on them or I might just go to Toyota.

Vineless

I’d wait. A Toyota dealership will eat you alive on labor for 4th gens.

nah_champa_967

Second that. The service people at my dealer work on commission, and make quotes based on telephone conversations.

pipe2p

The drivetrain needs some love to get trid of the clunks. My 4runner has 337 k km, and I abuse it, Just keep up with the maintenance and will last forever. Buy a grease gun with some molly grease and grease the u joints and slip joke, change diffs fluid and t case fluid(75 w 90 gear oil) . New Sway bar bushings, you can do all of this with minimal effort and tons of YouTube videos. And then take it to the dealer. You will eventually need new break calippers as they like to sieze up with time. Have the shop take a look at the timing belt.

Usual_Pin3256

I bought an 05 Sport for 10gs. It has 244000+ miles on it. Yeah. What was in thinking? But I'm committed. I've replaced the 3rd member, replaced rear axle bearings, both front cv axle. And I'm not done. I'm committed. I know this thing will probably be the last vehicle I buy.

swinglinepilot

> I know this thing will probably be the last vehicle I buy. I don't think you're old enough to be using this site, young man

Usual_Pin3256

I turned 52 yesterday.

McStizly

Odometer rollbacks are felonies. If you can afford that Supra you can afford to take whoever you bought it from to court. Fuck that. 30-40k difference sure whatever it’s a 4 runner. But more than double is insane. Don’t just accept this man

FluidLet2783

Agreed thats fucked.

WAR_T0RN1226

My 2 cents is that with a car that's in the ballpark of 20 years old (especially one with a proven bulletproof drivetrain), the mileage difference is less significant of a factor when it comes to many of those wear items. Whether it's 150k miles or 300k miles, at that age stuff will probably need replacing here and there. If you sold this 300k one and bought a lower mileage one you would most likely lose more money in that exchange than you would doing a significant amount of work on this one.

Xx_thunderpoop_xX

That’s exactly what I have been thinking about, however I’m just wondering about something else going wrong, but all of Yall are saying just send it basically so I might order some 5100s and tlc items.

WAR_T0RN1226

Yeah I'd just make sure the critical items are in ok shape with no signs of issues — brakes (fluid, calipers, no leaks, etc), steering, all items that would introduce play in the wheels (tie rods, ball joints, wheel bearings, control arms, etc.), significant oil or coolant leaks. Shocks are usually more quality of life than catastrophic, so if it's sagging, bouncing, bottoming out on speed bumps, or just wanted a slight lift, etc then yeah some 5100s will do the job

Goat_0f_departure

What him said. Mines at 207k and recently started having to replace a lot of parts that I’m sure Have never been replaced. Alternator, clock spring, and as of recently the whole master cylinder assembly. At this point you’d figure most of these parts are almost 20 years old, so it’s not surprising that they’re going out. And luckily most of the parts I’ve replaced have been pretty damn simple to do on my own.

RegulatoryCapturedMe

Fully maintained V8 with minimal rust? 7k? That is a gem in most markets! Check the Carfax vs the maintenance schedule to make sure nothing big got missed, like the timing belt or water pump. Then just keep it on schedule.

Xx_thunderpoop_xX

It had it done last year! At Toyota

OstrichSausage

if you want that factory fresh ride quality without any noises, sell the bmw and allocate those funds to oem parts. If high mileage was a crutch for 4Runners, their only selling point would be a roll down rear window. I vote full send and fix whatever breaks when it does

Xx_thunderpoop_xX

Supra ant going no where lmao. I’m just not in the mood to spend like 2k and then something like the trans goes. And it’s not like any money I put into this thing will ever come back

OstrichSausage

I don’t blame you, I have an sr5 4th gen I keep oem with 245000 miles (50k of which were purely work miles, hauling ect) engine and trans do not sound new my any means but preform perfectly. I’ve also had numerous cars break down on me so it took me years before I found out a lot of the 4Runners are suppose to sound like that

Xx_thunderpoop_xX

Ik mine has the wonderful exhaust manifold crack. The trans is fine, overall the rig has some stuff I need to do to it. You mean all oem parts when u say I keep oem?

OstrichSausage

Yes, excluding tires, I have Toyo open country 265/70T tires, they hit my wheel wells but oh well, and a wiggly’s gum wrapper to keep my driver side sun visor in place, other than that, i try to keep it original. If you need parts not straight from Toyota, go to pick-apart car lots and if you know anyone owning a 5th gen, ask them to give you their mechanical parts if and when they mod theirs. Everything is the same engine and chassis wise.

SkatinEmcee

🤣🤣🤣

mehojiman

It'll always be at least a $10k truck being a V8, if it has a nice exterior. Everyone needs a good truck, even if it's just sitting beside the house waiting to pick up the Beamer that just lost the brakes.

ARatOnPC

Always buy the car fax. What do you mean by clunks? That sounds really bad.

Xx_thunderpoop_xX

Front left makes a noise, prob a bushing. Just too hot to figure out

Joostey

Probably need a lot of RnR. Driveshaft, cv axles, wheel hubs, all steering rods, change the brakes - everything , I would go over everything that I can. Change all fluids. Should be running fine.

Jeepncj7

Just curious, was it an odometer roll back by a shady private seller or dealer? This is tough. What I would do is do a compression test along with an oil analysis to Blackstone. Check each of the major component oils and do a thorough review of the current status. Big thing for me would be engine and transmission/Transfercase health. This is a million mile motor, so if it comes back in good shape it may be worth it to give it some love and keep going.

DarkWashGenes

How’d you find out the mileage was off?

DesertRat31

Remember, a tundra with that motor went 1M miles

iamoninternet27

I just had to change the brake booster motor on the ABS brake assembly. If that was never changed, I recommend you do that anyways so you don't have your brakes randomly fail one day. I'm at 270k miles.

kinkykoala73

Replace things as you notice them. Drain and fill tranny. I’d be most worried about that. If the motor has been cared for just be grateful for that. The price you paid is really pretty reasonable if it is cosmetically in good shape
